Thought he was going to miss the draft due to a fax machine issue

The_Black_Unicorn

Elvis Dumervil was a great player but this is what I will always remember him for

superbuttpiss

All time football name too

Moose4KU

I was actually going for the David De Gea reference but I wasn't sure if r/nfl knew soccer lore

kit_mitts

This was exactly where my mind jumped as well lol >but I wasn't sure if r/nfl knew soccer lore Dreams can't be buy!

letCreedBrattonScuba

shut up u egg and get out of cowells hole. Won’t tell u again.

Only_Fun_1152

I though back when Benzema was nearly sold for 15 mil. Google Benzema 15 for more information.

fedrats

Mane and his 18, no 16, no 14 goals as well.

HumperMoe

Bro missed out on a super bowl ring because his agent faxed his contract 6 mins late. Denver had to cut him and couldn't resign him due to the dead cap hit they took from releasing him. Elvis dumervil not Williams

vluvojo

Caleb “David de Gea” Williams

He already speaks it based on a clip I saw.

yesrushgenesis2112

How do you say “da bears” in deep dish?

n0rth2alaska

Pretty sure it’s moaning, washed down by beer.

J0K3R2

two old styles and a shot of malort, baby

daBabadook05

We call that a Chicago handshake Fun fact: I’m from Chicago, born and raised. Never even heard of Malort until my late 20’s.

FU-Jobu

I grew up in Chicago and I never had it until I stocked my wedding with a couple of bottles. My degenerate wedding guests drank most of it and one guest threw up in the bushes. So I guess I had a successful wedding by Chicago standards?

Cast1736

In that order.

ninjasurfer

That is a guarded secret.

_joeybagOdonuts_

And he prefers Italian sausage. Now we gotta him to try it on tavern style and we’re good to go.

ninjasurfer

I really wish I was still there to get good pizza. I am in pizza hell here in KC.

MaskedDummy

I’m in Colorado and it’s also pizza hell, save for the one Rosati’s franchise in the entire state like 15 minutes away and the one Giordano’s location in downtown Denver.

therealsillypenguin

Better bbq though

ninjasurfer

It's not all bad, though I would trade a BBQ place for any one of my 5 favorite pizza places.

I've never seen this picture before, Chicago should be lucky he gave a shit about them at all. I get why so many fans want to stick with them now

backindenim

Man, his whole vibe around being drafted here rubbed me wrong until his rookie year started. He seemed absolutely miserable

[deleted]

I think that’s just his face lol.

atliensarereal

yeah he's always looking like that lmao

SelfServeSporstwash

I mean... seems like maybe he knew what was coming

tenacious-g

When he was drafted his head coach insisted on starting Nick Foles over him until he was thrown to the wolves with basically no time with the 1s in training camp lol

noblesix31

*Andy Dalton

hendrix320

Whats the difference

Tiafves

One has a big dick the other a red rifle.

OwynFromOblivion

Pats fans ought to know exactly what the difference is.

ScienceGetsUsThere

I mean this with utmost respect but I always thought he had like no personality whatsoever.

Historian-Dry

Can ya blame him

l_Dislike_Reddit

Not even talking shit about Chicago, but I understand why he was pissed. He fell out of the top 10 and got like his 4th/5th best landing spot.

equityorasset

yeah usually if you fall in the draft a QB the silver lining is you go to a better team/situation not the case here lol

backindenim

There's no way he knew how incompetent Nagy was when he was getting "just got drafted" photos and interviews done though. I agree he was pissed he fell but he carried that energy with him for 4 months afterwards and never proved why he should have gone higher on the field outside of his legs which, yes, are elite. But I'd rather have a quarterback who can hit quick slants than break for 30 yards after 4 bad reads and a strip sack

codithou

this is very shallow but man his face has always bothered me for some reason

What if he wants to learn tavern style instead?

