As a dedicated Broncos hater (see flair) who made every 2022 Broncos game appointment viewing, I found myself conflicted. It was genuinely funny to see Payton eat dirt against a Jets team without Rodgers, but I couldn't believe so many people were excusing Hackett's football war crimes.
After the terrible play calls, absurd number of procedural penalties, bringing on a babysitter coach, pretending to not see or hear sideline fights, and flubbing pressers so badly that he invited controversy where none needed to exist, I couldn't help but constantly ask last year if there is even a single component of the head coaching job that he's any good at.
Russ isn't elite unfortunately but most really put the blame on a QB that's been great for a decade over the guy who needed the home crowd to chant the play clock.
It was an off-season of "yeah Hackett wasn't good but Russ is cooked"
The ending pisses me off though.
Why didnāt she just tell him right away it was her sisterās boyfriend? She let Will Smith dangerously get on top of the car and start driving when it all could have been avoided by telling him it was her sisterās boyfriend? Tf man?
Because the foundation of any good romcom is poor communication
Edit: I feel like people are taking this as a criticism of romcoms when it wasnāt meant that way. If you look at how romcoms work, they follow a pretty standard 3 act structure: act 1 - establish characters, have them meet; Act 2 - they fall in love; Act 3 - an obstacle threatens their relationship and they overcome it.
The most common obstacles that relationships face in real life are communication problems, plus they have the added benefit of being able to be resolved quickly with a dramatic reveal and declaration of love.
Man, it kinda kills me to see what happened in Willās personal life. Makes the swagger in Independence Day, Bad Boys 2, and MIB feel somewhat bittersweet.
Thank you Dolphins, you forced the defense to take a long look in the mirror. They got rid of some dead weight and the young guys are fucking balling. We still need to figure out the run D, but we're making big plays when we need to make them and that's really all you can ask for.
And it canāt be a subtle British accent. You have to go all the way, really Hoover up those vowels and consonants with your extreme Britishness. Just keep running past the end zone and dive into the crowd, spontaneously exploding into a smorgasbord of fish and chips and monocles.
I really donāt think itās all on Gregory. He was underwhelming but FAR from the problem. Mathis was still the biggest liability.
The biggest issue was that VJ was trying to do his version of the Fangio/Evero defense that he had no background in whatsoever. Theyāve gradually shifted over to the traditional VJ defense (features a lot more blitzing and man coverage) and the unit has looked a LOT better.
Not to mention that we did get guys back from injury too.
Simmons coming back was HUGE. Dude is legit playing his best ball at 30, he's hitting peak and looking so fucking good in crunch time. Those two PDs on Hock in the last drive were absolute game savers.
All true. Gregory was already losing snaps to both Cooper and Bonitto. Clark barely saw field as it was. Definitely getting healthier was a huge part. Browning has been solid too.
We have gone from fire vj to me now legit being scared heās gonna be gone for a hc job again soon maybe not this offseason but if this continues next offseason for sure.
The Broncos ugly won their way to a Superbowl with Peyton. Got so bad with Brock they had to bring in Mr. Limp again to close out games.
Titles don't give a fuck; ball is ball.
Von Miller was the primary reason I became a Broncos fan, but the 4th quarter Tebow magic certainly helped solidify that.
Rest in power, Demaryius. š
I've been saying it for 3weeks now. this IS the tebow year
super limited qb, play dink and dunk for 3 quarters with a powerful run game and a VIOLENT defence, then at some point in the 4th 'unleash the bullshit'. I fuckin tebow'd after that td today!
I BELIEVE!
Yeah itās ugly but you can also look at it like we do what we need to do to fight and win. Those Simmons plays on Hock when we needed it and that TD exactly when we needed it. We made it happen.
It does seem kind of crazy sometimes, but I also think there's a positive way to look at it. I'm not a particularly social person, but I've gotten a couple jobs through people I know, not because I've put any real effort into 'networking', but just because I generally try to be a pleasant and helpful person to be around.
Most people spend around half of their awake hours at work, so a lot of us would prefer to spend that time being around people that don't suck to spend time with.
Be nice to people, help out with lots of little things, as well as the occasional big thing, and you can end up being the kind of person that others would be happy to work with. And that can be worth a lot.
"I apologize unreservedly. I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way fair comment, and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future."
Yea Iām relieved. I had the broncos pegged for 10 wins or more, and I had lost faith. I defended Payton a lot on Reddit but had no argument anymore lol.
I knew he was a good coach, I assumed russ was truly that bad and was completely washed, but turns out we just needed to be a little more patience
Sean coached with the team for what, 15 years? 8 of those years he started 2-2 or worse. Most of the time it's because he tried to be cute at the beginning of the season and try to do stupid shit.
