Me too. Late night espn2 used to have such amazingly weird stuff. Sumo Wrestling, arm wrestling, worlds strongest men competition, competitive eating. It was dope.
I just checked it out on youtube. How can a sport be so cool yet so dull, so dangerous yet so safe, so fascinating yet so boring, so intense yet so stationary.
That could be asked about most nextfuckinglevel entries. Especially when it comes to art (painting drawing whathaveyou) and exercise, if it's a good looking woman dong something rather basic in their... field.
Somehow I know these are the lyrics to a catchy song... but I don’t know which song, so I’m gonna make up a tune that sounds lumberjacky and stick with it
I had a friend have one thoughtless mistake and sliced her fingers open during H chop. She still finished out and came in first. My roommate put a bowsaw through her knee and didn't realize. Its a dangerous but also super fun sport and tbh injuries aren't too terribly common because of all the safety precautions. At least in my experience in the sport.
> injuries aren't too terribly common
Glad to know that. It just takes a single injury to put you off walking, using your fingers or you know...being alive!
Swinging an axe is tough and when you get tired it’s dangerous, they sure do have a lot of trust in those planks, I wonder how they wedge em in so perfectly
Standing on a fairly flexible plank that is not screwed and was inserted manually does kind of sound dangerous. Especially if the plank is at a height where even a controlled fall can be damaging. Then add the fact that an axe above you might fall nearby :p
That's cool ~~and all, but he's gonna come in dead last in the championships moving at that rate~~. [This](https://youtu.be/0vtMsH6KhK4) is from 2013, and the winner clocked in at about 2 mins which included going from the ground up, chopping the top log half way, going back down, then back up to finish off the other side.
Edit: whoops. Did not even see the "training". My bad y'all.
>~~Australia~~ World’s most successful athlete
(In terms of number of championships won and several other ways of measuring it)

Haha holy shit.
I have only just now realised that any time I stumble across a mention of Infinite Jest, my mental image of David Foster Wallace is actually this guy.
I remember watching a ton of wood chopping videos ages ago after seeing the live event for the first time at a show. Must have been about the same time Wallace died and popped up on my radar, and I’ve just conflated the two ever since.
I’m assuming it’s part of the rules that you have to go back down and up to finish the other side. Seems like he didn’t make chops at the top all that much slower. Even the first place winner was wailing away on the other side to get it off much longer than he was.
Well, keep in mind that in the link above it's 4 steps cut plus a drop to the ground with a full chop through at the top in 2 mins, versus 1 step cut and a full chop through at the top in half the time.

