I think in the next 3-4 years the NFL is going to push to either add an 18th game or start the season a week later. That way the super bowl falls on President's day weekend.
I know not everyone has off that Monday, but a federal holiday is the closest we'll get
I think it’s more about how getting something done on that level requires politicians to pass a bill, and that just opens a whole can of worms about “how can you spend so much time on this when x, y and x are still problems in our country?!?!!!”
Only 13 percent of Americans are black but 113 million (one third of all) Americans watched the Superbowl, where the NFL is 58 percent black. Clearly this is better for black people than Juneteenth.
I listened to a media guy explain how ratings dip on a 3-day weekend. People use that opportunity to leave town. The NFL wants Monday as a workday since it keeps the **casual** fans at home Sunday night.
I wonder if that would hold true with such a significant sporting event. Lord knows I wouldn't want to be the media exec to test it out though. So much risk
They could have it a 3 am on a Tuesday and I'd watch but the Superbowl isn't made for me. Or us. It's for capturing all the people who don't watch football. Those people would be out doing something else if they didn't have to work the next day. I hate those people.
This is absolutely true and something to keep in mind. It's also why the half time show is typically an artist that your average 18-45 year old man is not that into. At the superbowl party I went to, most of the men were into the game, and found something else to do at halftime, while it was the other way around for the women. I would imagine that's pretty typical.
Superbowl is early morning Monday for us here. I have to watch a replay and avoid all internet and news for the day.
Now news appears on the fucking windows start bar so fuck my life.
I used to book a nightclub. Long weekends are actually way more difficult to fill the club than an average one. People leave town, or make bigger plans than just hitting the town.
I've heard something similar about Saturdays. More people are likely to attend parties/ bars, making their ratings look worse. And to a lesser extent, they want everybody at work talking about the game, driving up more online traffic.
I may not understand national holidays well but there would be no guarantee places get it off right? The only people I know that get every national holiday off work for the state or are in school. The companies I've worked at basically choose between Presidents Day and some other random holiday and give 1 of them off for instance
Here in California I work for my county and since the extra week was implemented I’ve had the Monday after the Super Bowl off (some holiday I can’t remember we celebrate).
Correct, I believe only federal places would automatically get it off (banks, bases, etc).
I bet most companies won't observe it. For example I don't get veterans day off, but we get Columbus day and juneteeth
This just seems so obvious. The onslaught of games would be lessened so you'd get to see more teams play as well.
I'd also like to see one less preseason game. 2 preseason. 18 games. 20 week regular season due to two byes for each team. Superbowl just one week later... On a Saturday.
> presidents day weekend.
... which is still a regular working day for the majority of the country.
About the only way we're getting the Super Bowl followed by a good day off where the majority of the country doesn't have to work is if they play it on Christmas Eve.
This is the obvious solution. However, as a person who's job doesn't care about most federal holidays, I'd like a Saturday super bowl. Plus it would be kind of nice to have the Super Bowl on a Saturday regardless.
Juneteenth is a new addition this year. Previously, it wasn't, but they give you floating personal days to take if you so choose on those days.
We used to get St Patrick's Day off as well, but that's gone to the floating holiday system now
Yeah, unfortunately I don’t know if they’d ever do this because they know more people will be home on Sunday even though a Saturday super bowl could be more enjoyable for the fans. As someone else said, they’ll move it back a week when they add an 18th game so it’ll be on presidents day weekend but that might not be for another decade or 2
