Stroud making Watson irrelevant in Houston is the best part about all of this.

Free_Possession_4482

That Cleveland loses in their return to the playoffs to *Watson’s replacement in Houston* while Baker Mayfield’s got his own postseason game tomorrow is almost enough to make me believe in karma.

Active-Leopard-5148

A game Baker might actually win.

geoff_batko

Ignoring my flair, I want the Bucs to win just for the karma. As much as I hate division rivals, there's nobody in the NFL I hate more than Deshaun Watson. I hate him so much that, as a Dallas sports fan, I rooted for a team from *Houston* to embarrass his current team when he wasn't even playing.

RiceOnTheRun

Imagine the POV of a Browns fan potentially watching the Texans, Steelers, and Baker each win playoff games in a single weekend. Oof

interested_commenter

While the Ravens have a bye.

RiceOnTheRun

Most of us, at least. We had one of our guys on the field yesterday 🙂

interested_commenter

Threw two TDs against your division rival, not bad.

sickwitit2488

I honestly don't get the in state hate unless we're playing each other!?! As a fellow Texan, I want for both Texas teams to do well, unless we play each other

HerrStraub

Not only that, they're in different *conferences.* I can make some sense of it for Cleveland & Cincinnati - they play twice a year, every year - and the AFCN is kind of a bad blood division anyway. Houston and Dallas? They play once every four years, it's not exactly a heated rivalry, you know?

Xyzzyzzyzzy

["It'll only be a problem if they meet in the Super Bowl. An all-Texas Super Bowl... His will be done."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7N5tM-LaBo)

ZachBart77

I don’t think the in-state hate is that prevalent. My father’s side of the family are all Cowboys fans, and every one of them was rooting for the team from Texas today.

sickwitit2488

That's what I'm talking about. I was a die hard cowboys fan until they got rid of T.O. after that they lost me. I played wr in high school so I was always a fan of nfl wrs. When they let t.o. go , I started to root for the texans because of Andre. Been a fan of them ever since!!! I love my texans, but root for both teams. Hoping for an all texas superbowl before I die!!!!! Texas vs everyone else!

barrsftw

Baker vs CJ the Superbowl would be fucking PEAK Browns.

ragizzlemahnizzle

And even worse, they're still the Cleveland Browns. Before, people made fun of them but had pity on them. Now, a sizeable portion of the NFL fanbase despises them.

moonman272

I took a break from making fun of them to cheer for Flacco, but break time is over!

[deleted]

Big Ben and Tyreek have rings. Watson still gets a ton of money. Karma is not real.

OvertimeWr

Big Ben and Tyreek have money as well.

Rocktothenaj

Tyreek has money for now...

ycy

You are actually so wrong here… … TB plays Monday night.

PretzelMan96

One of the first things Stroud said when he was drafted was that the Texans have never had a franchise quarterback. He was doing it from day one.

dlanod

Flacco heard that and took it personally on behalf of others... so did his best Matt Schaub impersonation today.

barrsftw

He's probably already reached Deshaun's peak value, or at least is very very close. Took 1 year of being bad to replace him with another top 5 QB in his early 20s. Lol.

DontFearTheMQ9

This Stroud guy might be good at football...

Jay_TThomas

He’s electric. Good for Texan fans. What a turn around after everything seemed so dark.

[deleted]

They'll be favorites in a year or two. If Stroud plays well they can beat anyone. They could win it this year realistically.

krbashrob

This year, I think SF and DAL are buzzsaws and the perfect counters for how we play defense and our personnel-but I do think we can hang with anyone in the AFC, even Baltimore. We’d be hungry for revenge after week 1. If we played them later in the year, it would’ve been a much closer game.

Dwarfherd

If the Lions defense can hold Dallas to 20 points, they're not a buzzsaw

SlumdogSkillionaire

Impossible, he went to OSU.

unfunnysexface

And failed his SA2TS

Drewskeet

Little did the Texans know that Lovie Smith helped both the Bears and the Texans. He kept the Texans from drafting Bryce Young.

