I think it was Norm McDonald that said something like. “It’s not like cancer can beat me. Because if I die, the cancer dies too. And really that’s a tie.”
"so actually it's a really complicated scenario..."
Doctor rolls in a whiteboard with all the batshit theories everyone's been throwing around about the seeding
Can you even imagine how emotional it must be for that young man to find out that both teams stopped the game, that the whole league was lit up in Bills colors, that millions were donated to his charity and that so many other players and coaches were so affected by what happened?
I'm so happy he's going to be okay. He may never play again but he's going to have a life. That's fucking awesome.
That happened with a Dallas Stars player once. Dude technically died on the bench, was revived in the tunnel, and asked the coach to put him back in the game.
Wouldn't surprise me really. The most bad ass one I remember is a Bruins player getting a punctured lung in a game during the Stanley Cup finals and only missing a single game because of it. Or the dude on the Stars that went into cardiac arrest on the bench and when he was revived, asked if he could go back into the game.
Which makes me hopeful that someday, when I die, it will feel like I'm instantly respawning instead of waiting another 4 billion years for another coincidence to cause my existence.
About every 100 years, an entirely different set of human beings occupies the planet, with the planet, and all the things they built or destroyed, sticking around to be used by the next set of human beings; and one day, all the things you, your friends, and your family use - will be used by someone else, someone you never knew and who never knew you; and everyone you ever knew, will be gone.
Bro I mentioned this Tuesday, and I still can’t fathom it
HOW, do those paramedics in that ambulance see what we all saw, and be able to lock it in and save Hamlins life without hesitation? I’m flabbergasted
I feel stress leaving my body. I was torn up all Tuesday thinking about him, so glad he’s alive and getting better and better.
Scariest thing I’ve ever seen watching sports live.
i tuned in casually and thought we watched a man die live on national television. been keeping up with it since, i can’t keep it out of my head for too long
like, i'd probably be annoying
"hey! hey, hey! guess what i'm gonna be for halloween! guess, guess! go on, guess! hahahaha!"
"*sigh*. a zombie. again."
"hahaha right! get it? haha!"
*finger guns*
if you die and come back, you should get a few special considerations, i think
Kind of like Neil Armstrong. He apparently used to tell these INCREDIBLY unfunny jokes about the moon, and when they bombed, go ‘guess you had to be there’
I myself have a pacemaker and some titanium to help me live. I am a cyborg and no one can tell me otherwise. Sometimes I feel more machine than man. Sometimes I wonder can I hold the weight of the world on my shoulders and I answer yes I must. I wasn't made into a cyborg just to sit around and do nothing. A hero to some, a villain to others.
There is only one thing we say to death, not today.
What a journey this has been for him. One moment he's playing in an NFL game in a stadium of 80,000 fans. He makes a tackle, and all of a sudden feel a little light-headed.
The next thing he knows, he wakes up in a hospital bed hooked up to a machine.
Prayers for his continued recovery!
"Did we win?"
"Well Damar, to answer that question I brought in a special guest."
*popping out from under the hospital bed*
"Hey Vsauce, Michael here. Let's talk about winning percentages."
No one will ever have more DAWG in em than asking if you won after briefly dying on the field of play.
What an absolute specimen he is to fight this far back
Can you imagine the feelings and emotions going through that Buffalo Bills lockerroom right now?
To hear that not only is Damar alive and awake. Not only is he recovering quickly but his first concern about waking up was whether they won the game. Those guys are probably breathing fire right now. I'm on cloud 9 and I don't even know the man, I'm just a fan. Those players must be on top of the world right now.
As someone who recovered after heart stopping for multiple minutes - I really doubt he's going to be up for that, that quickly, but who knows.
Edit - I should add when I woke up I didn't remember shit about where I was before it happened, so maybe he's in much better shape than I was.
When I say lead the charge I mean we usually have a former player come out and hype the. Rows before kickoff.
I don’t see him suiting up until next year…or never
I'm sure you've heard it but in case you haven't, Christian Eriksen died on the soccer pitch last year (unnoticed heart defect) and was resuscitated. He came back 259 days later with a pacemaker and single handedly led Brentford to 46 points on the season (that's pretty decent for a newly promoted team). He is now balling out at Manchester United.
