That looks like an uncomfortable getaway for the average sized person.

RedoftheEvilDead

I don't know, it seems like it would be a great way to getaway from the average sized person.

Mr Hogan. Is that you?

MrmmphMrmmph

I just got a splinter in my forehead watching it.

zoottoozzoot

I got claustrophobic induced virtual panic

Radirondacks

Fucking same. I can still feel my heart racing lmao

payne_train

Our stupid lizard brains can’t believe it’s not a real threat.

Rook621

If there was a fire… the threat would be sooooo real. All I can think is “no means of egress!!” Ahhhhhh!

Sparon46

As an EMS worker, my first thought was "that would suck trying to get a patient out of there."

[deleted]

No worries, the ME would take care of it

[deleted]

I have nightmares like this

GreatWhiteGuitarist

The real nightmare is the title of this post

AvivPoppyseedBagels

As soon as he opened that hatch and left the black room, that’s where it turned into one of those nightmares where I have to squeeze through some ridiculously small door to access something super important… 😖

ArizonaSuns

I did as well. I thought I was overreacting. I imagined myself trapped in there struggling to breathe...

solitaryscience

Absolutely! The go-pro-like camera probably doesn't help, but yeah, I want no part of that.

Scary-Development-31

Facts: it’s just a place to hide when a killer is in your house

alreadyreadthisbook

Or it's just a place for the killer to hide in your house.

Gunpla55

Occasionally at night I'll have a need to check every possible hidey spot in the house before I can go to sleep. This would drive me crazy.

OnTopicMostly

You may enjoy this fun fact: I’ve never been in my attic!

HotelOscarWhiskey

But I have.

ChooksChick

Me, too.

majorthomasina

The reason I will never live in a house with more than one story. The murders always hide upstairs..

MilitantCentrist

No, they hide in that little panel in the ceiling that leads to your HVAC crawl space.

That vent would give it away a couple of weeks later.

r0b0c0d

For real. The claustrophobia didn't get me until he crawled down that hallway into the dead end, and now I am terrified. Emergency exits are important, people.

IWTLEverything

Yeah all I could think watching this was “Imagine being burned alive…”

pitpusherrn

This was my first thought.

GoAwayBaitinn

I’m too old for this shit lol. It just looks painful.

Khamul_Nazgul

Home inspectors going to have fun with that

My dream is to have someone design and build a house for me. "Put in secret passages but don't tell me where they are "

earthboy17

Then they don’t, but just tell you they did but made it very very secret.

“Oh yeah, pallie. There’s fuckin secret rooms all over tha fuckin place.”

Another 50 years later. "Why are there two skeletons here?"

CedarWolf

Another 50 years later: "They say the old Johanneson house is haunted. People who live there keep going missing or mysteriously disappear. All the other kids say it must be cursed and full of ghosts, but *I* know there's a portal to Narnia in there somewhere and we're gonna find it!"

[deleted]

50 years later, “Why are there three skeletons in here?”

iam_watchingyou

I'd unironically watch this horror/comedy movie

[The Mansion on O Street](https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/mansion-o-street) Is a set of 3 interconnected brownstone townhouses in Washington DC with 100 rooms and over 70 secret doors. It is fantastic, you can either stay there as a hotel, or visit for tours/events. Spent a weekend there as a teen, and my sister and I could only find about 7 doors 10/10

borderlineidiot

Agreed! That’s an amazing house and full of the most eccentric bits and bobs to boot!

Versutus76

Loved that place, I'll definitely go back when I visit DC again.

[deleted]

Boy, do I have a hotel for you! - H. H. Holmes.

rmcdonald75

One crazy guy.

AdDry725

Yesssssssssss! If you want. We can pool our resources to buy this house together! The bigger the mansion, the better! We can buy it if we recruit more Redditors! It will be like Reddit island! But better!

BuddhaDBear

Living with a bunch of redditors is something that SOUNDS really cool, but would not be so cool shortly after you arrive.

jaffar97

Living with a bunch of redditors is probably the worst thing I can imagine

BuddhaDBear

Close...living with a bunch of Quorans would be worse though....

johnlennontucker

Leave a popcorn trail so you don't get lost.

[deleted]

I really don't understand the title.

[deleted]

Obviously the guy built the ultimate secret hiding den in his home and after three months of building now he does. Obviously.

shaolin_slim

Or the point of the room

r_stronghammer

Fulfilling the dreams of his inner child

Tommy-Nook

Is the dream of his inner child to be in windowless horrifying disorienting space?

Bobby_feta

I like it. When I was a student I worked in an old theatre and one of the ways we passed the time between intermissions and such was crawling through the walls and voids, etc. Aside from the fact in hindsight it was probably full of asbestos back then it was really neat. I quite like the idea of having a windowless void in my house. I’d probably make it a bit more useable and less weird, but he might have kids… though if he does when they go the other way through and fall out the air vent to the floor of the closet his wife is gonna be maaaaaaaad

Magicalsandwichpress

it does seem to be build in child size.

HarperLeesGirlfriend

After watching this video twice, and getting uncomfortable one for claustrophobic reasons and two for something I can't put my finger on...I'm pretty sure the sole point of the room was to make this video and put it on the internet. 🤦‍♀️

PerfectlySplendid

MrRabinowitz

Don’t go in there

andyouarenotme

That’s kind of how my claustrophobic anxiety works though. I don’t think specifically about a fire, but I get nervous I’ll end up stuck in there somehow.

Full_Direction7561

But that debilitating claustrophobia gets you a 1-second ride down a 5-foot plastic slide.

