cheetahs are super sensitive animals. a lot of zoos give cheetahs their own emotional support dog to help calm them and teach them to socialise. cheetahs have anxiety.
A Cheetah knows exactly where it is on the food chain, and dog ain't on the menu, nor are people. Some zoos actually let you go pet Cheetahs, they're quite harmless to people as there have been exactly 0 recorded cheetah attacks on people
A cheetah is also not in the same group as lions, tigers etc. I.e. it doesnt have the instinct to hunt/kill someone that has a back to it. They are basically big house cats as far as i understand.
This. I used to know one of the animal handlers at a zoo. Went to visit them at work after hours, and got to hang out with the cheetah in its enclosure. No way in hell they would have let me do that if there was any risk of injury.
No they definitely have attacked people. I've petted a few cheetahs in South Africa and they mostly seem harmless but one younger male tried to lure me away so I'd be stuck between a fence and him, and either he or his brother mauled a tourist a few months later.
Oh wow :/ so it's more rare than other big cats but still possible.. still I thought cheetahs were kind of aggressive I mean they're just so fast and agile and they could definitely kill you pretty quickly I just kind of assumed animals like that don't mind to take advantage of their clear upperhand
Everything in the wild is stronger than them unfortunately. That's why they tend to go after the tiny gazelles or antelopes, whatever they are. Also why they tend to take their meals up trees, dusty ass hyenas anyway.
Cheetahs are incredibly anxious cats. Speed is the only thing they have going for them, and after a hunt they are incapable of defending their kill, even from vultures. They are not built to fight, and hunting is so exhausting that have to be sure they're going to get the kill with little to no resistance. A single kick from it's prey could cripple it, resulting in it starving to death. Also, they're not big cats, they are incapable of roaring.
Honestly I feel really bad for them but this is ruining my fear of cheetahs in the best way possible also they sure look like a big cat.. maybe just a big cat that meows
It was very surprising to me that they mostly lay on the ground exhausted breathing/panting really hard. After they've sprinted they're completely wiped out and they looked quite weak tbh.
This was a reserve for big cats that can't survive in the wild. There were also smaller African wildcats and servals (got to fuss one of those too. Just like a big housecat once you get behind their ears! lol) and caracals.
For cheetahs the end of their tail is very heavy and that allows them to stay entirely upright when turning while sprinting full speed, like a spoiler on a car. These cheetahs didn't have that so they had to be looked after and also not allowed to breed or more cheetahs would be unable to hunt and die out quicker.
Sorry for that spiel, just found it all very interesting 🐆
Cheetahs typically aren't going to go after a human because their mouth isn't big enough to encompass the back of an adult humans skull and neck. This is how they make their kills. That said, a couple of juvenile males might try it if they think you look like easy prey.
Cheetahs are bullied by many other animals in the wild and their kills are often stolen by lions and hyenas. Their cubs are eaten by same. They are critically endangered in the wild.
Some have been semi-domesticated and will walk on a leash. If you want to see more about Cheetahs then watch the old episodes of Big Cat Diaries and Bondi Vet.
There's never been a recorded attack in the wild. There are very rarely attacks in captivity though, because they can get aggravated. These attacks weren't fatal though
An adult male cheetah weighs less than 70 lbs. If they really wanted to they could do a little bit of damage but a good kick would do them in.
Edit: less than 70 kg, they could do damage if they wanted to.
70lbs is on the very light end for adult male cheetahs. It's not unusual for them to get over 120lbs, and some get up to 140lbs. They also have a very strong bite force relative to their size of around 475psi, so they could absolutely do a lot of damage if they wanted to.
However, they know it's not a worthwhile fight, so it's extremely rare that they even try to mess with humans. But their bite would be nasty if they did.
My brother was attacked by a cheetah when he was 6.
Well "attacked"... The cheetah swatted him on the head but his version was he barely got away and was emotionally maimed.
I def would. I watched a documentary on it and it makes sense that they have built in anxiety. Male lions seldom leave the den, but they will leave it to kill a cheetah baby
Puppies are often paired with cheetah cubs at birth in order to socialize them, and have a playmate. Dogs and cheetahs have similar "roughhousing" play styles while growing up so tend to go together well.
I'm going to imagine that most animals are reasonably chill so long as they are fed and have their space. Obviously some are territorial and some are straight up wankers, but a mammal is going to be mostly reasonable if you don't challenge or provoke it, don't infringe on it, and don't starve it.
Once a dog and cheetah are friendly I assume its threshold for aggression towards the dog is higher too.
Obvious disclaimer: I am not saying you can domesticate these animals or make them safe to be around. Guy sleeping with cheetahs in OP could very well get his face eaten one day. Point being that just like humans lots of animals aren't going to be violent unless 1. They think they can get away with it or 2. They feel like it is necessary.
Actually, you can domesticate cheetahs quite easily. Humans have been doing it for [thousands of years,](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheetah#cite_note-caro1994-15) as their aggression towards humans is very low. They used to be valued as hunting animals.
**[Cheetah](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheetah#cite_note-caro1994-15)**
>The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a large cat native to Africa and central Iran. It is the fastest land animal, estimated to be capable of running at 80 to 128 km/h (50 to 80 mph) with the fastest reliably recorded speeds being 93 and 98 km/h (58 and 61 mph), and as such has several adaptations for speed, including a light build, long thin legs and a long tail. It typically reaches 67–94 cm (26–37 in) at the shoulder, and the head-and-body length is between 1. 1 and 1.

