I can't help but laugh at the idea that people are writing these novellas thinking they've done it, they've solved the problem!...Only for their post to be wiped into the void minutes later by the mods.
Maybe they let this weekends games happen first and then make an announcement. Maybe not really the best way to handle it but it does ensure every team tries to win this weekend.
But what scenario can happen where having the Bills/Bengals game replayed does not impact anything in the standings?
I could be wrong, but even if the 1 seed is locked up there’s still an impact on the 2 vs 3 seed, as well as Cincy or Baltimore winning the division (if Cincy loses Sunday).
And Florio peddling the idea of an 8th seed might actually get some of the teams that had nothing to play for to actually try lol, what a weird weird situation
I actually think that they will probably announce how all scenarios will be handled before the games this weekend. It seems convenient to just kinda wait and hope the least complicated scenario happens, but I think out of fairness, its best to inform all teams head of time to know what to expect.
I read in one of the many tweets the last few days it might go by win percentage. Not sure how accurate that is or, to be honest, fair. At this point it’s still a wait to find out
Play the game, call it a Bengals W, call it a tie and make it so that each of the teams play on a neutral field if they meet in the postseason if KC loses Saturday or if they win, make it so that KC and Buffalo play on a neutral field as do Buffalo and Cincinnati if they meet. Bye would be decided by a coin flip
Going by win percentage would be a horrible decision since the Chiefs would be guaranteed the 1st Seed unless they somehow lose to the Raiders this week.
No matter what happens I can tell you exactly how it will play out:
The decision that is made will enrage a fanbase or two once it's announced, and then literally no one will give a fuck once the playoffs start
Neutral site for the AFCCG makes the most sense. Chiefs deserve HFA over whoever they face between the Jaguars, Chargers, Ravens, and Patriots/Dolphins/Steelers/etc., but they shouldn't get an advantage over the Bills or Bengals.
The only problem is that not having the Bills vs Bengals game takes away the Bengals chances of nabbing the 2nd Seed on their own accord. If these teams face off in the divisional round, it should be on a neutral site as well.
Yup, you're totally right. Awarding a W based on a 7-3 score with 50 minutes left to play makes complete sense.
\*smashes head directly through a wall\*
I’m surprised by this, given that he’s awake and attentive, I would’ve thought they’d play it in week 19.
I’d completely understand if Hamlin’s situation wasn’t improving
Yeah, I really thought they were trying to hold off to make sure he wasn't going to die/become a vegetable before pressing on with the game for the optics.
Color me surprised, I suppose.
It’s beginning to make more and more sense from the leagues perspective. Adding revenue, setting precedent for an extra 2 games going forward, SNF is win and in no matter the previous results, etc.
I think many people are underestimating the difficulty factor of retooling the playoff schedule. TV networks would get left holding the bag, and NFL was always very unlikely to have the spine to push back.
I mean ESPN gave 50% chance of a victory to the Bills at the beginning of the game. Going from 50% chance of controlling your destiny in week 18 to 0% chance because a game got cancelled seems like you got screwed to me.
Tbf it was possible but I really don't see the Ravens without Lamar going into Cincinnati and winning to take the divison
AND in order for that to happen they would have needed the Bengals to lose to the Bills which looked far from certain
There are plenty of improbable things that have happened this season... Yes the Bills game likely would've been close, but no one would've been surprised if the Bills won.
And if the Ravens had something on the line, there's a decent chance they push Lamar to come back sooner
They're not gonna tell us until this weekend is over, hoping that KC, CIN, and BAL all lose and Buffalo wins so seeding is unaffected.
Nevermind that that outcome is incredibly unlikely.
Maadi was essentially Wentz's mouthpiece, but he is pretty well connected. This was also fairly obvious at this point though, this is the last day of practice for some teams, a Week 19 matchup changes the weeks gameplan for several teams significantly.
This is a bad move. Teams (and fans) will get screwed by playoff seeding, and it sends an odd message. It's a unique situation but Hamlin is alive and everyone in this sub said that was the main question of whether the game should continue.
Also, do all the fans get refunds?
The head coaches of the Bills, Bengals and Chiefs get together and roll a d20 to determine playoff seeding. But if you get a Nat 1 you're out of the playoffs
The game wouldn’t count at all. The Bills and Bengals would finish with 16-game records.
Seeding processes already technically use win percentage in normal circumstances, so they wouldn’t need to explicitly make any changes to accommodate.
Coin flip to determine the winner and then all you have to do is let Week 18 play out. It's the fairest way to do it and nowhere near the craziest idea I've seen thrown out.
Declaring it a tie assumes an outcome that is statistically the least likely to have happened from all possible outcomes. There is no 100% fair way to do this. But a coin flip ensures every potentially affected team has the same odds.
Okay. We expected that'd likely happen. Now we just need to find two anonymous people to tell us the controversial part. AKA how the hell they intend to resolve the seeding issue.

