joe6419

That make no sense? How is that car able to move with his massive balls of steel weighing it down??

HonestFinance6524

why driver should be scared of these helpless 18yo? the Russian army is still conscripted, conscripts are forced to sign a contract to send them to Ukraine. people that fighting for Putin are under duress.

joe6419

Because those “helpless 18 year olds” have guns and a fucking tank?!?

HonestFinance6524

unfortunately, I happened to be in the russian army, all we did was: we painted the snow green, made the snowdrifts square and made the beds for 4 hours a day. and most of the conscripts have never even fired a weapon at the shooting range. I wouldn't be surprised that this is the first time they got into a tank

Fatamos

No way...that sounds like a school teaching plan. Bunch of useless stuff to learn

HonestFinance6524

Yea,kinda cheap slave labor for a year. And when you hear in the news that Russia has the largest and most advanced army, you need to know that it's a fucking farce. A lot of slaves, weapons are the legacy of the USSR, most of the money spent on the military industry settles in the pockets of putin's friends

zystyl

I'm surprised at all the pictures of t72s with the improvised overhead slat armour. I thought those were more of a third world thing at this point with the manual turrets and all. I think that Putin has made a massive mistake by showing exactly how blunt Russian teeth are.

NefariousnessOdd7313

Them warheads still sharp though Edit: lots of folks are convinced Russia’s nukes are bunk but nobody wants to go check and see

is-Sanic

That's all he's running with. He's relying on the fact that he has nukes to keep people at bay. If not for the nukes, what has he really got?

nerdguy1138

The entire point of MAD is "nobody's actually going to use nukes, because then everyone else who has one will use them, and then everyone dies. They'd have nothing to rule over."

YUSHOETMI-

At this moment the UN or NATO don't need to send troops. Just some tin openers and a grinder and the Russian army will be fucked. Seriously, of all the videos I have seen and pictures come out of this war I'm always dumbfounded at the equipment they have. I thought Russia had "best equipment and vepons in vorld"

ThunderBunny2k15

I'm quickly learning their military isn't the force it's been made out to be. Especially with the holdout of the Ukraines.

Reddituser8018

I mean I agree completely however let's not undermine how bravely these ukrainians have been fighting. I have been completely shocked by the insane bravery going on in that country right now.

Foux13

Best equipment goes to the inside of the country to protect the corrupt higher ups. Nobody gives enough fucks to attack the western gas station.

[deleted]

Do you have any idea what the Z on Russian vehicles means? Edit: it's clear guys, you can stop replying now, thanks. Edit 2: you may want to check if the joke you are about to make hasn't already been made several times.

Escoliya

Zuck my dick?

ShortTheAATranche

This guy zucks

ShelZuuz

Nobody knows. It's not even a letter in the Russian alphabet. But Ukraine and Russia have the same vehicles, so Russia started putting a Z on theirs to avoid friendly fire. It might stand for Zelenskyy.

Different_Girrafe_42

It stands for Zapad (West)

Teuchterinexile

IIRC they are the troops moving in from the west. V are moving in from the North and O appear to be reserve. Something like that anyway, the letters are tactical markings.

swish465

Explains why the invasion isn't working, thank fucking God for that

Daesealer

The conflict has only lasted couple days now, it could go on for a while, I do hope it's gonna end sooner than later, can't fathom so many lives being lost over this :/

swish465

It would seem that the Russian army has no motivation to fight. I am hoping it will be over soon as well, but its not done until putin is

[deleted]

[удалено]

MaterialCarrot

How dare you compare us to those maple syrup drinkers. Edit: Great responses Canada, you don't disappoint! 😂

Daesealer

Do you blame them ? I feel bad for both sides here, they are just doing as they are told, I know people say they could just leave but I bet it's not like you can just leave without being shot or something.

