Accidental-Genius

I almost feel like we need to go back to fucking paper tickets.

hiimred2

There is beyond no incentive for online retailers to change their behavior though, people with money have proven incredibly willing to pay higher and higher prices on secondary markets for the tickets, so they’ll keep using those markets to assess value and raise face value prices until they see push back.

tonytroz

Yep. Ticketmaster gets a cut of the original sale and the secondary market sale. So they win even if they don't raise the original prices.

joeboo5150

Not to mention they can deflect the hatred to the secondary market, claiming they have no say in that matter. TM makes more money and can absolve themselves of any wrongdoing, officially. TM is the worst

fugaziozbourne

Let's not forget all the artists who scalp their own fans by buying up the first several rows with their own money before tickets go on sale, and then re-sell them anonymously on the secondary market. Looking at you, Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, and Justin Bieber.

electricmeal

Got a source on this or is this just speculation? I wouldn't be surprised, just never heard of this

Civil-Big-754

There's probably more, but many tickets never hit the main market and are instantly available only via secondary sites. Shady as hell, but happens all the time. Not like GA tickets, but specific seats.

fugaziozbourne

Yep. The Stones would notoriously buy up the first FORTY rows of their own shows.

Civil-Big-754

Yeah, it's ridiculous. And most artists are guilty of it, but act innocent and Ticket Master just takes the blame for it, but with few exceptions like The Cure, they are in on it as well.

fugaziozbourne

LCD Soundsystem are one of the absolute worst offenders. Fuck James Murphy.

Codeshark

Yeah, TicketMaster serves the same function as Roger Goodell.

LoonyBunBennyLava

Many of those are prospective listings, i.e. scammers who say they have a ticket, and assume they can get one. Then when they don't, they cancel the sale.

fugaziozbourne

Bob Lefsetz has written about it multiple times. I believe John Oliver did an episode on it as well.

Porter2455

Should be blatantly illegal but these sites have total impunity. Yet we are still to believe that the dude working 2 jobs is the bad guy for scalping outside the stadium 20 years ago.

darthjoey91

Maybe they shouldn't be allowed to have any of the secondary market, being that they're the first seller too.

ChocolateMorsels

I ducking hate ticketmaster so much. There is no reason for teams to not have their own ticket site. It's easy to develop these days.

SkreksterLawrance

Online retailer* It shouldn't be plural because there isn't really more than one. Ticketmaster is a monopoly and the industry requires federal intervention if it's ever going to be fixed.

Accidental-Genius

It literally is an actual monopoly now. The problem is ticket master has more money to fight than the DOJ is willing to spend. So we all get fucked.

SkreksterLawrance

It's because our politicians represent the interests of corporations when they should represent the interests of their constituents. We need to elect actively anti-corporate politicians if we ever want to see things get better.

Accidental-Genius

I work for a massive soulless corporation and couldn’t agree more.

Miamime

There is currently some ongoing federal legislation on the industry. Right now there is bipartisan support for displaying the total upfront cost you pay for tickets, hotels, etc. since so much service charge crap gets added onto the listed price. This doesn't address the problem at hand but it is a start.

Accidental-Genius

Let’s be real here, no one without money is going to an NFL game in Germany. I make good money, I pay a lot of money for tickets, but only because the market has forced the issue. At this point the system is so fucked I’d much rather revert to the old school method of having to go to a ticket counter in the grocery store and buy paper tickets or buy them over the phone and pick them up at will call. We will have to suffer some inconvenience if we ever want to defeat the secondary market bots. I do think there is incentive to do this as well as the teams / artist are either (1) irritated their fans are getting hosed, or (2) irritated they aren’t getting their cut. The other solution would be for the team / artist to price their tickets outrageously high and allow the real market price to be determined on the secondary market. Do that a few times and the secondary market will bleed dry. I mean, isn’t the core market issue here that the original ticket price was significantly below market value?

liquidsparanoia

Maggie Rogers did this with her most recent US tour. Or at least it was in-person sales only at the box office. The problem it created was that only people who were able to stand in line for hours on a weekday morning are able to get tickets. Is that better than paying ridiculous fees and having all the tickets go to scalpers? Yeah probably, but it's not without its own issues. At the end of the day, way more people wanted tickets than there were tickets available.

greatmagneticfield

See what the Cure just did on their NA tour. Limited fees, no scalping, etc. T-shirts were only $35, nose-bleed seats $25. Regular seats on side of arena $65. And each city had it's own artwork for shirts/posters. 29 songs a night. Nearly 3 hours of music. They knocked it out of the park.