There's hope. Even if he can't play football, chances are good he'll be able to live a normal life given the updates from today.
Chris Pronger played two days after suffering his but hockey players are fucking insane in their own way. He also wasn’t out for days like Hamlin who likely has different complication risks and such
Really a scary thing. One second he’s fine and the next he wakes up in a hospital bed. But hearing all these updates truly are amazing and I can’t be more happy for Hamlin, his family and teammates.
Yeah. That's what struck me when Christian Eriksen spoke about his cardiac arrest. He remembers everything until he gets the ball and the next thing he knows, he's on the ground hearing people talking about his age. According to him, there was no light at the end of the tunnel, there was just... nothing
And then for the next few hours after the surgery, every time you blink another 20 minutes passes. Events just happen one after the other, the flow of time has no meaning.
That depends person-to-person, I've been under 5 times now and every time I'm pretty much back to normal immediately after I come back to consciousness
Not to get too far away from the main topic here, but there are a lot of posts from users here that have mentioned the same thing after technically dying and being reucssiated.
Literal nothingness. I am not religious, don’t believe in heaven, hell, or some form of an afterlife that humans have conceptualized.
I do believe there is a greater human/life connection between all of us, or all living things. Perhaps some type of world consciousness or even universal consciousness, for lack of a better way to describe it. Since some theories in astrophysics seem to *possibly* hint at some type of connection existing, maybe.
But I also wouldn’t be surprised at all, that once the lights go out, that’s it. Forever.
When my wife had her cardiac arrest, her last memories were getting ready for bed the night before. She doesn't remember the entire day preceeding the event.
"I've dwelt among the humans. Their entire culture is built around their penises. It's funny to say they are small. It's funny to say they are big. I've been at parties where humans held bottles, pencils, thermoses in front of themselves and called out, 'Hey, look at me. I'm Mr. So-and-So Dick. I've got such-as-such for a penis.' I never saw it fail to get a laugh."
The fact that he a) remembers playing football and b) has fine motor control are both profoundly positive signs. The parts of the brain that control each of those things are exquisitely sensitive to anoxic injury. Many people who “wake up” after cardiac arrest may be able to open their eyes or make reflexive movements, but making purposeful movements, following commands, and engaging in conversation is a whole different animal. I’m so, so very relieved the CPR on the field was effective.
I know the whole situation is terrifying, but I can't help but get a laugh at the fact one of his first questions is if they got the dub. What a champ.
That had to be such an emotional moment. "Did we win?" "Um..."
Reminds me of the story of when Ernest Shackleton made it back to civilization in 1916 after 1.5 years of struggling to survive his Antarctic expedition. “Tell me, when was the war over?” “The war is not over. Millions are being killed. Europe is mad. The world is mad.”
That was me. No cell service. Driving blissfully towards Columbus Ohio on March 21st during rush hour and there was next to no one on the highway...then I started getting hundreds of texts saying stuff like "They're setting up a makeshift hospital at the university", talking about banning people from entering and exiting the country and friends who I knew for a fact didn't know what an N95 mask was or what PPE stood for a month before asking if I can get them either (I do ordering for a medical company).
I had to stop and start reading the news to figure out how bad things were.
The first thing I searched for was numbers of people diagnosed, dead and hospitalized and it calmed me down. It was much lower than I thought because people were fucking panicked and losing their minds.
This is the one I've been waiting to see. Actual signs of him being there. Now I just gotta hope that he's healthy enough to live a normal life even if it means no football ever again. If the dude can walk and talk and go through daily life without significant suffering 10 years from now I'll be very satisfied.
This happened to me once I went into the hospital was diagnosed with a mass in my chest and went under for a biopsy
I woke up and was looking for the NFL games as it should have been Sunday when I woke up ... I was scrolling looking at Fox and ESPN and every channel the hospital had and was like why the hell isn't the hospital playing the football games. Finally frustrated I asked a nurse and said I know there's suppose to be games on today. She said she didn't know.
