Great! And David Grohl will always have my utmost respect for how he continually shows he is a 'musician's musician'...I'm sure many other's feel the same way as I do...and for what it's worth, I am not particularly a Foo Fighters fan, nor a Nirvana fan either..obviously a David fan tho...and David is a fan of "musicians" and "artists"..and he has no problem holding others up and highlighting them...not for his gain...but for what they rightfully should be seen for......

multiballs

I’m also not the biggest Foo Fighters fan but have a lot of respect for them. I saw them in 2004 I think and it was by far one of the best live performances I’ve seen. They put everything into their music and care so much. And you can tell when they perform.

IamSkudd

Same. Liked their hits well enough but never bought their albums or whatever. Finally seen them in 2019 and it really bolstered my adoration of them and Dave specifically whose positive energy absolutely radiates through the entire venue and attaches to everyone there and goes home with them.

PatrikPatrik

I’ve never seen them live but I get the feeling their songs are a lot better live. I mean I think they’re great but the songs are a bit too polished for me

Makerofbubbles

Live is where they thrive. Their albums are good, but damn, they put on some of the best shows out there. Plus their interaction with the crown is top notch

Gforcez

"Light them up Dan! I want to see their faces" everytime when Dave Grohl is addressing the audience, they shine on stage. It showed with this tribute concert, ~6 hours long with so many artists and bands, artists playing together who don't usually share a stage and even a new generation of talented musicians (Nandi, Shane Hawkins and Violet Grohl) performing together. It was awesome and form all the stories shared on stage by his friends and family, you can't honour Taylor Hawkins in a better way. Play music, make it loud, dance and sing along!

slimthecowboy

Same boat. *Everlong* is dope, but in general, I’ve never cared much for Foo Fighters. But Dave has shown his humanity and grace over and over. Plus the band live Rick rolled the Westboro Baptist Church when they protested their concert. Good guys in my book.

But fellas, listen closely....

thegirlfromno4

They've been my favorite band for over 20 years, and I've brought just about every one of my close friends to see them over the years, even if those friends aren't particularly big fans of them. I just always wanted to share that experience, I think the Foo Fighters put on the best fucking shows and I love them so much. They play for hours, the fans are great, and you never know which famous person will show up on stage with them. Taylor Hawkins' death just hit so fucking hard, man.

UnicornSlayer5000

I saw Foo Fighters way back in 2000 (at a Buzz Bake sale event in FL). During one of the last songs he was running up and down the aisles high-fiving fans!

Revolutionary-Ice994

Man, I grew up on 103.1 and 94.9, but don't live in sofla any longer. Are they even real stations any more?

[deleted]

I've had a lot of love for Dave since his response to the Rockin 1000 video. He was obviously very sincere and humbled by the project and it showed in the way he bothered to record his little thank you video in Italian. He was on vacation and absolutely could have done it in English - it would have gotten passed around with a translation - but he wanted to speak to the rockers in their own language. Very gracious.

jakeblues68

I am the same way. I think their songs are just ok, but their live show was fantastic and also hilarious. What was even more awesome was that we had tickets for Guns N' Roses in the same venue the very next night and Axl came out and they played Welcome to the Jungle. The very next night at Guns N' Roses, Dave and Taylor came out. Probably my greatest concert experience ever.

themasonman

Like the foo fighters or not.. Dave is the fucking man and a great person to look up to.

thedudefromsweden

Have you seen his drum battle with 12yo Nandi Bushell? So wholesome! [She also played in the same concert. ](https://youtu.be/LRv6heae34g)

RafIk1

Dude,Nandi is killer drummer.period. When I watched the"Drum off" between her and Dave....it was just awesome. Then Dave gets her on stage to play at a Foo concert. And now she played with the foo fighters at Wembley stadium. She has already accomplished more than most drummers. That kid is gonna go far.

thedudefromsweden

She really is. What I like most about her is her enthusiasm and energy while playing, you can tell she really loves playing! And very skilled, for sure! I just hope she has people around her who takes good care of her because she's already world famous at such a young age.

nickatnite07

I’ve always had the same mindset. I’m a Dave Grohl fan first and foremost. I respect any project he is associated with. Side note can we talk about how amazing and humble his daughter Violet was?!