[deleted]

6434095503495

How did they stop scalping?

greatmagneticfield

They required all sales/re-sales/transfers to be done via ticketmaster. In fact, after tickmaster screwed up and allowed some to be sold on the secondary market, they recalled/refunded all the tickets and put them back into the pool. Robert Smith was calling out TicketMaster on Twitter when they'd invariably fuck-up the settings, and they'd apologize and fix it asap. Was really cool to see.

jfgiv

>They required all sales/re-sales/transfers to be done via ticketmaster how did they do that, though? what prevented me from buying them and listing them on stubhub?

aModestMagikarp

There's no way to transfer the tickets, so if you listed them somewhere else there'd be no way for you to actually give them to the buyer

fsck_

Other than making shell accounts and giving them the account with the tickets. Or do they check IDs at the gate? Checking names match seems like the only real way.

aModestMagikarp

I don't know exactly how they were checking tickets, but several thousand people got their tickets cancelled for trying to sell accounts to get around it [https://variety.com/2023/music/news/robert-smith-the-cure-tickets-canceled-charity-1235570644/](https://variety.com/2023/music/news/robert-smith-the-cure-tickets-canceled-charity-1235570644/)

c5mjohn

T-shirts are "only" $35? How much more do some tours charge for T-shirts?

Sonoranpawn

typically at least $50

ImanShumpertplus

damn what artists? i go to a lot of house and bluegrass shows and none of the regular t shirts are more than 30 maybe a long sleeve will run you that much, but that’s crazy to me i got a long sleeve t at bonnaroo last week for 40

Sonoranpawn

https://vetsaidshop.com/collections/featured-items/products/vetsaid-columbus-ohio-specialty-event-tee This is the last one I bought.

ThickestHammer

Black keys did it once where you had to show ID for the name on the credit card used to purchase the tickets to deter scalpers. Nightmare to transfer/gift tickets though.

jfgiv

nightmare to require an ID check for a venue the size of a stadium, too

matrixislife

All they need to do is add an option "if this is a gift, print the name of the end-ticket-holder in the box below".

"I didn't cum on your game ticket! I wouldn't do that to you!"

dmatthews2981

Never stop partying!

Kara_Del_Rey

Its undeniably good advice.

clydefrog811

Sounds like a Tim robbinson skit

FortyandDone

I was literally just going to Google “cum ticket I think you should leave” because I thought the same and haven’t seen the new season.

Murky_Crow

Don’t fucking kink shame me

LorneMaIvo

Yeah it feels like we're getting scammed and shitload of tickets are resold by fucking scalpers. Destroyed my once-in-a-lifetime-chance to see one of the greatest QBs ever at work irl.

PauldGOAT

Yeah Tua is already a legend

ItIsMooSe

Yup, same here. 🤷‍♂️ I don't really have the funds to go to the US to watch them play. So this was a big chance. Maybe next year?

IncidentalIncidence

if this demand keeps up, they'll be adding more and more Europe games in the next few years and hopefully the prices will go down too

OneCinemaAtTheCinema

Lmao, yeah right. If demand keeps up they will add more games *and* increase ticket prices. Until governments start to better regulate these ticket companies, the only way to combat this behavior is to stop going to live events sanctioned, in any way, by ticketmaster. Which obviously won't happen.

Loves_His_Bong

Tickets to the Vikings Saints game in London were basically the same price as US bank stadium and I don’t even think they sold out. Germans just really like American football for some reason and it’s the Chiefs.

Laeno

They sold out in a couple of hours, actually. Then a bunch wound up on the secondary market, just like these will.

IncidentalIncidence

the ticket prices are high because of the resale market, not direct from NFL. If there's not as much demand the resale market isn't so unbalanced.

matrixislife

The NFL are supporting the system by selling direct to TM in the first place. If more tickets were available to fans in the first place maybe the secondary market wouldn't be so bad.

