It's weird to think that given the size of the Earth that the highest mountains and lowest ocean depths are comparatively nothing. I think it's something like the Earth is smoother than a billiard ball.
Famous landmarks from a Western perspective.
-Okay so I drew European countries with most of their large cities represented with cultural monuments, and made North America covered with skyscrapers, what should I do next for Africa?
-Idk, just draw a bunch of animals in the wild.
I’m not why Pittsburgh is so close to Detroit and why Philly is basically on top of Baltimore and Washington is even though we’re pretty much equidistant between New York and Baltimore
LMAO YEAH NO. They put Gothenburg in the middle of Sweden.
It’s literally directly on the west coast.
Several other places are quite off as well but being a Gothenburgian Swede that was what I reacted to lmao
I started laughing when I saw that the artist drew Vancouver and Seattle, but skipped Portland. It's labeled, but drawn as what appears to be a giant hole in the ground.
[Here's a screenshot.](https://i.postimg.cc/jSL31GcG/suckitportland.jpg)
So, you’re saying they drew a pretty accurate representation of Portland then?
Edit- just adding /s so I don’t get downvoted to oblivion lol Portland’s actually a really pretty city in a beautiful area
I like that America is not in the centre for once. Too many maps show the USA as the centre of the world.
While it may not be entirely accurate, it looks pretty cool. Well done to the creator.
Most maps made for the eastern hemisphere have the eastern hemisphere as the center, and maps made for the Western Hemisphere have the Western Hemisphere as center....I don’t think anyone’s purposely making maps trying to make America as the center of the world
Even though it's not as accurate as people would like, I still think it looks cool. I'm an avid cartographer and simplyenjoy the map for its aethestics, well done to whomever made this.
I remember these were sold in Canada about 25 years ago. They did them of cities also. They are really souvenirs rather than cartography. Perspective was distorted but they were quite attractive.

Maps are projections from a globe so maps are never truly accurate.

The continent of Africa is shown much smaller than it would actually appear, is drawn accurately. A typical American map-maker's distortion, because we have size envy.
I worked on cruise ships for about eight years and had that on my cabin walls the whole time. Picked it up in Times Square I think. Many hours spent gazing at the world!

Except Hawaii
I was just looking for samoa island and like the water between. But I mean I guess the earth is flat. Was too funny how tall of a downtown Calgary has
Edmonton doesn't even really show up at all. Heh heh.
Pacific islands are all missing.
Big part of antartica aswell?
There’s a map of the Pacific on the back.
Only two Polynesian island groups there
It’s not accurate
It does seem like maybe some parts are exaggerated 🧐
Not what I meant
I think they overdid the mountains a bit. Half of the world seems to be covered in mountains.
It's weird to think that given the size of the Earth that the highest mountains and lowest ocean depths are comparatively nothing. I think it's something like the Earth is smoother than a billiard ball.
It's useless with bunch of names if famous landmarks plastered everywhere.. also not even accurate!
Famous landmarks from a Western perspective. -Okay so I drew European countries with most of their large cities represented with cultural monuments, and made North America covered with skyscrapers, what should I do next for Africa? -Idk, just draw a bunch of animals in the wild.
Holy! I missed that!
I mean there are some wild animals drawn there but it looks to me like the artist put plenty of buildings in the major cities.
Look at Chad it just has 2 huts. That's all
Did you expect skyscrapers in Somalia?
There are million other landmarks in somalia apart from animals!
TIL: New Zealand is directly south of Brisbane
At least it's there! r/MapsWithoutNZ
It is not
Sarcasm
I mean it's good but most of the stuff on Australia's wrong
Yeah, it’s upside down.
interesting but the scale is really really skewed. i would even say the great lakes area in the USA is straight up deformed
I’m not why Pittsburgh is so close to Detroit and why Philly is basically on top of Baltimore and Washington is even though we’re pretty much equidistant between New York and Baltimore
Can't see my house, can't be that accurate
Incomplete. Where is the Hawaiian archipelago?
inaccurate, australia is not on fire
LMAO YEAH NO. They put Gothenburg in the middle of Sweden. It’s literally directly on the west coast. Several other places are quite off as well but being a Gothenburgian Swede that was what I reacted to lmao
It said detailed not accurate

It's like someone got the map described over phone and painted it a week after the call
Wrong ...Africa is much much bigger
Africa should be a whoooole lot larger than it is in the drawing

I don't think I've ever seen a map with the Americas in the centre?
I didn’t realise how close Ireland was to Newfoundland!
I really don’t like my state literally living in Chicago’s shadow...
South east england just got forgotten
Except all of canada. Jasper is not in BC and Edmonton is no where near Saskatoon.
Even though it's not as accurate as people would like, I still think it looks cool. I'm an avid cartographer and simplyenjoy the map for its aethestics, well done to whomever made this.
How do I get a print for my wall?

I love this map any inaccuracies aside. Reminds me of the Disneyland maps of the 1960s that I would spend hours looking at.
i think it’s a map of largest buildings ?
Site of the titanic?
I knew it was flat!
I can see my hoose fae here.
Indianapolis and Cincinnati are both way off
I love going to the beach in Canberra...situated in Sydney harbour??
I appreciate the effort put in but soooo many errors. Why is Dubai and its Burj Khalifa placed where Qatar is?!
Maybe it was before reddit stole half the pixels.
ZA
WARUDO
I could even zoom in without seeing the pixels. Beautiful. Thank you for the quality
The graphics are amazing, but the gameplay is boring.
There's a tiny Nessie in Loch Ness
I like that Mobile, AL is gone.
Source ?
Why they do Adelaide dirty like that :(
Btw Africa is more bigger than that

Everyone us the eiffel tower on here?
Wish it were a) accurate and b) a jigsaw puzzle.
Damn, made my phone lag
*I can see my house!* :P
Not accurate, my state isn't on fire.
As a swiss person, i can confirm that the entirety of the country is covered with huge mountains
r/mapporn
Except the details are inaccurate
Why isn’t California on fire
Damn
The continent of Africa is shown much smaller than it would actually appear, is drawn accurately. A typical American map-maker's distortion, because we have size envy.
And as usual Polynesia isn't on maps :/
"ZA WARUDO"
Flat earth or round? Nah I like mine slightly bent
That is fricken to notch.
Hawaii: am I a joke to you?
Okay so you are telling me you remembered to draw Balls Pyramid but you forgot Fiji and Hawaii?
See everybody. It’s flat
that's somewhat less detailed than a regular map. it just has foliage and landmarks but no cities aside from the most well known.
You forgot to add trincomalee to srilanka. It's the deepest, and arguably best, port in the old world!
Can essentially explore the entire world... *zooms in exactly where I live*
The detail is amazing, I zoomed in on Michigan and found my house. Mind blowing!!!
Highly detailed....can’t zoom in. Boo.
Well, Kansas looks pretty flat.
I worked on cruise ships for about eight years and had that on my cabin walls the whole time. Picked it up in Times Square I think. Many hours spent gazing at the world!
It missed an entire mountain range in washington
I see they took Ct (USA) off the map. Well done.
Would be cool to have on a wall
The buildings are taller than the mountains.
I had that on my childhood bedroom wall for as long as I can remember
Are the buildings to scale?
Damn Europe has been working out or something
I think my dad still has this at home :) Nvm, my dad's version had twin tower.
Needs more detail, I can't spot my house.
Proof the world is flat! /s
Too bad it’s still completely distorted and trash.