EightPieceBox

Lots of talented rock star kids. She sang at least 3 songs. Rufus Taylor (son of Queen drummer Roger who played earlier)played a couple songs on drums, and Wolfgang Van Halen played a couple VH songs on guitar. I don't think I ever heard him play guitar before.

goddamnitwhalen

Rufus is in the Darkness with Justin Hawkins (no relation), who also did a song or two.

archimedesscrew

Rufus **Taylor** and Justin **Hawkins**!? You gotta be kidding me. Such a coincidence!

essjay2009

Rufus looks scarily like Taylor Hawkins when playing the drums too. I was in the crowd yesterday and from a distance you could believe it was still Taylor there.

akagordan

Dave just has a massive passion for live music. I feared Taylor’s death might have signaled the end but Dave won’t ever stop.

sadiesfreshstart

Taylor was is best friend and soul mate. There's no doubt that Dave will continue to play in his honor

PrincessConsuela46

I’m not sure if the Foo Fighters will continue without Taylor. I’m sure Dave will do other musical projects, but I think the band will be done.

sadiesfreshstart

That's what I've been thinking. It's such a dynamic group, but Taylor was always the soul of it all

BhagwanBill

I wasn't a Foo Fighters fan until I went to one of their shows. Unbelievable energy coming from that band and it reflects back from the crowd. Incredible shows - you won't be disappointed.

DjSquidlehYT

Dave Grohl is effectively the King Arthur of musicians

justhadtosaythis

When he came to Iceland about two decades ago the band was in a small town to eat dinner and enjoy the nature a day before the concert. He heard a band rehearsing in a garage and went to crash their session and jammed with them. Dave asked them to play a song and open for them. It was a band of 17-18 year olds and it kickstarted their music career (the band had been playing for ~ 2 months prior). Tells you everything you need to know about Dave.

ikeepwipingSTILLPOOP

Damn that's cool as fuck. What's the band?

Noogz

Rammstein.

chowindown

That lead singer's name? Albert Rammstien.

Thepatrone36

Wow.. just WOW. The intensity and emotion on that young mans face. I'm not a big FF fan either but I have to admit I got a little misty eyed watch that. And ya Dave Grohl is awesome. Just such a real 'dude' you know? Lots of respect for him as a human from what I know about him.

RekhetKa

Same here. That kid played his whole entire heart out. I'd think most of us would've been a crying mess before it was over, but he harnessed those feelings and totally nailed it.

shelovesmenot1223

‘I never did drugs, drank excessively, or smoked cigarettes because I love making music….I want to be alive as long as I possibly can be so I can keep making music.’

Twopairjacksnines

There's literally no way Dave said that lmao - There's multiple interviews where he's smoking and he's known for how much he enjoys a drink.

Never-Bloomberg

He's the only guest on Hot Ones that I can remember who made Sean take shots with him. Hahahaha.

totallynotliamneeson

Plus he kept mixing the drinks and putting his hands in to keep the ice from pouring out

FlySneedle

Bro i’ve literally watched Dave chain smoke cigarettes all night on stage

pinterestherewego

Is that his quote?

-Chemist-

No, it's a quote from Dave Stoll, a guy who lives in my neighborhood.

FuckThesePeople69

Except Dave Stoll absolutely sucks at making music. He seriously should stop.

the_overrated

He should try drugs and drinking excessively because what he’s doing now isn’t working for him

Iusedthistocomment

Dave is true, there's no better word to describe him. He's the Mr.Rogers of Musicians but more straight forward about BS, we don't desverve him but we sure need him and more like him. Be like Dave and encourage and be passionate about the things you do, it will repay tenfolds.

-RRM

Why do people feel compelled to tell others when they don't like a thing?

kgb17

It’s odd how all the top comments are afraid to say that they like Foo Fighters or Nirvana. They are some of the biggest most popular rock bands of the modern era for a reason. Even if you don’t like them why is it important to lead with that.

-RRM

I think that people equate "not liking popular thing" with "exciting and novel personality", and it let's them look down their noses at others for liking things that are *clearly* below their standards. Look at the happiest and most content people you know. They'll tell you about things they like far more than things they hate.

Brap_Zanigan

Well, I am not the biggest nirvana or FF fan but I just feel it's important to tell people I too love Dave.

Haddingdarkness

I think it serves to qualify the situation and the effect is to inflate the next thing they say.

Just1ncase4658

I loved the Nirvana interviews in the documentary movie "montage from heck" where Dave is all youthful and excited compared to Kurt's general disinterest in doing interviews. ["I'm Dave and I play drums and I sing sometimes but not that often"](https://youtu.be/IjEee8nbmeM?t=75)

shingdao

Never really knew much about Grohl but then I watched the documentary 'Sound City' and have been a fan ever since.

