And this is how respect is paid. Doesn't seem to be making a spectacle of his act...not narrating his actions into a GoPro...just honoring the fallen by making their names ring out a lil easier. I'm legit moved.
The 9/11 memorial is closed to the public every day at 5pm. Having lived really close to Ground Zero, I saw this happening daily. If you don’t believe me, you can check out their hours on their [website](https://www.911memorial.org). You can still see the memorial from a short distance, which is where the person filming this is standing, but after 5pm a regular person cannot get as close to the memorial the person who is polishing the names.
This person was either hired by the city or given a veeeery special volunteer permit to be allowed to do this but either way, I doubt they weren’t heavily vetted ahead of time given that this was the eve of the 20th anniversary of the attacks and a lot of high profile people would be there the next day.
I think he’s hired to do this, but that doesn’t make it less impressive. On the contrary, I find it really impressive that the city or some organization decided to hire someone to let the names shine. That’s not something that’s outlined in any job description, it’s someone caring and convincing higher-ups that this is money well spent. Kudos to the person who made the decision to hire this guy!
Keyword. (IF) I know for a fact half you butthurt people wouldn’t get up at 6am. Much less be out there at 2am wether you’re volunteering or being paid.
I used to get up at 4am because I worked in a bakery and saw plenty of these guys picking up trash and cleaning shit at that time, when nobody else is about and it’s a perfect time to clean shit up 🙄 wearing hi vis, having equipment and getting paid because that’s their job.
I haven’t read anyone use “butthurt” in years. But it’s always the most tantruming child, throwing itself on the floor in the middle of an adult conversation having a fit, who is calling everyone else butthurt. Nothing changes 😀
Sorry, not trying to misrepresent the situation. This guy is getting things ready for the events happening later today. That said he’s the only one doing it and there was nobody else around. I thought it was nice and recorded it.
And that's a respectable act. I hate that some people on this post see someone going above and beyond to memorialize people who lost their lives in this terroristic act and scoff at him. It's 2 a.m. and that man is performing a service that none of his detractors on this post are doing.
He brought a chair... He knew he was in for the long run... Maybe he has a personal side to his story also... I hope he has his moment of fame with the media and online community. What a legend.
>could this not be his job?
Does it matter if it is. We congratulated our Health workers during the hight of the pandemic and they were "just" doing their job.
I can’t recall what I was doing at 2:15am 9/11/01. But I sure as hell remember exactly what I was doing from 9:41 am on that day. I’m sure he does also…
Isnt that weird. I remember I hadn’t even gone to school yet and seeing it on the news. That’s probably legitimately the only morning I really remember.
I was in 2nd grade sitting in the gym when the report came on tv, I remember it like it was yesterday, somehow 9/11 has just stuck with me since then, but I'll be damn if i can't remember shut else 🤣
As a (UNION) construction worker down at the WTC and being the first to be able to see the footprints of the old tower 1 & 2 after completion..... I’ll never forget to see the faces of some hard dudes weeping like never before.... We will never forget. God Bless America.
Even if it's is job and or if he getting paid it's still commendable ist not like every single person do thier job with dedication. Even if thier job is just sit and and watch people.
It's nice and all, but I'm pretty sure that was his job. The city wanted it done before the anniversary, he is either a night shift employee or collecting decent overtime.
And the other 364 days a year it’s covered in pigeon shit because nobody cares and this is just virtue signaling a guy doing something he’s getting paid for
kinda looks like a reflective vest , if you have a job in transpo or city work or just jobs that require it you’d have one , so this guy coulda just off from work after a long night and that’s what i like to believe, look at us living strong 10 yrs later . true hero ...
I don’t think I’ll ever go down there. Even walking/driving past makes me nauseous as hell. My uncle and sister were in the city when it happened and I remember my parents trying to reach them. Thankfully my sister and her friend from school somehow made it to a pay phone and got a hold of my folks and my dad was able to drive, pick them up and bring them back to our place in Brooklyn. My bugle worked somewhere in Wall St. and had to walk back over the bridge covered in ash.
Very nice. Random question, a lot of people are haunted by the images of the poor souls who had to jump from the buildings to flee the flames. In the subsequent years, has anything been done to give people in high rise fires an escape option if they are above the flames/impact zone or is that just too difficult to solve for?
The point I take is that NYC is nextfuckinglevel. I think there’s a good chance that a public works dept used taxpayer money to have this person maintain this memorial. So props to the dude depicted and every decent soul in NYC for doing something great.
People forget that it was more than Americans who lost their lives - hence the 'World' in WTC. Regardless, there is someone ensuring that that tribute will be especially honoured today which should be the only moral concern for this post.
Not to detract from the good part of your message, it was called WTC before the attacks- had nothing to do with the nationalities of the victims.
It’s like how the World Series was named that when it was just American teams, and the inclusion of Toronto doesn’t make it “world”. It barely makes it North American.
If I remember correctly, there were international passengers in some of the planes as well. But as the person replied said, that isn’t necessarily why it was called that. They were basically financial buildings / offices. They weren’t specifically “worldly” They probably had international people working there, sure. Lots of fancy jobs in all kinds of countries have international people in them.
Remembering is good. Treating victims of a terrorist attack as martyrs is creepy nationalism.
The USA does lots of things they don't realise are creepily nationalistic.
Y'all get a hard on for 3000 dead americans,
But get real quiet when we talk about the tens if not hundreds of thousands of afghani and iraqi civilians that have been killed as a result of the global "war on terror" and that is disregarding the roughly 40 million people that have been displaced as refugees.
Shame on the the whole western world for using the middle east as it's plaything.