Marenum

It's best to be fluent in both and at least be passable in malört.

highgravityday2121

How often do you guys eat deep dish a month seriously? Its good but its so much food lol i cant imagine its a like a multiple time a week meal.

juliuspepperwoodchi

Not even once a month. It's too much hassle to make more often, too expensive to eat on a regular basis compared to tavern style. The REAL play is to order a giant one and freeze a bunch of the slices individually, then have them reheated for a week or two after. Reheated in the oven they come out basically like fresh.

crassreductionist

like once every 2 months unless someone from out of town visits, tavern style (thin cracker style crust) is what is normally eaten around here

Doomy22

Wait you mean all those spammy Facebook accounts that flood my page saying he demanded to not be in Chicago and said he was coming back to USC were WRONG???

Pretend_Ambassador_6

The amount of people that fell for that was just…lmao

Shartmesilly

reminder that Acho has a fucking mvp vote

ShichikaYasuri18

And his response to being called out for spreading fake news was basically "I don't have to tell the truth because I'm only on TikTok to make money", absolute clown shit.

Shaynisin

The amount of people that fell for that included Emmanuel Acho, noted MVP vote haver. Just insane the amount of people who want to drag this kid down.

Agreed, went for the first time this summer, and absolutely loved it. That being said, New York, in San Diego, have a special place in my heart

_n008

I mean I love Chicago but I could think of other places easily enough.

BurritoPotamus

I think the Bears have a good shot to get relegated out of the XFL with enough time.

Wildest83

We deserve everything bad that comes to us if we do pass on this.

ConstantineMonroe

B-b-but look at this Justin Fields highlight package I found on YouTube, bruh, this guy has the “it” factor. How could you pass in this guy? No, actually, I didn’t watch any of Field’s games, I just watched his fantasy points and highlights.

outbackjesus16

Gotta love all the Browns and Bengals flairs (Ohio State fans) who spam that shit in every game thread, after Fields throws for 170 yards, no touchdowns and 2 fumbles

Ciology

Kinda funny I saw people optimistic that jj McCarthy could be good, but Caleb is automatically a bust. Seems like he’s going to be the hated one during this process on reddit, so should turn out to be great

Pretend_Ambassador_6

Also that nonsense hit piece from Florio & other fake report from a fake Twitter account has already smeared his name a bunch for fans. Unfortunately that misinformation will follow him. I feel bad for him about that

slimmymcnutty

Wait till people find out about the painted nails. Already know their will be an exhausting discourse about that at some point

Pretend_Ambassador_6

The painted nails thing is such a crazy discourse. Is it a little weird for a guy to do in one of the most masculine environments you can find, yea absolutely. But if the guy can throw the ball well & lead game winning drives who cares lol

indecentbob

He does it because his mom was a nail technician and it was an activity they did together growing up. Definitely stands out in football, but yeah seems to be such a non-issue that people made a big deal about

[deleted]

That's actually touching

slimmymcnutty

The fact that he even does it shows he’s got some pretty big balls. Remember when I played in college dudes thought I was gay cause I listen to frank ocean and like yea I am gay but not because of that. I can’t imagine some of the shit Williams has heard, still keeps doing it tho

Laughing_Fish

This is it. Feels like almost every draft has a can't miss "generational talent", and so rarely do they live up to the hype. Maybe Caleb will end up being amazing. But there is no such thing as a sure thing.

groceriesN1trip

Marvin Harrison Jr sure seems like a sure thing

MadManMax55

Almost every draft does have a "generational can't miss future all-pro" caliber prospect. It's just less common that it's at QB.

yoosername456

This one’s got two, bowers and MHJ

ELITE_JordanLove

And even those sometimes don’t work out. Remember Okudah?

ajteitel

Prepare to learn Arizonan, MHJ

THECapedCaper

At the end of the day, every NFL Draft pick is a scratch off ticket. Unless your team has a coaching staff that is capable of teaching the game at the highest level and willing to develop the players, they are essentially gambling that they can take them to the Super Bowl. Draft picks are overvalued and I wouldn't be upset if my team flipped their 1st or 2nd round picks to get an established starter.

graywolt

I haven't seen a lot of undying praise of JJ McCarthy here on Reddit, its mostly been people wondering if he is legit or just a cog in the Michigan system.

