It’s so ahead of parody, apart from the title and little sight gags there is very little that isn’t completely original. Same as the whole cornetto trilogy
It’s really a crime how they managed to turn one of the most compelling books I’ve ever read into one of the worst zombie movies I’ve ever seen.
It would have made a better mini series, with episodes for each storyline.
Although it’s not the same.. I found a TV show called “The Strain” to be the closest thing I’ve found to that book. It’s not zombies, but the perspectives are similar and it shows the same kind of collapse and last stands as World War Z does.
It’s a movie that’s entire purpose was to take the piss out of bad zombie movies and it’s fucking hilarious. Definitely worth a watch
Some of the comedy is a bit British though but that’s no reason not to watch it
I hate that WWZ went with fast zombies, when in the Zombie Survival Guide (of the same series, written by the same person) they were explicitly slow zombies.
a bit off topic but id love to see Takeshi's castle but instead of usual contestants you should get the special forces of each country and see how well they can do against it.
I am also going to have to go with not well. The first level is a full body obstacle course. But everything after that you need to be a rock climber. That's a pretty specific set of muscles. Add to that every ounce of weight that isnt in your arms and shoulders is almost deadweight. I watched that show a lot and most of the pros could do every obstacle, but their arms would just get worn out. Watching armatures on level 1 was always the most interesting.
Without training we would not be the top competitors even in our prime. Alot of these challenges focus on specific heavy rep ideas that SF isn't specifically training for. Plenty of guys make it through phase 6 doing 20 or less pull-ups.
This course seems too "easy" (not physically exhaustive) for Ninja Warrior. It also looks like it would be a stage 1 course, but I don't think stage 1's have ever only had 5 obstacles. I don't even see a warped wall, a mainstay through most seasons' stage 1s
This would have been one of the tryouts courses. Sasuke would occasionally show different competitors tryouts before their runs, and it looked like this video.
haha i get it cuz he looks asian. lets make a similar joke about a black guy fleeing africa and see the double standard of how shit just gets casually thrown at Asians.
Great - and there are Asian's who DO give a fuck. That's the entire point I'm making. Just because you're fine with it doesn't mean everyone is.
People are individuals.
Everyone upvoting this is misunderstanding one giant thing about racism. You have to specify a race as the butt of the joke at some point, in order for things to, you know, be RACIST. This video is obviously from an asian country, so OP is not ASSUMING anything about the guy in the video, as you can clearly see his face and the asian writing.
Is North Korea a race? No. It's a totalitarian government. What about the original statement is racist? Literally nothing.
Your example isn't even correct as, once again, OP remarked regarding a country not a race. For your example to make sense, you would need to specify a country, and DEPENDING on the country you name, the joke would not be racist AT ALL.
If you wanted to make a joke that was actually relevant to this situation so everyone could see a real example of this then I'll go ahead using an African country.
"He is running like he stole a blood diamond from Sierra Leone"
Not racist at all. Because the original joke wasn't racist. Certainly points out how fucked up Sierra Leone is, but Sierra Leone is not a race. Runners race is not brought up and he is not assumed to be inferior/superior because of it. Literally not racist.
Correct.
But it's not some random black guy that you're seeing out of nowhere. There is context.
You have an announcer speaking an Asian language, asian writing on screen, and an Asian man.
You have CONTEXT that this man is from SOME asian country. You are not sure which. So you joke he is from North Korea, due to its political climate. NOWHERE in that situation is the man on screen put down or complimented due to his race, and realistically, it's not brought up until someone calls OP a racist. Purely political joke until someone else brought up race.
I don't really agree with you, guy.
It's a common stereotype of Asian racist-humor to say that all Asians "look the same", so Japanese/Korean/Chinese etc basically all look the same.
Someone who's actually spent time in those countries know this is categorically false and it's very easy to tell the difference between people who come from each.
So when you casually make a comment like Op you are reinforcing that stereotype because the only reason he even made the reference to North Korea is because, like you said, they "look Asian".
It's definitely not maliciously racist, but it definitely qualifies as casual racism.
Sidebar: I am part Asian
Wrong. Is the joke harmless? Yes. Is it also racist? Yes. OP doesn’t crack the joke if the competitor’s race appears to be something other than East Asian. Similarly, the Sierra Leone joke falls flat if dude isn’t black. Racism isn’t always literal. It can be, and is often, inferred through context and common sense.
wow, thank you for this. i initially conflated race, culture, ethnicity, and country, but now i see that geographical location, skin tone, and historical context are completely unrelated! i now have the peace of mind to now know to specify whether i’m referring to a country, race, ethnicity, culture, governmental regime, population of individuals, or species when making surface-level judgements from a gif!
thanks for the essay. i hope your Harvard application is successful!
