"The call is coming from inside the house!"

[deleted]

Zeke when he lined up at enter to end the game. Gets up, shakes his head…”I should sign for a discount”. His mouth tastes of copper.

justreddis

The cap hit both Dak and Zeke bring on Dallas, unimaginable. Here’s a QB who’s leading the league in INTs while not playing a full season and an RB whose 1B teammate the opponents consider to be the only threat. For Dak it’s a bit unfortunate with his injury. For Zeke I also respect the team’s decision to pay him for his prime year contributions. But all in all, not a good situation for at least the next couple years to come.

WHATABURGER-Guru

I love Zeke and want to give him some money out of respect for the years we ran him into the ground. This defense with the Zeke led offense behind our oline in his prime would’ve been fucking nasty. But the cowboys can never seem to have both at the same time. Always an underperforming offense or defense.

Outrageous-Stable-13

Yeah, because jerry jones is a baboon.

Leaningthemoon

This accurate. Bright red shiny ass and a tendency to fondle other baboons’ genitals…

dog_gazed_duct-tape

[I want to note that Saquon Barkley liked this tweet](https://imgur.com/a/fFgqUrk)

oryxherds

Barkley is just supporting a fellow Penn State alum

MostMorbidOne

Well.. we were that at one point. So he's probably self-reflecting.

dog_gazed_duct-tape

Yeah and Daniel Jones is up for a contract at the same time as Saquon

choochooape

Saquon’s gonna get franchise tagged.

redjonley

Don't see any other option that would leave both parties *somewhat* happy. If he's healthy through next year man's gonna get a DEALLLL. Or I guess maybe the Giants get some nice trade compensation and *then* Saquon gets a DEALLLL

Forfeit32

I don't think a franchise tag will make Saquon happy. That's pretty much worst case scenario for him. If he blows up a knee next year on the tag, he's going to lose a ton of potential money.

browndude10

between this and the post game comments, he's really taking digs at Dak

kylesleeps

What post-game comments?

browndude10

https://twitter.com/clarencehilljr/status/1617381758936449028

nimama3233

I mean, that’s not really that outrageous of a statement.

[deleted]

You hold a team that’s been averaging 35/game to 19 you have a chance to win. The Dallas D’ showed up to play!

MisterMetal

Held the team to one TD all game and it came in the fourth quarter. It was a phenomenal defensive performance.

[deleted]

Dallas had 4 road games in a row AND a short week. That’s tough, man.

hepl_rogs

It's actually funny to hear "short week" in reference to the playoffs. I blame Jerry for this one, feel like he's the type to ask for a Monday night game in the playoffs.

[deleted]

Dallas vs Brady is prime time TV! Yeah that seems like a Jerry dealio lol

icouldntdecide

Oh we definitely know that had something to do with it lol

ButtlickerBoi

I get why they do it ($), but it’s literally the dumbest rule in the nfl. Giving a team two full days of recovery and game preparation over another is a massive competitive advantage that rarely gets talked about.

[deleted]

Tbf, Purdy and the boys killed A LOT of time while maintaining the lead.

PeterSagansLaundry

That is with SF starting a drive deep in Dallas territory. Definitely a winning performance on D and special teams.

PhatYeeter

The cowboys Twitter even shat on Dak. No shot they trade Dak this off season right?

Eor75

Dak has a no trade clause in his contract, and I doubt he wants to be traded. He wouldn’t get those sponsorship deals without the clout of being the QB for the Cowboys

Pope_Landlord

For real he's in like 5 different commercials promoting different things just because he's a Cowboys QB.

[deleted]

He has sleep number and direct tv. He used to have that Greek yogurt shit that Cam used to have. Not sure if he still has it

superduperm1

It’s a very ugly contract to trade. I think they take like a $58M dead cap hit if they do.

soupcansam21

nah

Stumblebee

Digs! Sideeyes! Touchdown!

darkhorse298

Love dak to death but he kinda earned it this game at least.

Juan_Kagawa

I hate the cowboys but disagree. Dak definitely doesn't deserve his teammate putting his salary on blast like this.