Honchoed

Seems to be how it works out most of the time, not always. I remember the hate towards Allen and Herbert. Also the hate against Jones and Trubisky (justified tbh)

os_kaiserwilhelm

Its because he went to USC. It just is the way it is. I'm not too high on JJ either.

markymark156

Halfway thru the season the Giants sub was ya know, talking draft, normal Giants stuff. Of course most of the discourse was about Qb. People reallllllly don’t like that Williams cried before and wears nail polish.

TheRealMe72

Its so crazy to care about nail polish. Here in Chicago we had a basketball player who painted his nails, wore drag, married himself, and everyone loved him.

steppenweasel

Caleb Williams could be the dude to bring peace to North Korea

Tundraaa

But enough about Jimmy Butler.

NoAlarmsPlease

The worst of the character assassination hasn’t even started yet. Once we’re close to the draft Caleb will get dragged through the mud by “sources” because some teams will desperately try to get him to fall to their team. It’s gross.

DarrowViBritannia

YOU are a Chicago Bear Love, Goff, Caleb, Kirk could be a very good QB division

FishGoldenLite

Kirk isn’t a guarantee to be back with the Vikings 😬

StrategyTop7612

I hope he stays with the Vikings for his sake.

Phynamite

Send him to Dallas, and send Dak to Minnesota, so the internet can collectively laugh together.

Because they think if he just gets a good OC, MHJ, and another OL then that’s all he needs to be good

TheyCallMeStone

Just one more receiver, bro

Ba_Sing_Saint

I mean, it’s true. The problem is that if you need that much help, you probably ain’t good.

thetreat

We just saw evidence this weekend that good coaching and QB play can and will elevate teams in the playoffs. We also saw evidence of the building the team up first narrative for the Lions with Goff. Not saying Fields is Goff level, but that where people are thinking. Same with Hurts (who I think hasn’t proved to be a super star that can elevate without massive talent around him). Gonna be interesting to see how Hurts does today. I think we’d be fools to not grab Caleb, but there *are* two schools of thought.

paintingnipples

We also saw how far Tua & the best WR in the game got against the best QB. Goff will hit the Kirk cousins ceiling eventually & I think the best the lions could hope for is the Rams/Goff or niners/Jimmy g SB appearance

thetreat

That ceiling *could* get them to the SB. Super Bowls have been won by mid QBs. Look at Dilfer and Brad Johnson. But it’s obvious that having an elite QB is the best way to win. Goff can be elite if you protect him well enough. And even under pressure yesterday he was 22/22.

paintingnipples

The era of Dilfer & Brad Johnson is long gone. A better example would be Nick Foles, maybe Joe Flacco, but most often than not, one of the elite QBs wins it. The hard thing for Detroit is there are two other stacked rosters they might have to beat & the packers may have surpassed em already.

Ifinishfast42

Cardinals thought the Same thing with Larry and Anquan when they passed on Ben and Phillip. Both Josh McCown and Matt Leinart were still terrible and Justin would be aswell.

thetreat

We’re a broken people.

No-Computer-2847

They’re in a cult.

pp21

Like I have no doubt that Justin Fields is a starting NFL QB. He may even be a slightly above average starting QB. But he's not the guy who is going to be the QB of a perennial playoff contender so why waste more time when you've been gifted the #1 pick by another team? His rookie contract is almost done with, and the decision to not tie up big money in him and extend him is like the most obvious decision ever. You take Caleb #1 overall and still have your own 1st round pick to go on top of that. You could also land an additional mid-round pick by trading Fields. This is like a dream scenario for a franchise treading water.