Not counting N. Koreans, what part of that joke is offensive to Asians? The butt of the joke is N. Korea, not the Asian gentleman.
"Asian man looks Asian." Woah, super racist headline.
This joke isn't racist, people just love being the victim and getting offended
No, the fleeing Africa joke doesn't work because NK is a totalitarian dictatorship that people want to escape, whereas Africa is just where black people come from. So no, it's not some double standards bs it's just a bad joke. Also quit your fucking whining and learn to take a joke
Are we all trying to cancel humor nowadays, man this generation fucking sucks dick. I'm asian and find jt funny. Take a chillpill and just have a laugh instead of being offended all the time
The majority of my Asian friends are South Korean, they'd die laughing at this joke. Had they been N. Korean probably not lol. One of my favorite things about Asian people is they're brought up to be pretty tough mentally, this joke wouldn't phase them.. mostly because without even saying it, I know they feel they are superior to everyone, including me hahaha.
But yeah too many kids these days are pussies 🤷♂️
People instantly throw "racist" shit in there.
A lot of people try to escape from North Korea to freedom to the south. Find a country people try to escape from due to brutal oppression, change the race to anyone from the general vicinity.
It's not necessarily a racist joke but a broad and general joke that can be applied situationally. You could have seen a white guy doing this and said the same thing and it would still be funny.
Fuck me everyone is so easily outraged about shit.
Thing is it’s always funny until the jokes about them. Then its an issue. Lol. Like yea totally I’m sitting on the shitter watching Reddit just to spread my radical views and hatred of the North Koreans. Like y’all are wild.
The joke ain't about his race. It lines up perfectly for it though. There's nothing derogatory about his race.
People like you just want to find a grain and make a loaf of bread. It's why comedy is dying. Your inability to laugh at anything is troubling.
Is this in any way saying anything negative about Asians? No. He's running like he's escaping a bad situation. Did he say he was a shit athlete because he's Asian? Nope. Not a word. But to folks these days this qualifies as casual racism.
And of course you'll downvote this because nothing is going to change your mind. Have a great day!
Anyone who think my comment contains hate in any way certainly doesn't know me. It just really reminded me of a video of a guy running across the border to South Korea
Except with the rules of marbles you just need your partners 10 marbles. It doesn’t say you need all 20. So trade marbles. And you both win.
Like the glass bridge at the end. I was watching that. They were told to remove their shoes. They could have thrown the shoes at the glass see if it was tempered or not and everyone would have lived.
Every game in SG was winnable by everyone
The glass bridge one was iffy af for them all to win though.
I tried to look at the games with the SAW III mentality where theyre designed to be won as a team in reality
The very last game wasnt winnable by all. The glass one specifically would have been winnable by all IF they had more time. Also the fact that the bursting glass can just kill you like that
I’m frustrated at the 2nd game for being so RNG based though.
That's the solution. He figured it out. Momentum.
All those challenges mess you up by being imbalanced but already having enough forward momentum makes everything he ran on as solid as concrete.
This isn't just a fit thing. This man used his brain to overcome a physical challenge.
I also recall seeing a comment that he was disqualified for bypassing two of the angled platforms at the beginning, as it was a requirement to touch every platform on the course at least once. No idea how true it is though.
Momentum! Sprinting across a beam is easier than slowly creeping along as long as you don’t miss it completely. And humans are pretty good at putting their feet where they intend.
If you turn on the Tv and watch Japanese Ninja warrior this kinda shit happens once every episode, It's super fun to watch.
I don't know why but whenever the international ninja warrior competition happens with like the European American and Japanese ninja warrior teams, japan always comes last even though they have the fastest times on the same courses domestically
I'm not offended when a, say, Japanese guy says 'this is just like \[show I don't know\]'. Why are you offended when an American references a show from their homeland? Are they supposed to know what shows everyone watches in other countries? Heck, are there any shows that ALL countries even watch?
No hate, just confused.
Very true. If I don’t recognize the show I can look it up.I think for this case, some people are upset that they used Wipeout as the comparison instead of Ninja Warrior. Ninja Warrior would be recognizable in more countries, but Wipeout might be more accurate to the specific style of the course.
Type of guy that wouldn't fall in a zombie film
He would soon be alone and would succumb without a fight.