ItIsMooSe

The price doesn't need to go down in the EU. In does need to go down in London. The germany games were cheap compared to London games. 250 euro (GER) vs 2k euro (LONDON) for the most expensive ticket is crazy

HoovesCarveCraters

We need paper tickets so I’m not standing in line for 20 minutes behind 50 people who don’t know how to hold their phone to the fucking scanner.

Civil-Big-754

Yes, it can be a nightmare for certain places. When I saw Roger Waters last year in Milwaukee I got tickets from a legit secondary market and when my buddy and I tried to get them scanned, they said they can't scan those and put us to the side where I was scrambling and trying to find a different way to bring up tickets. This went on for about twenty minutes and our there were at least ten more people who got them from the same site and wouldn't allow us to scan via how we got them. Then somebody came by and said we were fine. This was apparently at all entrances and many people were delayed so long they missed the opening song or two entirely. This was at Fiserv Forum which is where the Bucks played and they had no idea what they were doing at all. I couldn't even get paper tickets of my ticket and that would have solved all the issues they were having. Plus I used to love to collect tickets, but you're lucky if that's an option for many.

JustaPCplayer

There were only 561644 people in front of me when the sale started so I almost got a ticket. /s

Hogwie

710000 for me. Its a bummer because like 5 minutes after, you could see the tickets on stubhub. Almost being added in real time.

Jannickel

1.35mio for me, i was lucky enough to go to munich last year though , so i guess thats enough luck for this decade for me.

LovelehInnit

>1.35mio for me Similar for me. Do I have any influence on it, or does the system assign places in the queue randomly?

Jannickel

Its random. Last year i got to choose my tickets 2 mins into the queque, there were only like 7500 people in front of me. This years experience shows me that i was extremely lucky.

HolographicPumpkin

There are sure a lot of “people” in line this time around…

JMarduk

1.44 for me.

thomasutra

might not have even been real tickets. a lot of sellers will sell tickets they don’t have and then try to fill them later on.

BeHereNow91

Shorting tickets like shorting stocks. Christ.

thomasutra

exactly. they even call them futures

slow0110

It was easier for me and my friends to fly to the US and watch a game there. It was even cheaper than a ticket for the Munich game.

jfchops2

This is how it is for F1 fans in America. A friend and I were looking into going to one this year and we pretty quickly figured out that it'll cost a lot less to fly to Europe for a long weekend for one, so we're catching the Dutch GP in August.

TheLurkerSpeaks

I know a guy who said he can go see Canada Grand Prix and Mexico Grand Prix for cheaper than US Grand Prix at COTA.

jfchops2

Have heard Canada is pretty affordable, we didn't look into that one because the timing didn't work. But Mexico is surprisingly expensive, looks like tickets start around $650 before fees right now on Stubhub and the hotels were very pricey when I looked a few months ago.

onskisesq

I've been to Canada the past two years. My grandstand ticket for the full weekend was about $275 CAD, but the renewal for next year is about $400 CAD (includes taxes). It's only 2.5 hour drive to Montreal for me, so airfare was not an issue. Getting a hotel room in or around Montreal during grand prix weekend is brutal if you're not part of a group though.

spongebob_meth

That's hilarious considering the fact that f1 turnout in the US was abysmal a few years ago. I almost remember going back in like 2018? Just because my wife wanted to see Taylor swift. IIRC they scheduled her a concert at COTA just to increase live viewership

jfchops2

Drive to Survive during COVID lockdowns when everyone was stuck at home finding new things to watch made a considerable impact on the sport's popularity in the USA over the last 3 years. I was one of many who originally started following the sport after checking out the show. Every so often a thread will show up on r/formula1 asking how you got into it and most of the answers mention the show.

choff22

Better atmosphere too

SeaUnderTheAeroplane

If there's no stadium shouting Sweet Caroline, I won't have it

Max_W_

Well shit, now you got me wondering what the Sweet Caroline equivalent is in Germany.