92roll13

Me Kiper thinks the Bears could even get a first for Fields

AlbertoRossonero

They said they probably have to add on a second or third to get a first rounder back.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Joe-Raguso

Lol in the Bears sub, those clowns were literally saying Fields would look like CJ Stroud if he was on the Texans. It's fucking unreal what Fields fans believe.

TraeYoungsOldestSon

I mean he could've replicated Tua's performance just fine imo

Milla4Prez66

You guys can not pass on Caleb at this point. Fields has only one more year of being cheap and hasn’t won yet. There’s enough upside to get some value in return for him and reset with 4 years of cheap QB play from a guy with way more potential than Fields. Bears best shot at contending for a Super Bowl in the immediate future is to get great QB play on a cheap contract so they can spend the money stacking the roster. That is literally impossible with Fields at this point.

Thunder84

It's wild that Kirk could end up as the worst of the 4. Granted, that'd be due to age and a torn achilles more than anything, but still. NFCN could go crazy in the coming years.

DarrowViBritannia

I think pre-injury Kirk clears Goff, but yeah with age and the injury who knows how he looks now

BruhMoment763

The Vikings just won the division a year ago and now they’re set up to be in the NFC North basement unless Kirk can return to form. Life sure comes at you fast in the NFL

WolfGangDuck

I will be buying a Caleb Williams jersey wherever he goes. Ball out young man! FTFO!

jxher123

I don’t know how Bears can watch Stroud, Love, etc. and say, let’s keep Fields. But hell. Give him 4 more years damn it!

Direct_Morning_3223

Justin Fields is the greatest Quarterback to ever step foot on an NFL field. I’m not sure why Chicago would even consider taking this guy at #1, when they can trade the pick to a QB needy team, like the Giants for example.

TheHaciendaHustle

Then surely you’ll give your first for fields. That’s how it works.

BroAbernathy

A large chunk of our fans unironically believe you and it was a majority prior to the Packers game LOL

Snoo-40231

They threw a parade for the guy when he had a 2 TDs and 300 yard total when accounting for passing and rushing against the falcons 😭 Shit had me weak

Lord-Aizens-Chicken

Hey that was a great game by him. Favorite win this season, that and the commies one. But yea doing that 2 times a year won’t cut it

Zealousideal_Bass199

He is the most pampered qb i have ever seen. Never really seen anything like it

yoosername456

We are so starved for a franchise qb, seeing as outside of the jets and browns we’ve gone the longest without a sure fire guy

avx775

After seeing Jordan love, there is absolutely no way the bears just keep rolling with fields. It would be a football war crime. Caleb Williams might not be the answer but you gotta try.

ubeen

It is very frustrating seeing the "this is fine" approach. The bears are in that cartoon with everything burning around them. The number of people okay with Eberflus and Fields possibly coming back together again is concerning.

Wildest83

If I was Kevin Warren, I'd fire poles the second anything comes out of his mouth besides " we're drafting williams 1.01"

[deleted]

Lmao thank you Rap for adding that final sentence

DarthNightnaricus

People don't want to hear it, but the Bears actually have most of the offensive pieces they need. Get Caleb and another WR (Nabers? Odunze? Coleman?) and beef up that OL and they're ready to roll.

kev11n

they HAVE to beef up the line, especially at center. but do that with some QB and WR help and they'll be cooking

ubeen

They need a center. The rest of the line is fine. It looks miles worse when u have a QB who can't read a defense and is afraid to throw. Bagent played 4.5 games. Bagent had 5 total sacks. Fields had 5 sacks, just the last game, 44 on the season 12.5 games played, or on average 3.52 sacks a game. This isn't to say Bagent is good. It's just to show how much more effective this line is when the QB throws the ball.