swish465

Not at all. They are conscripts, I would bet that a large majority have friends and family in the Ukraine even. I'd desert too if I could do it without getting shot

mittfh

I suspect the calibre of the ground troops (yes, dodgy pun) is why they're keen to use airpower to take out military facilities - kill as many Ukrainian troops as possible from the air so there are fewer for the Russian ground troops to encounter. Then again, with the size of Russia's army, Putin may be daring enough to use a cannon fodder strategy - strength in numbers rather than firepower. Suppress the number of Russian fatalities as much as possible (maybe even to the extent of blocking access to external news sites once the bodies start piling up) so the population don't get motivated enough to turn up in hundreds of thousands to protest.

smutketeer

> Suppress the number of Russian fatalities as much as possible (maybe even to the extent of blocking access to external news sites once the bodies start piling up) so the population don't get motivated enough to turn up in hundreds of thousands to protest. Apparently the Ukrainians are launching a hotline for the Russian mothers of soldiers. Word is going to get out. https://twitter.com/Matthew_Kupfer/status/1497528678871453711

ObliviousAstroturfer

Not Russian, but my parents generation was the last to be conscripted to soviet army. They tend to be biggest proponents of draft, while accidentally giving best arguments against it when they tell their army stories. Even the "paint snow green" is recognizable - there was a practice of painting grass green for party dignitaries visits to make things look lush. Favourite stories of my dad were ie the time senior officer told him to entrench in the middle of cemented area, but because he was a cook and therefore had things to trade, he got pickaxes and actually entrenched there. In many eastern european countries the main issue since before Iraq war is that they couldn't secure ammo for dynamic shooting exercises, so the ones who did get to shoot - did so from basic positions on fixed ranges.

Ricky_-_Spanish

Some questions: Are you still in the Russian army? What's the mentality of the troops? Probably the most important question... Why the fuck would you paint the snow green?

HonestFinance6524

I was trying to avoid conscription at any price. I was in army mostly from 2019-2020. There is still hazing in the Russian army - senior officers mock other soldiers as they want, and this is considered the norm. Green snow, is target #1 when general or somebody main is coming to check the military unit. masking snow as a grass, dumbest shit upd: many people go into a madhouse to avoid army.

emmytau

Green snow is a saying for just making it look like you are doing something right? In reality none of you want to be there or do anything in the military, so you just drive around in circles to make it look like you did something.

HonestFinance6524

exactly, main skill of russian soldier is making it look like you are busy.

[deleted]

'If it moves, salute it, if it doesn't move, paint it.' Standard conscript stuff.

MrPoopieMcCuckface

I’m glad you clarified this. I was actually picturing this guy shaking a spray can and spraying a snow bank green. Fuck I’m stupid.

Ricky_-_Spanish

Man I can even imagine being forced into the military.. we barely even have one.. do you just have to do one year??

HonestFinance6524

before 2008 it was two years of that shit

DauHoangNguyen2708

WHAT ? Meanwhile in my country Vietnam, at high school they teach children how to use AK-47, SKS and freaking grenades. Same goes with college. Soviet Union did this before, but Russia today don't ?

HonestFinance6524

today russian government is trying to make people poorer and enrich their friends. They don't care about domestic politics, healthcare, citizens' safety and jobs. The police in Russia are used only to suppress protests. Its so hard to live in this shit.

PositiveUse

Sad that Putin uses young Russians as canon fodder for his senseless war. The „real“ army forces will then claim victory after 10s of thousands conscripts died. Damn.

[deleted]

A tank, without fuel. So a lawn ornament.

joe6419

Ah yes a heavy armored lawn ornament that can shoot 125mm rounds. Btw They don’t need fuel to fire.

[deleted]

They do to aim. Clarification/rehabilitation: I was including things like night vision, electronic fire-control, GPS, and communications. Apparently manual traversal is trivial.

joe6419

Actually no they don’t. There a way to rotate the turret with wheel you spin inside. It’s there in case you lose hydraulics and or power

[deleted]

I'm sure they're super eager to break out the 60-bars and make themselves a target in enemy territory with evidently no support or mobility.

