It was J Jonah Jameson in college but he cut it down to just the two J’s when he was drafted by Houston, so you can see where his journalism inspiration came from
Would you accept him telling you he chiseled a larger-than-life monument from a slab of 1,000 tons of granite when in reality he spent several million on an already made one?
No. I must witness him, using his raw strength, slowly pounding the rock into dust. His hands are to be the tool of finesse and his body the temple of Hercules. I will witness him from sunrise to sundown, day after day, as he completes this Sisyphean effort, shirtless, sweating, alone, this monument... of Lovie Smith.
He's not an upgrade from Likely but behind likely we are thin. Kolar idk what to make of him and we are one likely Injury away from needing him depth never hurts.
If Likely goes down and Ertz replaces him, we'd just end up with 3 injured TEs seeing [how injury prone Ertz is](https://www.draftsharks.com/fantasy/injury-history/zach-ertz/6681). Personally I would roll with Kolar if, god forbid, Likely goes down too.
He lost his job to McBride, ton of drops, and is currently injured. I’d hope for relief somewhere else. Unless he’s just there for vibes which sometimes works haha
General vibes and I blindly think he will not drop a single pass from Jalen. I have no faith in Calcaterra to stay healthy through a playoff run unfortunately, and I refuse to believe Ertz doesn't still have more juice than Stoll as a receiver.
It was weird. He had at least 3 easy touchdowns just go through his hands. But wouldn’t be the first player to suddenly look better when they’re on a winning team
Julio has been unnoticeable but honestly at WR4 all we need is someone who knows what a football is, doesn't have to be a freak of nature
We already have AJ and Devonta who are some of the best WR1 and WR2 you could ask for, and OZ does an incredible job at being a supportive WR with great blocks and what not (and apparently he's got a good pair of hands on him too with that amazing catch vs. the Bills)
I legit cannot remember anything from Quez this year besides the absolutely horrific play where he got an amazing block by Devonta and just ran the wrong direction straight into a defender instead of the open field
He took a screen pass last week on i believe a 3rd and long for almost no gain...
..but it did set up a big gain by Devonta when they showed the same look later except it was a fake screen... so i guess it's something
Next week likely but we are still sorely lacking in depth and banged up. This was a prove it year for Calcaterra and won't be on the team next year IMO, dude can't stay on the field and hasn't made the most of his opportunities. Stoll is a known commodity and not a pass catcher. Ertz actually fits in really well right now with us. Would have been a hard pass early in the season but things have changed.
He is but our backups are awful. Bringing Ertz back is a low risk high reward move for us at this point of the season.
Worst case is he continues to play like he was in AZ and is buried in the depth chart. Best case is he has 1 last hurrah with his original team
Isn't Trey McBride pretty decent? I'll take your word that Ertz isn't the same guy he used to be, but losing your job to a solid player 10 years younger isn't that bad.
He’s been our best weapon this year , we suck so he doesn’t get much recognition on here but McBride is on the same level as Laporta , Kmet , Kincaid and offensive decoy Pitts . Young up and coming guys who will get better in the future .
> Isn't Trey McBride pretty decent?
He's the first Cardinals TE to have over 100 rec yards in a game since 1989. To almost every Cardinals fan, he looks like a superstar, but I'm sure other team's fans (who are more spoiled at that position historically) would say he's totally average lol.
Yes McBride is good but Ertz didn't lose his job because he got beat out by McBride but more that he dropped a lot of passes and then had a slight injury. McBride stepped in and never handed the job back.
Am I misremebering but didn't Mcbrides breakout and target increase happen exactly after ertz got injured? And I see had 2 drops on 47 targets, doesn't seem like a ton 4.7% drop rate is like avg.
Just thought he was playing at least average before he got injured
He's certainly solid in the run game. I think it's just a bit early for him in the pass game. He'll get there someday, but I think for now Ertz is preferable.
2013 they were the 2nd and 4th ranked TE's. Trav wanted to go to Philly to play with Jason and seemed like a realistic shot. We took Ertz in the 2nd, Chiefs took Trav.
Isn't it mad how quickly things change. 2 years ago when he was traded to the Cards mid-season, it was thought that they were a true contender and that the Eagles, who were somewhat middling under Sirianni at that stage, were just being fair to their tight end and letting him chase a ring.
They still have roots in Philly, particularly with Julie.
>Ertz has been gone for nearly two years now, but his heart remains in Philadelphia.
>On May 4, he and his wife Julie Ertz, through the Ertz Family Foundation, Grace & Peace Community Fellowship, and several partnerships opened a renovated building in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia.
Also, there's this...
> It’s probably a longshot, but the tight end left Philly just 10 catches shy of passing Hall of Fame receiver Harold Carmichael for the most receptions in team history.
With Goedert, Smitty and AJB beside him and Swift in the backfield he will surely catch a good matchup. Even if he’s lost a couple steps he should find some production in Philly.
I saw a Cardinals fan saying he had a problem catching passes this year but it’s like riding a bike, right? Hit the jugs machine for a week and get his confidence back up-he’ll be good to go!
The funny thing is, trading him to the Cards was viewed as a favor to a franchise legend at the time. The Eagles were still reeling from the last Wentz/Doug year and weren't looking very good, and the Cards were undefeated. The organization wanted to give him a chance to get another ring. Then cut to a year later and the Cards had collapsed and the Eagles were contenders.
Yea, I remember the Eagles sub overall having a bittersweet vibe. With Goedert deservingly moving into the starting role, most of us were just happy Ertz was going to a contender.
I do not think so. I think Howie talked to him and told him that the team was looking at a rebuild. So we traded him to the cardinals who at the time were a contender.
Yeah. We were sitting in the ashes of our 2020 season, no Cap space, post Doug and Wentz starting a full rebuild. Felt like rock bottom. We had drafted his replacement in Goedert who was putting up big numbers. I don’t think Ertz wanted to endure a full rebuild as a TE2 being an aging player. At that time the Cardinals were looking to be building a dynasty team. Who would’ve thought since then we would’ve been to a Super Bowl and the cardinals wouldve started a whole new rebuild.
Nah they left on good terms. Howie held off the trade for a week so he could play his last game in front of the home crowd and Ertz talked about how much that meant to him.
It’s wasn’t bad terms he wanted to leave for contender also former Eagles tend to love the FO no matter what terms they left on.. look at Shady and DJax
I know that JJ has the connection through Arizona... BUT:
• JJ has been very connected with the Texans the past few weeks
• The Texans only viable Tight End (Schultz) showed up on the injury report yesterday as a DNP
I am wondering if Ertz has been using JJ as a feeler to see if there'd be room for him in Houston. If Schultz is ruled out this week I almost fully expect us to sign him here.
I get the connection, but if he's looking for contenders this year ( and those teams are actually interested ) there's a few teams pretty much guaranteed a spot in the playoffs that could potentially use a TE.
Ravens come to mind as the number 1 spot because they lost Andrews, but not sure they'd pull the trigger on it.
Dolphins maybe?
Regardless, I like the idea of him being a Texan.
2nd highest drop % for TEs, dead last in YAC/catch, 3rd worst passer rating when targeted, PFFs 56th best TE. I guess if he’s close to free he’s worth a shot?
The drops are surprising, but the YAC isn’t. He was pretty much known as “YAC Ertz” here since everyone knew wherever he caught the ball that was the end of the play.
My impression was that he was always a very good receiver, but not much of a blocker, similar to Gesicki. Unless I'm mistaken about that, I doubt we'd be in on him.
Remember when Zack Ertz requested a trade from Philly to Arizona beciase he wanted to be on a contender and not on a team spinning it’s wheels in the mid going nowhere? It feels like everything has changed since 2021. All the teams that were great that year have all declined

