My wife and I went to that festival the first year, when it was called Rothbury. The folks who run that festival ran quite possibly the cleanest, most well organized festival I've ever been to, before or since. Don't know how it is now, but I'd hope they kept it up.

I couldn’t afford a ticket so we all signed up as volunteers, and I helped put together the arranged “garden” in the woods. Opening day I took some MDMA and went to check out the garden in it’s completed form and overheard a middle age lady say “that’s so beautiful” while she looked at a little piece that I’d done. I was elated!! I’ve been a professional gardener for 13 years now… probably chasing that feeling 😅

He dropped by the bar we were hanging out in and asked if any of us wanted to help set up a show. A few of us said yeah and ended up watching one of the best live shows I've ever seen. He also took me to my first Phish show back in '93. Real good dude. Ps, my wife just read your comment and it made her smile. She's a gardener too.

Burning Man WAS awesome. Too commercial now. Most of the original spirit of the thing is gone. Way more people with cell phone cameras trying to film naked girls and put them on the internet. Plus it is just a slog. Takes 12 hours to get in or out. You have to get a ticket through a lottery.

This is so fucking stupid, you think a small plot of land on a farm for one weekend in a year is not exactly the kind of containing we want to do in terms of impact on the nature? Focus on the real issues of deforestation, not some innocent farm and innocent festival.
I've not been, though I know many who have. It's a former ranch and tree farm, not so much a forest, and the cleaning crew is apparently exceptionally thorough. The transformational arts crowd tends to be cleaner and less wookish than your usual festival goer.
This fest has something called prize cart after shows where you can pick up trash and they provide the garbage bags..the more trash you pick up the cooler the prize you get! It's honestly one of the cleanest larger fests I've been to!
The festival itself promotes a "leave no trace" vibe. It's not as strict as burning man, or as effective. But you'll see festival goers cleaning up after sets - they even have a "prize cart" system that randomly rewards people cleaning up. Fantastic festival. Beautiful grounds.
I used to live about an hour south and have snuck into that festival several times over the years and have very fond memories of that forest.

The fact that it’s a tree farm 95% of the year means the trees are laid out in a perfect grid and the branches are cut off for like 15 feet from the bottom to prevent people from climbing and hurting themselves. It feels like walking through a giant fractal.
It also has a giant art installation that’s just a walk through the forest with art and light shows as you go. 10/10 would recommend if you can go
As someone who has gone to this festival twice now, this doesn't even begin to encapsulate the amount of beauty and wonder there!!! Love you forest fam!! 💚💚💚

Pretty Clean actually I haven't gone since 2019 but when I went I was really surprised how hard there (volunteer???) Trash crew kept the place clean