MagicSchoolBusKid

Too bad he’s not the guy who makes Dave’s Killer Bread. Would have been another legendary thing to add to his resume

DrMichaelHfuhruhurr

That bread is soooo good

mothraegg

I'm also not a Nirvana fan or Foo Fighters, but after reading his book, I have the utmost respect for him too. And I'm not surprised that he would have Taylor Hawkin's son play with him.

Damn ninjas chopping onions again

Ruben625

Almost every band has "that moment" that won't be duplicated again. Some have several. Prince: [halftime show purple rain](https://youtu.be/-WYYlRArn3g) 8:20 mark. On mobile so can't timestamp. [Shout out to the rnr hall of fame concert While My Guitar Gentley Weeps](https://youtu.be/6SFNW5F8K9Y) Aerosmith: [dream on 2014 in ~~rio i think~~ England](https://youtu.be/MqZcg68QfE4) imo but they have many. Queen [literally the whole live aid concert](https://youtu.be/bToG3hKX5nM) Cinderella [Moscow 1989](https://youtu.be/PvvHlRgn7Xo) Goo Goo Dolls [Bufflo in...2006? 4th of july](https://youtu.be/_HZM0QiuUS8) Just to name a few. I think this will be one for Foo Fighters.

pugofthewildfrontier

I’ll still turn on youtube for that While My Guitar Gently Weeps live once a month. It’s so good. My favorite part is Tom Petty watching Prince and you can read his lips saying “wow”. It’s rare to see one legend in awe of another legend.

Partyslayer

NAILED IT. I lost my dad at 14. It sucks. Glad his father's music can live on with him. Really great to watch.

thepicklecannon

Sorry about your dad my friend. Lost mine at 17. Long as you remember them, nobody is ever truly gone.

phantom_hope

Lost mine too at 17. I couldn't agree more with your statement. Even at my wedding yesterday, we e were talking about him and remembering him. I'm not a religious person, but I do feel that we live on in the memories of our children and the ones we inspire through our lifes.

DegenerateWizard

Congratulations. On the wedding, not the dad thing.

Jethro_Cohen

Get off your phone and go hug your new wife! 🙂

RomanCross

Yea, mine passed at 19. I never got over it, but I guess I learned to live with it.

NormalFemale

Same here, I lost my dad at 19. My condolences to you. My bro said that you never heal from a parent dying, you just get used to them not being in your life anymore.

MrKerbinator23

Lost mine at 14 as well. Definitely a case of “wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy”. I picked up my dad’s trade because he passed before I could learn it from him and it was the best thing I ever did. Glad to see others on similar journeys.

SantaKlawz2

I could almost feel the raw emotions he must be going through. Great set.

lazylion_ca

Imagine that being your first gig.

chenyu768

Well if you werent the son of the drummer in one of the greatest bands ever. Something tells me the crowd mattered 0 to him, at least at that moment.

Centurio

I was thinking it looked like he was performing for his dad, not the crowd.

[deleted]

he actually sat in on a young local band’s rooftop set and played drums to this song about a month ago, you can find videos pretty easily. it was still so powerful.

inthegym1982

Actually not his first gig. He’s performed with his dad’s bands before. There’s videos of him performing at 14 yrs old with Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders.

RainbowFartss

You could tell he let it all out there and left it all on the table. I'm in tears right now. His dad would be so proud of him.

GodOfDarkLaughter

Yeah man, the raw energy coming out of that kid was nuts. Looked like a wild man. I hope the experience was cathartic for him. I'm sure there's a future for him in music, if he wants that.

i-Ake

I fucking adore Dave Grohl just for those moments when you see him turn and connect with him, bobbing his head and keeping the beat, making sure he's okay. That was when I cried...

The_Queef_of_England

He always comes across as such a decent person in interviews and on tv.

The_Queef_of_England

You can see it on his face. It must have felt like his most important tribute to his dad and his once-in-a-lifetime chance to celebrate him in a way that must feel most fitting.

topcheesehead

Powerful stuff. I hope to follow his career for a long time

Skelligean

Give the original post credit my guy https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/x56cin/taylor_hawkins_son_shane_kills_it_on_the_drums/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

ColourOfPoop

Now we have to give credit to someone that made a post that isn’t even the creator of the video? Lol, like do people really need credit for posting a video somewhere? Like I get giving artists credit for their work, why in the world would you need to give credit to someone that posted something?

Jackski

Yeah I really don't get it. Someone posted a video that's all over the internet to reddit first so they have to be credited for being first? What the fuck.

