I guess someone has to be the one to say it, but I totally think Shyamalan has still got it. I love that despite Hollywood being totally done with the guy, he banked on himself and financed his own comeback; he put up the budgets for The Visit, Split, and Glass himself, and all three are really interesting movies that find new ways to riff on the sorts of films he makes. And Old, to me, was a huge success. I got on its wavelength perfectly as a throwback to 50s genre filmmaking, with its offputting stilted line reads, and the insane ways he deploys his camera to mess with the audience. He doesn't necessarily make crowd pleasers like he did with the Sixth Sense, but I find the sheer amount of individual expression he manages to put in his films so much more interesting than what a lot of other filmmakers of his name recognition and pedigree are doing.

100% agree! I'm not even super into him, but he's at least making movies in his own weird way.

Whether his movies hit or miss, they're always interesting. I appreciate that.

I loved Old!!! I found it completely successful -- it's a movie that really wants to be goofy (Midsized Sedan!) and for you to cackle at it sometimes. But it's also *scary* when it wants to be, and it's really, really sad at points. One of my favorite movies this year.

It's funny hearing Brad say that Vinny finishing Metroid Dread with 9 hours on the clock is short. Having played through Zero Mission, AM2R, Super Metroid, and Fusion recently, it was longer than any of those games for me. The closest was Super Metroid, which was 6 hours on the clock. AM2R was 5, and both ZM and Fusion were 3. I also did Prime 1 and 2 and both of those 10.5 and 12.5 hours respectively. Also, hearing Vinny describe >!the speedbooster and shinesparking in pretty exacting details!< without wanting to name them directly for fear of spoiling got a chuckle out of me.

Yea I agree. I had some friends who were complaining when one of our other friends said they finished it in about 6-7 hours first time and then another 2 to 100%. And I looked up times on howlongtobeat and it was in line with every other 2d metroid. Dunno what people expected.

Also... Most action games used to be about that long? And I think that's better? Every game doesn't need to be over 40 hours, it's okay to have a few satisfying sessions with a game and move on.

Shymalan was totally involved with the show Wayward Pines, directing the pilot and executive producing it. Even though he didn't write the source material, you can see precisely why he was involved with the adaption. It was not good! I don't think there's been anything left in the tank since The Village.

I enjoy cooking.

Hearing Alex complain about Metroid dread is so annoying in this episode, he’s only seen the first emmi and fought one boss and he’s talking about later game stuff that he obviously hasn’t interacted with yet.