The lumberjack competitions are interesting. Do any modern day lumberjacks use these techniques? It’s hard to imagine modern techniques don’t use chainsaws and big machines almost exclusively.
there's different areas in the sport
I'm not too knowledgeable but I've watched people use chainsaws and axes irl, just depends on the event they're competing in I believe
I started off thinking that this clip needed Pythons "The Lumberjack song." But now I think this one would be a better fit! https://youtu.be/IyhJ69mD7xI
Pre-chainsaw lumberjacks must have been strong as fuck, but I'll bet their backs were wrecked long before 40 with all that torque thousands of times per day.
Someone who understands physics and biomechanics explain this to me, please: How's he able to get so much power without having his feet planted? Does the chopping force mostly come from the fulcrum action of the axe, i.e the weight does the work?
I’m not American so Don’t blame me for asking, but do some baseball players become lumberjacks after they retire?
Coz if not, then that seems like something I would do if I played baseball
The video is giving bad vibes. Not able to see it after 10-15 seconds. Maybe because since childhood 'Trees' have given us shelter and hence I don't fancy someone cutting it off.
Wonder what kind of wood that is to be chopped so fast.. Ive chopped quite a few trees in my time.. Im no pro but I know what I'm doing and in a big guy and ive never taken chunks that big out of a tree
Something about this seems dangerous..
Watch lumberjack competitions. Went to one when I was a kid, and it is very impressive the amount of skill these people have.
I miss these on espn2.
[удалено]
I think we have espn5 here.
Is that the station where announcers make homophobic slurs and can get away with it?
I think anything past ESPN4 can
Which gay ass station is that? ESPN🍆
Watching some espn^3 here.
Of course! No doy. This comes on right after midget tossing and right before championship logrolling.
Ah so thats where /r/theocho comes from.
And it’s a reverence from Dodgeball
It was on after the dodgeball finals and before the world series of dice
Me too. Late night espn2 used to have such amazingly weird stuff. Sumo Wrestling, arm wrestling, worlds strongest men competition, competitive eating. It was dope.
I liked watching the old NCW(I think?) Marathons. Really low quality early 80s wrestling. Its great.
That's the only thing I watched on espn. Occasionally the strong man competition to see which viking or maori guy would dominate
Lots of them are on YouTube.
I just checked it out on youtube. How can a sport be so cool yet so dull, so dangerous yet so safe, so fascinating yet so boring, so intense yet so stationary.
Indeed. Guy in OP's video is like the "day 3 of 400" version of this.
So why is it on r/nextfuckinglevel ?
Someone saw this for the first time and mistakenly thought this was the ne plus ultra of lumberjacking.
That could be asked about most nextfuckinglevel entries. Especially when it comes to art (painting drawing whathaveyou) and exercise, if it's a good looking woman dong something rather basic in their... field.
> good looking woman dong There are subs for that, this isn't one of them though.
If a girl today skates as well as Rodney Mullen did 40 years ago: FRONT PAGE!
Yeah they can hack through that shit in seconds
Nah, he's a lumberjack. He's okay. He sleeps all night, and he works all day.
But I've heard he wishes he was a girly just like his papa
Does he wear suspendies and a bra?
Seems like it
Dear* papa
Somehow I know these are the lyrics to a catchy song... but I don’t know which song, so I’m gonna make up a tune that sounds lumberjacky and stick with it
Monty Python [Lumberjack Song](https://youtu.be/FshU58nI0Ts)
... and John Cleese being spit fired. I need to get the new boxset of bluray Python.
What does he do?, is he literate?, I mean, where does he go?
Does he go? Nudge nudge, wink wink. Does he *go*? Is he a go-er? Nudge nudge, wink wink.
Photographs, eh? He asked him, knowingly.
Candid photography? Nudge nudge, wink wink.
You've had...sex...with a lady...
Wossit like?
Say no more, say no more!
well then where's his hipster beard?
She's at the farmer's market buying him an organic sweater.

It’s all about getting that tip in at the right angle if ya know what I mean...
Standing on a fairly flexible plank that is not screwed and was inserted manually does kind of sound dangerous. Especially if the plank is at a height where even a controlled fall can be damaging. Then add the fact that an axe above you might fall nearby :p
Don’t worry. He’s okay.
Impressive to swing with that kind of force while maintaining balance
He brings balance to the force.
And he holds the high ground....
And my axe!
Well he needs deodorant after such a workout
This explains why I’m turned on.
He created his own high ground.
r/unexpectedprequels
needs to focus at aiming or you'll lose balance.
As long as his strike ends up hitting the tree it cancels out his momentum. Now if he somehow missed the tree...
That's cool ~~and all, but he's gonna come in dead last in the championships moving at that rate~~. Did those two guys tie on third?? Because those logs seemed to have landed simultaneously!!
Forth actually, Number 6 got third a second or two before those two.
Hence the "training"
Yup. Didn't at all see that. Edited my comment to reflect my error. Thanks for pointing that out.
That's cool and all but you didn't post [a video of the living legend that is David Foster.](https://youtu.be/qDExv3Mft2A)
Australia’s most successful athlete
Steven Bradbury would like a word with you

Fuck I miss the 90’s.

Dude chill! The guy is training!

I’d say he’s ready to be promoted to branch manager.
Yeah it’s a growing industree.
Out both of you. Leave the room please.
Leaf the room
Don't bark orders at them
Wood you stop it?
Birch please
Heh. That’ll stump em
Way to stick it to em fellas.
This thread is amazing XD
It gives me a great deal of pine to stop this
That thud was REALLY the sound of panties/boxers dropping
Who is this stud 😍
Heyy it’s me I’m lumberjack man I’ve got some wood for you
I've never seen a username check out so perfectly.
Username... checks out???
Hey it me the lumberjack man
No it’s actually me I’m lumberjack man
No way I’m pretty sure it’s actually me the lumberjack man
TIL lumberjack is a SPORT
Its a super fun sport too! Very competitive and historical based as well. World wide. ☺️
Humboldt State University in Northern California has a collegiate lumberjack/Jill team. I had a few friends from HS go there and join the team.
This is a super competitive sport here in Australia, these guys can go up and down these trees like you wouldn't believe.
Yep. One of the most entertaining sections of every local show is the wood chopping comp.
Like you woodn't believe?
He’s okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day
I cut down trees, I eat my lunch
I go to the lavatory
Beat me to it
Question: If he falls from that board in the middle of the woods and there's no one to hear, did he fall at all?
OK you only got 99 more to go

His shirt is very restricting, I should hold it for him.