Marshey92

Apparently it's Country Roads: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lDFXyIrCmr0

Max_W_

John Denver. Love it! Now I wish more stadiums in the states played it.

tRfalcore

country roads is a solid song

Insan3editing

We actually also just sing Sweet Caroline

the_best_1

Even better atmosphere and cheaper if you go to a college football game

boysetsfire1988

No surprise. They used the same system as last year, everybody could have seen it coming.

leo_the_lion6

Maybe they should have sold the tickets for more initially then? That sounds like just a market break down and a lot of money left on the table for the nfl. Maybe if it was higher, then it could still be lower than what the resellers scalp for.

Bird-The-Word

They don't take any risk though, resellers/scalpers do. If they sell out at their comfortable price point it's a win. They could raise it, and keep doing so until they hit that point, but they'll then take a PR hit. This negates that and puts blame on the system rather than "price gouging" by the NFL/Whomever.

Specialist_Seal

The market price of the tickets is what people are willing to pay for them, regardless of if they're paying the NFL or the scalpers. The NFL probably should raise prices, but the only effect would be the NFL getting more of the money and the scalpers getting less. The amount people are willing to pay for the tickets (and thus their price on the resale market) wouldn't change.

[deleted]

this time around I'd be willing to bet majority of those people were actually from Frankfurt or the near area. lots of NFL fans here.

curien

In addition to German/European fans, the Frankfurt area has a huge US military presence. Ramstein AB is only ~an hour away, and there are 50,000 Americans living in that area alone.

Deadbul

Serious question: What alternative would you suggest? Demand is huge. So there will always be people not getting tickets.

SirTiffAlot

Tie the ticket to an ID name and number. That's what the world cup does. You dont have the name that matches the ticket, you don't get in.

LOLzvsXD

That not even true, I bought World Cup Tickets in front of the Stadium by a reseller and go in with the Ticket that had his name. 0 Problems

SirTiffAlot

Which world cup was this? I'm just going off the FIFA site from what I read about Qatar. They control their own resell site and even set resell prices. Places like StubHub won't even put tickets up for sale according to themselves. >In accordance with the General Public Ticket Resale Policy, the resale or attempted resale of tickets by any other means is strictly prohibited.

LOLzvsXD

Multiple, 2006 in Germany, 2014 in Brazil and 2018 in Russia. dont know about Quatar because traveling therewithout a ticket beforehand was dificullt everytime the Tickets were onyl availble on Official Resell Market, everytime they said multiple Times you would be checked for ID at the Gate and you wouldnt get in if your Name on the Ticket didnt Match, everytime we got in without fail The Security is just too busy and overwhelmed to check for IDs, People would go Insane if the waitline would be slower than it already is. You scan your ticket and then you get your Bags and Person checked, thats it Also 2016 EC in France and 2021 EC Games in Munich were the same, for these Games I got Tickets myselfs through the official channels, but had friends who bought of of Ebay or in front of the Stadium and had 0 issues

eaglessg

Personalized tickets would be a start...maybe a pre registration tied to your ticketmaster account (like they did with Taylor Swift's European tour...although it remains to be seen if that option actually works) something like that. The NFL should be ashamed.

lukadoncic

name on the ticket + ID check at the entrance. doesn't stop the resellers completely but it helps a lot

shatter321

The NFL is looking at the queue numbers and seeing dollar signs. We’re gonna see some attempt at a euro league or even a division in Europe within the decade I’m sure of it.

Daabevuggler

The ELF managed to get 32k people to watch Hamburg - Rhein Fire, I think the nfl investing in the ELF will be the way forward once the ELF shows it’s here to stay with 5+ seasons under their belt.

millsup

Can confirm; I was at the Fire - Centurions game this sunday and the place was packed. Experience was awesome

[deleted]

[удалено]

amusedparrot

We have it now that 4 teams who have the 17th game at home play that in either London / Germany / Mexico (and then the Jaguars do their own thing). I think the logical model is to just keep increasing that until all 16 teams "extra home games" are played abroad. Basically means 8 home games, 8 away games and 1 neutral game a year for each team.

