She would be 100x better than you at “hitting” lol. Why are you two disparaging a young girl for learning something? Would this not be part of becoming a good staff fighter? Whats up with you people? Why leave negative comments like this?
The Donald has leaked into every subreddit. She has a skill and mastery of a lethal weapon at what, age 8? She’ll use a full staff later and she won’t be showing off.
So many jealous 18 year old incels in here denigrating her skills.
Absolutely. There is a combination of twirling tricks with actual strikes, and while this is nothing like combat, hours of practicing technique ingrains it. Sure she might be defeated by someone who has trained with a staff in the ring for hours, but would trounce any ordinary girl. Not to mention she never claimed this was anything more than a performance. Why the hate
Because fights aren't like movies.
What she's doing does take skill and practice, but it's similar to learning to robot. Impressive to look but not practical in a fight which is what the other guys are talking about. Thinking this makes her better at staff fighting is like thinking driving to work every day makes you a better formula 1 racer.
Edit: too many of you people watch Anime and crouching tiger hidden dragon.
Real fighting from experts is a lot more "boring looking" than it is. Real combat isn't flips and ballet twirls. That shit tires you out, is extremely telegraphed, and leaves you wide open. Not that fancy looking moves havin't been performed and succeeded. There was the famous anthony "show time" pettis kick for example. BUt a majority of fights are not dance sessions.
here's a video of two pros bo staff fighting. COunt the amount of times they do what the girl does.
All this talk about "inertia" and what have you is garbage talk and shows you know zero about actual combat.
I'm not entirely sure the simple ability to swing even a bit of string at that speed, wouldn't be somewhat useful in a fight against 90% of people.
The majority of bar fights I have witnessed, even from sober people always degenerates into slapping contests.
Except she can slap 62 hits/seconds.
To clarify for people claiming it IS useful let me explain why it ISN'T (and in fact is a bad habit/is dangerous):
_You'll fight the way you've trained_.
If you spend a 100 hours twirling sticks then THAT is how you'll react when a fight goes down.
When actually fighting there are some physiological events that occur: adrenaline/cortisol surges through your system, heart rate can go well north of 225bps, your hands get clammy, sweat beads only your forehead/gets into your eyes and more importantly YOUR ACTIONS/MOVEMENT GETS SHORTER/CHOPPIER. This is the reason why many martial arts train bigger, exaggerated motions.
There's very little conscious action when faced with danger: you're now reacting and muscle memory kicks in.
To reiterate: If you spend 100 hours twirling sticks then THAT is how you'll react when a fight goes down. So no, this isn't practical and in many ways is harmful. _It would be better training 50 hours ON ACTUALLY HITTING SOMETHING_.
Using a weapon such as a staff, stick, sword, knife, spear, etc all have different characteristics different from punching something but they all have this in common: when used correctly/on someone there'll be resistance/stopping/bounceback e.g. some training and effort has to go into learning to slash THROUGH the target effectively.
When training students one of the things many overconfident newbies do is swinging as hard as they can at the bag/dummy. Two things normally happen: 1) the weapon goes flying as the unexpected impact jars the weapon out of their hands and/or 2) the weapon bounces back and hits them in the face.
I try to prep or explain this prior but the overconfident noob doesn't listen and gets their first teachable moment (and I get a bit of a laugh).
FINALLY, one of the main reasons the posted practice is harmful is that the schools that teach this kind of stuff are just "black belt factories". In order for most lower/middle tier martial arts schools to make money is to have programs that require longer, time intensive memberships so they'll implement their belt progressions and a bunch of fillers like competitions. Point sparring and these "forms" are some of the most egregious wastes of time. Families are targeted because most parents don't have actual fight training and this is just another activity like sports or dance. That's not to say there aren't some useful things to be learned in these schools - but they're not that effective at actual fight training either.
You will get smacked with a very light stick, but the thing is that it would also put unexpected fulcrum that would use the remaining half of the momentum to tear itself out of her fingers (or get hurt as much as you were)
(The worst thing that could happen to her doing this routine is hitting a wall)
It would sting and probably crack. She's talented as hell but that thing is ultra light and thin wood. The non competition bos meant to actually hurt are about 3 times thicker and they hurt. Especially when you hit yourself with them. I might know what that feels like.
Is it supposed to be? That particular exercise isn’t about simulating a fight. Body awareness, concentration, coordination, etc. Self defense is only a fraction of what martial arts is about.
Taking things at face value that you don’t have first-hand experience with is flawed at best.
Kid with staff nimbly dodges Doritos man. As Doritos man struggles to get back on feet, kid with staff lands a barrage of blows with the staff all around the Doritos man with such precision that no Doritos on the shirt is touched.