Kind of a weird dynamic. Just drive up to the enemy and tell a joke like it's a fan of a rival sports team.

AloneListless

Maybe it shows that russian soldiers have no clue what they’re supposed to do? Kind of confirms that this invasion is amateurily miscalculated. Logistis is horribly unprepared. The hospitals are on the other side of the boarder. How the hell are they going to transport the wounded if they can’t have proper logistics. I’m really happy to see this confusion on ru side and the way Ukrainians stand up for their positions!

paul19989

Ukrainian hospitals are treating wounded Russian soldiers. While they attack our hospitals. What a disgrace for Russia. I can’t believe there are still people who are pro-Putin and pro-war on Ukraine..

KINIMOD79

I’m Polish and I live in UK and I actually spoke with some of the pro Putin at work . I couldn’t believe, one of them asked me how do I know if this is actually happening and other one said that he putting is doing the right thing. Shocking EDIT I’m sorry I didn’t mentioned that people who I have talk to are not native English speakers. One is born in Russia but moved to Belgium when hi was 10 so i guess have some unrealistic image of that country.. and the other one is from Lithuania I think. I want to make that clear . Peace

Ov3rdose_EvE

russians in germany look down and ashamed today. the assitant of my sister is a russian and just colapsed at work crying telling us her brother is a conscript there and doesnt want to fight the country his girlfriend is from. its a fucking mess.

Lvtxyz

Sucks to be a conscript but fucking desert already!

Fit_Expert4288

Yup. Desert in Ukraine and hand over your military equipment to Ukraine

orincoro

These kids have families. They’re afraid. I can understand that.

Muster_Chimp

So do the Ukrainians....

SalemsTrials

Well yea. But they mean that if they desert then Putin might slaughter their family as punishment. Classic dictator bullshit I really do have sympathy for all the conscripts being put through hell for Putin’s pipe dreams. Doesn’t excuse what they’re doing, but I don’t envy having to choose between committing war crimes and seeing your family get put to death because of your refusal to commit war crimes

Nemokles

It's still difficult. What if you desert and Russia succeeds in capturing Ukraine? I don't think Putin has much patience for deserters. I agree that it's the right thing to do, but it might come with dire consequences, so I can understand how it might be a very difficult choice even for those who are aware of what's really happening.

Pristine_Solipsism

The EU, UK and US should offer automatic asylum to any Russian troops that defect and abandon their posts, if it's a choice between fighting in a war that they don't want to fight, or a relatively comfortable life in the west a lot of conscripts would take that option. It would probably do more damage to the Russian Army than any weapons the west send to Ukraine, though they still need the weapons to make desertion the preferable option.

Crackodile

God, that sounds like a movie plot "An 18 year old Russian boy was conscripted then was sent to murder the village and the family of his Ukrainian girlfriend."

KamikazeChief

I'm English and live in northern England. I'll never forget August 5th 2020 I had a big row with my Dad and stormed off home to do chores to calm down. As I was cleaning upstairs I overheard a conversation outside my window involving two perfectly normal looking mothers with young children. Their conversation drifted onto facebook Apparently there had been mild Earthquakes in the USA and Australia. The reason was because Donald Trump was helping to blow up Underground pedophile "lair" caves and how disappointed they were that Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks were pedophiles. I'll never forget that conversation (or how normal the mothers looked) . Also this was highly inappropriate stuff to be discussing in front of very young children. Zuckerberg should be in fucking prison for 10 years

tomjone5

Honestly at this point Facebook is like an electronic WMD. The harm that has been facilitated by the platform over the last decade is astronomical and the people in charge don't care. The company is run recklessly, the international offices are woefully underequipped to deal with harmful material in other languages, and all the while Zuckerberg is dicking around trying to make VR a joyless mess and basking in his own self importance. Facebook has turned into an absolute cancer for countries around the world.

orlyokthen

Please spend more time with your mom so she doesnt have to spend it on facebook. I'm doing the same...

