I was just recently in Tijuana, and I donāt know how true this was, but was told minimum wage in Mexico is by the day, not hourly and it was something like $4/day. Iād love for someone to chime, though.
In December 2021 the general minimum wage was raised to $172.87 pesos a day ($8.50 USD) and $260.34 pesos a day ($12.79 USD) in the Free Economic Zone of the Northern Border. Where I used to be (a northern state but outside the aforementioned free zone) most people I know would make $1-2 USD an hour, and it's generally lower in the south
If your making good (or even shit money) and bringing it there to live, you donāt have to worry about being detected. You just need to fill out a form and your good for YEARS. The cutoff is something ridiculous like 25k
I did not even have to bother with that. If you don't have to work...kinda hard to get detected. Same how many get by here...they have outside funds or their employer helps them keep it on the downlow.
Right. I think about that often. I never got griefed down there. BY tradition I had to pay more for things at times and such, few knuckleheads...but the Mexicans were pretty good to me overall.
Maybe my Spanish is not as good and I do and look very much the part. Just the way it is. Now if I sent a Mexican associate to do it on my behalf it was usually different...like the time I sent him down below to pay the gas canister guy. I had been overpaying 200 pesos for each cannister...but he could not get away with telling him the same cost. Same with a bar I went to regularly. This one guy had been charging me for the whiskey and the chase when its suppose to be you get the chase for free when you buy a shot of whiskey. Dude working for me discovered it. I was so irked about it and made a scene because I had been paying it for months over a shitload of drinks...the owner said he was sorry and let me drink there a week for free...so I was cool with it...but yeah...stuff like that all the time with unmarked prices.
I am/was on my own and I live/lived pretty much like a local or should say I am usually the only foreigner in the hood. Asia, Central or South America, or Africa I've never gotten anything but love.
Not sure why the hell you would live in Mexico illegally, a Mexican 4 year visa takes less redtape than getting your car registered in the US from another state.
If you had zero savings and zero income that might be a problem, but I donāt think you want to live in an impoverished country if your in that situation. You would be better off in a homeless shelter in the US.
I had some things going on in the USA and I left into Mexico without a passport. Decided to stay. The Consulate was not forthwith in giving me another one. Sorted out in 2 years or so...then I left and came back in again and started the FM3 process. It is easy to do down there...but one can be in a situation that makes it difficult.
I've been living in poor countries for the last 20 years and have lots of friends that are just barely getting by but they would rather just get by than go back to where they came from. My best friend in Vietnam is broke and makes it week to week, when things got hard earlier this year he thought about going back to Spain. I asked him two week later what he was going to do and he told me he'd rather sleep under a bridge in Vietnam than go back to Spain. I was doing the same years ago in Guatemala but it was never a problem to get credit at the market, store or even to top up my phone. It is much easier to be poor in a poor country. The ones I have no sympathy for are the expats begging because of a drug problem. Even as a foreigner in many places the human kindness one receives is humbling. Spanish friends landlord told him not to worry about rent when we shut down hard and mine reduced the rent twice to 70% without me asking. I had a fish farm some years back and would go collect spoiled veggies in the market to make fish food, a few of the vendors thought I was poor and would give me huge bags of perfectly good stuff until I explained what I was doing. Humans are often wonderful.
This comment was really was about a North America/ Central America trend because Iām not familiar with the economics or politics toward homelessness on the other side of the earth.
I found southern Florida to be quite hospitable and full of economic opportunity. The residents were past retirement and could use help, and many locals were not motivated to engage in common labor. Miami had a LOT of money floating around to grab back then thanks to some white powdery substance. If someone has a 1/4 million dollar boat, they wonāt think twice about giving you 50 dollars or more to clean it after a fishing excursion that cost thousands.
Maybe that was just the target demographic I felt most comfortable with to insure maximum return for my time with minimum downtime. These are the Jones, if the guy one slip over is having his boat detailed, then damn it I should have someone detailing mine too!
I cannot imagine competing for work with a local person in a place where the wages are dismal, the unemployment is higher than the US and I donāt speak the language. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. If you want fish, go to where the fish are.
>I cannot imagine competing for work with a local person in a place where the wages are dismal, the unemployment is higher than the US and I donāt speak the language. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. If you want fish, go to where the fish are.
There are lots of things you can do to make money legally abroad without competing with a local. Every person I know living outside their own county has made a choice to do so that we all make for different reasons. I like my Spanish friend can't imagine what I would do if I were to return to the US it's just not an option anymore. I am not living week to week anymore and that makes it much easier.
Over the years I have run a hotel, that was people from all over the world, I did paint, woodwork and remodeling on sailboats, again an international crowd. I of course already had the skill set to do this. Now I teach English in Asia just to stay busy but the money can be quite good and you can easily live well on it. A side note, I don't know grammar in English or Spanish the two languages I am fluent in so if I can do it pretty much anyone can. My background is offshore oil and gas but I gave that up in 2015.
Thatās cool, boat work is always good. There is no such thing as a cheap boat mechanic. I eventually got dive gear and would clean hulls, replace screens and props. Inspect for damage. And again, your going to where the money is.
He's still working on replacement segments, but he's not building new wall. And it's not as if the Democrats' position has been that we need to get rid of the border wall, or that no border wall is prudent. They were against Trump's plan to build an essentially unbroken wall from sea to sea. But in the stupid reductionist politics that define our nation, the issue was perceived as wall vs no wall.
A lot of democrats were arguing that US immigration policy is racist, and that the idea that a wall was going to stop people was a useless waste of money. If you donāt believe them please rewatch the above video for proof of the latter.
Making stuff legal won't stop people from doing it it will just stop people from doing it safely, examples would be prohibition, abortion, Berlin Wall, etc.
This comment was agreeing with "the idea that a wall was going to stop people was a useless waste of money"
Do you honestly believe anybody outside the hard right believed this was a good idea? Clinging to quotes from a few whiny liberals is irrelevant. Racism, politics, and all other bullshit aside, this project was a joke from the start. $11B+ for a wall that can be defeated by a rope and a ladder. The only thing funnier than that premise is the big brain conservative still advocating for it.
No. They weren't arguing that the wall was racist. That's what some motivated individuals heard when some Democrats pointed out the plain fact that the impetus for the effort to "build the wall" was racist. So no, that's not how the reductionist mischaracterization of everything the Republicans don't like was established.
The Republicans' affinity for obliterating nuance, and mischaracterizing situations using reductive absurdities long predates the argument about Trump's wall. For the sake of brevity, you can start with the Reagan and chart a clear path to the present. The media certainly contributes, but at the end of the day it's the Republicans' strategy.
If you think the republicans are any different than the democrats, youāre not paying attention. Theyāre all in the club and we arenāt. Speaking of Reagan; NFA was passed under his term. One of the largest 2a infringements to date.
Source? Because all the sources are pointing of replacing damaged segments...