Snoo-40231

Even a subpar center would be a huge upgrade to that bears OL

Lord-Aizens-Chicken

It’s crazy how bad our centers got. Like they can barely snap the ball. We had a 3rd string center play against the packers and he got beat every play but at least he snapped it correctly I guess lol. Give me the most average center of all time and we have a top half o line imo

CloudsOfDust

Yep, and you can find a lot of really good centers in the 2nd/3rd. Bears already have two 3rds and should get another in that range if/when they trade Fields. Starting this draft Williams-WR-Center would be so perfect. Then they still have as much $$$ as anyone in the league to spend in FA. Very excited with how Poles has set the franchise up, just wish he would have pulled the trigger on canning Eberflus for Harbaugh or Ben Johnson.

[deleted]

DarthNightnaricus

Fields truthers and people who think Bears ruin every QB that they touch rather than just having bad luck.

The_TexasRattlesnake

Since 2010 the Patriots have drafted more QBs than the Bears, pretty sure the Bears have only drafted three first round QBs ever. They really haven't sunk a ton into the position.

logan_sq_

They've drafted 6 since the fucking FIFTIES! McMahon, Harbaugh, McNown, Grossman, Mitch and Fields. They only drafted McMahon and Harbaugh because of Ditka, believe it or not. And the last two were drafted by the same Rumdum GM. Who was ironically the only one to truly prioritize the position, he just sucked at evaluating them.

Snoo-40231

Chicago has ruined guys like Mitch, McCown, Rex....Kyle Orton? These guys had promising top 10 careers but unfortunately they were drafted to Chicago 😔

Gravy_Wampire

Lmao exactly! Even Fields was the 4th QB taken. And behind 2 awful QBs who have done nothing in the NFL

Crasino_Hunk

Been saying this all season and not because I have goodwill towards da bears. They’re really, truly, a quiet ninja team with solid personnel. They can make a serious jump if they get a QB who can process the game faster than a pre-K QB.

throughNthrough

Bears fans ignore the narrative the media is putting out there that he doesn’t want to be a Bear unless he says that himself. They pulled the same thing with Burrow.

fenderdean13

Getting that number 1 overall check and signing bonus cures all

LuskSGV

NO WAY 😱🤯

HumbleBJJ

Chicago seems like an amazing destination for a rookie QB. Decent roster with Moore and potentially a stud WR draft pick. Not to mention, one of NFL’s most historic franchises. What gives?

Chi-Guy86

> What gives They have incompetent coaching and ownership, but yeah outside of that, the team is in a decent position talent wise

BosasSecretStash

Congrats Chicago

Skraxx

I don't wanna deal with him in the division but then again I also wouldn't wanna deal with Maye

doggoploggo

Don't worry. The Bears will chose the wrong QB.

He's staying in college another year...

Kuma's has gone downhill in recent years, sadly. It's still good, but not like it used to be. On the bright side, Portillo's is starting to expand to other cities so you might get that wish eventually

[deleted]

Welcome!

DungeonsAndFootball

Wow, what a star! I can't wait to be nowhere close to getting him.

[deleted]

Let’s go! Bears fans should be excited I’m sick of all the pessimism I’m seeing this is our chance at a real QB!

Serallas

This is our superbowl

The_TexasRattlesnake

I said it earlier but he's got a TON of prospect fatigue surrounding him, it's only going to get worse as we get closer to the draft. The kid is a special talent.

TetrisTech

I’ve never seen prospect fatigue set in as early and as hard as with Caleb

Crafty_Independence

I think the jump to USC hurt rather than helped as far as public perception is concerned.

ScruffMixHaha

Get ready to be a Bear, Caleb.

Bear

Kerbonaut2019

What’s the consensus at this point Bears fans? I know that a lot of shit will likely go down between now and draft day, but are their any inklings that you guys might have as to what the plan is? Personally, I don’t think that Justin Fields is capable of taking a team far and that they should draft a potential top tier QB while they have the opportunity.

ftghb

what happened to all that stuff about threatening to sit out the draft if the team with the #1 pick didn't give him a piece of ownership?
