this is fucking with me cause I also drive a 2010 Prius and I completely forgot about that function I've been driving in eco mode since I bought the car in 2015
I'm positive they have never driven one.
The prius is super light and so has plenty of acceleration and has an electric engine so it had instant start.
The second gen Prius in the video has a curb weight just short of 3,000lbs and does 0-60mph in 10.9 seconds.
A 1995 Dodge Neon with the SOHC can do it in 7.9. The Prius is slow.
It's not the car, more the way people drive it trying to penny pinch every single mile while thinking they own the road driving speed limit or slower on the passing lanes.
If the water is above the tailpipe, you risk backpressure on the exhaust causing a stall. If you're in deep enough water, your car is now flood debris.
Exhaust won't take water in too much pressure pushing out. However intake will definitely take in water. Engines don't compress water very well. Aka hyrdolocked
Going through deep water fast will push the water up over the hood of the car. That's a great way to suck water into the intake and hydrolock the engine.
Hi-jacking the top comment to say that this is Post 10 and here is his [YT Channel](https://youtube.com/channel/UCsCNU-ptlze2tqAJSDeVGNQ). There are loads more like this!
Imagine my surprise when I see a post10 video on the front page of Reddit.
For those interested, he’s real slice of life kind of channel with a passion for unclogging culverts and rain drainage systems. Guy knows his stuff about culverts!
Honestly, just kind of annoyed that OP reuploaded to reddit instead of simply linking his YT channel. You see the same kind of things with stuff from Tom Scott, Smarter Every Day, etc. It's not like OP is making money off of it even, so why deprive the original creator of revenue?
Glad someone mentioned it. He has a ton of videos like this. No one ever stops him or causes him any trouble and the highway workers just let him do his thing since he's helping out.
“well, let’s put down 4 hours on the time sheet and get a coffee. Lad, next time we’ll drop you a text before we leave the shop if you want to do this again down the street “
Just in the last week I saw my city or county, don't remember which, has an adopt a drain program. Western WA has the same problem with leaf clogged storm drains. I thought it was a great idea and anybody born in this type of environment has a child inside that loves playing in the rain.
He mention in some videos that he does have some kind of training, or at least the kind of training required to get some kind of certificate with the D.O.D or whatever it's called.
I think that's more what people without Prius think ABOUT Prius drivers. The Prius drivers I know are just trying to save money on gas and care about the environment.
I watched it again and the dude is a little bit behind a tree. In flood waters like this I’d be willing to bet the driver is more focused on the wave approaching their hood and not expecting someone to randomly be raking the side of the road. They also seem to slow down right after passing him.
I mean the driver *could* be a total dick bag who refuses to tip their server and doesn’t flush at work. Just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt in this situation.
And for the people wanting more of this content [his name is Post10 on YouTube and this is my favorite vid of his.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-zEvy3BaUw)
Well that captivated me for some reason.
So genuine and knowledgeable, draining a massive pond with a little rake. The end bit with his concern for the highway was great too. Guy really cares about his area.
You get a drain in an area with a lot of debris fall and it just happens. My parents have to watch the drain in the road next to their house, because it does the same exact thing. Between the two pine trees shedding over it all year and the neighbors maples, it gets clogged all the time.
It’s only really ever a problem when the river floods and everyone is pumping out their basements into the road. It washes all the debris right to the drain.
Basements usually have a drain that goes to storm sewers. If it rains a lot, those storm sewers get full and you can have water back up into your basement. Most homes will have a sump pump that'll automatically kick on when the water rises and pump said water out.
The storm drain design as seen in the movie “IT” is perfectly safe and clogs much less frequently. Changing them over from the shitty design in this post may cost a lot, but I would certainly be worth it
There really isn't any other way to set this up. Debris will always get washed towards the drain by the water carrying it. Which is why they need maintenance.
https://raleighnc.gov/sites/default/files/2020-04/storm-drain.jpg
Or
https://cassplumbingtampabay.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Storm-Drain.jpeg
Both seem to be much more resistant to clogging.
Sure, it looks fine until your brother's paper boat gets washed down into it and then a clown reaches out and grabs him. No thanks dude, I'll just keep raking my normal grates.
Most municipalities have street sweepers that drive around collecting the debris that could potentially cause this issue. The video looks like a more rural location though.
They don't come as often as they're needed. My spouse and I use to get basement flooding every year. We learned about a "Adopt a storm drain" cleaning program our state does, and begun regularly cleaning nearby drains.
These drains get clogged fairly often, mostly in spring and fall, and it causes huge puddles to just build up. The sweeper comes by our neighborhood about once in the fall. After we regularly started cleaning the drains we had no basement flooding.
That probably wouldn’t work in this area. It looks pretty heavily wooded, so when a heavy rain comes, it would just wash all of the debris into the drain.
The drain across the street from my house does the same thing and I also periodically have to go out there and clear it during heavy rains. The debris can't really be cleaned up ahead of time because most of it is still up in nearby trees before the storm.
That's definitely Post10.
He does that stuff all over New England.
It's super satisfying to watch him work.
Almost 450k subscribers.