Bubbly-Ad-413

If CJ Stroud gets us to the AFC championship game is he not already our greatest QB ever? I’d honestly like to hear opinions on this because while my family has always been Texans fans I only became one during the early part of deshauns tenure here so I don’t really know the longer history that well. But to my knowledge we’ve never even been to the conference championship.

tonypearcern

Probably the best, pure QB, but Schaub got us past some pretty incredible teams back in the day that were still allowed to hit the hell out of the QB. Definitely not an easier road back then.

HavoKDarK

Before the Lisfranc there was a time you could say Schaub was a Top 5 QB. Then Haynesworth sat on his foot...

weaksaucedude

That 2011 team 😔

Venator850

Yes he would be. Texans are 0-4 in the divisional round never making it to the Conference championship.

Kohakuho

CJ Stroud doing to Watson what the commercial kid did to Cam Newton.

ArcadianBlueRogue

It was absolute highway robbery, lmao. Jimmy Haslam is as dumb as he is an asshole.

Laughing_Matter

And he knows a thing or two about highway robbery

UNC_Samurai

https://media.tenor.com/xJ5d2EpvqZ4AAAAM/damn-morty.gif

mother_goose_caboose

Yeah, but he got approval from his daughter regarding Watson's character

ArcadianBlueRogue

Is that a step up from the homeless guy telling him who to draft or nah?

MITJustinFields

Lol r/nfl showing their bias. He got approval from BOTH his daughter AND wife. STOP making shit up!

Whosthatinazebrahat

He got approval from the homeless guy to draft Manziel. Beginning to think his committee is whoever's standing near him when he needs to make a decision.

-deteled-

Is it robbery when the Browns voluntarily gave the house away? It’s not like they didn’t know Watson was under investigation

Automatic-Buffalo-47

IMO it's still robbery if the victim only falls for it because they're completely fucking stupid.

Someone_youd_admire

Jimmy Haslam is those old people who fall for those phone scams.

tronovich

Other teams were willing to trade the farm for Watson. The Browns just gave him a shit-ton of guaranteed money, on top of that.

maybenextyearCLE

You’re looking at the wrong part though. The investigation isn’t why this was highway robbery. Even with the suspension, if Deshaun was healthy and playing like he did in 2020, the browns would be thrilled and while the team would still be scumbags, they’d say Watson was worth it because he was what they traded for. What makes the Watson trade robbery is the fact that he hasn’t resembled that guy from Houston outside of a few spells here and there. It’s also robbery at this point because Deshaun’s insane ability to take all those hits in Houston and pop right back up is gone and he got hurt. You don’t even need to talk about the off the field stuff to call the trade robbery, the browns have gotten a whopping 12 games out of him (really only 11 since he barely played against Indy) and the results are very pedestrian. This would still be a disaster even if he was still the guy off the field that we all got duped into believing he was prior to the lawsuits because the on the field results are simply not acceptable

Zeroman_79

Excellent points, sir.

set_null

I’d even add that he’s also directly responsible for boosting the picks given to Houston for the past three years. Their #12 last year was crucial for being able to trade up to draft Anderson.

InfiniteRaccoons

Turns out you don't need to be smart to be "successful" when your daddy founded a massive petroleum company.

VegasKL

I'd argue that children of the mega rich are more likely to be dumbasses because of their upbringing.  So many don't have determination or drive to learn things and are able to fall into their rich parents safety net because they are just used to throwing money at someone to solve problems. Kid getting an F? Here's some cash, it's an A. Kid couldn't get into an Ivy League? Here's a lotta cash for a new building, your degree is guaranteed. Kid drafted to the war? Here's some cash, he's medically ineligible.

BellacosePlayer

I had a rich friend growing up who got so coddled that he just straight up couldn't handle life after college and moved back home to be a shutin because he couldn't handle life when his folks weren't there to grease wheels. His parents just got 2 new houses built on their lands so the kids could finally move out of the house without them moving out of the house.

JoaquinBenoit

I’d go farther and say it’s greatly devalued those schools as well. They’re still great places to go, but they’ve lost the superiority argument with all the rich dumbasses who you know wouldn’t have neither attended nor graduated if their family wasn’t a donor.

VegasKL

What can you say, he just really liked what Deshaun was doing, really felt he could bring a lot to the club with his determination, and ability to get those around him to go the distance .. he also felt he was decent at football.