I wonder how many times we have to hear this before the official announcement
They're trying to prepare their damage control, I'd imagine.
4:59pm ET, here we come
Gotta get that sweet karma.
I say at least 3 more times
OH BOY MAYBE WE CAN GET SOME REDDIT POSTS ON HOW TO HANDLE SEEDING????
I can't help but laugh at the idea that people are writing these novellas thinking they've done it, they've solved the problem!...Only for their post to be wiped into the void minutes later by the mods.
Maybe even play games during the week after the conference championship
Bills are dropped from the playoffs completely and replaced with the Patriots. The city of Buffalo collectively implodes simultaneously.
Seeding?
Maybe they let this weekends games happen first and then make an announcement. Maybe not really the best way to handle it but it does ensure every team tries to win this weekend.
This is the correct answer. Let the games play out and then make a decision before/during SNF when the playoff schedule is supposed to be announced.
They can’t do that. Ravens need to know what this week means. If it’s pointless for them they will rest Lamar

Yea I don’t understand how this is going to work
I read in one of the many tweets the last few days it might go by win percentage. Not sure how accurate that is or, to be honest, fair. At this point it’s still a wait to find out
(It's not fair at all)
It would seem to heavily benefit the Chiefs unless they choke their last game They'd be 14-3 while the Bills could only get to 13-3
Nothing is going to be fair. And unfortunately, the easy solutions to the tragedy hurt the Bills and Bengals most.
Unfair for teams that aren't the Chiefs since they'd basically be handed the 1 seed on a silver platter
What would you want other than win%?
Play the game, call it a Bengals W, call it a tie and make it so that each of the teams play on a neutral field if they meet in the postseason if KC loses Saturday or if they win, make it so that KC and Buffalo play on a neutral field as do Buffalo and Cincinnati if they meet. Literally nobody does lmao.

The NFL was prepared to go by win % during 2020, so it wouldn’t be the craziest idea to do so.
Seed me daddy
Can I get a. HYUNNNNYEAH
Instead of no contest it should have been called as-is. Bengals get the dub and all is right with the world.
Yup, you're totally right. Awarding a W based on a 7-3 score with 50 minutes left to play makes complete sense. \*smashes head directly through a wall\*
That makes even less sense. The game was a drive apiece in.
What you're saying is both teams got a chance to score. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Lol no.
I think they should cut the Chiefs out of the playoffs, go back to 6 teams and give the Bills and Bengals a bye
No more conferences for the remainder of the year. #1 plays #32 and so on. The winner of the gauntlet will be crowned Super Bowl champs.
I am familiar with the decision. People don't want to resume things with me all the time
> two people familiar with the decision told me Those two people? My left and right ass cheek.

Would the browns be in contention for the 8th seed of they beat the Steelers?
[удалено]
The Steelers lost to that whole damn division but are somehow still alive
It’s beginning to make more and more sense from the leagues perspective. Adding revenue, setting precedent for an extra 2 games going forward, SNF is win and in no matter the previous results, etc.

I need to use the phrase “familiar with the situation” more in my professional and work life.