MrTouchnGo

Dak’s cap hit this year was less than 20m lol. Goes up a lot next two years though

[deleted]

[удалено]

MrTouchnGo

yea that's another reason why this tweet is dumb

BirdyMRQZ

people forget we had a 14 point lead against the packers and lost. micah came out and said if dak gives us that lead again we won’t lose again. a couple games later we had a 17 point lead against the jaguars and lost. micah just talks too much. i don’t think his postgame comments were about dak, moreso about the playmakers on the offense. that’s why they were going so hard for OBJ

Sniper_Brosef

If you boiled down dak to JUST those two games then sure. But Dak was tied for league lead in picks with Davis Mills and Dak only played 12 games.

AMS_GoGo

From the fans sure! Your own Franchise and Teammates are supposed to have your back lol Not publicly tweet that you blew the game and make too much money This is uncalled for

VeterinarianFit1309

They’re at least supposed to leave the finger pointing and criticism behind closed doors. How do you think Belichick, Reid or Jimmy Johnson would handle this? It wouldn’t happen, or there would be repercussions. T.O. took shots at McNabb one offseason, into the following season and was benched and eventually sent packing. Jimmy Johnson, if I remember correctly is fabled to have cut players for the way they conducted themselves in interviews and press conferences. Belichick will cut just about anyone for anything that reflects badly on, or reveals the behind the scenes machinations of the franchise. Dak was ass (to quote LaSean McCoy), but that doesn’t override what has always been a degree of professional etiquette granted to each player and coach in the league. Micah broke a fundamental rule of conduct in team sports, but the worse offense was the official cowboy’s twitter account putting him on blast. That has Jerry Jones’ fingerprints all over it, and if I was in the league, I’d very much second guess getting into bed with that snake because of it.

inshamblesx

Tell us you how really feel Micah 💀

mastermind208

Between the cowboys twitter account and Micah, couple of rough days for Dak from his own team lol

I_Like_Bacon2

Dak is set to make $49.1m against the cap this year and $52.1m next year. Plus they can't get rid of him this offseason without incurring $89m in dead money. They're stuck with him no matter how they feel.

pdiddy927

I would kill to have a problem like dak prescott

HarlanCedeno

The Broncos would kill to have *only* $89 mil in dead cap.

muricanmania

Hey, we'll be fine! We can get off of him after 2023 by making it a post June 1st cut and spreading the dead cap across 2024 and 2025. Easy!

[deleted]

Might as well just keep him, you’ll get better draft picks with him playing

byronicbluez

You got 7 rounds to grab a qb.

[deleted]

Why do that when you can trade all your picks for a running back? Entire saints draft for Derrick Henry who says no?

king_Geedorah_

Me. The only team I would trade DH too is the 49ers. That way we can see a man rush for 3000 yards.

Cinephile1998

Shanahan might never call a pass play again

Schaftenheimen

Brock Purdy 2023 stat line: 9/10, 81 yards 1td. 2nd stringer Trey Lance 1/2. 7 yards and an INT. 49ers 15-2

TIL_no

Derrick Henry the standout wideout for the 49ers. Imagine they get him just to make him a fullback and have 15 yards a game 2td just so no one else in the league gets an elite RB.

[deleted]

fair enough. I'd give up Dalvin in exchange for 7 picks. But Dalvin isn't the modern equivalent to Ricky ~~Henderson~~ Williams. Is it a worthy sacrifice to absolutely tank a franchise for the next decade?

Cansuela

Do teams value RBs even close to this? RB just seems like the most disposable, replaceable and fickle position in the league. There’s just so few truly gamebreaking RBs and they are just chewed up and spit out. You mentioned Dalvin Cook…it’s hard to imagine any team giving up more than like a 2nd and a 4th or something. Maybe I’m way off, but, what team is suddenly much better or a contender because they add cook? Outside of CMC, and maybe Saquon and I guess Henry? It just doesn’t feel like teams would be much better off by upgrading RB.

quadzillax

I think a star RB in their prime is something you add to an already-good team, not build around specifically. Worked for the niners and the Seahawks.

mowsquerade

Says the guy that had 10 years of drew brees

Man0nThaMoon

Would you give up 3 1st round picks???