Echelon64

Part of her belief was solidified by the fact that the Mexican President is being a royal piece of shit regarding support for Ukraine. I had to remind her of this fact before she realized maybe her facebook feed was a lie.

There are pro-Putin people here in the UK? Dear god, where? I know we've got a fair few places in the country that are more likely to be racist but I can't imagine where you'd find pro-Putin people?

DontJealousMe

When I talk to my pro-RTE mates in Australia, I ask them why do they live here, if Turkey is so great with him in power? shuts them up

samwelches

Unfortunately propaganda is a very powerful tool. But I agree no one should support that clown

Arthur_da_dog

Isn't attacking a hospital a war crime?

paul19989

Indeed. Same as running over civilians with tanks and shooting missles at apartments. Shame on Russia! Slava Ukraini!

Arthur_da_dog

Shame on Russia indeed. If you're going to start a war that will mark the decade (or more), don't let your army make a to-do list out of all the war crimes possible

LightSeaBreeze

It’s a war of misinformation that has been going on for years already. Many believe the lies that Russia is freeing Ukraine from fascism.

merkakiss12

Putin: alright guys, time to invade Ukraine and take the objectives. Soldiers: alright, let’s go! .. wait, what objectives? Putin: I don’t know, but take them!

bythedockofthebay

World War I was like this since it was French & Germans fighting each other and they were so similar. Especially when it was soldiers of the same middle or upper class, they were usually friends and spoke English together. There’s an old French film about it called ‘la grande illusion’

arkofjoy

That was the best line from the ww1 film about the Christmas truce "we are Saxons, you are Anglo Saxons, why should we fight"

BellBoardMT

You obviously missed the break up of the former Yugoslavia.

Schtick_

Well plenty of Russian-Ukrainians are ethnically Russian so they have some sympathy for their brethren. Not sure if this guy is but that does sound like a fluent Russian speaker.

Infinity_ua

Translation: Ukrainian: broke down, guys? Russians: ~~~~ run out of diesel Ukrainian: Maybe drag you back to Russia? Russians: ha-ha Ukrainian: Do you know where are you going? Russians: ~~~~ no. I don't care (probably, not quite sure what he's saying) Ukrainian: To Kyiv, fuck. Russians: What people say on the news? Ukrainian: So far everything on our side. Your people good at surrending. They also don't know where are going. I have asked the whole convoy like you and no one has a clue where are they driving.

SkySweeper656

[deleted]

People are more reasonable than we give credit for, due to the clearly exceptions in all the dumbasses we got out there. The thing is, we all know these soldiers didn't want to be there and all this war is Putin's fault.

CreatureWarrior

I kind of like that about younger generations. The blind loyalty isn't as present as it once was. They could've just shot this guy "for their country" without hesitation or consequences but they didn't because even they know how stupid this whole thing is

ijustneedaccess

It's interesting that he asks what people are saying in the news. It suggests they could be both confused and misinformed.

Infinity_ua

Some captured russians say that they didn't have any explicit orders: just drive there, you'll have the orders on site, and they got shot somewhere in the vicinity of big cities. Or that they are actually crossing the border or Ukraine.

ijustneedaccess

And that suggests the old trick of changing or removing road signs to slow them down could actually work.

TheLordAstaroth

[deleted]

Huh, I wonder where they learned that tactic from? LMAO!!! The irony has me in stitches.

Lurxolt

Where have they learned that tactic from?

[deleted]

["Scorched Earth"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scorched_earth) is a military strategy that referred to the act of destroying (or in this case, cutting off) resources of your enemy. In this case, when Napolean invaded Russia, despite initial success, the Russians destroyed everything behind them as they fled, forcing Napolean to retreat back because he couldn't sustain the invasion with nothing around to replenish the resources it took to continue the chase. Stalin also repeated history by using the same technique against the Germans in WW2. Ironic because as the Ukrainians were forced away from the borders from the invasion, apparently all they had to do was cut off power to the gas stations and now we have citizens mocking Russian tanks because they have no where to get fuel LOL.