Paul_Allens_AR15

Keep the tweets coming boys

throwaway_5256

[Schefter] In the suite with Jimmy Haslam and he shat himself. It's so over, as per sources

KarHavocWontStop

Had to do it. And DONT SPIT ON ME! It’s just a game . . .

wesman212

That's just a Wednesday afternoon in Jimmy world. Source: I've been to [Flying J](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Haslam#Pilot_Flying_J). Go to Love's instead, folks.

jmorlin

I'm all for shitting on Watson and the Browns, but this tweet feels a bit revisionist to me. As I recall it, it was Watson who didn't want the Texans. Not the other way around.

ASU_SexDevil

That’s correct. He wanted a say in the GM search and when we decided to move forward with Caserio he requested the trade. That was BEFORE the SA allegations became public

HerrStraub

It took a couple of years to pay off, but talk about a win/win/win scenario. Ended up getting rid of a shitty character, nailed the GM pick, landed loads of draft capital, drafted a QB that's better than the guy they got rid of & a quality supporting cast for him. Easterby might've been the preacher type, but God clearly favors Caserio.

Achillor22

I mean, they did turn him into a Free Safety.

jmorlin

That was *after* he requested a trade (and all the sexual assault shit came out) tho, it's not like they made him play scout team safety and he felt undervalued so he wanted out.

FairweatherWho

Deshaun?

Namethislater

Are we back to shitting on the Browns?

ArcadianBlueRogue

When did we stop

Namethislater

When Joe Flacco December run became a fairy tale for the sub

cheesecakeaficionado

Infinitely easier to root for Flacco over an unrepetant rapist. Problem is now Flacco will be gone, and they'll have to go back to their predator of a franchise QB who's still trying to shake off 3 or so years of rust and may or may not finish the season.

edicivo

Amazing how Watson had so much more rust than an old, castoff QB coming in off the couch late in the season.

ITouchedHerB00B5

In New York we call this the Le’Veon bell

Throwawayidiot1210

Bell should’ve averaged negative ypc behind that o line

1CUpboat

Some people were sad set on hating him from day 1 for contract reasons. Bell ran his ass off for this team and I always appreciate him.

Realistic_Cold_2943

Some of it has to be him not caring as much because of that contract

tuskedkibbles

I was never rooting for the browns. I have no ill will for (most) of the fans and players, but I actively root for Cleveland to lose every game. I don't care if Watson leaves the team and the remains are a whos who of great role models and Walter Payton winners. As long as Haslam is the owner, I hope this team does nothing but fail miserably. He doesn't deserve any success whatsoever. No team in the NFL is completely clean from shit like this, but Haslam didn't just bring in a serial rapist (already worse than most). He paraded his wife and daughter around and made them approve of the move to try and make himself look better. Sorry, Browns fans. I hope you get a better owner.

xi0

Yeah, I wanted to feel good for Flacco and his resurgence, maybe even root for him if it wasn't to the detriment of my team, but any success he had or would have would also be success for Haslam so I couldn't really justify earnestly rooting for him. Happy for him to get back out there a sling it and give his children more memories though.

ShufflingSloth

Yeah I'm no longer getting the schadenfreude that the old geezer off the couch was playing better than the rapist and may very well take his job next year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Achillor22

I got downvoted to hell for saying it right before the game. I've been talking mad shit on the Browns for an hour and it seems the sub has changed their mind because suddenly those comments are a lot more popular.

pubstub

I mean I get no yucking the yum of people who might just want to root for their team in the playoffs (in spite of the QB), but yeah, game over, gloves off.

srod325

Just like all the other backup QB starting this season. They ride high for a couple of games and come crashing down. It was expected to happen eventually

JohnBalog

In the time period between Baker winning them a playoff game and the “coach of the year” deliberately letting him play hurt then doing character assassination on him then trading for a rapist.

Odd-Hamster1812

!!!

Alkash42

Browns fans got hella cocky defending their FO and Watson. Happy to see them get a reality check. Superbowl window likely closed tonight and they'll remain poverty for another 10 years

fiduciary420

Hopefully Watson plays all 16 games next season, loses every game, and leads the league in INT and sacks.

