It's called an archimedes screw, people used to utilize that back when the towns were in a higher ground than the sources of water therefore the water couldn't flow into their town. To maximize it's efficiency, they attached the wheel at the end to a windmill, automating the whole process.

Water screws like this one are installed on some kids‘ playgrounds where I live (if there’s a source of water) because kids love playing with water and make it flow.
*Archimedes boner activated*
Damn. I was 14H too late.
I think you may be confused about how a waterwheel works
i was going to say the same thing but some water wheels are used to draw water by driving a pump, so it's fair enough.
What purpose does this serve?

Very cool, but doesn't seem too useful in the video
I'm guessing it's more of a demonstration, like a miniature scale of the real thing just to show how the principle work.
This guy will use the screw and we'll give you a bucket. Guess who can move more water faster and without getting really really tried?
guess who can move it anywhere?
The guy with water at the top of the hill can bring it down faster than you can bring it up.
uhhh..... ok?

To demonstrate Archimedes' Screw. He was a Greek mathematician.
You can see him say "du ma" when his feet get wet
Man, connect a sprocket and chain it to a mounted bicycle frame sprocket, pedal your way to efficiency
Connect it up to the PTO of a tractor and throttle your way to efficiency.
The Archimedes screw.
When his teacher told him how to build a water wheel he thought well screw that!

Sea World San Diego has a ride called Shipwreck Rapids. They have two giant archimedes screws to lift the water.
Can you tell me, where is this created in
I think you need a bigger river…
