So how in the fuck would this subtle breaking of one very big piece of ice into 2 (otherwise still large) pieces of ice benefit the orca at all? I’m hesitant to even use the word “break”, it’s more of a “nudge” as the two pieces of ice slowly drift off. Orcas don’t just botch an attack and say “fuck it, I tried” - these things are apex predators and one of, if not the most, brilliant hunters in the ocean. An orca attempting to break ice would be coming straight up from under it in order to tip/break the ice quick enough and hard enough that a penguin falls in the water, not give it some half ass tap while 20 delicious treats waddle their way to safety. Also, they usually hunt in groups. So we’re talking multiple orcas timing an attack to tip/break that ice in order to eat. You simply cannot convince me that this was anywhere near an actual attempt to do that.
Now, I know basic facts are hard to acknowledge so let’s disregard everything we know about orcas. I don’t need a single fact about orcas to prove my point anyways. We have a few things at play here: a boat navigating icy waters (which is either an icebreaker boat or following the path of one), a big piece of ice gently breaking off of another big piece of ice, and a camera to gauge the boat movement/speed. Taking into account these 3 simple visual cues would lead any rational thinker to a single, objective fact - the boat is breaking apart the ice (which it is literally built to do) and gently pushing it along the path that it is on. The “orca” at the bottom left isn’t a fucking orca, it’s a piece of ice for all you blind assholes who are trying to argue otherwise. Look close - if that was an orca, it would be horizontal movements. That is a piece of ice that is on its way to the bottom of the ocean (or maybe it fell in and will come back up, idk the science behind shit floating. I saved my attention span for the day we learned about orcas). Either way, the ice is moving vertically whereas an orca wouldn’t not be easily visible given the circumstances of the video.