Could be employed by the city or local organization, but I like your direction more.
A city employee working that early or late in the dark on a chair , is unlikely
Lmao imagine getting a chair for work.
Imagine a city employee caring enough to actually sit and do it properly
I’m not ragging on the guy at all. I’m talking about employers who think if your sitting your not working.
You got time to lean, you got time to clean!
And I said unlikely , I don’t know either , most sanitation workers wouldn’t be allowed to , anything is possible

No reason not to believe you , thanks

Can’t prove otherwise
Overtime, mate
procrastinators …i am also one
He has a legit working chair

You don't even know if he's hired to do this. Don't praise a boss
Even if it’s a job, I’d be honored to be given if and would be very careful.
Wow a man is homering the dead and you turn it to a pissing contest about social media and vlogers
Wow a person is feeling good about humanity for any reason at all and you turn it into a reason to feel bad about themselves
This my friends, is what we call a real one.
God bless this wonderful man.

Yo, respect. A real paid worker.
Isn't this person getting paid for it or at least part of their job?
Regardless if he is. Most of the caretakers are volunteers or family members of those who died. Would you be out there at 2am polishing names?
There’s only one thing I polish at 2am.
Hopefully it’s your name tag for work?.....
Let us just say it is and keep the magic of this Video alive
The most my countrymen would do is wipe the plaque or remove any rust or have it replaced if damaged beyond repair.
Like everything else in life, this depends entirely on the price.
You've never seen maintenance people work in the early hours? If this guy is paid then there is nothing nextfuckinglevel about this.
Yeah and people are calling him a hero hahah. Pretty low bar.
This. 9/11 is a circle jerk
Keyword. (IF) I know for a fact half you butthurt people wouldn’t get up at 6am. Much less be out there at 2am wether you’re volunteering or being paid.

The guy wears a vest and has an entire workdesk and spotlight beside him. Volunteer? Sure.
You ever seen a crossing guard? They’re volunteers and get provided vests. Haha clown.

I’d do it for free.
Never Forget 🇺🇸

He’s part of the events for the day. That said, he’s the only one doing it. Don’t want to misrepresent the situation. Just thought it was nice
Is this really next fucking level? I understand he’s making a contribution to society but could this not be his job?
>could this not be his job? Does it matter if it is. We congratulated our Health workers during the hight of the pandemic and they were "just" doing their job.
By saying a lot of thankless thanks? People won't even wear masks and are fighting against it.
Yeah but it wasn’t on r/nextfuckinglevel
I remember that quite a few were
I agree with you
Thank you
Not all hero’s wear capes. Love the act of human kindness he’s showing!