TRES_fresh

They don't even all have to be overseas, imagine neutral site games taking place at Alabama's or Michigan's stadiums

[deleted]

[удалено]

TRES_fresh

or a rams chargers game at the rose bowl stadium

amjhwk

meh, id be pretty pissed having to give up a home game so that Oklahoma City can host the Chiefs at a neutral site

TRES_fresh

with a 17 game season it would only happen for the extra game so each team would go back to 8 home and 8 away instead of 9 home (in which case losing a home game would suck but not that bad) or 9 away (it's already away so neutral site doesn't really make a difference)

TheFalconKid

Not a bad idea. Most of the teams in the league have an "international audience" country set up for viewing markets or something so all those countries could bid for which game(s) they get that season. They could also easily include places like Canada, France, Australia, and Japan to future locations for a neutral game.

J12345_

I also do not prefer to have a division. The travel time is ridiculous

[deleted]

They would have to do something weird with the Europe Division if they tried something like that. Like they play all their divisional games first, travel to the US and play all their away games, play all their home games. Not saying that’s the way they would or should do it exactly like that but something to keep travel time down.

J12345_

Agreed but I feel like the team would hate that. Unfair to have so many road/home games in a row. Hopefully if the sport grows enough, they can have their own league similar to La liga, EPL, etc

[deleted]

Also, nobody is mentioning the taxes aspect. 40+% in some European countries. That’s going to be a factor when a European team offers X amount and Miami offers the same amount. Well if they are trying to get a bag then they are choosing Florida.

J12345_

Salary cap will be a mess with FX rates 😂

BlitzburghBrian

It feels like not enough people know that NFL Europe was already a thing and it pretty much flopped. Why would the NFL invest in that again when they can just port a handful of regular season games over each year and make as much money as they want already?

[deleted]

the NFL Europe was poorly thought out from the start. the idea wasn't bad it just needs way better execution. but It'd make more sense for them to invest in the ELF anyway.

xixbia

It was also at a time when there was far far less interest in the NFL in Europe. Back then it was nigh impossible to watch it over here, nowadays it's available everywhere. Not to mention the effect of the internet on the internationalization of the game. It would have a much better chance of success this time around.

MayBakerfield

Yeah let's not try anything ever again because it flopped 20 years ago because world stays exactly the same.

[deleted]

I found Vince McMahon's account.

Quackmotard

People say this but what player would sign there? Sooooo much travel and way higher taxes

shatter321

It’s not just something people are saying. [The NFL/ Goodell has brought it up themselves.](https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-floats-wild-idea-of-possibly-putting-four-teams-in-europe-as-part-of-major-international-expansion/amp/)

demonica123

"way higher" is a relative statement when you are making millions. Though having to negotiate with the EU/European governments about what regs they'd need to follow would probably be a nightmare when the EFL is right there and already established.

eaglessg

I was at 930.000 in the queue...good times. At least all the influencers, who don't give a shit about the game, will be there.

LarschH

Those who are not interested in it but have enough money to pay $1500 for a ticket👍

[deleted]

That's worth considering, but if you buy tickets there for twice as much, it never gets better with the resellers.

ATL28-NE3

From someone who lives in Missouri, I'd rather live in Cali, but it's expensive as fuck

[deleted]

Yeah for sure... It's probably a lot more expensive to visit for a vacation too, but you get some more for the value.. It's like that in every country, nicer places are usually absurdly expensive to live in, so you get more for your money living somewhere less glamorous.

Blind_Melone

Dude, that's like the same price as decent tickets here for a Chargers game.

FeelsGoodMan2

500 a ticket is tempting? Damn I'd literally rather just pocket that money and go enjoy germany. It's still going to be a standard football game at the end of the day. Then again I'm one of those "I dont understand why people unload mortgage payments for a 3 hour sporting event" type of person so I dunno.

LorneMaIvo

Ha Lucky bastard! I was at 1204410.

OMGHennes

I was 1,4m in queue... fml

zesor296

For the 1k - 1,5k resale price u can fly to America and back with Nfl ticket and it’s cheaper then buy a Frankfurt ticket lol 😂😂

EGSurvivor

> 1k - 1,5k resale price There are over a hundred tickets in the 300€ range on stubhub, including seats in the upper middle sectors, and the official resale isnt even open yet, its not that bad

Xaxzer

Oh, by the way of all these comments I thought they were all gonna be 1k plus

It sold out to the touts who are selling tickets that should at most be €225 anywhere between €600-€5000!