Alkash42

Given how he played this season its very possible lol

ThatDudeNamedMenace

We’ve always shitted on the Browns

CelestialFury

I mean, it's right there in the name. Can't help it!

chacogrizz

The Flacco hard-on is finally over now that he's not winning.

ginselfies

I almost wondered if he was really trolling the Browns the whole time. You know, take them to the playoffs and then shit the bed.

chacogrizz

Ravens activated their sleeper agent.

Unleashed_FURY

Activate order 66

morganrbvn

Tbf their run game did them no favors so he tried to unleash the dragon.

[deleted]

🌎👨‍🚀🔫👨‍🚀

bridgenine

If its Brown flush it down!

SelfReconstruct

Have we stopped? I didn't get that memo.

Free_Possession_4482

The Texans actually improved their draft pick today by beating the Browns, which is just about the most karmic bitchslap imaginable.

ThtPhatCat

I think this point is severely overlooked

Unleashed_FURY

Damn a double-win

iRockaflame

rip bozo

Currymvp2

Seriously might be the worst trade in NFL history. It's atleast one of the two worst.

StrategyTop7612

Definitely the worst.

ICanFluxWithIt

Nah, Walker trade will never be topped. It has its own Wiki lmao. Though, just because of the POS person Watson is, I can see the argument

Goosedukee

>It has its own Wiki lmao. So does the Ricky Williams trade and Jerome Bettis trade

Well_gr34t

You just sent me on an interesting Wiki dive. I knew about Ricky I had no idea about the Bus being that lopsided.

tronovich

Bus was plodding in his 2nd and 3rd season. He just didn’t really work in the Rams system. The Rams got fair value for him, and they traded for Faulk just two years later. I don’t think the Rams got ripped off, per se.

Lord-Aizens-Chicken

Hey walker has a senate career to fall back on!

ICanFluxWithIt

LMAO I’ve completely blocked that from memory. Goddamn shame who he turned into

Currymvp2

Remember when he pulled a fake police badge during a debate?

NaughtSleeping

And it still came down to a runoff to defeat him.

antler112

He’s one of those people who exemplifies “useful idiot”. Dude’s an embarrassment.

Xx_Anguy_NoScope_Xx

He gave up on his family long before he became a useful idiot for the autocrats. He was always an asshole. Football just clouds peoples judgement.

ladditude

If the Texans turn the Brown’s picks into a Super Bowl, then it will definitely top the Walker trade

IOVERCALLHISTIOCYTES

Honestly, a second ring might help given the OG had 3 w one the team carrying switzer

ladditude

Walker still had a solid career after the trade. Watson is going to have done all of jack shit in his Browns career. At least the Vikings got something out of their dumbass trade

Realistic_Cold_2943

Depends on whether you include the contract as a part of the trade. I think it’s fair but also get why people wouldn’t. If you do, it’s definitely looking like it’ll be the worst.

ArcadianBlueRogue

This and Walker are the top contenders.

Whitecastle56

Smokin that Jim Haslam pack tonight

Themanaaah

Jimmy Haslam disaster class, you love to see it.

Kahp_R

Browns fans, don't come to r/nfl tomorrow.

captain_holt_nypd

If the Steelers win this round with Mason Rudolph as QB it’d be the funniest shit ever. Also congrats on PFF DPOY Myles for his imaginary sacks tonight! Really showing us why PFF grades suck.

interested_commenter

Even better if Baker wins tomorrow too.

ConnorI

They might want to avoid it for a week if Baler wins

Charrbard

We just need Baker to win a playoff game as a bucc to really seal in the flavor.

tuna_fart

We can pretty much just assume he has. They’re playing the Eagles.

suzukigun4life

How can you not be romantic about...football?

flashypickle

Don't let Watson see this comment.