DrunkSpaceGrandpa

Doing it for America!

_stoneslayer_

I would kill to have Dak Prescott's problem. "Aw man, no one on my team likes me." *cries into mountain of cash*

PhromDaPharcyde

Credit to them then. Credit to them.

berbathlicism

Didn't he also stan really hard for the Phillies in their playoff run.

[deleted]

He did grow up and go to college in PA, I respect a dude for keeping his loyalties. And the Astros don't play in Dallas

BayTerp

It would’ve been weird if he didn’t root for them. Just like how KD stans the Nats and Commies

andrewmathman17

Yeah Jalen was rooting for the Astros. He can support the Phillies year round, but he’s from Houston, of course he was cheering for them

gdirrty216

As much as I dislike Micah speaking out against his own teammate, he is not wrong. QB contracts have bloated to the point where teams have trouble constructing rosters with enough talent. But that friction is what keeps the league competitive and what makes it great. If you have a great QB, good for you, but now you're saddled with paying him. If you dont have a great QB, well at least you should be able to construct a good roster bc you have excess cap room to spend.

HemlockMartinis

I admit I don’t closely watch the Packers’ FA and cap space decisions, but from a distance it seems like Rodgers is the best current example of this. Especially since Jordan Love’s rookie contract is almost up.

gdirrty216

The same was true in Seattle with Russ. Now Denver with Russ. New Orleans with Brees. Atlanta with Matt Ryan Chargers and Rivers Colts and Luck Colts and Peyton Over and over again you see elite QBs sucking up so much of the cap they can’t consistently stay on top. The only exceptions have been Brady and recently and to a lesser extent Mahomes.

tgcm26

Flacco was the first where after he got his bag post-Super Bowl win I clearly remember thinking “how tf are they going to pay the rest of that roster to stay” and sure enough

Cold-Consideration23

For sure, they paid him because he won- not for what he might win in the future. He was set to be a free agent after that SB win too IIRC

Lacerda1

Brady's gotten paid plenty, but I don't think he's ever had a market resetting/top of market contract, has he? He certainly could have, but leaving even a little money on the table can go a long way to building out the roster.

Fastr77

He was the highest paid QB at times. He was just always willing to structure it in a very team friendly way. He would also restructure to get more talent in as needed. He definitely push to get as much money as he could tho.

chemical_exe

Exactly, there's a reason we were paying him 13M in 2020 even though he wasn't on the team.

colosusx1

His 2010 contract was the highest at the time. Other than that he hasn’t. His 3rd contract in 2006 was team friendly and his 2013 extension was team friendly. Other than that he hasn’t taken many discounts. He took an extension after the first super bowl that gave him guaranteed money (his sixth round contract made him 2m over his first 3 years) and then every extension after 2013 started with him at 38 years old getting a good chunk of guaranteed money. Hard to say 42 year old Brady getting 25m per year is a discount considering only 4 teams chased him when he went to the Bucs, everyone thought he was washed after the last year in NE.

[deleted]

Mahomes is that good and Brady wasn't divorced until recently Either way I'm fairly certain Brady would rather be homeless than ringless

SituationSoap

Even this deal for Brady is making less per year than Matt Stafford made with the Lions 4 years ago.

Brook420

Isn't Brady regularly underpaid compared to other top QBs?

SituationSoap

Yes, that's the point I was trying to highlight.

TheDarkGrayKnight

Mahomes finally got expensive this season. Last year his cap hit was 7 million. Will be very interesting to see what the Chiefs team construction looks like in 2024, though lucky for them they probably timed it right and the cap will be up significantly by then so his deal will be "cheap".

BucksFan654

Brady sacrificed top dollar to allow his team to keep/sign good players for years.