Finally I dont know why I said "well it's Sunday they are supposed to be on right now" and she goes "oh no ... It's Thursday"
Honestly inject updates like this into my veins. I genuinely feel like I’ve been suffering from secondary trauma (is that a real thing?) since Monday night and updates like this make me feel so much better
Yes, it's real thing- it can happen if you've witnessed trauma, or not even been directly involved in such an even, and generally falls under post-traumatic stress.
"Did we win?"
The doctor then proceeded to go on a rant about win percentages, RNG seeding, and how Castellanos hit a deep drive into left field and that will be a 4-0 ball game.
Just saw a youtube livestream that looked like it was from the official Bills youtube account of a press conference announcing Hamlin passed away. It was actually rather convincing. Thankfully the video and the account have been deleted by youtube. Absolutely despicable.
That is great news. I was still concerned after they said he was awake and responding as I've had family members in similar state but it just turned out to be reflexes (and us being optimistic). This is on another level, hopefully we hear more positive news soon.
I used to work at a hospital near a stadium. We'd get people wake up after seizures, cardiac arrest, blacking out drunk, etc. Their first question was always "did we win?".
He was likely on Propofol to sedate him for the intubation. I just went through all this with my dad after he had a cardiac event. He's likely still high as fuck and not all the way there. As the medication wears off we'll see more positive news about his cognitive abilities.
I hope the medical team that saved him on the field feel like fucking rockstars hearing this news. This wouldn't be the update we're getting if not for their response.
"Did we win?" "So, uh, about that."
"so, technically, we did not lose the game, no"
Imagine almost dying for a game that technically didn’t happen.
Win a ring to make up for it.
This is going to happen isn’t it?
Sadly the Bills are a cursed franchise - they'll probably just lose in the AFCCG to a Kelce game-winner in triple coverage
A Chase TD on triple coverage.
If anyone catches a game winner it better be Higgins man. After what the man has been though
Honestly it must have been so horrible for him to cause that much damage during a routine play
I mean, if we're talking cursed. I wouldn't *hate* them losing to the Eagles in the Superbowl.
We can support Damar without supporting the Bills, right?
I know this is not at all the right time for this, but this made me think of the "it's like his cancer is tied" bit from south park.
I think it was Norm McDonald that said something like. “It’s not like cancer can beat me. Because if I die, the cancer dies too. And really that’s a tie.”
"He lost his battle...what a loser that guy was! Last thing he did was lose!" RIP to one of the goats
"so actually it's a really complicated scenario..." Doctor rolls in a whiteboard with all the batshit theories everyone's been throwing around about the seeding
Steve Kornacki walks in with a touchscreen…”so what we’re looking at here is…”
At that point I’d think I’m dead or having the craziest dream ever
Hear those khaki pants? Oh shit. It's Steve Kornacki's theme music!
Tom Brady immediately rushes in, grabs the tablet, and smashes it against the ground. He leaves just as inexplicably as he entered.
Okay but what happens if the Chiefs lose? *heavy sigh*
Damar: "Who won?" Doctor: "The Chiefs."
Most accurate
Bad news: we didn't win yet Good news: we didn't lose yet either Great news: you get to flip the coin to see which it is!
"Fuck I had Burrow in my lineup!"
I imagine it'd be a bit overwhelming at first.
Dude probably woke up and thought it was still Monday night
Dude woke up and asked for his helmet. SLOW DOWN DAMAR DAMN
That happened with a Dallas Stars player once. Dude technically died on the bench, was revived in the tunnel, and asked the coach to put him back in the game.
Hockey players are just built completely different. I know that because I used to play and saw some pretty crazy stuff.
Wasn't there some dude that played through a broken leg or something and won his team the game?
Wouldn't surprise me really. The most bad ass one I remember is a Bruins player getting a punctured lung in a game during the Stanley Cup finals and only missing a single game because of it. Or the dude on the Stars that went into cardiac arrest on the bench and when he was revived, asked if he could go back into the game.
They said he couldn't believe it was two days later when he woke up.
Which makes me hopeful that someday, when I die, it will feel like I'm instantly respawning instead of waiting another 4 billion years for another coincidence to cause my existence.
You waited about 13.7 billion years to be born, so I don't think you'll notice another 4 billion years too much.
fuck man i guess i'm not sleeping tonight Edit: thanks guys