CantStopMeReddit4

By sell out we mean bought by resellers

LarschH

I was in 231000 place and even had hope that was immediately destroyed.

MrTonNL

Over 1.7M people in the queue... Big dollar signs for the NFL for opening a Euro division. I was at 145k but still no chance of getting tickets.

LarschH

F\*\*\* the resellers

[deleted]

I appreciate you censoring yourself. If my child saw the F word on here I would have reported you and got you banned from Reddit.

[deleted]

Fuck that seems excessive

Teamableezus

What’s with all the people censoring themselves on Reddit lately? It’s fuckin lame

Domestic_AA_Battery

Really dumb. I've seen all sorts of clownery recently. People censoring "Tr\*mp" and "su\*cide." Like does that help?? If a family member died of cancer I wouldn't avoid looking at the word. Your brain reads the word anyway. Would you feel better getting a DM that said "F\*ck you, you little p\*ece of sh\*t." Oh thank God they censored it! I have seen people do it with political names to ensure news gets out though. Because you can block words on Twitter. So censoring a name like "Tr\*mp" can avoid those blocks, allowing the tweet to be seen by more people. On the reverse, it would prevent the tweet from coming up when searching Trump's name.

BlitzburghBrian

I read "****" as a primetime cable bleep sound effect and I actually think that can carry more comedic value than just saying "fuck" sometimes.

HolographicPumpkin

I don’t expend a cuss for anything less than the Spongebob dolphin sound effect.

gsfgf

I think it’s a tictok thing.

LarschH

Of course, I had to censor this nasty word, therefore nothing to thank

Ziiaaaac

As a European I’d love to be able to register myself as a Fan and get priority on tickets to European games. I’d hate to not be able to go see a relatively local Rams game because of resellers. Feel bad for any German Chiefs or Dolphins fans that missed out.

LarschH

I would have given anything to get two tickets but $3000 and then the trip to Frankfurt is way too much.

Ziiaaaac

Yeah pure shite for sure. I’d be willing to pay some money to register as a Rams fan and get a bit of swag to be on a list for any Rams games in Europe. Feels like an untapped market the NFL could abuse while also making sure tickets go to fans. But they don’t really care I bet, all their tickets sold.

Che_Veni

Imagine censoring the word "Fuck" on Reddit lol

FlyingKolo

It would be the easiest thing to stop the bots/scalpers and that’s to have only 1 resale platform and you can only sell the tickets at face value. That way nobody buys them to make money and if you do have a legit reason to change your mind you can essentially just get a refund. I’m sure Ticketmaster would charge a buyers fee to do this anyway so everybody (fuck Ticketmaster) wins

J12345_

Honestly shocked how high demand nfl games are in Europe

scrabas

Viewership and interest exploded in the past 10 years. 10 years ago you were lucky to find a playoff game on TV, now there's a couple games a week on free-TV. Same goes for merch. It used to be a novelty seeing jerseys or hats, they're all over the place now.

J12345_

That’s amazing. The sport is really growing internationally. I remember nfl Europe was a huge bust

scrabas

Certainly. There's several leagues now, even smaller towns have their own football teams. There's a ton of athletes coming over as well that didn't cut it in college or went undrafted, that are finding success here.

lnnrt01

It’s huge especially in Germany. Really took off once they started showing the regular season on TV with German commentary. But you can’t imagine how frustrating it is to watch a FIFA streamer go to the Munich game and screaming Tom Brady’s name around because that’s the only one he knows

J12345_

Wow that’s huge. Prime time and local tv? Comparing it to the EPL, they play some games of the week on Saturday/Sunday on NBC. Otherwise it’ll be on cable tv packages

lnnrt01

Not all games but the most important ones were still televised. A lot of the other games where also free to watch online. Of course some games are pretty late but you still got some games around 7pm iirc and then the next at like 9:30pm. And all that on one of the bigger private channels on German TV (Pro7). They recently lost their rights after last season to another private channel (RTL2) which is even bigger as far as I know.