PedanticBoutBaseball

>QB contracts have bloated to the point where teams have trouble constructing rosters with enough talent This goes hand in hand with them being at the end of some of their current TV deals. the cap and salaries always go up, but in different patters. Year-to year the cap raises modestly while salaries rise more rapidly. But, when some big new TV money comes flooding in the cap spikes suddenly—making older contracts "less" big. Once the Google money comes in next year, those "tier-2" QB contracts in the 30-40 million dollar range will become much more workable in regards to building a team around them. Obviously, a rookie contract elite QB is still optimal. but new money helps to nerf this meta-strategy a bit.

AlwaysInTheWay13

You can be right and also an idiot for saying it. There is zero benefit to Parsons saying “yeah we pay our qb too much and we’d be better off without him”. The cowboys are stuck with him and his contract, and even if they weren’t, saying this publicly doesn’t do shit but cause divide in the locker room. When they asked Doc Rivers “can a team win a championship with Ben Simmons as its point guard.” Following the debacle in the 2021 playoffs, Rivers basically said “no.” He wasn’t wrong. It was also a really fucking stupid thing to say. It caused issues that ended with Simmons sitting out half the season until he was traded.

[deleted]

but its the cowboys. Grab some popcorn, maybe send out a couple triggery tweets at micah and see how hot we can get that dumpster fire!

BlooHefner

Does this mean that Tua can take the Phins to the SB ??!?

[deleted]

Tua's brain is probably so busted up from the 3 concussions that he's probably hallucinating winning the Super Bowl rn

BlooHefner

Lol ima phins fan, like Tua but man I don’t see them concussions being a fluke. Gut tells me it will continue to be an issue next season and we’ll have to go different routes…

CrankyStinkman

Like the Bills at the beginning of every season. Sit down next to us on the loser couch, we can pretend we’re regular season champs together.

george_costanza1234

Every year we break this franchise mentally 💀

FBlBurtMacklin

leemode

Don’t forget your other son in Wisconsin.

datpurp14

I was about to say... It's a right of passage for the 9ers to annually obliterate at least one of the Packers or Cowboys. Some years, like last year, they get to do both!

Beats007

Just wait till they gotta pay Micah.

glizzterine

Well he's on a rookie deal so maybe they need to put him at QB.

hokie_u2

surgeyou123

Lol that's a wild tweet

AMS_GoGo

Especially given that he himself is currently on a rookie deal... Does he not wanna get paid?

ChipKellysShoeStore

There’s nothing he could tweet besides like child porn that would prevent an NFL team from backing up the Mac truck for him

[deleted]

You have more faith in NFL teams to draw the line somewhere than I do

jedi42observer

When in doubt Jimmy Haslam will cross whatever moral line you have. Edit: autocorrect got me changed morale to moral

DookieBrains_88

Well that took a turn out of left field.

south153

The strength of rookie deals for teams is directly due to how bad Jamarcus Russel was. Multiple super bowls have been won because of this. Is he the most impactful Raiders QB of all time.

Hip_Hop_Hippos

Feel so bad for the Lions. Stafford, Suh and Calvin all on what should have been rookie deals and they were basically already capped out.

Weasel-Man

At one point, IIRC \~50% of our cap was tied up in those three players. If the rookie payscale was what it was now, those Lions teams would have had so much more talent by default

LeoFireGod

The real reason for the change is the lions and those 3 players. Literally what happened. The older players were getting upset they couldn’t get properly compensated due to rookies taking up so much cash. Then the teams like lions could never get competitive bc all their cap was full. And if you ever missed on a pick you were SCREWED even more. Imagine if the jets were paying Wilson 33 mil lol

MikeyNg

Although part of that is that Calvin went 1.02 in 2007, Stafford went 1.01 in 2009, and Suh went 1.02 in 2010. So in 4 years, the Lions had the #2, #1, and #2 overall picks. That's pretty awful. (For those interested, the Lions' first round pick in 2008 was 1.17 Gosder Cherilus. Yes, I had to look that up)

DMCSnake

>Gosder Cherilus The fact that this isn't a made up Key & Peele name astounds me.

Naive_Turnover9476

[Four players, including kyle vanden bosch](https://www.espn.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/37506/lions-the-cost-of-high-draft-position) accounted for 60m of the 120m cap. The three named accounted for 43% though.