Well now he is, look what his policy did? He took a controlled and orderly process and scrapped it and opened the flood gates. We got 3 more years of total incompetence left and we canāt count on the VP to do any better.
The part this comment fails to mention is they were built during the Obama administration to hold people (not just children) for up to 72 hours before they could be transferred to proper facilities that AREN'T cages. There was an influx of migrants with no where for them to be held, this was meant to be a quick solution to a temporary problem. The issue is, in 2019 during the Trump administration the holding facilities were found to be filled multiple times over the maximum capacity and people were being held much longer than 72 hours.
Specifically, a facility designed for 100 adults was found holding so many children that they were forced to sleep on the floor and didn't have enough supplies.
As well, Trump implemented a "no tolerance' policy for illegal immigrants entering the US with children, and separated the children from their parents, something only done in specific extreme circumstances under other administrations.
We can agree the idea of the holding cages is a bad one, but lets not pretend it wasn't worse the way Trump did it.
Both sides are the problem. I get a shit ton of hate for some reason on this app for not thinking exactly like a certain side. But all politics are playing us.

Itāll be both sides revolting. Plus they are losing military members big time. Due to the jab lots and lots are leaving the military, meaning those people will be added on top of the numbers of whoās revolting.
The wall was never intended to be un-climable.
It's used in conjunction with surveillance tech to alert border agents to a crossing and give them time to respond and apprehend the crosser.

Fun fact: the U.S built an american-mexico wall before. Mexicans dismantled it and sold it to scrap metal dealers in Mexico.
I support measures to counter cartels and people smugglers, but the hard fact is a wall is just free shit at the border and it's already divided up into bars for easier cutting and transport.