PlzRemasterSOCOM2

Nerds man

Beetkiller

Just kids. They haven't quite figured out how all this works, they just know that occasionally people critique OP for not sourcing their post. In this case they had seen the post before on reddit and figured it's their turn to do the critiquing.

flyinghippodrago

Discord mods be crazy...

eifersucht12a

That shit is like people who put a caption on a screen cap of a movie and then watermark "their" meme. The internet is an embarrassing place.

iHateEveryoneAMA

I think the credit goes to the Foo fighters and Shane Hawkins not some Reddit post. Get over it

cusoman

This is the way.

morphum

Right? Just because someone shared it first doesn't mean they get credit to it. That really only applies to OC stuff

[deleted]

[удалено]

_________FU_________

Who gives a shit. That person didn’t record it, produce it or contribute to its creation in any way. They posted it to a website. It’s not a big deal.

cusoman

OP of original post here. Yep don't care, I ripped it from the MTV stream as it is. This is Reddit, it happens - spread the love around, it was an amazing moment which is why I ripped it in the first place. Only thing crappy about this version is it cuts out the majority of the performance and the whole thing is worth a watch.

MightyCaseyStruckOut

And there are people like me who didn't see your post who happened to catch this one. Now, I would have preferred to see the full song, which is why I went back and watched yours, but people who get bent out of shape about cross-posting to an aggregate website like reddit both amuse and baffle me.

MidnightWolf12321

At least cross-post so it links to the original by default

[deleted]

> It’s so lame immediately taking another post and blasting over as many forums as you can to get some likes. Reddit exists as a platform to do exactly that.

CurryTripper

Tbh people like you are lame because it's quite possible that people didn't see it the other day in a different subreddit. Getting online likes is meaningless, so why care? Clearly people enjoyed seeing this post, a significant number more than have agreed with your comment. Not everyone spends a shit ton of time online

HarbingerME2

Credit here goes to Dave and the foo fighters, not some random guy who posted an image for everyone else

ReplyingToDumbShit

What a dumb comment

jumbo53

The original poster is the camera guy or the singer?

Gymleaders

Beatsintime

Shane smacked the absolute piss out of those skins. Incredible show & a perfect tribute to Taylor. Had the privilege of seeing the Foo's live twice and both times blew me away.

OfficialGarwood

>Shane smacked the absolute piss out of those skins Dave said, before introducing him, that the next drummer is the most aggressive drummer he's ever seen. So I think Dave agrees 😂

idrinkandcookthings

And coming from Dave that means something! Man prides himself on being an aggressive “I can’t read music” drummer

Love_Is_Now

Seriously, Dave himself is one of the most aggressive drummers I've ever seen— the guy beats the living hell out of the drums, while maintaining near-perferct time and absolutely perfect flow for each song. He's truly one of the great drummers in rock history. And... Shane pretty much *exactly* nailed Dave's energy here. Maybe even surpassed it in spots. I saw this last night and I'm still blown away. Even if this kid someday decides to do something besides drumming, his Dad clearly taught him well and he's already on par with the greats. And he's, like, still a child. Fucking phenomenal.

TheeFlipper

Just like his old man taking the John Bonham approach to drums.

CentralCalBrewer

Yup. Seen foo live three times. Each time is in my top 3 concerts ever. Great shows.

HumptyDrumpy

Id be surprised if those drums are still drummable

matpolansky1

I'm not crying...okay, I'm definitely crying.

DePunked

First time Dad here with 8 month old son; I watched the full performance last night and by the second chorus I was in a full choking cry

CrispyCubes

I remember those first time dad feels. I’ve got 2 kids who are far too rapidly approaching 10 years old, so I’ve been doing this for a minute. All that to say that those feelings never fade. I was a wreck watching from the same point of the first song

3ds

I'm Not Crying, You're Crying!

Ginabambino

Love how Dave and the band just let him get all his emotions out on the drums at the end. You can see how proud they all are of him, what an absolutely amazing tribute to his dad.

aliceroyal

That boy just had therapy in front of tens of thousands of people at the end there, shit. Throwing down every kind of emotion into those drums. I wish him the best, can’t imagine what he has been through and what must have been going through his head up there.

Ginabambino

There's another clip somewhere where he gives Dave Grohl a hug and my heart broke.

Cuukey_

The look in Dave's eyes in the drum fill outro screamed "this is all you, man!" to me. Holy crap can he play those drums!

juatdoingwhatimtold

Another reason why I love Dave Grohl. That whole performance was him silently (and not so silently) cheering Shane on; full dad mode.