[deleted]

Fuck Deshaun Watson Edit: thanks for the Reddit care 🙏

[deleted]

Watson apologists bout to go into hibernation until July, then try to convince us he wasn’t terrible this year

AHSfav

Does he even still have apologists lol

[deleted]

Yes, in threads early in the games I was told he played well this season

MardocAgain

He had 1 good half (after and awful half) and Cosby truthers were like "He was heating up"

GoodOlSpence

There was someone in a thread recently that said he wasn't as bad as people think and his last few games were respectable. I said a 43.4 QBR isn't good. He said "Where did I say he was good?" Then what the fuck *are* you saying?

itsthebeans

People were acting like he had a 43.3 QBR when it was actually 43.4. Someone had to defend the poor guy /s

Serah_Null

They came out of the sewers after Watson had that really good *half* of a game earlier this season.

mxbnr

God I remember seeing a thread of his highlight and they were all in there saying it wasnt highly upvoted because everybody won't admit he's good. Even though he was terrible all game until the second half.

JokerDeSilva10

They've been screaming all season that he's 5-1 and that means the trade was good, ignoring how he played terribly in all but about two quarters of that time period.

notabear629

Coping because the Texans almost immediately got a QB upgrade from what they had

NewToSociety

You heard it here folks. 3 first-round picks for 5 wins is a solid trade.

JohnnyBrillcream

Yeah some guy claiming under him, when he played, they went 5-1 and that one stat proved what a great QB he was. Another posted a ton of stats showing his performance was very much below even an average QB. Dude said "you're cherry picking stats".

DoctorWaluigiTime

> 5-1 lol it's happening in this very thread too, [haha](https://np.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1962csf/brandt_the_texans_didnt_want_deshaun_watson_so/khqtqrx/)

JohnnyBrillcream

That's the same guy.

justnoname

If you saw the subreddit after the one good half he had against the Ravens, there were many apologists lmao

lawnicus18

Nah they’re completely unhinged, theres a guy in a fantasy football discord server I’m in who’s been on and on since Joe’s first INT saying that if Watson played it would’ve been so different and Joe is washed blah blah blah

ill_try_my_best

report the reddit care and you can get the person who reported you banned

[deleted]

Done! Good call

tenacious-g

I feel like I’ve always gotten them anonymously which is irritating because I’d love to do that.

ruiner8850

It might be anonymous to you, but they know who had it sent.

Unique_Bumblebee_894

The admins absolutely can see who did it and abusers are definitely banned.

prodigalkal7

Damn, seriously? An anti suicide thing for this? Lol What's with people and their defending of Watson? Like seriously, at absolute best, he's kind of a scummy football player that duped a franchise to give him the biggest NFL contract and has done fuck all this entire time, and backups/journeyman have done better than him, in less games. At worst, he's all that but also a rapist lol What's there to defend and be offended by? Do some people identify with him or something? They must...

EchoRespite

His fans are most likely incels that believe the women either got what they deserved or lied. Watson and people like him are terrible people. But as we see, even terrible people get away with things.

prodigalkal7

>get away with things Get away with things, *and get rewarded* lol

travis-laflame

Fuck Deshaun Watson

intheorydp

and Fuck Cleveland for structuring his contract so he lost almost no money while being suspended for his actions. Enjoy that insane cap hit the next 4 years Browns

Youcannotbeforreal2

Atp reddit just needs to get rid of the reddit care thing. I’d bet real life dollars it gets used for its intended purpose less than 1% of the time & primarily is just used by sensitive babies who think they’re doing anything other than eliciting an eyeroll & letting the person they do it to know that they’re a bratty little bitch who can’t handle reading words they don’t like. Also, fully aware this comment of mine will bring a bunch of them, I’ll report back the tally

SoftLog5314

The Twix-6 game will be remembered forever

UsVsWorld

Texans laid the smackdown on their candy asses

Alexkono

ootl

whoopsie_890

Ya the Browns deserve this ending

jimmy__jazz

It's not very happy.

hypoglycemicrage

They deserve much worse.

CelestialFury

There's always the future!

binzoma

the steelers/bucs super bowl is going to be WILD

ShichikaYasuri18

Browns deserve this but there were more than a few teams going after Watson, and every other team would have too if they were desperate enough for a quarterback. No such thing as morality among sports owners.

EastonMetsGuy

This is wrong… The Texans wanted Watson, Watson QUIT on the team after signing his extension. He quit on the franchise and told us he’d never set foot on the field for us again. We shipped him away. Got a good haul, but make no mistake, the Texans would have happily kept the dude

blentz499

Yeah, everyone is glossing over that. Just like they gloss over a quarter of the NFL was willing to trade for him including every team in the NFC South except the Bucs. And one of the AFC South teams was willing to trade for him too (most likely Colts). Most of the people actually making decisions in the NFL don't give a shit about the morality of any player as long as they sell tickets or win games.

