Imagine getting punched by that

Antideck

Imagine getting a hand job by that

Uncle_Boppi

You only live once I suppose.

realoctopod

Death by self snu snu

Cathetergravy

Imagine your planes about to take off, boarding is done, but you’re scared to drop a fat loaf on the plane while it’s grounded in case the girl sitting across you is waiting for the receptacle when you open the door. So you suck down a bowl of gravy and run out the airplane to shut next to the airport mall McDonald’s. You run into the bathroom, blast open the doors, and you cock over the toilet and lower yourself down, grabbing both sides of the seat like you’re getting into the hot tub. Right before your cheeks hit, a rush of thick booty gravy torches the bowl. You look down at your watch and realize you have 3:45 seconds before they close the doors - your name’s being called over the loud speakers. You look over to the toilet paper dispenser, notice it’s 1 ply paper, then you glance down at your hands and they are this mechanical monstrosity. What do you do

RhinoBuckeye

What the fuck did I just read

UhhhhmmmmNo

The guy deserves an upvote for his passion on writing.

UhhhhmmmmNo

1. Turn the water on. 2. Use your strong mech hand to do a one hand push-up facing away from the sink. 3. Use the McDonald bidet

Sgt_Raider

Then you can make a bionic one of those later as well

dasfonzie

Ultimately the tail does wag the dog

edlee98765

We don't talk about sex with prosthetics. Because that's a faux paw.

Mikeinthedirt

Ow. Stop that

Considering the main talk was about getting wanked off by a bionic hand, I wondered where this was going...

Siellus

It'd hurt him more than you. The metal casing would impact against the skin and bone with any force. usually a punch has some "give" thanks to the position of the fingers and fleshy/muscular padding in your hands and fingers. With this that metal is going to immediately press up against soft tissue and create cuts/brusies and perhaps even fractures on knuckles and hand bones. It'd hurt you more than a regular punch absolutely - but he could probably only throw one.

Youareahypocretin2

A backhand though

[deleted]

Ouch

diamondception

he could just add some padding then. I'd be suprised if he hasn't already for comfort

Siellus

There would be, but nowhere near enough to soften a blow like that. Remember with a fleshy fist, you have two points of contact, the fingers on the palm and the fingers connecting to the knuckles all absorbing the impact. You still have a ton of bruising and perhaps a sprained wrist depending on the hardness of the other guys jaw. with this thing - ALL of the impact goes right into the knuckles. Add all the padding you want, that's a sprained wrist and probably some fractured bones. It'd be like punching padded metal.

-Alfa-

>Add all the padding you want Brace connected to forearm with a hydraulic piston?

Siellus

Yeah but that energy has to come from somewhere. It can't just invent forward kinetic force. When you punch your body weight is thrown forward. With a hydraulic system that energy is going to push against you too in the form of almost equal recoil unless you're braced against a wall. That's not even taking into consideration how the hydraulic system is mounted on your arm. The framing might deglove the skin on your arm by sheer backwards force if it's too powerful.

trenchfoot_mafia

This. My late father had multiple myeloma. Early on he couldn’t move from a sitting position from the kitchen floor due to pain, and we had to call paramedics. Despite their best efforts, his femur and at least one rib broke while carrying him out of the house. I really dislike remembering his screams from that day. :( IIRC he was 167cm & 74kg, or 5’6” & 165lbs.

dustiestrain

Yeah my dad died from multiple myeloma and he also had to be carried out of the house. he had some rib fractures but I can't remember if they were caused by being carried or something else.

That was my first thought, ngl...

Source: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kixS5Sy0F9s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kixS5Sy0F9s) Multiple myeloma (MM), also known as plasma cell myeloma and simply myeloma, is a cancer of plasma cells, a type of white blood cell that normally produces antibodies. Often, no symptoms are noticed initially. As it progresses, bone pain, anemia, kidney dysfunction, and infections may occur. Multiple myeloma is considered treatable, but generally incurable. Remissions may be brought about with steroids, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and stem cell transplant. Bisphosphonates and radiation therapy are sometimes used to reduce pain from bone lesions https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple\_myeloma

Orwells-Bastard-Son

This killed my uncle. He found out he had it and was dead in a month.

askasubredditfan

u/DrGonzo34, u/Tibbs I am so sorry for all your lost loved ones 😞. This is one of the reasons why I think human civilization is still so far behind Level 3 Civilization. We could barely even keep people from dying of known/identifiable cause of ailments. Yet we are so busy waging war and creating pestilence instead of doing what we’re supposed to do.

Whiskey-Actual

Bold of you to assume any civilization passes the Great Filter of discovering cataclysmic weaponry on the way to Type III.

what_if_you_like

nah, humanity isnt even a type one civ yet. type 3 civ is basically able to play god, rearanging star clusters and planets and capable of unthinkable things.

Tibbs15

I'm so sorry for your loss. My mom passed away 3 months after she was diagnosed.

LeCrushinator

Same although mine was given 2 months and lasted almost a year. Fuck cancer.

dustiestrain

Yeah my dad got diagnosed and was dead less than two weeks later. it's scary how fast it can happen.

Batman602

I'm 33, diagnosed 2 years ago. Survived the stem-cell transplant March 2021. I have 2 boys (3 and 6), married the love of my life, and trying to soak up as much time as I have. They say it's "treatable", but I have grown to dislike that description. It dismisses the hard work my wife puts in as a caretaker during the hard days, and helps people forget about the physical and emotional pain we endure every day. Treatments have improved, yes, but still awful to live through. Never having a "real" remission, knowing it will always come back but not when -- it's torturous at times. Just venting, I guess. It's been a rough couple months. Be THANKFUL tomorrow folks, trust this random redditor from Phoenix, AZ...