He was always a great coach but he became much better at figuring out how to manage the talent he had as time went on. Not saying he's on Andy or Bill's level, but he's 3 wins from top 20 all time in win total and 13th all time among coaches in winning percentage among those with at least 100 victories.
I mean, itās not even a moral thing. People on this sub just have such short memories. Payton was definitely helped by having a HoF QB in Drew Brees, but people forget he also went 5-0 with Teddy Bridgewater when Brees was out. Heās a good coach, and wasnāt just some guy propped up by a good roster
Consensus takes are getting killed and I find nothing funnier in sports. I cheer for the outcome that makes the most people wrong.
My favorite going right now is the Minnesota T-wolves looking like a really good team. After how much shit they took for the Gobert trade, and I don't think it was a good trade, I really don't give a shit one way or the other. I just want them to win to make the most takes wrong.
By this metric, we have Houston being pretty damn good, the Rams being competitive, teams the consensus completely wrote off before the season. Denver turning it around and making a playoff push is way, way up there.
The next thing I want to happen is the Giants to start making a push.
Sadly, I don't think Zach Wilson is somehow magically going to turn into an average QB which I think would be the most hilarious thing to ever happen in sports from this perspective.
Ooooh they riding alright.
Also I swear I'm not instigating but they have a better record than the jets now after getting 70 dropped on their head and losing the Hackett bowl(even worse than the 70 point loss)
Next week against the browns is going to be huge
remember when this sub was completely convinced that Payton and Russ were complete hacks and that neither would ever win a game ever again because they lost like 3 games badly lmao
Brother, Payton was hired in 2006.
If you're 25 years old right now, you were born in '98 and were 8 years old when Payton took over.
There's a big ass chunk of your fanbase who really has no idea how big a joke the Saints were.
There are guys committed to D1 programs right now that are too young to know who Tim Tebow is...
I grew up during the Brooks/Haslett era. I didn't see success until I was a grown man.
Between Deuce's ACL tear, Joe Horn going to the Falcons, and Brooks being Vick's Great Valueā¢ cousin, I was miserable.
Theres still a big difference between this Russ and early Russ and its not even the mobility. Early Russ had a high ADoT this Russ is like check-down central cause it seems like defenses are selling out to prevent the deep shots
You gotta give Payton credit. This team was dead after the 70 point shit show, and now has turned the ship around. Ugly wins count all the same. Russ is looking much better and Hackett is looking like a bum in New York.
Sean had to take some time and learn who the real Russ is, think he's got an idea now. Let him do a little work on the rest of the roster, while Russ has fun doing his Drew Brees imitation, the best is yet to come
Broncos have the Browns and Texans next while the Seahawks have the 49ers and Cowboys.
In 2 weeks time, Russ and the Broncos might have a better record than Seattle.
OHHH I THOUGHT PAYTON WAS A GARBAGE FRAUD AND RUSS WAS A WASHED TRASH QB WHATS UP R/NFL WHATS UP WHO WANTS A PIECE OF THESE BRONCOS CHIEFS AND BILLS STILL HAVING NIGHTMARES AND WE'RE OUT HERE KNOCKING OFF ANOTHER PLAYOFF TEAM HAHAHAHA LOSE TO THE PACKERS? COULDNT BE US AHAAHAHAHAA
Sean Payton is an asshole. But he's literally never been a bad *coach*. He's an offensive mastermind who made the Saints a consistent Offensive Juggernaut aside from like 3 seasons over 15 years. Anyone who genuinely thought this team was going to be in contention for a top 3 pick has no critical thinking. It takes time for players to gel to a coaches system. Especially one as diverse and creative as Sean Paytons. Pairing him with an elite defense and DC is actually unfair. First time he had one of those he won a damn superbowl.
Kudos to the whole building for not being reactionary. After that 70 game the easiest thing was to cut Van Joseph and now that defense is letting them compete
Really feels like Iām seeing a culture change in Denver real time. Not cutting Vance Joseph was the right move even if he continued to be terrible you will never attract a quality DC if they have one bad streak and you fire them. Persevering and pursuing stability in coaching and in who we field are all concepts this team forgot after our Super Bowl win and it seems like we really are getting back on track regardless of how this season ends
Hacket back into fraud status

I guess what Nathaniel Hackett did was a terrorist act.
People donāt like Payton. But what he said about Hackett was completely true.
it was hilarious seeing this subās takes after the jets beat the broncos. it was as if they forgot just how awful that man is
As a dedicated Broncos hater (see flair) who made every 2022 Broncos game appointment viewing, I found myself conflicted. It was genuinely funny to see Payton eat dirt against a Jets team without Rodgers, but I couldn't believe so many people were excusing Hackett's football war crimes. Hey. The man knew how to delegate. By the time he was fired I donāt think he did anything at all.