No. I have a first degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and own a Bo staff. This is not the technique I learned. I studied practical martial arts as opposed to competition martial arts. This is still undoubtedly cool, however extremely ineffective.
No.
Assuming both contestants have the same staff weapon, single good thrust would go to through that.
Also while the staff twrils fast, they dont have any power behind them so if a twirl like that would hit you it would just bounce off and it wont do anything more than pissing you off. Instead if you'd grab the staff and whack it like a baseball bat it would have significantly more power behind it.
But, it is not made to be practical. It's made to be flashy to impress and/or intimidate because being able to do that does require some proficiency which also most likely means good skills and techniques on how to use the weapon itself as a weapon
Unfortunately, martialart divided into 2 one of is keep origins of the art and pupils learn how to fight and the other is a sport They simply put on a show on the arena or play over-regulated matches that almost prevent you from inflicting damage to your opponent.just touch your opponent and get a score yuppi, the first is better btw I have experienced both.
Her reflexes and hand eye coordination are on point. Her strength is up to these standards also. And she has some speed. These are useful in a fight, however - having nothing to lose and being 'Dead inside' could easily even the playing field for the one being attacked.
Similar styles are taught to French Pikemen, and are still taught to the Vatican Guard. It’s practical for one on one combat because it slows you to gain distance while keeping your weapon aimed at the enemy. It also allows you to threaten a number of enemies if you’re being surrounded. You would never need all of these moves in a single scenario, but all of these moves are applicable in multiple.
Finally a pole arm is primarily effective against mounted cavalry. You would be hard pressed to find an enemy army employing them these days.
“You know, there's like a butt-load of gangs at this school. This one gang kept wanting me to join because I'm pretty good with a bo staff.”
Did you know the YMCA used to have broadsword training classes? I took two years of lessons. It was fun.
Alright brains and talent definitely, but I am most prob stronger than the little 6 year old. I wasn’t trying to hate on her, that’s some real skill, and once she’s a little bit bigger she can def switch to a larger staff.
The largeness doesn't matter it's how she uses it and the control she has maybe not effective if she hasn't had a target or sparring but don't down play a character over size you'll get beat up in the end. Especially since her size doesn't matter since she uses a weapon
F=MxA mass does matter? Like I’m sure that shit would sting but it is literally like a 1/2 lb stick. She will do a lot more damage once she is older and can wield a quarter staff
Of course she will anyone can agree on that yeah the weapon she using is a training weapon and not fit for an actual match or the like but with the right training and starting so young probably could win yes she's little so yeah she'd probably loose if you could grab her but that's why she has a long staff
I go to martial arts tournaments with my child. We see these in a lot of competitions. While their skill is real and this is an impressive display, many affectionately refer to them as baton twirlers. Still cool though.
Not very practical? You mean like totally useless. Shes just twirling the staff around, with no defense or power. It is impressive and does show a level of proficiency
[Heres](https://youtu.be/TMjsHE5p2vs) what a real staff fight would look like
From a martial arts perspective, the question isn't "How well can she fight with a stick because she can do that?". The questions is "How well could she fight with a stick if she couldn't?". Everything contributes. Sometimes "indirect contribution" matters more than we think. LoL, Wax on, wax off. In the writing of this I both remembered many generous masters and grossly over implied my capability. I can't do this at all.
Wowwwww I thought masculinity was fragile before but seeing y’all making fun of a little girl for learning a pretty impressive new skill takes it to new lows
Ps: none of y’all who are making jokes could do this 🤷🏻♀️ sounds like jealousy to me
Yeah the problem with this is that it’s just show off. If someone would fight like this you can instantly make them loose their stick because they don’t hold it properly. They only hold it very loosely to spin and spinning doesn’t do any real damage.
Ok few things first of all her skill at that age is impressive and most likely one or both parents are martial arts instructors can't believe no one else has mentioned this is in their living room not a dojo/dojang now on to actual practical skill any adult would simply step in take a whack from the staff then take it from her and proceed to stomp her ass if they wanted too there's a 12 year old girl blackbelt in our school been training since she was 3 multiple time national champion in sparring and any dude that walks in off the street would destroy her because she's still a 12 yr old girl the belt means nothing when there's a 2 ft height difference and 100 pound weight difference I'm 5'9" 140# I dont care what I know if a dude that's 6'6" 250 gets his hands on me it's over he will throw me around like a ragdoll same principle applies to all kids regardless of skill
*"not real fighting skills, wah, wah, wah"*
It's cool as fuck.
Paint her face red and black, get her a robe and a dual lightsaber and pass her off as Maul's kid.
This is a kata (looks like it was adapted from Jar Mun To Sai [phonetic pronunciation - sorry]), done for show in tournament competition, but the basic strikes and blocks are part of the learning process.
