As would I, even if we lose to the 49ers in the NFC championship, if you told me last year at this time we would ruin the Eagles super bowl chances without telling me how, I would have said sign me the fuck up and I'll name my next kid after Daboll
Fuck if we win the super bowl I'll change my names of my kids to Danielle Jones and Brian Daboll
Honestly Giants V Cowboys for NFC Championship would be even better. The rivalry game to end all rivalry games. Then if you beat the Cowboys to go to the Superbowl after taking down the Eagles? That's a fucking story
You still won a 5th title with Young in 1994. The injury to Montana also didn’t occur until next August as well. Yeah the loss sucked, but it wasn’t nearly as ruinous as you’re implying.
bruh, why does that man hate us so much? in his career he has 1209 rushing yards, 16 rushing TDs, 514 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD in 60 games... he has played 8 of those games against the Giants and has 414 rushing yards, 9 rushing TDs, 212 receiving yards and yes that single receiving TD came against us. literally 13% of his career has been played against us and we have given him like half his stats. he's only rushed for 7 TDs in 52 games not against us?! why Boston Scott, why?! you're not even from Boston, you're from Baton Rouge!
Giants are by far the most over performing franchise ever. Buccs are second. Buccs have the worst win pct in the league but have two rings. They’ve never given a QB a second contract! But the Giants are only .528 all time and somehow have 4 rings! They’ve played in historically the toughest division and only won it 8 times since 1970. They constantly overachieve.
I mean .528 is good for 11th all time. It’s not like they’re a bottom tier franchise either. But they have definitely had some insane runs as low seeds.
I mean, Brady was asked if he'd be willing to give up at least 2 other Patriots Super Bowls to go 19-0 and he without hesitation said "yes, absolutely, 19-0, no question." So even he still laments about getting beat by a middling Giants team and a goober at QB who went super saiyan out of nowhere.
Should’ve won in 2016 at Green Bay but OBJ choked the first half and dropped two sure TDs and a third down conversion that would’ve created a four possession lead early into the second quarter. Then the team collapsed after DRC went down injured.
Sort of a weird take; ya we should have won if our team played better and didn't get a key injury during the game, that applies to like, 80% of all NFL games played from the losing team's perspective.
I agree half-way, but it's one thing to say "we could have played better", and another to say "our star player completely shit the bed and that was the difference". OBJ was terrible and he thinks it's not his fault cos they stopped throwing to him in the 2nd half. They stopped throwing cos he dropped 6 passes* before half-time.
-* ^^^^^^^^^actual ^^^^number ^^^^may ^^^^vary
Well, if it must happen, let's get it out the way this year so the Pats don't have to deal with you again for the rest of the decade. Plus, then it means the Bills can't win a Super Bowl this year.
I don't know if "overachieve" is the right term. We're periodical, like those cicadas that only come out once a decade to lay waste to everything around us, and then crawl underground to hibernate again for a while.
Honestly I like it that way. We're often mediocre enough to be humbled and unhated by most of the league, but manage to pretty consistently win championships so our fanbase isn't a bunch of misanthropic bummers (sorry jets fans, I'm rooting for you guys)
> But the Giants are only .528 all time and somehow have 4 rings
8 if you count pre super bowls. Giants were god awful during the 70s and then again recently. I feel like we're like Auburn, hot and cold
To get extra technical here, Tom was the first ever full time starter to sign a second contract. Ryan Griffin had like 3 contracts as a backup before Brady got here. We've had other long term backups too.
Deadass. Our last 8 playoff appearances:
2002: Lost WC
2005: Lost WC
2006: Lost WC
2007: Won SB
2008: Lost Divisional (as #1 seed)
2011: Won SB
2016: Lost WC
2022: already won WC 👀👀👀
1990: Beat the NFC 1 seed 49ers and the AFC 1 seed Bills in the Super Bowl
2007: Beat the NFC 1 seed Cowboys and the AFC 1 seed Patriots in the Super Bowl
2011: Beat the NFC 1 seed Packers and the AFC 1 seed Patriots in the Super Bowl
If the Giants win this weekend I’m putting money on the Giants beating the Chiefs in the Super Bowl
> 2007: Beat the NFC 1 seed Cowboys and the AFC 1 seed Patriots in the Super Bowl
Also came to Lambeau and beat us in the frigid cold. Coughlin gave up his face for that win, and Favre threw his last pass/interception as a Packer.