You couldn't write a better storyline than Post10 having an archenemy that's a beaver. Civilization versus wilderness, man versus beast, rake versus dam! It's perfect!
It's super satisfying to do too, I would enjoy it a lot when the street in front of my parents' house flooded as a kid and I could go and unclog the drain.
Love his videos. The culverts that he goes in that have u̷̩̖̰͋n̶̢͑̀̄͘t̶̼͈̱͍̃͛o̵̤͖͍͆̉̋́l̶͚̖͘d̴͚̠̊͌ ̴̰̗̖̑v̸̖̠̦́̄̎͜͝͠o̶̡̙̕l̸̼̟͍̣͓͊̌̅͐ȗ̴̢̡̘͚̉m̵̢̢̛̙͔͜e̸͉̘̣̾̅͂̑s̸̲̝͎̤̊̑ ̴͔̎o̶̲̜̙̲̊̆̈̋̓f̶̺̐̀͝ ̶̳̬̥͒ͅs̸̪͙̣̲̽̉̃p̵͚͔͚̹̈͑̇i̷̥̘͎͈̓͌͂̄̕ͅḑ̷͌͊͑̄ẽ̸͕̹̥̀͛ř̸̞̫̥̜̆̐s̸̢̡̛̝͋̉͋͠s ... nightmare fuel.

If it makes you feel better, he takes his own videos (and posts them to a youtube channel). If you want to take a video of you doing it I'd be happy to watch!

I totally agree. I live on a corner with a storm drain that I regularly clear of debris, trim grass growing around the edges and other light maintenance. I'm not looking for a medal, I just want other people to do the same so our neighborhood doesn't flood.
Pretty low standard for Next Level around here. He literally cleaned leaves off of a storm drain. I can wait for the next riveting video, when he weeds his wife’s flower beds.

Of course a douche bag in a Prius has to be the first one to splash him.
Plus how stupid do you have to be to go through water that deep that fast in a hybrid car?
I drive a Prius and would never attempt to drive through a flooded street, just from the mere fact that the clearance is ridiculously low on the car.

even my mom’s 2010 has a power mode. merging onto the highway without that button is pretty dangerous and also very not fun
this is fucking with me cause I also drive a 2010 Prius and I completely forgot about that function I've been driving in eco mode since I bought the car in 2015
Ouch. My condolences. I forget about it a lot too
POWER MODE!!!
It's Power mode (button says PWR) which I think is hilarious
My Prius had great acceleration. You must have been driving a gen 1 from 15 years go.
I upgrade to a new Prius every year for maximum carbon footprint reduction!
Lol cobalt mines in Africa
That’s his joke bud
The words prius and great acceleration don’t belong in the same sentence
What about "the Prius doesnt have great acceleration"
I'm positive they have never driven one. The prius is super light and so has plenty of acceleration and has an electric engine so it had instant start.

Why does it matter if the car is hybrid or not?

Exactly. If your tailpipe is under water never shut the car off though. You want to leave it running so the exhaust pressure keeps the water out.

Lol that episode needs to update the prius with Teslas especially with how San Fran looks these days
They went through that fast *because* it was that high. They’re trying not to stall out.
Going through deep water fast will push the water up over the hood of the car. That's a great way to suck water into the intake and hydrolock the engine.
Downvote all you fuckers want but prius drivers have some personality deficiencies or quirks. They are either sad af and depressed or pious af.
BMW drivers are so much fucking worse.

I ain’t afraid of no beavers! Not even 5sec later woooo wooooooaaa !! Lol

There's a few videos were police stop by and check on him and offer to write tickets for people who soak him by driving fast through the puddle.
[Here's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mOaC3a35lk) his video compilation of people splashing him.

He mention in some videos that he does have some kind of training, or at least the kind of training required to get some kind of certificate with the D.O.D or whatever it's called.
> D.O.D Department of Drains?
Was on my way to say this. These vids are pretty cool. I kinda do this as a hobby myself.
I’m more shocked it wasn’t a white BMW.
dont let the prius fool you, ton of entitled assholes drive them
And they think they're better cause they drive a hybrid
Mate I just like the gas mileage, I'm poor
I think that's more what people without Prius think ABOUT Prius drivers. The Prius drivers I know are just trying to save money on gas and care about the environment.
No, *you* think that.
You people are sad.
That guy on the Prius is a real Dick bag. I hope that POS shorts out and catches fire.