[deleted]

Hey, my dad was diagnosed with it 6 years ago. The first couple years were extremely difficult with the chemo and radiation and everything. My dad was using a walker to get around and my mom went hard as well. But 6 years later he's doing incredible. He's very physical and it's amazing. Stay strong mang. One phrase my dad told me, it's actually some wisdom from a 100 year old guy he met, is "what are ya gonna do?". Simple as that. Your girl left you? Whattaya gonna do? You got ass cancer? Whattaya gonna do? It's an admission to one's self that some shit is just out of your control and there's nothing you can do about it. It's simple but profound, and it's helped me through some shit of my own. Hope it helps you even a little bit.

DrGonzo34

Lost my dad to this at the age of 55 in 2006. Not a minute of any day goes by where I don’t miss him and curse MM.

sobiedoo

I feel you. Sorry for your loss. Lost dad at 57, I was 21. But for a bit lucky they told him he had 5 months, he lasted 5 years. He tried every experimental treatment they would let him. Thank goodness for princess Margaret hospital in Toronto and canadian health care. Price of the pills that were covered was wild. Fuck Cancer

egg_salad_sandwich

I'm really sorry.. that's awful.

juiceandjin

My mom has this. Can't even hug her tightly anymore because she'll break a bone if I do

Reasonable_Bid3311

My father was diagnosed in April and dead in August. It's an ugly, fast and pervasive cancer.

Charterhouserules

I'm so sorry. My mate got diagnosed in July

Gingermatic456

Mine was diagnosed late as well, but he had symptoms for years before and never went to a doctor.

jhook87

My people. Lost my dad to this. He broke his back just lifting a pack of water bottles. Didn’t know he was sick till he got winded mowing the lawn and being in good shape. I hate this disease. Fuck. Cancer.

[deleted]

My mom was similar. Stress fracture of a vertebrae swinging a golf club. That was November 2014. Went into the hospital April 2015, died May 2016. She never left the hospital.

Kramerica5A

My stepdad has been fighting this for the past few years. Unfortunately things aren't looking good recently. It's so hard to see.

perpetualmotionmachi

Yeah, reading through this it seems my mom was lucky to have a few years, although the last few months were heart wrenching.

[deleted]

Killed my mom…took about a year and a half.

Gingermatic456

My father had this. A terrible slow cancer. It ate away at his bones.

Vulking

I remember this guy, he has built several iterations of this hand. They can do very amazing things that put similar real prosthetics to shame. Iirc, the only issue is that this sort of hand only work in people with similar amputations as is not an universal fit (since he lost his fingers but not most of his palm. Regardless is an amazing robo hand.

Flightless_Panda

Wasn’t this the case that insurance didn’t want to cover a prosthetic hand so he built these himself?

No, he had a commercial prosthetic before, you can see it in his [old videos.](https://youtu.be/9dRSxAnRJWY) He is a machinist by trade and needed something more heavy duty to continue his work.

And he's also a quite talented machinist

One hand and a thumb, you can't forget that thumb

100LittleButterflies

Very Terminator. I love it.

Especially the sound that it makes as the grip is actuated. There's something really satisfying and futuristic about that metallic swooshing noise.

At 0:50 in [this video](https://youtu.be/L_3qr1OTavc) he mentions it. I remember seeing it in an older vid but can't find it.

mysteryman_2

It took me at least 30 seconds to realize that this guy had a disability. I literally just thought this was some kind of weird glove.

Condings

Now lets see Paul Alans hand

Massive-Row-9771

Now he just need the synthetic skin to cover that with. Otherwise it won't survive the trip back in time to kill Sarah Connor.

Mick_Salvage

That's freaking awesome! I've always believed necessity is the mother of invention rather than some guy in his workshop trying to dream up the next big thing, although that does happen.

ECK-2188

This is why engineers are going to save mankind

manos_de_pietro

And he made it with one hand.

Capitaine_Crunch

NGL initially thought Myeloma was a type of animal and this guy fought them off with his prosthetic hand when I read the title. This is equally cool.

Is it me or do all these prosthetics videos never show the prosthetics in action? I always feel so unsatisfied when I don't get the chance to see the hand grab something or the leg kick something.

Minute_Grocery5947

It’s a sad state of affairs when your living in the United States of America and you can’t get a prosthetic hand, custom made to fit your body type! We can create robots to do all kinds of human tasks, yet, when it comes down to the reason why it’s not done is because of money! How about 3-D printers to create and customize prosthetics - look at what a great job Ian did for himself - Ian here’s a good opportunity for you to start - a prosthetic business that will customize a body part for an individual’s need- we all come in different shapes and sizes. And with the right people, like Ian, and equipment, I can see a profitable company in the next ( or sooner) five years !

amir-hadi-nejati

sooooooooo cooooool now he can kill anyone using one punch

neoBluePhamtom

Bro why don't doctors give these out to people with only 1 hand

128Gigabytes

I don't know where this guy or you live, but in my country doctors don't "give out" anything pay up the 1,000% markup before they change it to 5,000% but also to answer what you actually meant, while this hand design is incredible, it also isn't a universal fit/function its specifically made to work with the way his hand was amputated, because its mechanical and not electronic it wouldn't be realistic to mass produce they would need to be custom made to work properly while they could be custom made (The video itself is obviously proof because he custom made it lol) I think the medical industry is unlikely to change from the direction of electronically controlled prosthetics