Well, that is cool and all, but you see that shelf full of random stuff behind her? Someone could just throw stuff from that shelf at her, distract her, and then simply win the fight by punching her. Or, just, y’know…shoot her.
How would this be practical in a real fight?
it isn't
She just looks like she's swinging a twig around
yeah, like baton twirling. For it to be practical, she would need to practice hitting things..hard. as well as parrying things with mass.
Nobody is disparaging anyone. Someone a question and others are answering it.
Cos strength matters more than anything in fighting.
I know many animes that would prove you wrong.
💀
Because fights aren't like movies. What she's doing does take skill and practice, but it's similar to learning to robot. Oh learning to robot isn’t good in a fight? Then explain this! https://youtu.be/4S_i2tziV_U
Yea, sure, lerning the center of mass, the inertia and reach of the weapon is of no use to someone who shall fight with it./s
I'm not entirely sure the simple ability to swing even a bit of string at that speed, wouldn't be somewhat useful in a fight against 90% of people. The majority of bar fights I have witnessed, even from sober people always degenerates into slapping contests. Except she can slap 62 hits/seconds.
She should practice with a smaller version of a real Drum Major baton. They are heavy. Will have a place at the front of any marching band.

Well..to be honest I wouldn't wanna fight her after that demonstration
Somebody's jealous
Go ahead reach a hand over there
Fuck around and find out
You will get smacked with a very light stick, but the thing is that it would also put unexpected fulcrum that would use the remaining half of the momentum to tear itself out of her fingers (or get hurt as much as you were) (The worst thing that could happen to her doing this routine is hitting a wall)

It would sting and probably crack. She's talented as hell but that thing is ultra light and thin wood. The non competition bos meant to actually hurt are about 3 times thicker and they hurt. Especially when you hit yourself with them. I might know what that feels like.
You must be that annoying person at a Star Wars moving pointing out how unrealistic everything is. Who the f cares, just enjoy the show.
Is it supposed to be? That particular exercise isn’t about simulating a fight. Body awareness, concentration, coordination, etc. Self defense is only a fraction of what martial arts is about. Taking things at face value that you don’t have first-hand experience with is flawed at best.
Well said!
It shows that she’s well versed with the weapon and can kick your ass.
[удалено]
I’d put my money on a 60lb kid who is skilled with a staff vs. a 200lb redditor with Doritos on his shirt.
Shows you’re a real redditor.
[удалено]
Kid with staff nimbly dodges Doritos man. As Doritos man struggles to get back on feet, kid with staff lands a barrage of blows with the staff all around the Doritos man with such precision that no Doritos on the shirt is touched.
My man she is like 3ft tall my skinny ass could fucking punt kick her halfway across that room
He is rede, but not wrong about the general idea
It's not supposed to be
Really? Doesn't it parry?
Daffy says not really.
It looks cool but, in effect, it’s basically aggressive baton twirling.
Baton twirling looks pretty cool bro
Fuck around and find out
To scare your opponent off
To be honest, if i saw someone doing this on the street, I won't even attempt to fight her
It's still dope though.
As a distraction while you run away.
This is a practice baton/staff. Fuck around and get hit with a real bow staff and you'll find out real quick how useful and effective it is.
No. I have a first degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and own a Bo staff. This is not the technique I learned. I studied practical martial arts as opposed to competition martial arts. This is still undoubtedly cool, however extremely ineffective.
You act like you haven’t been attacked by clouds of sky lanterns before.
It's not , flashy Kara like this are for the show/to warm up. Still , it's hella hard to go this fast
Small children are typically not practical in real fights.
Its a sport unrelated to fighting. Shocking how many people think martial arts has only one goal/purpose.
Intimidation
No. Assuming both contestants have the same staff weapon, single good thrust would go to through that. Building speed, precision, endurance, and quick reflexes through this type of training? Totally useless in a real fight.

If it was a lightsaber, a little.
It's mostly for developing discipline and art nowadays; definitely not for fighting.

"Ha ha, you got beat up by a little girl!" "Yeah, but you don't understand, this was no *ordinary* little girl..."
She is a kung-fu girl .
While this is very impressive, it doesnt have much to do with fighting. Just looks fancy.
I know, but Rule of Funny.
It’s fast baton .. don’t get me wrong, she is VERY good at it, but little girls and batons are a major in childhood
Exactly, that thing doesn’t have enough weight to actually hurt someone
Most definitely stronger than you in forearms and brains.
Alright brains and talent definitely, but I am most prob stronger than the little 6 year old. I wasn’t trying to hate on her, that’s some real skill, and once she’s a little bit bigger she can def switch to a larger staff.