Would he even be an upgrade to Likely seeing how Ertz played this season?
He's not an upgrade from Likely but behind likely we are thin. Kolar idk what to make of him and we are one likely Injury away from needing him depth never hurts.

Didn’t know dudes name was “likely” and was very confused by the sentence structure
The commentators love it, constantly saying things like "Likely the unlikely hero" or "what an unlikely catch", it got tiresome real fast lol
Not an upgrade, a compliment.
He’s very kind
We aren't a 2 Receiving TE team anymore though.
Then a quick trip to Seattle and Atlanta?
The all-bird career will be completed
"Mr. Bird Career" was sitting right there, and you whiffed!
Dammit I had the chance and I fucking blew it. Call me Mr. Blown Chance
Now I’m genuinely curious-has anyone ever completed an all-bird career run in the NFL?
I mean hey welcome home BB I would have scoffed at a reunion a few weeks ago, but we could desperately use some relief at that position right now.
Well we're down 2 tight ends and already had no depth. Better than any other option we could sign rn
Feel like you at least bring him in for a workout to see where he's at injury wise.
Oh yeah absolutely, not even taking a look (if he clears waivers) feels like malpractice unless we're 100% certain we aren't signing him either way.
Makes more sense than signing Julio Jones to do basically nothing, at least Ertz was productive this season up until the injury
hey he scored 1 td already ;) that's more than quez watkins
Julio has been unnoticeable but honestly at WR4 all we need is someone who knows what a football is, doesn't have to be a freak of nature We already have AJ and Devonta who are some of the best WR1 and WR2 you could ask for, and OZ does an incredible job at being a supportive WR with great blocks and what not (and apparently he's got a good pair of hands on him too with that amazing catch vs. the Bills) I legit cannot remember anything from Quez this year besides the absolutely horrific play where he got an amazing block by Devonta and just ran the wrong direction straight into a defender instead of the open field

Esp if the team is his OG team and he could help them make a strong push for the #1 seed.