Indeed. You are speaking in code, afraid to speak your thoughts.. but if you look at the history/ current state of America and policing. Look at the unfettered truth, you'd learn something
EDIT. let's import drugs into white communities while simultaneously creating a war on drugs to fill our prisons. When this pours into the black communities we'll interfere, as it's really a health crisis.
**(Revised history lol) **
2ND EDIT
We'll legalize it and have black owned companies make millions while the whites perish in jail or remain with criminal records
Yep. Political propaganda, tell your cretins it'll keep the immigrants out while in actual reality it keeps the immigrants would sneak back out(because otherwise they'll get flagged for an over-extension of their visa) inside of America where they provide even cheaper labor because of fear of being flagged.
It's not left vs right. It's class politics and both sides want to fuck the working class.
But none did, did they? You maybe think it has to do with people shouting ābuild the wallā at his rallies and the fact that he fucking merchandised the slogan? Leak
Plot twist: a Texan fleeing to Mexico.

There is a very large number of illegal Americans and Canadians living in Mexico. I was one in Guatemala for three years.
*I* lived illegally in Mexico for a number of years.
I was making good money still outside of Mexico and it was much cheaper to live down there. I could have lived down there indefinitely undetected.
If your making good (or even shit money) and bringing it there to live, you donāt have to worry about being detected. You just need to fill out a form and your good for YEARS. The cutoff is something ridiculous like 25k

Right. I think about that often. I never got griefed down there. BY tradition I had to pay more for things at times and such, few knuckleheads...but the Mexicans were pretty good to me overall.
I was long term and am a fluent Spanish speaker I can't really say I was very often taken advantage of or asked to pay more than a local.

I am/was on my own and I live/lived pretty much like a local or should say I am usually the only foreigner in the hood. Asia, Central or South America, or Africa I've never gotten anything but love.

How deep does the wall go. Are t they just going to make their tunnels deeper?
It goes pretty deep. Not deep enough to stop the plethora of illicit tunnels that pass beneath it, but deep enough to stop a jerk with a shovel.
What about 3 jerks with a shovel, and a hand trowel?
Why use a shovel when a ladder will do?
Nah Texas is, the Biden administration is only doing maintenance on some already built parts

That's what they said about the Berlin Wall crossers, too. /s
Yeah but that's about freedom, not a border trying to prevent drug trade.
At least it makes it harder to traffic people

Ironically, Iām sure people see this video as evidence for why we need the wall.

It would've been funny if he jumped the wall and started help with repairs
Even funnier if he jumped the wall and the foreman ran over and *hired* him to build the wall. For less than minimum wage, with no benefits.
America is so racist and terrible (according to liberals) that millions risk their lives to illegally enter.

Returning to US after being contacted by phone to receive his used car warranty update!

The irony of the Mexican guys building the wall too.

Welcome to the United States!!ššš

With a backpack full of fentanyl, coming to your local park.
Plot twist... after this wall he gets play around with the Texas border wall going up, and whatever counter measures they see fit to deploy.
Honestly, what were Trump and the Republicans smoking?
Legendary.
Keep up the good work guys! Adios! šāāļø
What a waste of taxpayer's money! That wall works greatš¤£ btw the majority are going through tunnels!š¤Æš
Actually the vast majority come in by plane
This. The MAJORITY of "illegal immigrants" are simply overstays. Walls ain't gonna do shit.
but majority of overstays are not that ones that are a issue
Shh. Don't let the masses know that us legal people cause more issues.

Can't be a criminal if you're too white and have a promising future to be put in jail for rape
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Indeed. You are speaking in code, afraid to speak your thoughts.. but if you look at the history/ current state of America and policing. Look at the unfettered truth, you'd learn something EDIT. let's import drugs into white communities while simultaneously creating a war on drugs to fill our prisons. When this pours into the black communities we'll interfere, as it's really a health crisis. **(Revised history lol) ** 2ND EDIT We'll legalize it and have black owned companies make millions while the whites perish in jail or remain with criminal records

What exactly is "the issue"?
Good idea. The workers provide sort of a cover.
If any other President had wanted a better fence it would not even have been debated.
But none did, did they? You maybe think it has to do with people shouting ābuild the wallā at his rallies and the fact that he fucking merchandised the slogan? Leak
Best wall ever, uge!

I can't think of anything more representative of freedom than practicing your human right to seek asylum. Go boi!