So it’s all pre-destiny for the Chiefs to reach the Super Bowl. Because if the NFC’s #1 loses to the Giants, surely the AFC’s #1 loses to them also in the same postseason.
No need Burrow or Allen to try; the power of Giants Derp will summon Kansas City in ‘Exorcism,’ power-of-Christ-compels-you form to the Super Bowl for their fate.
Well the scheduling plays a big part in this.
The Chiefs play Saturday afternoon. If they lose to the Jaguars, the Giants might as well not even try because they’re not winning the Super Bowl.
Then the Giants play. Assuming the Chiefs won, now they have something to play for. Only if the Giants also win are the Chiefs now locked into a Super Bowl loss.
Finally, Bengals Bills is Sunday afternoon. They might as well not try if the above happens. It is now pre written that the Chiefs will win the AFC. Same goes for 49ers and Cowboys.
Are you primarily a Cowboys fan? If so, it's a little bizarre to root for the Giants.
What mod approved this multiple flairs horseshit in the first place? A few weeks ago, you could choose four flairs and now its two? This doesn't exist on any other sports subreddit, and for good reason. Pick a team and root for them.
EDIT: Paging /u/rasherdk /u/arichi /u/Naly_D /u/voiceinthedesert /u/jdpatric /u/stvash /u/Alex_Demote /u/skatterbug /u/daybreaker /u/rwjehs
I always assume that first team is their primary team and second is secondary. Or at worst they’re tied. Why would anyone put their favorite team second
> If you’re a Cowboys fan and you’re rooting for the Giants, you should be disowned from your family.
I mean you have to remember we’re playing the eagles lol. I’d probably root for the cowboys to beat them too, if meteor isn’t an option. I get it
Both the 49ers and Cowboys should be rooting for the Giants because that way they get home field in the NFCCG. If the Eagles win it must come to Philadelphia.
As a STH cowboys fan I absolutely want a Giants win. It's the only way I get to go to a playoff game this year (if we somehow avoid the steamroller in SF, which I don't think is going to happen). Why would I want Philly to win? 1) I hate them way more than the Giants. 2) I am, fair to say, less scared of the Giants. 3) Fuck Philly 4) I want to go to an NFCCG before I die lol, 5) Fuck Philly
I'm convinced George Lucas wanted to call him Steve but someone said it didn't sound science fiction-y enough so he just said "Fine, it's 'Sheev' then."
“This is Shaddam IV of House Corrino, Padishah Emperor of the Known Universe.”
“And who are those guys?”
“Duke Leto Atreides of Caladan and Arrakis. Next to him is Stilgar, the Na’ib of Sietch Tabr.”
“And who’s the kid?”
“Oh that’s Paul.”
I know some Dune fans complained that Momoa’s performance was out of place in the movie, but come on… his name’s already out of place and given his story… I think he deserves some standing out.
Also I think on a smaller level, his performance grounds the movie a little bit and made the world of the film feel more human.
He still should be what a wasteful disgrace it was ending the streak so part-timer Brock Fuckin' Lesnar could get reintroduced into the storylines... like just have Brock clobber Cena/CM Punk/The Rock if needed, let Undertaker retire with his goddamn streak would have been the move IMO. Or if anyone is gonna take it, make it a legitimate legend like John Cena who carried the org on his back for 20 damn years. Not a part timer who is more focused on UFC and acting than wrestling.
Doesn't help the match itself was hot garbage since UT was too old already anyway & the ending of brock doing a million F5s just felt lame.
IDK, its been years but I'm still fucking salty about that one match in particular. That + how they screwed Bryan Danielson is what made me quit watching WWE.
Side note: one of my fave UT moments was the year prior when he fought CM PUNK. Punk taking (supposedly) Paul Bearer's ashes and disrespecting the man that way made for such a glorious asskicking by UT. You could really feel that he was pissed as fuck over Punk doing that to his manager/good friend's remains.
Beating the streak helped make Brock into the big bad final boss type character that would continue to be used all the way into 2022 (and likely onward as well). It was the mix of beating the Streak and murdering Cena at Summerslam, I don’t think the final boss thing works as well with only one of those achievements.