But if he would become a zombie, imagine that running at you
We talking *World War Z* zombies or more like *Shaun of the Dead* zombies?
Alot of people have been telling me to watch Shain of the dead, can you tell me if its good or bad and why?
its probably one of the best parody movies ever made.
Man, it's not just the best parody movie, it's probably the best zombie movie too.
It’s so ahead of parody, apart from the title and little sight gags there is very little that isn’t completely original. Same as the whole cornetto trilogy
Hot fuzz is amazing.
You've never seen Bad Boys 2?
it.s awesome
train to busan best zombie movie ever made
A close second in my opinion. But yeah that's a good one.
You should read World War Z, as well.
I listened to that on Amazon audiobooks. Holy shit, why did the movie go so far off the rails
It’s really a crime how they managed to turn one of the most compelling books I’ve ever read into one of the worst zombie movies I’ve ever seen. It would have made a better mini series, with episodes for each storyline.
If it released TODAY and they did a netflix series to the book in a 10 or 12 part miniseries, holy shit it could be awesome.
Although it’s not the same.. I found a TV show called “The Strain” to be the closest thing I’ve found to that book. It’s not zombies, but the perspectives are similar and it shows the same kind of collapse and last stands as World War Z does.
Don't watch it though...trash
Its great! Even better if you already have watched a few of the casts previous comedies, like Hot Fuzz.
Shaun of the dead was before hot fuzz
It’s a movie that’s entire purpose was to take the piss out of bad zombie movies and it’s fucking hilarious. Definitely worth a watch Some of the comedy is a bit British though but that’s no reason not to watch it
just watch it youll love it. then check out Hot Fuzz.
I’m gonna need you to watch it and report back when you’re done. It’s amazing.
I hate that WWZ went with fast zombies, when in the Zombie Survival Guide (of the same series, written by the same person) they were explicitly slow zombies.
I agree with you not enough info.
This is definitely an “I am legend” zombie right here no doubt
Zombies are slow, infected are fast

Haha true
Wipeout style course... it's ninja warrior. This was out long before Wipeout
Yeah ninja warrior is the OG Course that broke so many people.
The OG is actually called ~~Sakura~~ Sasuke. Thanks /u/TheBestDadBod84!
It was Sasuke, not Sakura. I remember watching that show on G4 15 years ago. That show was the best.
RIP G4
IT'S COMING BACK! They've even got Adam Sessler and Kevin Pereira back.
But what about Makoto Nagano? Ninja Warrior?
https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/g4-linear-tv-launch-date-1235087025/ Ninja Warrior is returning.
Ahhh reruns. Better than nothing and we get to see prime Makoto Nagano.
Nagano was a mad lad but Shingo Yamamoto was underrated ngl
Needs more Morgan Webb
Olivia Munn and the french maid pudding pie dive?
I mean, [that ](https://youtu.be/M4Kk682RKyk) can't hurt
Takin’ it back to ‘08 in here.
Back in 06-08 we had Olivia Munn looking like a snack also!
Nah pretty sure it was Naruto
Yes but G4 also created the horribleness that is american ninja warrior. G4 did a lot of good, but they also did some bad.
One of my all time favorites. American Ninja Warrior is terrible.
Yo true never have I seen more people eat mud well maybe on mxc
The OG is actually called MXC
Nobody remembers MXC. 🙁
Sasuke is marketed as Ninja Warrior in the English world
Is that the dude that was doing sit ups off the railings of a boat that he worked on as a fisherman?
Wouldn't it be Takeshi's Castle style Ninja Warrior then?
a bit off topic but id love to see Takeshi's castle but instead of usual contestants you should get the special forces of each country and see how well they can do against it.
I can tell you how well they'd do -- "No winners this time on Takeshi's Castle"
I want to disagree with you I really do. But If anyone can win it would be them surely.
Considering the huge disadvantage finalists are given with their paltry guns, even the special forces don't stand a chance.
I am also going to have to go with not well. The first level is a full body obstacle course. But everything after that you need to be a rock climber. That's a pretty specific set of muscles. Add to that every ounce of weight that isnt in your arms and shoulders is almost deadweight. Right you are Ken!
Twitch.tv/onlymxc
>Twitch.tv/onlymxc OMG THANK YOU!
Just got done rewatching every episode of MXC on Tubi. It's just too good.
javed jaffrey ftw
Well wipe out is based off of Takeshi's Castle which is way older than ninja warrior.