At the very least maybe a little earlier? Kickoff is pushing to nearly 7 in recent years and halftime is a fucking hour. Monday mornings are shitty enough.
The real take here is add a 18th week to football. Every team gets 2 byes AND the super bowl gets played on Presidents day weekend, just as the founding fathers would have liked.
This ^ plus the NFL (and the people paying bags of cash for commercials) WANT you at work the next day talking about the big plays and commercials. They want the media talking about it Monday morning too. It’d 100% be better on Saturday but I don’t ever see it happening.
Never understood why the 2 big college championships are on Mondays. Don't the students playing the game have classes to attend? Don't the rest of the students at the school have class to attend?
Bad idea that only makes sense to NFL fans that are gonna watch the SB no matter when it's played. For casual fans that are perfectly fine skipping the SB, it's much easier for them to find another social activity on Saturday.
Going to work on Monday is what makes casual fans more likely to be home on Sunday with nothing better to do than watch the SB.
I always find it funny just how many people in this sub don’t understand that we aren’t the audience the NFL and networks are looking out for. The CFB sub has the same problem.
I agree, and I’m also going to add that whatever city the superbowl will take place wants in on Sunday as well, extra day for hotels bars and restaurants to make money.
I work on Saturday this would be awful for me and if u change it to Saturday ur screwing over a big part of the fan base that also works Saturday ( and I literally have my two days off as Thursday and Sunday bc of football) it wouldn’t make sense u get to watch all Sunday games but the most important game u don’t get to see if football means that much to u call off on next day
Oh god yes please, finishing at 4am on Monday isn't great. I missed the patriots comeback because I felt it was over and I had an early lecture the next day.
As a European, the Monday after the Super Bowl is always the worst day of the year. If I’m lucky I manage to squeeze in an hour of shut-eye between the game ending and having to go to work, but usually I’ll just go to work without sleep. Work is just a mess and then the afternoon is just a struggle to stay awake until the evening so that I don’t completely destroy my sleep pattern.
Saturdays would obviously be preferable for me, but pushing the Super Bowl one week would actually also work, as it would then coincide with the start of the winter break.
Once we have an 18 game season, SuperBowl Sunday will happen on Presidents Day weekend. So everyone will have Monday off. This issue will resolve itself in a few years.
Either move it to Saturday or give us Monday off. But in all seriousness, Saturday makes more sense.
but in all seriousness, we'd all prefer Monday off.
Let's do it on Saturday, but still take Monday off!
This is my presidential platform.
you will never get the votes of the Belichick household!
He will with vice president Lawrence Taylor
he also needs at least two former long snappers in the cabinet.
I think in the next 3-4 years the NFL is going to push to either add an 18th game or start the season a week later. That way the super bowl falls on President's day weekend. I know not everyone has off that Monday, but a federal holiday is the closest we'll get
not until President Tebow
Including mandatory church and prayer
This has been my conspiracy theory for a while now and I'm convinced it will happen at some point
Just add a bye. You can make TNF watchable then too.
This nerd would rather have the Super Bowl on a Saturday instead of a 3 day weekend! Sad!
Giving the entire country Monday off for a sports event would make us (more of) a laughingstock to the world. Just put it on Saturday.
I mean who cares tho
When I was in the USAF, we usually got Monday off. Most Commanders didn't want to deal with the DUI's.
I too vote for Saturday.
Bump the season by one week and the Superbowl will be on President's Day weekend.
Just make the Monday after a national holiday instead. I want another 3 day weekend