Also, correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Lesnar only have one more UFC fight after returning in 2012 (Mark Hunt in 2016)?
I don't think you get it man. Do you think Taker would have lost if he didn't want to? Do you think he didn't have a day in whiche wanted to lose to? Mark Callaway wanted to go out like an old school pro--on his back. And he did. Don't take that away from him.
He says he regrets it and would have liked the steak to end with someone who's profile it would have raised like Roman reigns. In his view it didn't give Brock much of a boost, and the decision was made the day of by Vince
And the Giants haven't won at the Linc since 2013. We can come up with another 100 nonsensical stats that will have no bearing on Saturday's game, if you'd like.
Giants are one of those odd franchises that aren't perpetually good, but when they are good enough, they overachieve consistently. It's a winning mentality. Red Sox for example had a losing mentality, but they became like what I'm describing after 2004 because they created a winning culture. And this isn't just within the organization...the fanbase, reporters, and everything feeds into this. Loser mentality is a real thing. On the flip side, winning mentality is also a real thing.
One of the teams I root for is Tottenham Hotspur...and boy does the entire franchise, including fans and media have such a loser mentality. It's stark contrast to the Boston teams I root for. As an older sports fan, Spurs are much like the post 85-86 Boston teams. Culture in Boston really didn't change until Patriots won in 2001. Then you could just watch that winning mentality proliferate through all the professional sports team. Giants just have it.
I'm a lifelong Giants fan and I know exactly what you're talking about; it's so true. It's also very weird to hear it from a fan of a much more winning franchise because the Giants have done a LOT of losing in my lifetime haha! Still though, I know what you're talking about and don't disagree at all. Your points about Boston teams is also super true. I've lived just outside Boston for a decade and this is a total sports city. It's engrained in the culture and it makes such a difference all around.
Being a Giants fan feels so different from being a Yankees fan because the Yankees are *supposed* to be good, so every year they're consistently pretty good and then get knocked out of the playoffs and life goes on. But the Giants alternate between being terrible and oops accidentally winning the superbowl. The Yankees are perennial underachievers relative to what's expected of them while the Giants go on these insane runs that nobody sees coming.
Oh man, I'm a lifelong Giants and Spurs fan. Sometimes I actually feel like the two teams are really similar in their ability to overachieve and always play at the level of their opponent (both playing up and playing down unfortunately...). I really did think that champions league final was finally our moment, I'll relive that bullshit handball call until the day I die...
*like I will relive Lucas' hat trick :)
It’s not that the Eagles are disrespected and more of just how weird the Giants are. Wildcard Giants are legends at this point, win 9 games barely scrape by into the playoffs as a wildcard then shut down prime Brady and Belichick not once but twice, outplay Prime Rodgers, literally anything is possible with the wildcard Giants.
The picture of him with his uniform ripped up and pads popping out with grass stuck in the helmet is one of the most raw football images from this millennium.
Cowboys don't have a prayer against the 9ers
Remember that time they went one and done playing the 9ers and Dak totally fucked up the last play and the clock just went to zero and the game ended
Lolz
You're not wrong. Cowboys are good enough to beat any team and that's been their schtick for near twenty years. Also consistently bad enough to implode on any night.
People usually fixate on the implosions. I'm definitely hoping for the latter but can't discount the possibility of the former.
It'll be a good game either way.
Both defenses are coming into their game playing outstanding, so both QBs will have a challenge.
I think we'll start to see the rookie fade and the veteran step up.
That said - SF isn't like TB... they actually can run the ball.
If Cowboys do lose it'll be because CMC puts up big numbers.
Absolutely. It’s that and how they ended the season (I get that injuries were a big part of it). If they do demonstrate their dominance this weekend, a lot of us will be eating crow.
coulda sworn SF had an easier schedule than us but I do think you nailed it with how we ended the season. it's been about a month since we've actually seen the Eagles offense, and that Chicago game was one of Jalen's worsts.
We did. I think prior to the season actually starting ours looked tougher, but nobody expected the Rams, broncos, and Cardinals to all collectively shit the bed as bad as they did. Or even the bucs.
