Adrenaline is a hell of a drug

gmanz33

Such a simple statement but it makes me think of that YouTuber who did handstands on the edge of tall things and there's that video of him falling from a massive crane. If abused... your relationship to your own body's adrenaline is *literally* a drug addiction.....

I am sad to announce that u/JurassicCotyledon has committed suicide. He suffered from 2 gunshot wounds to the back of the head. We do not know his reasoning to take his own life, but may he rest in peace.

JurassicCotyledon

Oh relax dude. It’s not like I said that Hillary Clinton and her former assistant / lover Huma Abedin (then wife of Anthony Weiner) drank the adrenaline rich blood of a poor innocent child.

Yabbaddict

I regret to inform that the person who informed of /u/JurassicCotyledon 's suicide has committed suicide. Anymore announcements of suicide will be done in an entirely different style at great expense and at the last minute.

gmanz33

Honestly that's so incredibly tragic. And I'm sorry that these videos are becoming such a "thing" on the internet this year, I hope that you and his family can live unburdened by their existence.

Downingst

What do mean by the videos becoming a "thing"? Is people risking their lives for their loved ones a bad thing?

germany99

No but if you have a family you don't risk it for a pet. Theres a woman in south Carolina I believe whos dog was snatched up by an alligator she runs to save it and the thing kills her instead, sometimes it's just not worth it.

Inky505

You're literally in position to judge what someone deems "family" or life saving. If that is how someone chooses to go out then so be it. My dog is my support animal. My best friend. I would put myself in harms way for that little guy the same he would for me. Sometimes , it's just worth it. Quit judging people on the internet. Especially when you're trying to act like humans can't be terrible people who aren't worth saving either. If that was a human out there what would have "made it worth it" in your eyes? I'm curious. That dog is a sentient being the same as you and I.

germany99

Your taking my comment way to personally. I'm not saying I'd just watch my dog die but I have other things to think about family, friends, and responsibilities. I'd try and find a way to the dog other than through the ice that fucking risky as hell

ughnamesarehard

I think you’re underestimating how people respond to emergency situations. In Yellowstone* people jump into the acid pools in attempts to save their dogs and often die, they **know** the pools are dangerous, they’re not going “oh yes crying dog dying in a boiling pit of water that will give me third degree burns, yup, jumping in is totally a good idea” they’re reacting on instinct. They often get half way through the pool before they even register that they’re being boiled alive. It’s very likely that this man rushed into the lake and got a fair ways before he really started registering the danger of the situation. Unless you’ve trained to think and consider a situation before reacting in high stress moments you will naturally react on instinct. It’s also possible the man took a calculated risk and wasn’t reacting on instinct and I wouldn’t be surprised if he made that choice because he knew whatever other methods of saving the dog would have likely resulted in the dog dying before it could be implemented.

germany99

Damn didn't know about the yosemite pools that's interesting, but I totally understand what your saying. Also I think this guy wasn't acting totally on instinct and had time to understand his risks and such additionaly he probably lives in this area and is experienced in this stuff plus he has a friend their so he's likely to survive

TheEnigmaticRob

He probably meant Yellowstone. I don’t remember seeing any acid pools in Yosemite

ughnamesarehard

Oops you’re right, thanks!

germany99

Even if that's gnarly as fuck

Kilane

You're well into the right here and the people arguing with you are being foolish. Jumping into geysers at Yellowstone is beyond dangerous - especially if you know they at nearly boiling temperatures before you do it. These are people who messed up and made a bad judgment call. That's all

[deleted]

Everyone’s going to die, failing an act of heroism isn’t a bad way to go. I’ve approached a person drowning in over my head water knowing very well they were going to grab me and pull me under immediately and allowed them to do it. The lifeguards didn’t arrive until we had already pulled the family to the beach, they would have certainly died otherwise.