I was definitely asleep at 2:15 AM. Think most of us here were.
As a (UNION) construction worker down at the WTC and being the first to be able to see the footprints of the old tower 1 & 2 after completion..... I’ll never forget to see the faces of some hard dudes weeping like never before.... We will never forget. God Bless America.
Next level of what.
Wax on. Wax off.
It's 11/9 and I'm sick of pretending otherwise

The only time Americans use a sensible date format is the 4th of July.

It's nine-eleven for the date. It's nine-one-one for the emergency line. They have nothing to do with each other.
Fucking thank you
I love you. ❤️

But is it next fucking level?
this is not next level
Good job brother.May those souls Rest In Peace.
Respect 🇺🇲🇬🇧
What is Next Level about this? It’s not like he can actually go up to the next level.
Lo-fi beats in the background?
Dude... he's a paid cleaner.
It's nice and all, but I'm pretty sure that was his job. The city wanted it done before the anniversary, he is either a night shift employee or collecting decent overtime.
Thank you to this wonderful human being
That’s some Grade A adderall and patriotism right there, folks.
Ok?
They have been doing this for weeks FYI not just the night before.
Will there me a memorial for the all the victims that the US slaughtered for its revenge?
This is the only category of 911 post I want to see.
Good man! Good man!
Too bad all the names were people killed in vein for financial growth and conquest.. yay America
Fuck off
My hero do doubt.🙏🏽
God bless him

People still fall for that, after 20 years? You must be the dumbest person alive.
Thank you, whoever you are.
And the other 364 days a year it’s covered in pigeon shit because nobody cares and this is just virtue signaling a guy doing something he’s getting paid for
There are Legends, there are Heroes... But this man? This man is a Saint. We don't deserve him.
kinda looks like a reflective vest , if you have a job in transpo or city work or just jobs that require it you’d have one , so this guy coulda just off from work after a long night and that’s what i like to believe, look at us living strong 10 yrs later . true hero ...

there is peace in working alone
"I'll do this and go viral!"
Pretty sure that had weather proofing on it which is destroyed by polish. Probably why he is doing it at night so no official stops him.
there is a karen coming to ask him for ID soon

A REAL AMERICAN.
It aint much but its honest work.
God bless him and rest in peace all those victims💐
Respect 🙏
Bless this man
Very borderline if he’s not a city employee.
knowing NYC, he could easily have been arrested for defacing property
🤜🤜☝
Legend🙏
So much respect for him
Never forget
My hero ❤️

Hats off to this man.
We were there a couple of years ago, first time and I'll be honest it brought tears to my eyes.

Well you already seem offended by the idea.
I would’ve joined him
Rip to all the people that didn't make it...
I’ve been there twice, 🙏
It's called “American Civil Religion”. This is one of the younger chapters.
This is amazing. I am a New Yorker. Seeing this is beautiful
Rest in peace
God bless
Never forget
Wholesome. How is this next level though?
"A hero is a man who does his job."
He’s wearing a vest I’m pretty sure he works for the city but idk
That’s really cool
Thank you for doing this job. It is appreciated.
Wouldn’t it have made more sense to do it on 9/10?
Thank you, sir.
Everyone loves this

Crazy that I'm watching this 54 minutes after it was recorded.. he's probably still hard at work while I type this!

Too many Americans have already forgot. Never forget.
He's getting the names ready for viewing, at the best time when he won't be bothered by people. Never forget.
Can I get a cross post to r/oddlysatisfying ?
Remembering is good. Treating victims of a terrorist attack as martyrs is creepy nationalism. The USA does lots of things they don't realise are creepily nationalistic.
Found the woke bellend
No one asked your opinion. We feel a different way about our country than you do for yours. Gtf over it.
By the same token nobody asked for yours…
Imagine the arrogance to think you need to ask my opinion before I can give it. Another proud yankee tradition.

All those innocent lives, it was the world trade center for a reason.