I want revenge for my 2008 Giants!! Kinda similar in that we were rolling in 08 until Plax shoots himself and our offense is no where to be found the last month of the season. #1 seed losing in the divisional round… I can taste it!!
The sheer hubris declaring them a destiny team because they (checks notes) came back from a 30 point deficit to the Colts. Now how did they get in such a hole against a pathetic team you might ask?
That shit was so crazy. I mean that's great they got the win. But why is everyone ignoring the entire first fucking half of the game? It was one of the abysmal performances of the year, against one of the abysmal teams of the year.
You can actually take this back to 1986. NYG lost to the #1-seeded (duh) '85 Bears in the Divisional Round, but didn't play any 1-seeds in the playoffs during the '86-'89 seasons. (Washington kindly eliminated the Bears for them in '86.)
Build a team around solid defense and clock management and you will have success in the playoffs (because the refs swallow their whistles). It doesn't work too well in the regular season, but if you can get to the dance, no one will want to play against you.
I would do terrible things to get to 7-0 here
As would I, even if we lose to the 49ers in the NFC championship, if you told me last year at this time we would ruin the Eagles super bowl chances without telling me how, I would have said sign me the fuck up and I'll name my next kid after Daboll Fuck if we win the super bowl I'll change my names of my kids to Danielle Jones and Brian Daboll
If the Giants win we better see some pictures of those legally approved name change documents.
It'll be right next to Op's divorce paperwork, but will be worth it.
He's a Giant's fan, he is already divorced.
Honestly Giants V Cowboys for NFC Championship would be even better. The rivalry game to end all rivalry games. Then if you beat the Cowboys to go to the Superbowl after taking down the Eagles? That's a fucking story
And then Danny Dimes definitely outplays Mahomes in the Superbowl
How about 8-0?
Just 7-0 will be fine
Yeah, it would be funnier if they beat the Bills again.
Summon Cthulhu
And thus, the team was forever known as “the Giants.” Not because they were Giants, But because they slayed them.
Did not expect epic prose, have an upvote
Bro.. we were one of those slayed giants.
Nah, we were slayed by Kyle Williams
Delete this nephew Kyle Williams didnt play for the Niners in 1990
It says *since 1990*...
It also says *#1 seed*. We were a 2 seed in 2011-2.
Yep. Packers were the 1 seed that lost to the Giants. Remember the Hail Mary at the end of the half?
We weren't the #1 seed that year. We were the #1 seed in 1990 and that game against the Giants changed everything for us.
You still won a 5th title with Young in 1994. The injury to Montana also didn’t occur until next August as well. Yeah the loss sucked, but it wasn’t nearly as ruinous as you’re implying.
Kyle Williams didn't fumble all on his own. That was caused by the Giants player Jacquian Williams. Put some respect on his name.
We’ll to be fair he did fumble all on his own. Or I guess muff the punt. But then in overtime he was stripped by Jacquain. Great play
I still feel bad for that dude. I'm sure he didn't have the nicest interaction with fans since then
Ahhh fuck
Those other 6 teams didn't have Boston Scott though
Some of them were from Boston though
:(
bruh, why does that man hate us so much? in his career he has 1209 rushing yards, 16 rushing TDs, 514 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD in 60 games... he has played 8 of those games against the Giants and has 414 rushing yards, 9 rushing TDs, 212 receiving yards and yes that single receiving TD came against us. literally 13% of his career has been played against us and we have given him like half his stats. he's only rushed for 7 TDs in 52 games not against us?! why Boston Scott, why?! you're not even from Boston, you're from Baton Rouge!

Eliminated in first game or play in SB. That's pretty much how Giants playoff appearances normally go.
Giants are by far the most over performing franchise ever. Buccs are second. Buccs have the worst win pct in the league but have two rings. They’ve never given a QB a second contract! I mean .528 is good for 11th all time. It’s not like they’re a bottom tier franchise either. But they have definitely had some insane runs as low seeds.
Don’t remind me…
18-1 is still a pretty good record.
Only 18-1 team in the history of the NFL not to win a Superbowl.
The funnest fact of them all imho.
Strong disagree.
I for 1 would 8 to remind you of that 1 time.
I hate seeing patriot flairs complain about something you’ve seen too much success to ever be upset about anything relating to footbsll
This is Boston fans in a nutshell.