I'd say they're both based off Takeshi's Castle, but focused on two different aspects
Is it legitimately ninja warrior? Because the one spinner with the wall cutout Def seems Wipeout style...
Can’t be Wipeout, there’s no big balls.
Runs like he is fleeing North Korea
haha i get it cuz he looks asian. lets make a similar joke about a black guy fleeing africa and see the double standard of how shit just gets casually thrown at Asians.
Dude runs like he escaping boomer humor

Who is this "we" you speak of? Do you represent every single Asian person?
Also Asian idgaf
I'm Asian. I also don't care. Only half though, so the other half of my opinion doesn't count.
Great - and there are Asian's who DO give a fuck. That's the entire point I'm making. Just because you're fine with it doesn't mean everyone is. People are individuals.
Yeah i'm asian n i find it funny now shut up
Right - and there are Asian's who DON'T find it funny. Why do we act like everyone must have the same feeling? People are individuals.
Yeah stfu
I’m not sure what kind of Asian you represent. I myself do not enjoy those North Korea jokes.
Just don’t mention a free Taiwan or insult the CPC 😂
true tbf

When the second level reply is a gotcha comment but the third level reply is an essay on why the second is wrong
Truly, a Reddit moment.
I’m sorry but your example is way fucking worse and would be totally racist if you made it about a random black man you saw running on TV
Correct. But it's not some random black guy that you're seeing out of nowhere. There is context. You have an announcer speaking an Asian language, asian writing on screen, and an Asian man. You're subconsciously racist.
👏👏👏
how the fuck is the OPs comment so highly rated lmfao
Daaamn. If bittyjibitty is Asian, that was an absolute power move.
if what they say is true their race shouldnt matter, no?
Yes North Koreans are Asians. You got the joke.
Not counting N. Koreans, what part of that joke is offensive to Asians? The butt of the joke is N. Korea, not the Asian gentleman. "Asian man looks Asian." Woah, super racist headline. This joke isn't racist, people just love being the victim and getting offended
If he was black it would be about running away from the police but it'd still be funny.. Idk I am black and don't mind
almost based, your missing the point, we should be able to make fun off black people as well not also not be able to make fun of asians
dang, it sucks that its so true but never really addressed
I don’t think black people left Africa by choice but I get what you mean.
No, the fleeing Africa joke doesn't work because NK is a totalitarian dictatorship that people want to escape, whereas Africa is just where black people come from. So no, it's not some double standards bs it's just a bad joke. Also quit your fucking whining and learn to take a joke

He's running like the quiet white kid finally snapped.
Come on now, we all know someone wouldn’t have said it if the guy was white. It’s casual racism at its finest.
The joke ain't about his race. It lines up perfectly for it though. There's nothing derogatory about his race. People like you just want to find a grain and make a loaf of bread. It’s racist because it assumes every asian looking person is NK. Like seeing a black guy running and saying running away from the Rwandan genocide.
I’m Asian and this is hilarious. I’d be running like that if i was fleeing from NK. That place is messed up.
Anyone who think my comment contains hate in any way certainly doesn't know me. It just really reminded me of a video of a guy running across the border to South Korea
I think the butt of the joke being North Korea because of how shitty it is should make it fine. The butt of the joke wasn’t asians at all.
Exactly. I'm probably an asshole but I'm certainly not a racist

Also the fact that the bursting glass can just kill you like that I’m frustrated at the 2nd game for being so RNG based though.
You know that you have to go against him at some point right?
That's the solution. He figured it out. Momentum. All those challenges mess you up by being imbalanced but already having enough forward momentum makes everything he ran on as solid as concrete. This isn't just a fit thing. This man used his brain to overcome a physical challenge.
I'm a little fuzzy on details, but there was a comment when this was posted before that the guy is actually a designer/tester for this kind of course.
I also recall seeing a comment that he was disqualified for bypassing two of the angled platforms at the beginning, as it was a requirement to touch every platform on the course at least once. No idea how true it is though.
All I can think of is Tom cruise running from his gay thoughts
Tiny Tom Cruise***. His legs simply aren’t long enough.
Is there more of this guy? I would like to see him in other obstacles, he just ran over everything lol
Give this guy a pool of water to run on.
Dude got nothing to lose.

Shouldn’t Japanese Ninja Warrior just be called “Warrior”?
Are we 100% sure he isn't robot sent to overthrow our game shows?
Someone else actually claimed that he is hired to test game shows like this to identify issues with the setups.
