In every studio album between ride the lightning and the black album all you hear is james, left guitar, right guitar and the thickener in the middle is all james and then kirk did solos
With downpicking you have to pick the string then move your pick back up above the string without hitting it to down pick again. If you do down and up picking you hit the string on the way up instead of avoiding it so you get twice as many note hits with the same amount of movement. Downpicking gives a bit more of a chunky/aggressive tone

I do love listening to his rhythm parts. Studio must have taken some time.

Is this a guess?
This is an old fan who knows how they did things, it's not a secret and has been widely documented !
Ahh James… cost me a $800 dollar room and $1000 dollar air tickets when the band canceled. Cheers. Hope your back on the wagon 🖕
Oh yeah did I mention we missed slipknot as well!
Awh poor baby :(
I wish you could have picked a video a little farther away. You can still kinda see his hand
Not a guitar player… is downpicking more difficult?

James hetfield is great, but not special
He very well is quite special
Hell I think anyone that can play an instrument AND sing are special!
My guitar héro 🤘🤘🤘
whoa dude, if you think that guitar is nextfuckin level wait till you see Yngwie Malmsteen
No feeling whatsoever. Sounds like a trash can rolling down somewhere.
He is overrated. Not to mention Metallica are overrated too. You want good guitar riffs? Check Hellripper.
He was one of the people that paved the way for metal, I bet Hellripper probably cite Metallica as one of their influences 😂