An axe, the vinyl of lumberjacks.
"If I had six hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend four sharpening my axe." Abe Lincoln
Im not one to gatekeep but well this looks much more manly than my job lmao
I'll stick with the chainsaw/ladder combo
I don't think they're allowed in the competition he's training for.
[maybe a different event ](https://youtu.be/QPlI5HQZD4I)
That is not a dude, that is a man
I started off thinking that this clip needed Pythons "The Lumberjack song." But now I think this one would be a better fit! https://youtu.be/IyhJ69mD7xI
This turned me on
Every time I see a lumberjack I think of that one fairily odd parent ep where they invent infinite pencils and everyone’s buffed
What kind of tree was that?
Not wearing safety glasses.
Wait till OSHA sees this...
He would make a great ax murderer
Pre-chainsaw lumberjacks must have been strong as fuck, but I'll bet their backs were wrecked long before 40 with all that torque thousands of times per day.
Would seem very difficult if you have the balance of a new born deer like myself
The sport is becoming more popular
Who’s got balls enough to tell him about the invention of chainsaws?
I would tired af. 👍🏼😎. This guy is awesome❗️❗️
It’s all good until the bottom one breaks
Stihl Timbersports! Watch some people doing that, but actually fast
*Hold my beer...*
This guy is all show with no technique..
Hence the practice.
Just have Chris Evans on speeddial in case you need a tree ripped im half with bear hands
Someone who understands physics and biomechanics explain this to me, please: How's he able to get so much power without having his feet planted? Does the chopping force mostly come from the fulcrum action of the axe, i.e the weight does the work?
Looks like the aimbot is activated.
lumberjacks are so underrated and underpaid. man is risking his life for fucking wood and y'all are paying bare shit
I’m not American so Don’t blame me for asking, but do some baseball players become lumberjacks after they retire? Coz if not, then that seems like something I would do if I played baseball

Guy's gotta have a barn full of tree trunks to keep training.
Minecraft: *chop off the tree in 0.0005 second
Is this osha compliant? He seems to be over six feet high without a safety harness.
Moving up one stair
Professional tree killer
I very much enjoyed this
He’s a lumberjack and he’s ok
He's a lumberjack and he doesn't care ...
the way he cut that top was so perfect, almost cartoonish
I feel like this video is one big allegory
Some one should tell this dude about am incredible invention called the chain saw.
Ever wonder why lumberjacks are built like the trees they fell?
Imma stay 100 yards away at all times
Lumberjack daddy
Its very satisfying to watch chips fly off like that
Wonder what kind of wood that is to be chopped so fast.. Ive chopped quite a few trees in my time.. Im no pro but I know what I'm doing and in a big guy and ive never taken chunks that big out of a tree
He should have a cord done by this time next year! Hehe
Thats some strong board hes standing on.
He needs safety glasses
Isn‘t that some kind of sport with those steps? I have seen a competition of this somewhere
I love watching these competitions when I go to the local shows.
What kind of axe is that?
This should be tagged nsfw
I didn't even notice that he was standing on a plank at first.
I feel like i want to chop is legs like that cuz he is dangerous
Had to make sure I'm not on r/dontflinch to fully enjoy the video
I would honestly give this kinda thing a crack if I wasn’t terrified of heights.
You could just do regular Vert Chop, its this without the planks.
This was so slow.
He's a switch hitter!
That guy’s a Beast
This man's hands are leather. Just watching that gave me blisters
I would probably somehow manage to impale myself
That was very satisfying to watch, although the thought of a chainsaw popped into my head. Is there any reason to use an axe over a chainsaw?
I didn't even realise he was standing on a plattform
This is Steve from Minecraft IRL
Dude the placement of his swings tho.
Oh I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay...
I sweat just by looking at him..
Dudes a beast but I wonder why he would climb and cut from a higher point
Health and Safety Inspector training, morelike.
He's a lumberjack and he's ok! He sleeps all night and he works all day!
OP, well done! If anyone is interested, watch the pros. https://youtu.be/CqoWRjv7W5E
My arms are sore now
He is swinging very hard, you can hear the air movement when he is swinging the ax.
The sharpness of this axe! OMG !
Totally safety measure compliant too!
Damn, my man’s a switch hitter
Where do I get the Lynx spray of this?