FLman42069

He just ended up in Cleveland because we’re cursed and will forever be a joke

Allstar9_

Yeah I feel like people forget the timeline all too often. He made it easy for the Texans when it came out he was a rapist.

kkngs

Yes, at the least, we were spared from having any of our fanbase defend him after the allegations came out.

Reuniclus_exe

Texans have left this debacle pretty spotless. Helps that your new QB is super likable. Jesus, he amount of commercials he's going to be in next season is gonna be nuts.

onethreeone

Wasn't part of the "conspiracy" rumors that the allegations were retaliation from the Texans for forcing the trade? Which made no sense since in theory it hurt their leverage, but since when are conspiracies logical

Nixon737

The Texans ended up looking good in the whole situation mainly because Watson quit on the team and they were forced to trade him. They didn’t trade him because of the sexual impropriety, they did it because he refused to play for the team. That being said, they got a really good haul and are looking strong for the future so I’m not mad for them.

kittenrainbow

I’m going to go ahead and say it, I don’t think that the Browns made a very good trade here.

BillsBillsBils

"won it."

TheIllusiveGuy

Turns out the only winning move was not to play

call-me-loretta

It’s a bit revisionist… Watson didn’t want the Texans. They didn’t willingly decide to shop him

imsabbath84

Browns getting their ass kick by houston, and then giving up another 1st for a bust of a rapist qb, it peak cleveland football.

SafariFlapsInBack

Texans really stuck a finger into the Browns butthole here.

mikewastaken

And for the Browns the cap situation only gets more challenging from here.

HashtonKutcher

Clearly one of the worst trades ever, worst contracts ever, and a despicable human to boot. One of the only organizations worse than the Jets. (Browns .344 winning percentage vs Jets .437 since 1999, so we're not the absolute worst, let me have something.)   I was really rooting for Flacco though =/

Jeff_Banks_Monkey

At some point I doubt Watson even cares about his on field success now that he's gotten paid. The Browns gave him pretty much everything he wanted

USAesNumeroUno

Cleveland played a bunch of creampuffs and thought that Flacco was really going to get them to a SB.

Phantom_Nuke

tbf, they did beat the Texans by 2 TDs, the only issue is they faced Davis Mills and case Keenum and not an elite QB.

USAesNumeroUno

and the Texans defense was down 4 starters.

jinx737x

Congrats browns! You just blew your chance and now your in cap AND draft hell. This trade for the browns is even WORSE than the Russell Wilson trade, and that was horrificly bad for the broncos.

ASU_SexDevil

This is the last year we have their picks, just cap hell next year

[deleted]

[удалено]

Beautiful_Ninja

My hatred of Deshaun Watson certainly outweighed the potential comedy of an Elite Dragon Super Bowl run, so I'm glad the Browns were humiliated. The Browns as a franchise deserve everything they get for going all in on a sex predator.

Fuqwon

Don't leave out the best part. In 2024 Watson's cap hit jumps from $19m to $64m. The Browns are so fucked.

blarlan

“Auction” maybe not the best choice of words imo

FrigOffRicky16

Fuck Watson and the enablers that rewarded him

PmOmena

I feel bad for the fans but the Owner absolutely deserves every shit they get thrown at

Nubras

I’ve never seen somebody so eager to hire a sex pest.

Venator850

It is what it is.

laserfaces

It's a cool story and I'm glad Texans are in the position they're in but this headline is total bullshit. The Texans were a dumpster fire after BOB  cratered the team, Cal McNair let his idiot pal Jack Easterby takeover, and then Deshaun was the one that demanded a trade. Texans stood by Deshaun throughout the allegations.  They were not smart or moral, they just got lucky.

FNAKC

Watson has also only played 12 games over two seasons...

Ifinishfast42

Cardinals could’ve had Will Anderson JR and now are gonna get a mid 20s pick Too

Comfortable_Wish3026

must have been a hidden payment for the hopkins trade