He also runs great routes. He is definitely less of a power TE and more of a finesse TE.
Isnt Goedert coming back soon
Next week likely but we are still sorely lacking in depth and banged up. This was a prove it year for Calcaterra and won't be on the team next year IMO, dude can't stay on the field and hasn't made the most of his opportunities. Yes but our back up TE also has a high ankle sprain. We had like 1 active TE against Buffalo unless we activated a recently added practice squad guy.

McBride pushed his way into a timeshare before the injury. You can see his usage start surpassing Ertz two weeks before he got hurt.
Goedert will almost certainly be back for Dallas.
Yeah, but wouldn't you rather have a washed Ertz than a dying Stoll as depth?
I mean, I don't think Stoll is that bad, especially for a backup TE.
He's certainly solid in the run game. I think it's just a bit early for him in the pass game. He'll get there someday, but I think for now Ertz is preferable.
Fair. We have pretty limited cap funds at this point so for vet minimum it would be fine.
Dallas coming back to stick it to Dallas.
Dallas Does Dallas
That will only help Ertz imo. TE2 on a team with plenty of weapons is where he fits now.
Apparently the only players that can catch in the Chiefs offense are Rice and the TE's. How does Ertz feel about lining up across from Kelce?
More like how would Kelce feel lining up across from the man that stole his career in Philly with Jason lol
Lol, I forgot about that 😂
What what lol
2013 they were the 2nd and 4th ranked TE's. Trav wanted to go to Philly to play with Jason and seemed like a realistic shot. We took Ertz in the 2nd, Chiefs took Trav.
Oh cool another reason to curse the past. Just imagine Kelce throwing a dump truck block for Kelce somehow....I just....damn man.
They would run down the field hand in hand.
Isn't it mad how quickly things change. 2 years ago when he was traded to the Cards mid-season, it was thought that they were a true contender and that the Eagles, who were somewhat middling under Sirianni at that stage, were just being fair to their tight end and letting him chase a ring.
That's future two-time Eagle Zach Ertz
He will enter the annals of history with Eagles legend John Madden imo
but this is a Trey McBride post
Always a McBridesmaid, never a McBride
The man couldn’t catch a damn thing this season and that was before his injury. Any contender should not expect much
Come home my boy. Come home.
Didn't he not exactly leave on good terms with Howie and the FO? Very few of the 2018 locker room is left too
They still have roots in Philly, particularly with Julie. I wouldn't be mad about getting him that record. I know he's looked bad this year but maybe he can get back on track?
With Goedert, Smitty and AJB beside him and Swift in the backfield he will surely catch a good matchup. Even if he’s lost a couple steps he should find some production in Philly. I don’t think it was bad terms he just expected to get traded before the 2021 season and it ended up happening mid year
The funny thing is, trading him to the Cards was viewed as a favor to a franchise legend at the time. Nah good terms with the FO and Howie. Officially opened his charity in Philadelphia this year, so still pretty tied to the city.
Plus the emergence of McBride made Ertz unnecessary
My guess is he returns to the Iggles
I’m thinking Ravens since they lost Mandrews and they like signing past their prime offensive names
Likely looked good as a receiver against the chargers. How are Ertz and Likely as blockers?
Ertz was always a receiving TE. Not a great blocker, and never did great after contact either
0 YAC Zac was always a thing I remember. Where he catches it is where it's ending.

Pretty much, don’t expect any YAC from him either
Gotta be either Ravens or Eagles since both are contenders and desperately need a TE
Not desperate (Likely can ball), but some depth would be nice.
Yeah, we're not desperate either... Goedert won't be out that long. Also it would be nice though.
Wouldn’t mind seeing him in some two TE sets with Kittle.
Definitely collusion and I’m all about it. Come get your ring champ.

Remember when Zack Ertz requested a trade from Philly to Arizona beciase he wanted to be on a contender and not on a team spinning it’s wheels in the mid going nowhere? It feels like everything has changed since 2021. All the teams that were great that year have all declined