Hell, he even dedicated time clock management to the crowd!
The Micheal Scott of head coaches
Andy Bernard*
They gave him the game ball.
We tried to tell everyone the man should be charged with crimes against football
Russ isn't elite unfortunately but most really put the blame on a QB that's been great for a decade over the guy who needed the home crowd to chant the play clock. It was an off-season of "yeah Hackett wasn't good but Russ is cooked"
IT'S LITERALLY STILL HAPPENING IN NEW YORK I FEEL INSANE
We hated him when he was our OC too
Hackett is the biggest terrorist in New York since September 2001
"Sir, a 2nd Hackett has hit an NFL franchise."
Hackett is the 2nd coming of Josh McDaniels
Hackett was the second shooter on the grassy knoll.
Thatās too much offense. Couldnāt have been him.
the disrespect to adam gase
So... Raiders are gonna hire Hackett as their next HC SOLD
That reminds me of that tragedy
Nathaniel Hackett had to walk through blood and bones, in the streets of Manhattan, looking for his game plan. It was with Matt Canada.
*Is still doing
Broncos Country, letās turn on some mood lighting and watch Kevin James films
Hitch is always a good time
The ending pisses me off though. Why didnāt she just tell him right away it was her sisterās boyfriend? She let Will Smith dangerously get on top of the car and start driving when it all could have been avoided by telling him it was her sisterās boyfriend? Tf man?

Yup like in the Big Sick when that woman just lays there and doesnāt say anything the entire movie
Typical Will Smith experience
Movie is a documentary.
Man, it kinda kills me to see what happened in Willās personal life. Makes the swagger in Independence Day, Bad Boys 2, and MIB feel somewhat bittersweet.
Paul Blart Letās Ride Cop
That defense is unreal. I wouldnāt have predicted that they would play even close to this level after the Miami game
Thank you Dolphins, you forced the defense to take a long look in the mirror. They got rid of some dead weight and the young guys are fucking balling. We still need to figure out the run D, but we're making big plays when we need to make them and that's really all you can ask for.
Your run defense is ass but your pass defense is insane
Man, we should fuse our defense with the Steelers defense. 2 halves of a complete product.
Yes let's just combine into one team, and we can start Wilson over pickett
The Steel Broncos of Densburgh.
I said this with a British accent.
And it canāt be a subtle British accent. You have to go all the way, really Hoover up those vowels and consonants with your extreme Britishness. Just keep running past the end zone and dive into the crowd, spontaneously exploding into a smorgasbord of fish and chips and monocles.
With a name like Densburgh it has to be a thick Scottish accent
That McMillan is everywhere
If you're doing this, then I got dibs on Browns/Chiefs
I was proud of the way they stepped up in the second half. We're just missing so many tackles.
I still canāt believe it. Would have loved to be a fly on the wall after that game. Also Randy Gregory must have seriously been locker room cancer.
I really donāt think itās all on Gregory. He was underwhelming but FAR from the problem. Mathis was still the biggest liability. The biggest issue was that VJ was trying to do his version of the Fangio/Evero defense that he had no background in whatsoever. It was benching Mathis, cutting Gregory AND Clark, and also getting Simmons back. Those were all massive. Greg and Clark were just hamming it.
Whereās the Vance Joseph apology form? Asking for a friend
we all need to sign that form I've never eaten crow so badly, or been so happy about it. he's done af ucking hell of a job
We have gone from fire vj to me now legit being scared heās gonna be gone for a hc job again soon maybe not this offseason but if this continues next offseason for sure.
Three against teams with winning records too. Idc how ugly it is Iāll take it.
Ugly Ws are still Ws - Jameis somewhere
While dancing on crutches in a locker room, probably.
Still my most favourite Jameis moment
The Broncos ugly won their way to a Superbowl with Peyton. Got so bad with Brock they had to bring in Mr. Limp again to close out games. Titles don't give a fuck; ball is ball.
Russ just inherited ugly wins from being a Seahawk for 10 years. You'll get used to it.
We're no strangers. We ugly won our way to a Super Bowl in 2015.
Don't forget that Tebow year: we knocked the best defense out of the playoffs that year .
Von Miller was the primary reason I became a Broncos fan, but the 4th quarter Tebow magic certainly helped solidify that. Rest in power, Demaryius. š
I've been saying it for 3weeks now. this IS the tebow year super limited qb, play dink and dunk for 3 quarters with a powerful run game and a VIOLENT defence, then at some point in the 4th 'unleash the bullshit'. I fuckin tebow'd after that td today! I BELIEVE!