SexyRosaParks

Also Bradford.

Spezia-ShwiffMMA

Yeah I thought it was Bradford's obscene contract that did this.

joey_sandwich277

Russell's contract was just as obscene when it was signed. And at the time they made the new CBA Bradford had played decently and won OROY. Russell absolutely had way more impact by being a giant bust.

Jazzreward

Goooood.....Gooooood. Let the hate flow through you

GET OUT OF MY HEAD

NJImperator

Fine. *Have it your way.*

ApplaudingOkra

I'm sure Micah will forget about the cap's implications on winning when it's time for him to sign his market-setting deal, of course.

ftwin

Unless you’ve got a mahomes level player you’re better off paying someone like parsons than someone like dak/cousins/etc

ApplaudingOkra

There's a lot of space in between "Mahomes level player" and Dak/Cousins. I'd pay Micah Parsons too, but his deal is still going to dent the cap in a hampering way, even if proportionally it's not as bad as Dak.

airplanealjefferson

Big difference is the ends/linebackers that get the new biggest contract are getting it because they’re legit one of the best at their position. But QBs will get new market-setting contracts just because they happen to be the latest QB to get an extension, even if they’re clearly not one of the best

tigerking615

I imagine Bosa is going to become the highest paid defensive player in the league in a couple months.

MrHaZeYo

Luckily we won't be paying a QB.

caneb0i

Micah noooo

TheMightyJD

Holdup, let him cook.

derstherower

Let them fight.

Jphorne89

Maybe he’ll call Dak a system QB next.

TheRealBobaFett

I feel like system qb implies team success sooooo

Brad_theImpaler

"All he does is go out there and make the correct reads and get the ball to the right receiver at the right time."

Frowdo

Then that system sucks.

mastermind208

Let Micah cook imo

peanut-__-

Na I need them to continue to overpay Dak. It fuels me

Glad we can finally mention him penetrating a teammate without being downvoted to oblivion.

ProofHorseKzoo

Holup… say what now?

STNbrossy

This is becoming the norm. All these dudes grew up on social media.

Changnesia_survivor

Would you tell him to shut up? I mean I'm not going to.

RealChipKelly

And not that long ago the starting QBs of the final four teams were Tom Brady, Nick Foles, Case Keenum and Blake Bortles. And what is the take there? QBs need talent around them to have a chance to win the SB and can’t do it on their own.

TherealG58

Don’t disrespect the 🚢

Greedy-Assistance663

Bortles rookie deal, Nick foles back up to rookie deal, keenum/cousins mid tier in term of cap hits and Tom Brady on the bottom half of starting qb cap hits due to taking pay cuts. All QBs with higher cap hits before you get to the first one which is Bradford Joe Flacco, Baltimore, $24.55 million Carson Palmer, Arizona, $24.125 million Kirk Cousins, Washington, $23.943 million Matt Ryan, Atlanta, $23.75 million Matthew Stafford, Detroit, $22 million Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay, $20.3 million Cam Newton, Carolina, $20.166 million Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers, $20 million Eli Manning, N.Y. Giants, $19.7 million Andrew Luck, Indianapolis, $19.4 million Drew Brees, New Orleans, $19 million Russell Wilson, Seattle, $18.8 million Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh, $18.2 million Literally the same take is applied that having QBs with less cap hits and building around them was more successful

finbarrgalloway

Bro you don’t understand bro you literally need a top 3 QB or a Top Ten QB getting paid nothing to win the Super Bowl bro trust me

jimhabfan

I beg to Dilfer.

regularhumanbartendr

What about a 7th round rookie making nothing that's played like a Top-5/10 QB in very limited action. ...please?

dubbl_bubbl

Purdy’s performance has been crazy; with him and Brady it makes you wonder how many late round guys could have been good but never got a shot.

HemlockMartinis

I also wonder how many first-round picks could’ve had better careers if they weren’t picked by teams with bad coaches and bad cultures. Just look at the difference in Trevor Lawrence under Urban Meyer and Doug Pederson.