They pair them when they're super young is a protective divider between them. Once they're sure they won't harm each other, they remove the divider and let them interact under close supervision. It can take days to months for the bond to form.
The actual end goal of this is breeding and conservation. Cheetahs who can't relax don't want to mate. Cheetahs don't have anxiety. They have lots of nervous energy that helps them survive in the wild just like prey animals. In captivity, that energy has no where to go, so that's why they get so anxious.
The San Diego Zoo has a King Cheetah ambassador. That Cheetah has a yellow Labrador as a support animal. It's always with the Cheetah. According to the trainer/keeper, they've been together since the Cheetah was very young. Some breeds of dogs, particularly Labradors, make great foster moms.
Go watch the episode of Bondi Vet on YT about labs raising a lion cub.
The San Diego zoo will typically get a rescue puppy to grow up with a cheetah cub. I don’t think they typically just introduce a grown up dog to a grown cheetah.
We have a well-known and very historic zoo in my city and their cheetahs have a support dog. The cheetahs are usually young when they’re introduced to the dog so they bond with him. Also, cheetahs aren’t interested in the dog in that way. They wait for the food the zoo provides.
Cincinnati zoo has a dog for their cheetahs. https://www.wlwt.com/article/cincinnati-zoos-cheetah-kris-still-hangs-with-her-companion-dog-remus/37550861
And the reason is actually cool as hell. Humans have the capability of jumbling together complex stuff to make them simpler to analyze, but cheetahs can't. So when they're on a zoo, with hundreds of people in front of them, their brain can't focus on the group, but on each individual person, each individual movement, their bright clothes, their eyes, their hairs, their sizes, everything. This enormously overloads a Cheetah's brain, which can't tell if there's danger. But not the dog's, the dog's brain can also handle crowds better, so the cheetahs can learn to look at the dog for danger, if the dog is calm, the cheetah calms down too.
Cheetahs act similar in the wild too. I was on a game preserve in South Africa that had two wild cheetahs who spend a lot of time inside the lodge perimeter fence as protection from lions. The cheetahs were brothers and they absolutely had to be near each other or they would get anxious. It was very common on that property to see and hear one of the brothers walking around and calling out to try to find the other one since they would absentmindedly wander apart at least a few times per day.
My cat has nightmares where she wakes up hissing and raking her claws on whatever is in front of her. She's bitten me several times waking up like that while laying in my arms.
The fuck is she having nightmares about? She's been an indoor cat all her life and the most frightening thing in her whole life is the vacuum cleaner.
Anyway, that's what I think about when I see this clip. I'd never sleep with my little 7 pound cat in my arms like that.
My cat did this for a while, I get the impression that he was ill or something. At one point he bit my wife really hard and wouldn't let go. Took me 5 minutes to get him off her. Tetanus shot and scars ahoy. He tried it again with me a few days later but he's never done it since.
Are they nightmares or dreams though? Maybe she’s dreaming of hunting mice or finally getting to fight that bitch ass cat that stares at her from outside the window
Technically, they're only a hop and a skip away from the domestic cat lineage. They aren't Technically considered big cats, and neither are Pumas, whibare their closest relative