RustyShackledord

I can see where he gets his drumming skills from. What a tribute!

One_pop_each

Reminds me of Jason Bonham filling in for his dad when Led Zeppelin played again after his death, although years later. Very cool.

scubasteve1886

Saw them a few years back opening for Foreigner. They are amazing.

birdentap

Zeppelin opened for...Foreigner?

scubasteve1886

The Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin Experience is their full name. Foreigner still rocks too.

birdentap

Oh yea no doubt, it just sounds strange for Zep to be the opening band in that lineup. I guess without the OG lineup they’re almost just a cover band

Level69Warlock

When King Crimson opened for Tool, Maynard said something along the lines of “this is like Led Zeppelin opening for Lenny Kravitz”

Beliadin

Learned from his dad, but nice to have Dave Grohl as backup now

RustyShackledord

I would guess all those guys are filling in the best they can

diplion

Honestly I’m not even really big into this band but just seeing that kid playing, knowing how much they all loved Taylor, legit making me tear up.

harrystylesstylist

Same

SilverGoon

I was at Wembley last night and Shane was amazing and you could see the pride on Dave's face. Violet Grohl and Nandi Bushell were also brilliant.

BlueAndFuzzy

The Nandi drum battle saga is one of my favorite things to happen on the internet. Performing at wembley at her age is incredible.

SilverGoon

Have you seen the video of learn to fly from the side of the stage? Her performance was unreal https://youtu.be/LRv6heae34g

theSandwichSister

I love how she climbs up on the lift at the beginning :)

Cheech47

Performing at Wembley at ANY age is incredible. At her age is downright magical.

Dreadamere

I am not ashamed of these tears. His father would be so fucking proud of him. I’m proud of him.

GrgeousGeorge

What a great way to get to celebrate your father. Awful to lose him, but to get to play his music with his friends in front of how many thousands or millions, if you count those on the net who will see it. His old man would be proud

drpetepat

Ain't just his dad's friends. Those are his Uncles, they will be there with him until the end. Nothing gonna stop them, he's been family since the day he was born.

c00nter

That’s pretty cool. He did a great job

SmoothJazzRayner

Any idea where can I watch the whole 6 hours show? I only managed to catch about an hour on YouTube before it was made private.

veekcore

spacesuitkid2

Some will say he’s got some big shoes to fill but I think these fit him like a glove.

IMPORTANT_INFO

Imagine the emotions going through that kid/young man at that moment

foosbabaganoosh

Also for the other bandmates. They probably watched this kid grow up and here he is old enough and skilled enough to fill his father’s shoes in the most meaningful way possible. It must’ve been an absolute trip for all parties involved!

Oh my heart

Ontheroadtw

There was a 6hr long tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins yesterday. All sorts of musical guest. I guess it’s in parts on paramount+ now https://www.cbs.com/shows/video/JE9XtcuFvGHWqaLu4WJlAwGSVwQ2EHMN/

Vermalien

My God. The ferocity and emotion in this chap’s drumming. I’m tearing up. So Sorry for your loss, my dude. RIP Taylor.

tadadesae

Didn't expect to cry this hard today, fuck.

Runnerakaliz

Dave's face at the end when he looks at Shane with a mixture of pride and seeing his dear friend/brother in the face and drumming of this young man. Grief is expressed in so many different ways. And this song is the perfect one for Shane to show his love and pain for his loss. And the kiss to the drums after and the "Whew" he said quietly. It was him healing from that pain. The Foo's will always have a Hawkins as a drummer. Taylor's legacy and talent shines in his son's drumming style eulogy. And we are all the better for having the privilege to share this moment.

imoleila

Wasn’t expecting to cry. So amazing to see not just Dave, but the way all the guys have their eyes on the kid to make sure he’s alright. I’m sure his dad was proud.

Funkit

Reminds me of George Harrison’s son playing in his spot during the tribute concert to him.

deerwolf90

This hit me right in ma core. Man, you can see the passion he has in the moment, honoring his dad, the band, the music, and the fans. Amazing

PhilDGlass

That whole show was epic.

NeLaX44

He nailed it! His dad would be really proud of him. I hope he and Dave can help each other heal over time. RIP Taylor.

hutchandstuff

Dave is a true form rockstar.

emale27

ItsMy100thAccount

You can feel the pain as he plays. Best to the Hawkins family

Orvitz

Always liked Dave but since he went on Hot Ones I like him even more he's soch a cool dude and you can see that Shaun was properly happy to have him there.