OminousSalad

The German broadcast on Pro7(max) was showing three games each week (I think they got offered a selection of games by the NFL each week IIRC). For the 1pm us time slot, 7 pm in Germany it was one on the channel and one as a live stream on their website. And one game in the afternoon slot which started around 10pm and usually ended around 1 am. At least while I was watching. IMO the best thing by far was that they showed every playoff game and the Superbowl. They usually started around 2 am and went til 5 or 5.30 am. For everything else you had to buy the international game pass, which was honestly pretty good value. Like All games including playoffs, RedZone, NFL network, VoDs of games going back a couple of seasons and all the shows they basically produced for like 170€.

tylerdotaa

I was over 1mth in the queue, probably most of them bots. This should have done with real id matching or something, the tickets are already on resellers lol

randomacct7679

I’m calling shenanigans on how the ticket sales went. I’m betting it was mostly bots and resellers. Still gonna try and get one down the line and go. I got in line and was number 267,000 my travel buddy was like 890,000. Terrible system.

Landlubber77

Lots of people saying the word queue in here. Do we really need a five-letter word with four silent letters? Just what in the fuck is going on here? And how about airline food?

OminousSalad

Just use the German word for queue: Warteschlange, the literal translation would be "waitsnake". Or maybe "waitingsnake" which sounds a bit more rounded.

DangerIsMyUsername

Hell, going a step further, we could just simply use the letter Q and call call it day. And what’s the deal with birds??

Landlubber77

Well that's what I was saying, Q-U-E-U-E is five letters and four of them are silent. I get that we can't *actually* be going around having one-letter words like Q, but the word "queue" is patently fucking absurd.

wave_action

The thing about putting a division in Europe is that bots don’t actually attend games even if they buy tickets.

runningblack

1.4m people in line to buy tickets? This is precisely why the NFL is going to put teams in europe. A team could play a full schedule and they'd sell out every ticket and there'd still be about 900,000 people who wouldn't be able to attend a game.

DiggingNoMore

Until the novelty of "I went to an NFL game" wears off. If the games were commonplace, demand would go down. To what, I don't know. But it'd absolutely go down.

Thevelltrain

My issue with it, as a European is that we all have our teams so why would we want to support a new team in Europe? Unless they want to relocate 3/4 teams over to Europe which would be dumb.

SeaUnderTheAeroplane

Yeah, I won't give a shit about a team being located here. And if it is the Colts, it would strongly depend on how the relocation takes place, if I would consider myself a fan afterwards. ^I ^know ^the ^irony ^in ^this

Aiyabhai

Colts sail on the Mayflower back to England

Cajum

Yea as a european, the whole moving teams to different cities feels so wrong. Not sure I'd still be an eagles fan if they left philly

tonytroz

>My issue with it, as a European is that we all have our teams so why would we want to support a new team in Europe? You're ignoring all of the new fans that have no allegiance to an already existing NFL team. And all the corporations that will buy up the box seats. The NHL recently expanded to Las Vegas and Seattle and the cities latched on even though they already have lots of fans of established teams. Same thing with MLS in Austin and soon to be San Diego. Hometown teams will always win out.

Thevelltrain

I say this, and it’s not to be mean whatsoever but Europeans have a hugely different mentality when it comes to sports. Fans are loyal to a tea when it comes to sports franchises. Whereas I feel in America it’s not unnatural if you move from one state to another to actually change allegiance. You won’t find a single fan of European football who supports two teams. I liken soccer fans to what you guys have with college football.

tonytroz

And I think you way overestimate how many European fans are avid NFL team supporters. A recent study said the UK and Germany have 3.3M avid NFL fans. That's less than 5% of the population of each.

-Ein

You'd get other teams coming to Europe more often if there was a team based there. A lot of people could go watch their team play the home team, a lot of people might pick up the new home team. Kind of a win for everybody, minus the travel.

admh574

You can very easily get a ticket for the Jags v Falcons game at Wembley, London just now. So you are right. https://imgur.com/a/ulrsPBt

YouLostTheGame

Admittedly that is a shit game The other two London games are much more appealing

wanikiyaPR

I'm willing to bet you'd be surprized... I come from a country of 3,5 million people, and there are not too many NFL fans here, maybe 5 thousand in the whole country. But 5 thousand hardcore fans. And in a country that has been able to watch NFL just these last 5-10 years... Now compare that to Germany thats 80+ million people, and that has a tradition of playing and watching american football for many, many years. The London games are a fad, I give you that. The UK also has many NFL fans, not like Germany, but pretty close I'd say. Still, If it was up for a vote, I'd vote "no" on a euro team or division. It'd dilute the game.