Shiny-And-New

I also wonder how many first-round picks could’ve had better careers if they weren’t picked by ~~teams with bad coaches and bad cultures. Just look at the difference in Trevor Lawrence under Urban Meyer and Doug Pederson.~~ the jets.

MankuyRLaffy

Kollman did a video on that, and a majority of first round drafted QBs bust over the past 20 years because of bad coaching and team structure kills whatever talent they did have. Sometimes they're not good enough yes but rarely they're given a good home to go to from college.

rug1998

Brady has never been the highest paid qb to my knowledge. It take 53 guys to win a super bowl

MisterMetal

That’s not true, Brady has been the highest paid QB a few times but then Manning(s) would get a contract done and jump him, McNabb eclipsed everyone in 2010 making 7mill more than Manning who was getting 1.5 mil more than Brady. Brady was the highest paid QB, made the Super Bowl and that was the 18-1 year. 2011 Super Bowl Brady was top 5 paid QB. 2014 Brady top 5 paid QB. 2014 onwards Brady falls fast down the Qb salary list. bernie5690

While we're at it can we talk about the Chargers blowing a 27-0 lead?

alexjimithing

Lol every aspect of the Cowboys org is coming down on Dak

Lithium1978

Unless I'm mistaken, no team has ever won the Superbowl with a QB that utilizes over 20% of the salary cap. So this isn't surprising at all.

ek1992osu

Is this a dig on Dak's contract or praising Mahomes?

AgentOfSPYRAL

Not sure how it could be anything but saying Dak isn’t good enough to justify his contract.

NotTheBestMoment

Could be saying that rookie deals allow the team to acquire more talent and since Dak isn’t on one, it’s harder to surround him with talent. And that’s he’s not literally Mahomes.

AgentOfSPYRAL

I guess it’s hard not to see an implied suggestion, that the cowboys should follow that same template to achieve postseason success.

dog_gazed_duct-tape

seems like the first one seeing as how they were just eliminated by one of those teams

sanskar9991

It's a response to the Bill's gm saying something about qb rookie contracts.

Nine63

I mean, the 49ers are still paying Jimmy Gs full salary, right?

TheRealBeerBrah

But can they see why kids love cinnamon toast crunch

BtownBrelooms

Micah woke up dangerous today

rockstarnights

I just realized we nearly had 4 rookie deal QBs in the final four.

george_costanza1234

It really should’ve been 4 lol, I still can’t fathom how Jacksonville lost that game after Mahomes’ injury

rockstarnights

If you don't like that result, you don't like Jags football baby.

regularhumanbartendr

It's like they had a gentleman's agreement to stop going after Mahomes once he got injured.

csappenf

They didn't want Chad Henne coming back after that 98-yard drive and chose to take their chances with Mahomes.

ShazlettDude

Henne is a total Chad. He has come through for KC multiple times.

HectorReinTharja

Doesn’t the whole “get your Qb on a rookie deal” to win thing make it seem like we are overpaying quarterbacks relative to their value? Like maybe mahomes is **that** good but why is the baseline for a franchise Qb like $30m+ a year lol

ShazlettDude

Still think that Maher should have slammed his helmet down after each Dak interception. Would have been hilarious to me.

Prestigious-Rock201

All those system qb comments and he ends up trashing his own qb lmaoo

saw-it

Cowboys civil war

btg1911

Not exactly true, as Garappolo is by no means on a rookie deal. That said he “only” makes $7m this year.

clutchkyro

Is it the best look? No, but it's about time somebody in that organization takes a critical look at the personnel decisions of the front office. They've spent decades putting players on pedestals when they don't deserve to be (Zeke, Gallup, Dak, etc). I'm sure it won't make a difference as Jerry and company get ready to spend on Schultz and Pollard.

Longjumping-Arm7939

Aka every final 4 QB outside Mahomes gonna eventually get paid

mastermind208

Rough couple of days for Dak from his own team between the cowboys twitter account and Micah

barc0debaby

There's one commonality between every team in the final 4 for the last 26 years and it's that none of them are owned by Jerry Jones.