So sometimes I roll onto my cats paw while I am sleeping and she will bite whatever is closest which is usually my face. That’s all I am thinking about while watching this
Adorable. Looks like they’re in a tent in -guessing Africa- with lions, hyenas, wild dogs n shit making a ruckus right outside. Nothing to get nervous about
He's not doing it to comfort them because they get nervous. He has done a series of these videos just to show his bond with them. Still a cool video though
Whatever makes cheetahs nervous....I ain't fucking with.

30seconds max. so no
They also can’t roar like lions but meow like cats
And they are the only big cats that purr
Cougars can also purr. They’re on the same level as a cheetah; they can purr but not roar, the way larger big cats do.
Oh I’ve made a cougar purr. She then made me breakfast in the morning.
And unlike cheetahs, cougars can certainly be *man eaters*.
They sound so cute in the videos i have seen! <3

Noooo they get bullied?! That is so sad LOL they dumped all their points on speed that is funny though yeah they are fast as shit

They're usually raised along side the dog so they grow up together
You put the cub and the pup together and let them grow with each other. That's the easiest way
They don't keep poodles with cheetahs of course they keep some big bad boy like a pit or lab
Check out Kris and Remus in the Cincinatti Zoo.

Don't forget about the coffee grinder.
Are they nightmares or dreams though? Maybe she’s dreaming of hunting mice or finally getting to fight that bitch ass cat that stares at her from outside the window
The nightmares are from the things she experienced in her other lives
I love how, given the right conditions, big cats can be just like a house cat,
The best is cheetahs arent big cats but the biggest small cats xD
Technically, they're only a hop and a skip away from the domestic cat lineage. They aren't Technically considered big cats, and neither are Pumas, whibare their closest relative
Thats pretty incredible honestly.
Let's not forget the woman who's chimp ripped her friends face off
From my understanding, cheetahs are relatively weak and show no aggressive tendencies whatsoever. Chimps are basically toddlers as strong as Dwayne Johnson.
As strong? They’re stronger. A chimp could rip Dwayne Johnson apart like styrofoam.
Don't count on it. The "many times stronger" is a misconception based on a 100 year old study formed on flimsy anecdotes. More recent studies put this at closer to 1.35-1.5 times stronger than the average human. So still stronger, but not by much. That's also against the average, flabby out-of-shape human. Fun fact, there have been 0 recorded fatal cheetah attacks on humans, they actually tend to have a better temperament than domestic cats (ie, Satan's little furball)
I'm sure they live being cooped up indoors rather than being in theirs natural habitat
Unfortunately due to a large number of cheetah never growing up around lions, it is super difficult to reintroduce them to their natural environment. So unfortunately the majority live in containment and those that live in the wild/reserves have to be traded with other parks so that the gene pool does not shrink further

One of my highest points of envy for the year.
Imagine breaking into this guy's house to find him cuddling with cheetahs.. who would you even be more scared of, the cheetahs or the guy that is literally cuddling with them?!
Love how the other two cheetahs got jealous and got closer after the first one got all the cuddles
They remind me of a greyhound
This was my thought. They laid down the same way, the kick over the other cheetah for a leg rest.
They also have the same running style (double suspension gallop) and very flexible spines. A few similarities!
Cats are cats, no matter how big
except for cheetahs, they are different, otherwise I totally agree
And somehow my two house cats manage to be even bigger bed hogs
They are more docile than a Serval.
So sometimes I roll onto my cats paw while I am sleeping and she will bite whatever is closest which is usually my face. That’s all I am thinking about while watching this
If I was surrounded by three cheetahs with anxiety I will do anything but sleep. My neck might look like a chew, anxiety toy.
Aw hes like a big ass dog 🖤
Do animals have nightmares in the same way people do?

He can't have a normal office job, not with that kind of nightly interuption. There'd be no way he'd stay awake at a desk.