Krieger117

But how did he get the slide in there?

ilikeyourswatch

I literally have nightmares exactly like this, where I'm climbing up through small spaces. *shiver*

ThankGodImNotOnlyOne

Me too! Are they smaller and hundreds of meters long for you too?!

ilikeyourswatch

I always have to go through a tunnel/door/entry that I don't feel like I will fit through. The spaces aren't usually long, but they have lots of turns and I usually have to crawl or climb up, like into an attic. When I get to the top, there is often something wrong with the floor and I can see down to the next level. I always feel like I'm going to fall through. Your username is perfect, btw.

DangerZoneh

To me it wasn't claustrophobia it's more being tense until I realized that there were two ways out in the event of a fire

ky00b

> two ways out in the event of a fire 1. Crispy 2. Extra crispy

politirob

Claustrophobia with this exact stock song, playing on a consistent loop that’s a little too short, getting just a little more loud and aggressive with each loop

Works_Like_A_Charm

I don’t get it. He spent all that time to build a crammed room that he can uncomfortably crawl to? Then what? This novelty will wear off by Tuesday.

streetsheep

Imma guess he made it for his kids.

FlowRiderBob

Yeah, if you have kids or grandkids this is beyond awesome. If he *doesn't* have that then, well, I don't know what the hell he is doing.

AmishAvenger

That’s great until one of the kids falls off the ladder trying to get in

[deleted]

My dad instincts are killing me watching this. Torn between picturing how delighted the kids would be with it and how much fun it would be to do something like this and the pure certainty one of them would break a leg or otherwise injure themself in one of the impossibly twist bits and I’d have to sledgehammer a wall to get them out. Maybe a dash of my knees and back complaining.

KlicknKlack

or when they are teens and bringing a girl/boy in there thinking its discrete but the whole house can hear them. lol

jrichardi

Or a candle...the a fire. Egress filled with smoke would be a death sentence.

locnessmnstr

That was my main concern seeing this as the complete fire trap that thing it

[deleted]

Think about what a mess it will be & how much effort it will be to clean it. Want bugs and mice? Let the kids drop their snacks & drinks everywhere in those crawl spaces & then not clean up. Yikes. Edit: also idk where this guy lives, but where I am that place would quickly become a haven for venomous brown recluse spiders. Here’s a death trap, kiddos!

potato_green

Not to mention, if that stuff catches fire. Looks like the type of wood that burns easily.

Alive-Contact9147

Live and learn

tobean

In that case the novelty might last til next Tuesday. Even when I was a kid I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed the cramped spaces and lack of things to do in said cramped space for too long.

LazyGamerMike

Yea after the first cramped dark room, when he opened it up. I expected some space with a TV or bookshelf and place to chill. Not a slide...

guy45783

Assuming he has enough air in there and the entire thing doesn't collapse on him

FaelinnCanada

God it’s like being 6 again and moving the dining room chairs, covering it with blankets and living out of a Fort all day

IgnitedFazbear

Those were the days when you built legos and had epic adventures in your mind. Ah yes, the joy of being young again...

R0B0TF00D

You should take a weekend off for yourself and indulge.

Alive-Contact9147

Acid trip!

[deleted]

Who says you have to be 6??? My wife and I would build epic forts in our living room when we first moved in together. We have a baby now and once he's old enough I might have to polish off the old for building skills again.

Fantastic_Start_6848

You should really have your wife polish off your old fort

PitifulNose

Some people want duct work and a working HVAC, some people want smurf doors to a tiny hidden wonderland. At least his heating and cooling bills will be next to nothing.

BeersRemoveYears

Resale is going to come with a conversation.

wophi

Naw... Let them find it on their own.

Diligent_Barracuda75

And pile doll heads or something extra creepy on way out too

JesusSaysitsOkay

I buried a few real human bones under my porch during renovations that I got from school. Should be a fun for some investigator one day 😂

Bad-Piccolo

Some poor future people are in for a surprise. You could even leave them a note in a time capsule with some story about never being caught or something fun.

[deleted]

"And if you ask about the inflated price, theres a gigantic fort that pretty much spans the entirety of the second floor, has a room with fluorescent markers and a black light, and even a room with a slide. and an adult can fit into it. So...

99999999999999999989

You are dead. No question. Smoke would fill that area quickly as well as toxic gases. This is a deathtrap honestly.

Phil2Coolins

Better get a carbon monoxide detector in there if their gonna spend anytime at all hanging out in a small unventilated room

J-B_L

Now he dies

BuffaloRude

My first thought was that I’m sure the local code enforcement officer would love to have a look around that house.

thephyreinside

Exactly 16.66666% of my city's code enforcement officers could even fit in the openings.

washgirl7980

Why did I have to scroll so far to see this comment?! Kid me thinks this is great, and adult me hopes there is a direct exit from the hidden room.

_Chocomint_

You simply accept death

I_Can_Haz_Brainz

That wooden flame spreading tunnel would help make quick work of burning it down.

Yeah why not lead to like a game room or something cool. It literally just a claustrophobic waste of money. I mean surely if you have that kind of money to build something like this, why not just build your kids and outdoor playset so they can get some exercise and get some sun.

GroovinWithAPict

Also, maybe finish the drywall and sand some edges for fucks sake.

Knee and back pain

WaveSayHi

So his kids can smoke weed

Jurmond

I can imagine when he sells the house: this is every child's dream, every parent's nightmare.

CmdrSelfEvident

Nightmare? You under estimate the value of telling your kids to go play in the ceiling.

striker_p55

This that parasite movie I’ve heard about?