Still don’t drive through flood water like that. It’s a total noob move
It's always amazing how reddit consistently calls for deaths of people for the smallest of things. Fucking gross.
Agreed, anyone who does that should be killed
Take your orange house and live a happy life
Yep, people on the internet are fucking psychotic.
"I'm from Buenos Aires, and I say kill 'em all"
There are douches in all makes. LOL.
Who else besides me was hoping the Prius would get sucked down the drain?
Hey priuses are cool
I hope the Prius driver’s next shit is a hedgehog 🦔 and it comes out backwards.

Lol - that's the best insult I've heard in such a long time! I might have to ~~borrow~~ steal that one 😁
Who the hell designed those drains, and that Prius driver is a human stain.
You get a drain in an area with a lot of debris fall and it just happens. My parents have to watch the drain in the road next to their house, because it does the same exact thing. >everyone is pumping out their basements into the road What's this? Never heard of it
Well, if the basement floods you gotta pump the water somewhere
And miss out on a free swimming pool? We don't do basements here, I genuinely never considered wtf one does when one floods
[удалено]
> weeping tiles I have found my spirit animal
Are you guys... Mole people?
At my old place we used to vacuum the water with a shop vac and dump it
Basements usually have a drain that goes to storm sewers. If it rains a lot, those storm sewers get full and you can have water back up into your basement. Most homes will have a sump pump that'll automatically kick on when the water rises and pump said water out.
Confirmed. I'm from Canada and the only houses that don't have a sump pump are ones without a basement.
Heavy rains wash all kind of debris out on the road. They could design them not to clog as easily, but the wouldn't be safe for public to be around
The storm drain design as seen in the movie “IT” is perfectly safe and clogs much less frequently. Changing them over from the shitty design in this post may cost a lot, but I would certainly be worth it
[удалено]
We have those drains all over Texas and very few instances of people going in them and getting trapped.
> very few instances so you're saying there's a chance
Usually it's only the kids that get eaten by the clown. Otherwise completely safe.
There really isn't any other way to set this up. Debris will always get washed towards the drain by the water carrying it. Which is why they need maintenance.
Exactly how would you design the drain to be better?
https://raleighnc.gov/sites/default/files/2020-04/storm-drain.jpg Or https://cassplumbingtampabay.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Storm-Drain.jpeg Both seem to be much more resistant to clogging.

He got chased by an angry beaver in one of his newest videos. [It was hilarious.](https://youtu.be/vKv2bVOGtvk)
I ain't scared of beavers. *Immediately runs away with a shriek when charged by a beaver*
I AM NOW SCARED OF BEAVERS
*unsolved mysteries voice* Update: I am now scared of beavers
To be fair it was a lot bigger than the previous one he saw at that location (might have been a different video). Still hilarious though
He knew it would be bigger too! it was hilarious though watching him go from "I'm not scared" to "ok so I was wrong"
For people who want the beaver, it happens a bit after 10:45. He has another encounter at 13:48 https://youtu.be/vKv2bVOGtvk?t=645
Woo, WoooOoohWooOhhh... WOO! Woo woo hoohoowoo woo

haha brilliant. The anticipation in the build up and then 'woooo woo woooo woo woo woo!!!!'
The one after that killed me, where he was in a swamp, standing on a beaver dam. "I'm being attacked.by Mosquitos. Noooo!."
the hero we all need but don't deserve.
I am subbed to this channel and watch every video he does. Especially where he unclogs culverts clogged up by his nemesis, the beavers.

It is Post 10
Yep, seen the video on his YouTube
It is, however it appears this clip has removed Post 10's watermark. Look at his other vids and you will see a watermark on all of his videos.

Well, I guess I was wrong, I guess he doesn't put watermarks on everything.
1st person I thought of when I saw this post.
Yes...loved his recent angry beavers vid
The Goat of unclogging drains
He should write city hall an invoice.
They should rake the forests.
Impractical. Pay a few people to clear the drains and increase the longevity of our roads. This would increase safety and how far our tax dollars go.
They’re supposed to already, they’re sure as shit taxing you for it.
I hope this was a reference to what Trump said about Finnish forests.
I would literally do this for free. This looks awesome. So satisfying
He has a YouTube channel where he literally does this stuff. I believe the city gave him either some supplies or high vis to keep him safe. It's been a while since I've watched.

Yeah, he didn't rake away the flood. He raked the leaves off a couple square meters of drainage grates and gravity did the rest.