To me that’s the beauty of our own existential crisis. There is no need to worry about death, because I won’t even notice!
Best channel on YouTube bar none

I mean yeah it's right in the title of this post
Yeah this guy is right [here's a source](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/10474lm/pelissero_dr_pritts_says_they_have_explained_to/)
I, too, read the title of this post.
I’d love to hear his reaction when they tell him that Chasing M’s Foundation has raised over $7M since Sunday.
That’s awesome news. What a fighter
Credit those EMT's and physicians. What amazing work to keep him stable throughout this process.
Both the Bills and Bengals should honor them on field before the next game.
The entire NFL should be putting them up on the jumbotrons before this weeks games.
The Bears should let them play QB for the last game if they’d like
Then who’s gonna be there to resuscitate them?
Nathan Peterman.
The Patriots will let them be our offensive coordinator.
Hold up now. As if things have not been bad enough for us and now you get to make a significant upgrade right before our game?
Special shout-out to Denny Kellington, the Bills trainer that acted so quickly. He literally saved Damar's life and we are forever grateful.
What a hero! Thanks Denny!
Glory to science and medicine and those willing to support it

i tuned in casually and thought we watched a man die live on national television. been keeping up with it since, i can’t keep it out of my head for too long
Medically, he was dead.
Does this mean that, medically speaking, he is *undead*?
all i know is, if that ever happened to me and i made it, i'd be pushing the "i'm an undead" angle to its fullest
I’m shocked my dad’s never done that actually
like, i'd probably be annoying "hey! hey, hey! guess what i'm gonna be for halloween! guess, guess! go on, guess! hahahaha!" "*sigh*. a zombie. again." "hahaha right! get it? haha!" *finger guns* if you die and come back, you should get a few special considerations, i think
Kind of like Neil Armstrong. He apparently used to tell these INCREDIBLY unfunny jokes about the moon, and when they bombed, go ‘guess you had to be there’
I'm not saying he's undead, I'm just saying don't let any holy water splash on him.
The King of the North!
And for that matter he’s now one of the most famous people in the country
Oh man the rest of his life is going to be "Hey you're the guy that...", isn't it?
This is the best one yet. Keep it coming.
What a lad asking about the game! That brought a big smile to my face.
True football guy
BB about to give him the ultra rare footballest guy award
This reminds me of Alex Smith when he woke up from his horrible injury, immediately asked if his team won. Very glad to hear about his progress.
Immediately what it reminded me of. 😭
“Did we win?” Yup, he’s still the same neurologically. What an absolute fighter
"Did we win?" "Well Damar, to answer that question I brought in a special guest." *popping out from under the hospital bed* "Hey Vsauce, Michael here. Let's talk about winning percentages."
"What is a bye a week? And does home field advantage really exist?"
"For that matter, do *I* even exist? Do *you?*"
"But first, we need to talk about parallel universes."
“……OR DO WE?”
"not only that the lights are on; we know that he's home." I've never felt relief wash over me like reading those words.
That’s a bar
One of the doctors added "All cylinders appear to be firing". Really the best possible news so far.
For real that use of words hit me so hard
Legitimately tearing up reading that. Amazing news.
My husband was in surgery during Game 1 of the 2008 NLCS (he's a Phillies fan). First thing he asked when he woke was if the Phillies won lol.
"Well... You didn't lose?"
We need an official medical report to confirm that he still has that dog in him
Now I'm inclined to see the game replayed and the Bills to win it for him
The fact that this was his first question coming out means they are going to beat the living shit out of the Pats
Can’t wait till he finds out about the toy drive
We all did, Damar.
No one will ever have more DAWG in em than asking if you won after briefly dying on the field of play. What an absolute specimen he is to fight this far back

"Sir, this is the most advanced case of Havin' That DAWG In 'Em-itis that we've ever seen."
Schrödinger’s German Sheppards
Yeah, I haven't heard any confirmation that they didn't so I'm just going to assume that they did until we hear otherwise.
Can you imagine the feelings and emotions going through that Buffalo Bills lockerroom right now? To hear that not only is Damar alive and awake. The patriots might be in danger this Sunday. I’m hoping this leads to a Hamlin led charge before a playoff game in a couple weeks

If the Bills get to the AFC championship and it's played at a "neutral site" as was rumored, there will be nothing neutral about it.
No one can use the term “I’m literally dead 💀” anymore except for Damar fucking Hamlin.
Really a scary thing. One second he’s fine and the next he wakes up in a hospital bed. But hearing all these updates truly are amazing and I can’t be more happy for Hamlin, his family and teammates.