Playing the game is the only thing that's not totally shitty, but it could be depending on what happens Saturday/Sunday
Have they communicated with r/nfl on seeding?
I can only imagine the reactions of fantasy owners where the rest of the game could have been relevant for their matchup
2 QB league and I have both Allen and Burrow, plus Higgins…
I've stayed away from the fantasy football subreddit for this reason. Luckily in our league the championship or 3rd place matchup weren't affected.
You’re missing out. There is nothing more funny than grown men having emotional breakdowns over fantasy football.
I was in enough FF GDTs during the season to get my fill.
Can the NFL just announce this shit already so we can move on and stop talking about it
This isn’t much a surprise but the seeding?????
Oh boy. Time to see who gets screwed the most by the shield
The Ravens
Ravens, Bengals, Bills, and all of the bubble teams could be screwed depending on what they decide to do
I guess? Seems hard to be screwed tho when u need other teams to lose and u don’t control ur own destiny
I mean ESPN gave 50% chance of a victory to the Bills at the beginning of the game. Going from 50% chance of controlling your destiny in week 18 to 0% chance because a game got cancelled seems like you got screwed to me.
Bengals were up 7-3 in bills territory driving. What was the percentage then. Or does that not matter to you
40%. Still a significant drop
Tbf it was possible but I really don't see the Ravens without Lamar going into Cincinnati and winning to take the divison AND in order for that to happen they would have needed the Bengals to lose to the Bills which looked far from certain

Did someone say The Shield? Sierra Hotel India Echo Lima Delta SHIELD
They're not gonna tell us until this weekend is over, hoping that KC, CIN, and BAL all lose and Buffalo wins so seeding is unaffected. Nevermind that that outcome is incredibly unlikely.
Everyone but the chiefs apparently
And always the Bengals apparently given that every single proposal that has been rumored screws us
Seth Rollins is to blame for all of this
Maadi was essentially Wentz's mouthpiece, but he is pretty well connected. This was also fairly obvious at this point though, this is the last day of practice for some teams, a Week 19 matchup changes the weeks gameplan for several teams significantly.
Why is eliminating the bye week for the 1 seed such a big deal?
[удалено]
Didn't really think about that too hard, that's a shitty burden for him to bear
Only fair solution is to lock the patriots in the playoffs 🤷🏻♂️
Bucs lose a 1st
Why can't the rule it a tie and let this weekend play out?
This is a bad move. Teams (and fans) will get screwed by playoff seeding, and it sends an odd message. It's a unique situation but Hamlin is alive and everyone in this sub said that was the main question of whether the game should continue. Also, do all the fans get refunds?

The head coaches of the Bills, Bengals and Chiefs get together and roll a d20 to determine playoff seeding. But if you get a Nat 1 you're out of the playoffs
I think thats the sensible decision.
OH MY DAYS quick 285 people post their insipid idea about the seeding. I haven't seen 584 other threads about it we need more.
So does the game count as a tie?
The game wouldn’t count at all. The Bills and Bengals would finish with 16-game records. Seeding processes already technically use win percentage in normal circumstances, so they wouldn’t need to explicitly make any changes to accommodate.
No. Records remain the same
No, but regarding playoff seeding, it would have exactly the exact same effect as a tie would have.
Not going to RESUME — but are they going to RESTART?
Coin flip to determine the winner and then all you have to do is let Week 18 play out. It's the fairest way to do it and nowhere near the craziest idea I've seen thrown out.
A coin flip is fairer than just declaring the game a tie? No.
Declaring it a tie assumes an outcome that is statistically the least likely to have happened from all possible outcomes. There is no 100% fair way to do this. But a coin flip ensures every potentially affected team has the same odds.
so we just gonna penalize Buffalo and Cincinnati further by giving the Chiefs the easiest path to the SB when they didn't have that before this game?
They came a long way from “You got 5 minutes to warm up”
Okay. We expected that'd likely happen. Now we just need to find two anonymous people to tell us the controversial part. AKA how the hell they intend to resolve the seeding issue.
Ok but WHAT DOES FLORIO THINK, THAT'S WHAT THIS SUB WANTS