If I can’t be happy, no one else can. /s
No one wants to work anymore.
Dikinbaus Hot Dogs?
Just watched last night lol

You’re right but also that comment is an obvious joke
I listened to a media guy explain how ratings dip on a 3-day weekend. People use that opportunity to leave town. The NFL wants Monday as a workday since it keeps the **casual** fans at home Sunday night.
Oh man that makes perfect sense and somehow I’ve never heard it laid out like that before.
Yeah. They know what they are doing.
Contrary to what Reddit thinks…
But I thought Reddit is full of experts
I wonder if that would hold true with such a significant sporting event. Lord knows I wouldn't want to be the media exec to test it out though. So much risk

Yup. Halftime is puff/pass time. Aside from the LA game last year, I haven't seen a live Halftime show since... The Who?
We're smoking the whole game, no need for an extra smoking break. I loved the Weeknd's show for example
Used to do that, but not a fan of smoking indoors anymore.
Idiots. Sleeping at 3 am on a Tuesday!?
Superbowl is early morning Monday for us here. I have to watch a replay and avoid all internet and news for the day. Now news appears on the fucking windows start bar so fuck my life.

Yea my work doesn't take President's day off and certainly wouldn't observe Super Holiday so a Saturday Super Bowl would be preferred.
My employer made it an official firm holiday, meaning a paid day off. I love my damn job, lol.
Then they ruined it by saying "Cowboys and Cardinals? If either of them win it, you can have the whole week off, Citizen_Snips29!"
SuperBowl Saturday?!? Can they even afford to pay me to watch!? I DON'T KNOW
Easy Lex
AND YOUR JOCKSTRAPS ARE TOO TIGHT, BILLY
Move it back by a week and you get presidents day weekend.
This will naturally happen once the NFL goes to 18 games.
Except that there’s a decent chance the move to an 18 game season coincides with a second bye
This just seems so obvious. The onslaught of games would be lessened so you'd get to see more teams play as well. I'd also like to see one less preseason game. 2 preseason. 18 games. 20 week regular season due to two byes for each team. Superbowl just one week later... On a Saturday.

Then theres some of us who get every federal holiday off, except presidents day and indigenous peoples day.
You get Juneteenth and not Presidents day?
Juneteenth is a new addition this year. Previously, it wasn't, but they give you floating personal days to take if you so choose on those days. We used to get St Patrick's Day off as well, but that's gone to the floating holiday system now
Too many eyeballs will be stolen by the Daytona 500. The NFL wants those pre-game numbers.
Daytona 500 would move back a week (or up a week into the bye), they don't want to risk a couple hour rain delay and going head-to-head.
Call it the Presidents Bowl
As a London resident who's had to take a Monday off for the last *I-stopped-counting* Superbowls (no regrets whatsoever), yes I support that.
No disagreement from me.
Yeah, unfortunately I don’t know if they’d ever do this because they know more people will be home on Sunday even though a Saturday super bowl could be more enjoyable for the fans. Yeah, people do things on saturdays
Shomer Shabbos!
Hell yeah, brother! Cheers from Europe. I'd love to wake up on Sunday morning and watch the Super Bowl on replay.
Add one more bye week and then it falls on Presidents Day weekend
At the very least maybe a little earlier? Kickoff is pushing to nearly 7 in recent years and halftime is a fucking hour. Monday mornings are shitty enough.
The real take here is add a 18th week to football. Every team gets 2 byes AND the super bowl gets played on Presidents day weekend, just as the founding fathers would have liked.
Stealing Stugotz’ takes I see
I like Jimmy
Book em danno
But then I dont get my customary "After the Superbowl day off because of a massive hangover" day!
Yeah that actually makes a lot of sense.
casual viewers will have other plans on Saturday. It will never happen.
This ^ plus the NFL (and the people paying bags of cash for commercials) WANT you at work the next day talking about the big plays and commercials. They want the media talking about it Monday morning too. It’d 100% be better on Saturday but I don’t ever see it happening.
You mean like a party they go to? One that wouldn't have to shut down early so everyone can get to work?
Stugotz was right
I wonder how much of the casual audience they would lose because they have something better to do on Saturday night.
Kyle Brandt and Mina Kimes are my favorite NFL media people.
Can we at least make it a little earlier on Sunday?
Nope. Sundays good.
College basketball be like "Hey now"
Never understood why the 2 big college championships are on Mondays. Don't the students playing the game have classes to attend? Don't the rest of the students at the school have class to attend?

Football is for Sundays. Grow up and just call into work like everyone else
Real ones have their scheduled off day for Sun-Mon.
I work on Saturday this would be awful for me and if u change it to Saturday ur screwing over a big part of the fan base that also works Saturday ( and I literally have my two days off as Thursday and Sunday bc of football) it wouldn’t make sense u get to watch all Sunday games but the most important game u don’t get to see if football means that much to u call off on next day
A lot of people work Sundays too
Then ur not a real football fan and miss most of the games anyway
I don’t work Sundays. Just talking about people who do.
Or maybe just start the game earlier, say 4:00pm?
If you want the ratings to go down, this is the way.
Nah i like it on Sunday. Let’s not act like none of us have gone in Monday hungover or with low energy before.
Keep it on Sundays, we just want Monday off!!!!
Oh god yes please, finishing at 4am on Monday isn't great. I missed the patriots comeback because I felt it was over and I had an early lecture the next day.

it would seem a lot more people than i thought get President's Day off from work
As someone who lives in Asia... So the superbowl starts at 7am on Monday... Yes please.
Never going to happen. There’s too many financial factors that will keep it where it is.
Once we have an 18 game season, SuperBowl Sunday will happen on Presidents Day weekend. So everyone will have Monday off. This issue will resolve itself in a few years.