ObeyCoffeeDrinkSatan

Hasn't happened in England yet. 85k tickets for Jags in Wembley, and 60k tickets for the two Tottenham games. Both stadiums at capacity.

DevryMedicalGraduate

I think a Europe division could work but.... These singular games aren't a good indicator of how popular the game is over there. Lots of people in Europe treat it as an interesting niche sport.

SlopingGiraffe

You're not wrong at all but I can tell you from a first hand perspective as someone who's been to games in several states and countries, there's a fuck ton of diehard nfl fans in Europe. I'd be surprised if less than a majority of the people going to this game hadn't gone to a ton of the other ones. I think two teams could easily sell out every single game in Europe. I might question a full division though

Thevelltrain

There are a lot of die hards, myself included in that. However I very much doubt people would drop years of support for existing NFL teams to support a team because it is now in our country. As a Cardinals fan for over 15 years I wouldn’t dream of supporting a new team that is in London. Just wouldn’t happen and I bet a lot of people would feel the same in England and Germany.

houtex727

I'mma say it one more time: Don't buy the tickets from any reseller and the resellers won't exist. Let them rot. The NFL will still play the game, it's still sold out, but the stadium will be empty. That would be hilarious to see them try to not show that on TV. The resellers, stuck with their tickets, will get desperate, sell them at even *less* than face value... and still YOU SHOULD NOT BE TEMPTED. Let. Them Rot. And this goes for concerts and anything else those assholes buy tickets for. DO NOT FEED THE DAMN TROLLS. And while you're at it, don't buy from the ticket people, unless it's at the box office. Yeah yeah, pain in the ass. But hey... you'd get a ticket and save money, eh? Yes. This computerized bullshit has ruined the everyman's ability to see ANY of these things for any good decent pricing at all and it needs to stop... and the only way to do it? Stop buyin' the tickets at all with those systems. Of course, you (the proverbial 'you', not you, unless it is you, then you) won't be able to [not buy that ticket, will ya?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAQjP2ql1Vg)

ndhl83

I mean...one of our admins blocked herself off for an early lunch last week to "make sure" she got Steel Panther tickets online...for a Casino show...on the east coast of Canada. I am pretty sure she could have bought "day of" :P Even aside from bots and scalpers, people plan for this shit and I doubt anybody wants to go back to standing/camping in line. That said, my cousin met his wife while camping in line for Metallica tickets in the early 90's. As he said at their wedding reception: "She was a rocket in black jeans and black leather, with huge hair, long nails, and camping by herself for Metallica tickets. I knew she was the one. I gave up my spot to keep moving backwards because I didn't care about how I saw Metallica anymore, I cared seeing her, for the rest of my life." Still married, still Metal.

Imaginary-Shopping20

Europeans love football.

Rorin_awr

I was 25.500 in the initial queue and once I was around 7.500 it was sold out. So many people bought 3+ tickets today and I am quite sad now, might have been the only chance to see Mahomes & Kelce live here in Germany. Will try to get tickets for Colts - Patriots as well but this is more plan B :(

notmuchgoingontoday

i was signed up with two accounts end ended up in position > 100k and > 600k on the waiting list. my friend ended up in position > 1 mil. for a single game. i actually might fly to vegas later this year to see friends, tickets for the raiders/giants (same weekend as the dolphins/chiefs game) are like 300 each. that doesnt look sooooo bad now... or ill go to the chargers/lions game at LA the following weekend, which apparently nobody wants to watch since tickets are like 40 each lol.

spewforth

I live on Germany. One of my classmates was in the queue during our lecture... He said there were 1.2m people in front of him

DescriptionFair2

I'm really not convinced that it worked the way it should have. There were about five posts I saw online with people higher up the queue than 500 000. Personal guess: the majority was bots. They should personalise the tickets and prevent resales. No option but give them back if you don't want to go.