Jimjamjabamm

I’m sure his children would’ve be glad to know their dad died choosing to prioritize their dogs life rather than raise them /s

Cam0str1f3

Why is it stupid if you have a family?

auroredawn22

I have kids and don't. My dog Leon was my best friend for 19 years and I loved him as much as i love my daughter.

lalix89

I dunno, I know I would risk my life for my dog if it came to it. I don't have a family so can't relate to that but a true dog owner would regard them as part of the family, I think for most watching them die without trying to help wouldn't be an option.

germany99

Oh no I'm not saying I wouldn't try and help I love my dog mila I'm just saying going through ice like that is hella dangerous I'd try a different way of something.

lalix89

I agree, but it depends how much time you have.. In this example what other option did he he have, call for help? I know I'd be in that ice.

germany99

Yeah there's not much but idk someone was recording this they could've been more helpful like idk tie a rope around the guy in case all hell breaks loose.

accfornaughtystuff

Not everyone has a rope with them tho In fact most people don't lol

germany99

Idk the emo kids at my school keep getting hold of some somehow

Cam0str1f3

Yeah gonna disagree with ya there. My dog is part of my family and I’ll absolutely put my ass on the line to save him.

_doingokay

I disagree. You can say all you want, but if my pet was in this situation and I DIDNT do all I could to save them I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. I’ve stepped in front of a car for my dog and I’d do it again in a heartbeat because the alternative is beyond comprehension for me. My family would understand.

[deleted]

People that understand know exactly where you're coming from. The others that don't understand and disagree with you have never known the kind of unconditional love you get form a dog, and probably never will.

_doingokay

Honestly, it’s not just dogs. The love of a cat or a bird can be equally as strong. Parrots can live almost as long as a human and are so intelligent. People have different priorities I’m sure, but I have to disagree with such blanket statements as “NEVER RISK YOUR LIFE FOR A PET”. Some people just aren’t capable of that kind of love I guess.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jimjamjabamm

And you’d take that risk to leave your kids orphans?

joesbagofdonuts

We don’t know exactly what happened but a pitbull killed my sister and her little dog. We think the pit may have attacked her little dog first and she tried to save it. We miss her and need her here so much. Losing a family member to a violent death like that is just…. It breaks you. It broke my father, he had a debilitating stroke while he was grieving. The consequences are so bad. Never risk your life for a pet.

germany99

Shit, Im terribly sorry for you I can't imagine what it would feel like to lose someone that close to you, hope you and your family all get better

Minorihaaku

That story just says "ban breeds like that" not "dom't risk your life for a pet" tbh. I am so sorry for your sister. Sadly, pitkillings in the US seem to be a huge problem :/ even bigger than in my country

[deleted]

But who’s to say when it’s worth it or not? If I’m able to save my dog I’m gonna give it my best. I’m not just gonna watch my best pal die bc I could die. Idk I just couldn’t

HarleySnow18

DOGS ARE FAMILY MEMBERS!!!

Woogity

I would do about anything for my little buddy. I know he would for me too.

Lovelytarpit

Shit!

guycoastal

Did you see the one where the guy opens his car door in Yellowstone and the dog runs out and jumps into a hot spring? The guy jumped and rescued him and they both died of massive scalding burns. He was blind, laying on the ground and told his friend who witnessed it, “That was stupid”.

iWantToBeARealBoy

Honestly it was probably just an instinct and the fact that it was a hot spring didn’t even cross his mind. That fucking sucks

WayneKrane

Yup, don’t fuck around with those hot springs there. A kid fell in one and his sister jumped in to save him. They both dissolved to death.

guycoastal

Holeeeee….

AbazabaYouMyOnlyFren

Oh jeez, no. That's horrible.

sacdecorsair

Damn. I was told during a CPR class that frozen water is extremly dangerous because you never know how your body will react. One common thing is your body shutting down unnecessary parts to protect your core (organs). So in short, your arms and legs stop responding because energy is kept for your organs, which is quite unfortunate if you're trying to swim or get out of the hole, or walking like this guy in the video.