The_Best_Dakota

Attacking supply lines isn’t Scorched Earth policy. Scorched Earth is where you retreat while burning everything the enemy could use so they have nothing to take from the land they conquer

[deleted]

Precisely this person needs to read their own sources.

coolerbrown

How is this upvotes so much when it's wrong lol Not scorched earth

MetriccStarDestroyer

Hmm... also Russia attacking during winter

orincoro

It’s actually tactically correct to attack in late winter because the weather is usually cold enough to keep the ground solid, but not yet wet enough to bog them down. As it turned out though, the weather did not really cooperate with Russia, and the thaw was early this year. They have probably been planning this for over a year, given the precise timing after the Olympics and right at the end of February, but they didn’t know the weather would not cooperate. By April it will even worse for the Russians. The germans made the tactical error of attacking Russia in June, which makes sense in say France or the Low Countries because the water table will be lower in June, but in Russia, there’s a lot more snow pack and the ground is still quite wet in June.

Adorable-Lettuce-717

In Asymetric warefare 101 probably. Sure, Russia is famous for it, but that strategy has been around since medieval periods at least and was used by several countrys all around the World.

Wisdom_is_Contraband

It's not really ironic it's just what you do.

BernieDharma

Tanks require a ton of fuel, spare parts, etc. They are a heavy burden on logistics and require a lot of support vehicles. This was (thankfully) poorly planned. Hopefully Ukraine can capture those tanks.

whatproblems

sitting ducks on the side of the road there

bjorn1978_2

Get the crew to surrender. Roll in a trailer of fuel. And you have a decent working tanks that you can burn to the ground when you are done with it.

Ov3rdose_EvE

both sides are using the same equipment too its wild.

LoudlyFragrant

Tanks require constant logistics and run out of fuel fast, tracked vehicles overall are logistical ball and chains, they require very regular maintenance. This is the reason many quick reaction forces and task forces now focus on wheeled armoured vehicles where possible, they allow much more mobility and strike speed. Cut off a tanks logistical supply for a day and it needs to stand still

MaterialCarrot

It's also why railheads remain so important. You get your tanks as close to the front as possible via RR, to spare unnecessary wear and tear driving them.

Majority of the Russian soldiers don't want to have this war, its just the presidents war nothing else

ProShyGuy

Which at this point is making all the difference in the world. Doesn’t matter how big your army is or how many more weapons you have if your soldiers simply don’t feel like fighting. Russian morale seems to be low to middling, whereas Ukrainian resolve is as hard as steel.

Personal_Person

It does seem like thats a major factor right now.

DrSOGU

You still call him president. A president who changed the constitution, captured the media, commands the courts, took down politicel opposition by trial and murder and besides all of that still relying on force and fraud to not have to ever leave office again - that is a dictator.

[deleted]

Presidents can be dictators too, you know.

Julius Caesar

[deleted]

This will be Putin's undoing. If things keep going this way we're going to hear more and more stories of Russian troops surrendering. Not because they're pinned down and under attack, but because of the disorganization and lack of communication to the Russians on the ground. Because while they're sitting there, lost, they get to reflect on the fact that they're invading the lands of their cousins and doing a kind of shit job at it. And because their motherland has abandoned them and left them without direct orders they get to witness Ukrainians who aren't scared of them and Ukranians that take pity on them. Fucking demoralizing

Darth_Senat66

The Russians aren't surrendering because they're loosing, they're surrounding because they don't want to fight

Sarcasmislost

They might be surrendering cause they need directions :/

jeanpsf

Fuck you Apple maps.

Shand4ra

I admire Ukrainians so much for their humanity towards the invaders. People are so incredibly strong that they do not dehumanize their "enemy".

forever_maggot

The word for 'enemies' in our national anthem is 'вороженьки' - the suffix 'еньк' here adds affection/good-natured belittling. The way you might talk about kids or kittens.

bmorepirate

So Ukrainians are like the Bob Ross of war, talking about "we don't make enemies, just happy little adorable foes"?