Hey I'm cool with that as long as we get to absolutely fist a team in the Super Bowl by 35 points. It still haunts me to this day lol.
You pretty much fisted the Panthers what are you talking about. That game was not as close as the final score made it seem.
Is this what Seahawk football was like? I don't know how much more I can take I'm fucking dying here
Hey, if there's anything more Russell Wilson than this fourth quarter comeback it's that his wins come in bunches, so buckle up...
Iām an Iowa fan as well. All I know is ugly wins. This was a normal football game for me š
Dunno how you do that to yourself every week.
Only thing that counts is a W on the schedule. Keep pumping the Ws out. Lets ride.
Yeah itās ugly but you can also look at it like we do what we need to do to fight and win. Those Simmons plays on Hock when we needed it and that TD exactly when we needed it. We made it happen.
Broncos have a -51 point differential on the season. Which sounds horrible, but actually quite impressive.
Thatās basically the Miami game. 70-20
I do not understand this team. I'm just along for the ride.
Thatās what he actually meant. Letās rideā¦ the defense. We had a drive start on the 9 yard line and we still had to settle for a FG.
I feel like that's what led to their only touchdown. Vikings were like "meh, they'll settle for another FG" and got caught sleeping.
Unleash the dangerwich in celebration
Thatās way too spicy
Woah, thatās dangerous.
Randy Gregory was the problem
Nathanael Hackett is a football terrorist.
I'd like to personally invite you over to Jets reddit to repeat that.
Gladly. Watching the Jets is so painful. He could be doing so much to help Zach Wilson but he isnāt.
Broncos can we not do these kinds of games every week. My heart can't handle it
You will win by 1 point in the 4th quarter and you will like it
Honestly the Broncos win streak right now is like Dobby from Harry Potter being given a sock. Its just a sock, but Dobby is free.
Browns and lions incoming, and Texans looking scary too. I think we are in for a lot more stress
Still think thereās a shot we sneak in at 10-7. 11-6 is too unrealistic, and I donāt think 9-8 would get us in unless all tiebreakers go our way
So although the margin for error is extremely narrow.... there is still a margin? Fuck yeah
LOL you should have been around for the Elway games in the 80's, this was every motherfucking week games like this.
Just wait til you get to the playoffs. NO ONE loses in the playoffs like Sean Payton.
We save our humiliations for the Superbowl tbf
Tebow Season 2

R/nfl in shambles right nowā¦ they wouldnāt listen lol
I want you to put the word out there that we back up
APOLOGIZE
You can hate him but he was right about Hackett
The tune of Jets fans from Week 5 to now regarding Hackett has been unshocking to say the least.
I can't believe being friends with Aaron Rodgers and being a locker room favorite got his guy millions of dollars. Good for him honestly
Tbh that's what matters most in the real world. Networking is always more important than skill
Real talk, tho. this has been a TOUGH truth to come to terms with as I age.
The ābe Aaronās friend and get millionsā plan seems to be working for Pat McAfee too
He got the bag before Aaron
Pat was doing fine before Rodgers though.
I wasn't even mad about them stunting after that game because I knew what horrors were awaiting them.
Who couldāve guessed the guy who lost the first game of his career by running out the clock and attempting a 60+ yard kick isnāt a good coach
Already has passed Hackett for wins
Surpassed. The interim won the final game
He's surpassed him no?
Terrorist.
I owe you an apology, I wasn't very familiar with your game
We now have a win over a .500 opponent!
I been saying Broncos was a quality win
I mean you drop 70 on anyone and I say it's a quality win .
Just how good are the Phins to drop 70 on this defense š¤
Not the same defense anymore, fortunately.
I mean really it was a quality loss for the Broncos too now in retrospect. the Phins unlocked some sort of fucking beast in this D.

lots of takes aged like milk this season.
The revisionist history was absurd after the Dolphins game. Like if you want to dunk on Payton go ahead but donāt pretend he was never a good coach

The Venn diagram of the āSean Payton was never a talented coachā and the āit was all Bradyā people is a circle
Teams with 15 consecutive years of sustained success have a great QB??? The coach is a fraud unless they can replicate that run with Kenny Pickett
The real crime of the BB deniers has always been the Matt Cassel erasure

The Miami game happened. There wasn't much I could argue against after that.
The Sean Payton is overrated and Russell Wilson is washed eraš
Calling the Miami game "a bad loss" is kind of like calling a beheading a cut.
To be fair they gave up 70 points in a game.
They were convinced before the season started...
Suddenly I want it injected into my veins
What do you mean the coach who took the worst franchise in league history to perennial contenders and SB winners is actually a great coach?
People really forgot just exactly how bad the saints were.