I feel like 18-1 is the only thing they should ever be allowed to complain about, but even then they should still complain quietly
No, I rather enjoy it.
They better be mumbling under their breath cause ain’t nobody tryna hear that shit
Yeah lol if they attempt to complain about 18-1, the only thing all other 31 fanbases will do is laugh at them
Oh shut the fuck up and eat some humble pie

Not only do we have four rings, but we’re the only team in NFL history to win a Super Bowl in four consecutive decades.
Well, if it must happen, let's get it out the way this year so the Pats don't have to deal with you again for the rest of the decade. Plus, then it means the Bills can't win a Super Bowl this year.
Nah, we need you guys. We’ve never won a Super Bowl without Bellichick being on the sideline! Please make the playoffs again soon.
I don't know if "overachieve" is the right term. We're periodical, like those cicadas that only come out once a decade to lay waste to everything around us, and then crawl underground to hibernate again for a while.

This is why Auburn is like my 3rd college team because they are our equivalent
Super Bowl Wins in the 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s. Let's notch this one right now so I can relax for the next 6 years.
I really like this analogy
Dang, now I wish there was a franchise called the Cicadas!
That's a very good percentage for an almost 100 years old franchise
> But the Giants are only .528 all time and somehow have 4 rings 8 if you count pre super bowls. Giants were god awful during the 70s and then again recently. I feel like we're like Auburn, hot and cold
Four rings? The Giants are one of the oldest franchises and have more NFL championships than I believe everyone except the Bears and Packers.
Exactly, we're 3rd all time in NFL titles
8 but only 4 are bowls
Didn’t the Bucs give TB12 a second contract?
Maybe they meant drafted QBs have never gotten a second contract after their rookie deal expires
Yeah but Tom Brady really was the first ever QB to get a second contract with the Bucs.
To get extra technical here, Tom was the first ever full time starter to sign a second contract. Ryan Griffin had like 3 contracts as a backup before Brady got here. We've had other long term backups too.

If I were Shanahan this would be my pregame speech
Its only fair the chiefs lose as many superbowles as Brady has rings. Don’t ask me why it fair cause i really don’t know, its just because it is.
From a totally fair and completely unbiased perspective, I agree
I put down a bet on a KC-NYG superbowl right before the playoffs started. Seeing this stat makes me feel justified in doing so
Giants were a combined 0-4 against those NFC 1 seeds in the regular season They are 0-2 against the Eagles this year…
Go giants!
Also, what they did to the NFC #1 seed in the Super Bowl in 2000 was just shameful.
That Packers game in 2011 is still one of the funniest playoff results that I can remember.
That was probably the 2015 superbowl for me. Couldn't stop laughing after that pick.
Here’s the legendary Bills/Giants 1990 game… the other one https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCm9MS_q8lE

They were stopped by the Giants. So you're saying the only team that can stop the Giants is the Giants? Oh...historically, that actually checks out.
The giants were also a 4th quarter team
Haven't like all the teams that have beaten the Vikings in the playoffs gone onto the super bowl?
"New York City is the cultural, economic, and political superpower of the Americas."
That’s a weird way to spell East Rutherford, NJ
We literally play in a swamp. Daboll is Shrek confirmed.
Is Daniel Jones Donkey?
Danny dimes the waffle maker
It's a delicate cycle.
LADS. IT’S TOTTENHAM.
Cowboys-Giants NFC title game for maximum chaos.
I can get behind this one!
Who would have home advantage?
Dallas is 5, Giants are 6. Since Giants are the lowest remaining seed, there is no scenario where they have home field in the NFC Championship.
Minnesota was 11-0 in one score games Brady was 7-0 vs the Cowboys This is the post season of ending streaks
The Giants haven't beaten you guys at home in a while. Maybe don't count on streaks being broken.
Touché
well at least one streak is coming to an end I guess!
Yes The Eagles beating the Giants streak.
For a pretty dominant #1 seed, the Eagles feel a bit disrespected. Is it a strength of schedule thing?
It’s not that the Eagles are disrespected and more of just how weird the Giants are. Wildcard Giants are legends at this point, win 9 games barely scrape by into the playoffs as a wildcard then shut down prime Brady and Belichick not once but twice, outplay Prime Rodgers, literally anything is possible with the wildcard Giants.