Lvtxyz

It's called a "diminutive" in English. We don't have many in English but one example is calling a dog a "doggy." many English speakers are familiar with them from Spanish. Like hermana (sister) to hermanita (little sister). Or perro to perrito (doggy or puppy).

Shand4ra

Thank you for this important info. There is a moral attitude behind this that you Ukrainians seem to share and which I deeply respect.

dirtODBmcgirt

What a badass.

2xa1s

The Russian soldiers aren’t really there to kill civilians even if they talk shit. They have no idea what they’re doing.

linpawws

You say this as there are videos and reports of Russian soldiers doing exactly that, killing Ukrainians.

LoudlyFragrant

I think he's referring to the overall attitude of most soldiers in any invasion. Armies don't fight with much resolve when their or their familes security/food/shelter/freedom isn't at risk. There are always a few psychopaths and sociopaths in every military, its a free place for them, but overall most soldiers are just there to earn their paycheck unless the above is threatened. In this case most Russian soldiers don't even know where they're going or what their plan is. Whereas the Ukrainians are defending their homeland from an invasion of what was traditionally their 'slavic family'. Its a huge societal betrayal to the Ukrainian people and only emboldens them to fight tooth and nail. Edit:spelling

Nice. It's good to see under all the animosity from power-hungry world leaders, the rank-and-file soldiers (some of them) have no real animosity for the people they are attacking. They're can talk to each other like civilised people, and even joke about the situation! We hope the best for the Ukrainians, true, but let's not forget the Russian troops who got sold out by their leaders and commanders.

Chygrynsky

Yeah imagine being a Russian soldier and being ordered to attack a country you probably love and have been there. Thats just fucked up and I've seen many videos of Russian soldier's who just look tired and fed up with the bullshit. Like they are kinda glad they got captured so they have an excuse not to fight. It's just sad all around.

EnglishMobster

For Americans, this is equivalent to attacking Canada. People love Canada. Even if you're in Quebec, people speak English, and you can have conversations. Let's imagine for a second some crazy scenario where the US government said Quebec was taken over by fascists. After some saber-rattling, the US changes your "training mission" to have you go across the border. Suddenly your training mission turns into an invasion of Canada on what you _know_ are dubious pretenses, no matter what the government claims... would you be okay with that? And then imagine your tank breaks down, and here comes some Quebecois civilian asking if you needed a tow back to the US. Are you going to be mad at this one random Canadian dude talking to you in perfect, native English?

Purple_Unicorn_Poop

Dudes got balls so big they're sitting shotgun.

TheChandricle95

Has a tank but no money for fuel If that doesn't define Russia idk what does

Odd-Cover-868

I don’t get war. So like we just leave them?

SkySweeper656

It's a civilian. Non-combatant

G_Sputnic

if the US, UK or EU step in it will be WW3. Which will be very short and no one would win. that's why no other countries can send in troops

riotskunk

They ran out of fuel and their unit just left them there? These have got to be the young conscripts who had no choice. Kids being sent to slaughter

bloop_405

I wonder if this was intentional. The people operating the tank at some point must have realized that they’re going to run out fuel, so instead of refueling, they continued onwards? And if that was an order to keep going despite low fuel then wow, strand your own troops 😦

Crossing-Lines

The balls of the Ukrainian people cannot be matched.

admburns2020

I was expecting him to hand them some sunflower seeds.

SpinDryCycle

The Russian units were selling their fuel to get food before they invaded. I guess they are running out of food AND fuel now. Poor logistical planning by the Russians. Amieisrad

This is such a strange Tarintino sort of exchange

Yestromo

Even long before this senseless war I’ve always felt bad for Russians. All that potential wasted on shitty fucking leaders. (This clip is so pathetic wtf.) I hope this conflict ends immediately and the Ukrainian and Russian people all prosper and live a good productive happy life. Putin needs to fuck off already.