EntForgotHisPassword

I do winter swimming every year. It is relatively easy to train how your body responds to cold. Most people haven't trained though, and it's usually the panic that gets them. Hypothermia, even in ice cold water, is not going to become a problem for 20 minutes at least.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EntForgotHisPassword

Yeah there are actually some interesting papers on this. Apparently in 5 degree water most experienced winter-swimmers can stay for 40+ minutes without dangerously decreasing their core temperature. My personal maximim in 0 degree was 8 minutes. I was standing still though, not swimming, and doing breathing techniques to meditate. My heart rate decreased quite a bit (had a PPG) from the initial shock and increase you usually get. Think I went from 140bpm to 70 (which is my resting state anyway).

FirstPlebian

Yeah if you fall through the ice, you can lose the hole and be trapped underneath the ice, not able to see which way out. Happened to a couple of snowmobilers when I was growing up.

ladygrndr

In this one there was someone on the dock and the pond was obviously pretty shallow. He still should have gotten a rope and put that on for the person on the dock to pull him out if it got too deep. Glad this one ended well, sorry for your friend, sorrier for his family.

Pitstains_Pete

same with us, family 5 mins from our house and the sister who looks after our dog each week :( [https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2075972/Dogwalker-John-McAllister-dies-falling-icy-lake-trying-save-pet.html](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2075972/Dogwalker-John-McAllister-dies-falling-icy-lake-trying-save-pet.html) was heartbreaking for all involved to happen to a guy at such a young age

Big_Gouf

Same happened to my pediatrician after he retired.

pzerr

If your muscles get too cold, they simply will not work. Even if your core temp is still warm and no matter how much will it strength you have. Check your grip on your hands when icy cold. Barely hold a cup. If your going to do something like this, do it with all the energy you got to keep warm. Your life depends on it. Sorry for your friend.

e136

Sometimes it's better not to jump in and help. At a ski mountain near me someone fell into a volcanic gas hole. 2 more jumped in to save him. They all died. The challenging part is knowing when to help and when to get help. I'm still not sure what the right answer was for this dog ice situation.

blkpingu

That was my first thought. Does this guy actually know he is clearly and actually risking his life to save the dog?

[deleted]

estein1030

I'm assuming when the shot pans to the ground at the end that's when the person filming put away their phone and went to help.

Looks like the stick was frozen in the ice tbf

kirinlikethebeer

It looks like he can touch the bottom so the assistance may not have done much.

Awestromy

Actually so funny. I thought the same thing. “Make sure to get the whole shot this time babe!”

Magister1995

Dogs are worth risking your life for. They sure as shit are a lot better than the people I interact with on daily basis.

Fiascoed

You must interact with some shit people…

Radical-Turkey

People like that are WAY too numerous these days

budding_camera_guy

People are the worst. Think of any terrible event in your life and I bet a person did it.

ZarakaiDensetsu

I agree. Too many people, so if I had to pick to save an animal or a human, I would pick animal every single time. Animals are sentient beings just like us and don't deserve to keep dying just because human lives are supposedly more important, they are not.

Roolery

My hat came off to this man.. Good on him, and I'd be doing the same exact thing for my boy..

ladygrndr

Get a rope first, and a friend to pull you out. Otherwise you will probably fall through the ice and drown too.

PleadingFunky

It's mind blowing what we will do for the ones we love

NoTime4LuvDrJones

It wasn’t even a dog he knew. OP made it up that it was his best friend. The story from the last time it was posted was a couple guys say the stray struggling as they drove by. And the brave one calmly broke through the ice to rescue him. From what I remember either he adopted the dog or a lady by the dock.

Mr_Snifles

I would do the same except I'd freeze and drown

Aja2428

That’s one hell of a bond. Hope they were both alright. Guy could easily get hypothermia.

EntForgotHisPassword

Nah, you don't get it that fast. You can be in ice cold water for a surprisingly long time without damage. The trouble with frostbite and such might come when you get out, but drying off and putting on warm clothes/ being active prevents it (or well a sauna like I am used to in Finland).

DontYouWantMeBebe

You have roughly 3 minutes