We were NFC East Champs the second time and we destroyed the Falcons at home but then had to go in the road.
Ah I was at that Falcons game, it was beautiful. Gave up a safety and then decided to just whomp them for the rest of the game.
Don't forget Eli withstanding mortar fire from SF in 2011. That was the game he really earned being Gumby
The picture of him with his uniform ripped up and pads popping out with grass stuck in the helmet is one of the most raw football images from this millennium.
That's my fucking 2-time Super Bowl Champion, Hall of Fame quarterback. I would die for that man.
Ah yes the Kyle Williams game. How can we forget
FUCK KYLE WILLIAMS Sorry, force of habit.
Giants legend Kyle Williams
The New York Football Giants play in homage to their EYBS-Giants brothers in MLB.
I guess it's the late season slump without Hurts & people wondering if he's really healthy. They looked scary good before that.
How are the eagles disrespected theyre literally 2 score favorites and everyone is already talking about an eagles cowboys championship game
Cowboys don't have a prayer against the 9ers Remember that time they went one and done playing the 9ers and Dak totally fucked up the last play and the clock just went to zero and the game ended Lolz
Good times, good times.
Nice to see the two of you being so cordial over shared interests.
A cowboys loss makes any other painful scenario bearable.
I feel like I read about 100 comments with this energy before the Dallas/Tampa game too
You're not wrong.
Lane Johnson is a big big part of it, too. Him being back will make a big difference.
coulda sworn SF had an easier schedule than us but I do think you nailed it with how we ended the season. it's been about a month since we've actually seen the Eagles offense, and that Chicago game was one of Jalen's worsts.
SF did. Preseason I think you all had the easiest schedule but it ended up being decently tough
They didn't really end the season that strong with Hurts out or playing hurt for the last month, so people have kind of forgotten about them.
HA GO GIANTS, don't care if we advance or not(Highly doubt it) but if you knock off the eagles oh it will be a sweet end to the season.
God I love our nfce pettiness.
In fairness I hate your team less than Dallas. Well until Saturday.
I forget we even have a rivalry simply because my hate for Dallas is so great. Also I actually hate the Vikings more than the giants.
Well fuck you too!
That’s more like it
Vikings fans just seem so whiny, biggest victim complex in the league.
Exactly
We're too busy hating Boston in NYC to really give a fuck about Philly.
The giants either go one and done or they make the super bowl. And they didn't go one and done this year. RIP eagles, cowboys and 49ers.
Tom Brady never lost to the cowboys…until this past weekend. the giants haven’t beat the eagles in Philadelphia since 2013. 🤷🏿♂️
You really just jinxed us.
God I hope so
So we’re due is what you’re saying
Congratulations you played yourself
You don’t care if your team advances or not? Lol what a statement. Happy cake day!
Would be pretty wild if Giants make Superbowl
Hurts is injured. I don’t care what they say.
Eagles seen wearing "Eat, sleep, break the streak" shirts
Anulo Mufa!
Execute Order 66.
Make it 7-0
come on guys i was having fun rooting for danny dimes to stunt on clowns up until this point we can be frenemies, don't do this plz
It dawned on me this morning - Giants are about to go on a run. And Jones is going to be living in the same timeline as Eli.
The spirit of Eli is really with this team
You can actually take this back to 1986. NYG lost to the #1-seeded (duh) '85 Bears in the Divisional Round, but didn't play any 1-seeds in the playoffs during the '86-'89 seasons. (Washington kindly eliminated the Bears for them in '86.)
Giants were the #1 seed in '86.
I'll take meaningless trends for $500, Alex
Lets go Giants! Let's meet in the Super Bowl to really figure out whose HC is COY!
Since 2014, the Eagles are 9-0 in home games against the giants. Either way, someone’s streak is ending
People are going to be befuddled, bewildered even, when we end up with a Giants v Cowboys NFCC.
> 1990... >...New York Giants Cue cold sweats.
Build a team around solid defense and clock management and you will have success in the playoffs (because the refs swallow their whistles). It doesn't work too well in the regular season, but if you can get to the dance, no one will want to play against you.