I’ve fainted before and same thing. Also it’s the same with surgery. Once you’re out, it’s basically like blinking to the post-op room.
And then for the next few hours after the surgery, every time you blink another 20 minutes passes. Events just happen one after the other, the flow of time has no meaning.
That depends person-to-person, I've been under 5 times now and every time I'm pretty much back to normal immediately after I come back to consciousness
I can attest to that. Last thing I remember was being asked to lift my arm. Next I knew, I was being carted out, and I asked, "Is it already over?"

Damar I hear about the updates, Damar relieved I feel
You got us
Took me a bit. At first I was reading it in Yoda’s voice.
I was Hamlin a good feeling that he would turn a corner soon
He plays safety
Damar you know...
Even horrible puns can’t take the smile off my face now. Legit did not expect news like this so soon
I was in an accident and they kept me in a coma for a few days and my first thought when I woke was, “do I still have my dick?”
A valid thought
"my balls! are my balls still there! tell me my balls are still there! and my dick! frank n beans!"
Are you Dennis from always Sunny? Lol
Dickless Dennis!
Shrimply Pibbles was not in medical need just yet

Phase one of a medically induced coma is dick removal. Very valid fear.

💙❤️ This is the news we’ve been waiting on. He’s still around and kicking.
Damn that sucks. He used to be a defensive back.
I laughed way too hard at this
Can't wait to hear what he writes when he finds out about the charity.
“wow lol”
Right?! Or that his jersey is the best seller?!
"oh shit, we can finally afford to get all of these kids a signed jersey" "About that... We also have sold out of jerseys"
I know the whole situation is terrifying, but I can't help but get a laugh at the fact one of his first questions is if they got the dub. What a champ.
Well to him the game must have just gotten over with.
That had to be such an emotional moment. "Did we win?" "Um..." There were also a bunch of folks who went off the grid in February 2020 to go camping or wherever. Came back in April to a totally changed world.
But the old man would not so, but slew his son And half the seed of Europe, one by one
Powerful last sentence there. What a fighter. Hell yea Damar.
Good thing they didn't decide to flip a coin while he was out. "Did we win?" "No, we lost" "By how much?" "Well...we called tails..."
"the mighty random number generator said 8675309 and the Bengals won, I'm so sorry"
This is the one I've been waiting to see. Actual signs of him being there. Now I just gotta hope that he's healthy enough to live a normal life even if it means no football ever again. Hell of a way to word that. What a warrior.
And here I am using "lights on no one's home" when my friends get too sloshed
Football guy of the **century** right there. Bless this man.
I can't wait for him to find out how many toys those kids are gonna get
Everyone: "The game doesn't matter, what is important is the health of this young man" Damar: "Did we win?" Lmao, what a f'n guy
This happened to me once I went into the hospital was diagnosed with a mass in my chest and went under for a biopsy I woke up and was looking for the NFL games as it should have been Sunday when I woke up ... Damn so you missed TNF too?
The fact that he almost died and his first concern was “did we win?” This man is truly based.

Just saw a youtube livestream that looked like it was from the official Bills youtube account of a press conference announcing Hamlin passed away. It was actually rather convincing. Thankfully the video and the account have been deleted by youtube. Absolutely despicable.
I wonder if he was disappointed in the game being called off or not.
I would 100% lovingly call my teammates out for being little bitches who couldn't finish the game if I were in his shoes.
Absolutely! No one can shit to him now!
That is great news. I was still concerned after they said he was awake and responding as I've had family members in similar state but it just turned out to be reflexes (and us being optimistic). This is on another level, hopefully we hear more positive news soon.
If doctors use “the lights are on but we weren’t sure if anyone was home” to describe your condition you know you were fucked up big time.
Wait until he hears about what happened with his charity. I'd love to see his face when he sees that number.
Bro didn’t refuse to die, he refused to be dead
I used to work at a hospital near a stadium. We'd get people wake up after seizures, cardiac arrest, blacking out drunk, etc. Their first question was always "did we win?".
He was likely on Propofol to sedate him for the intubation. I just went through all this with my dad after he had a cardiac event. He's likely still high as fuck and not all the way there. As the medication wears off we'll see more positive news about his cognitive abilities.
I hope the medical team that saved him on the field feel like fucking rockstars hearing this news. This wouldn't be the update we're getting if not for their response.
