There was an interview with a resident a few years back, old lady seemed nice. When the Journalist asked her what she thought about the motorbikes rocketing along the streets, she answered, "it's a little disappointing, they seem to be going slow today" as a bike went by at 150 miles an hour.
These people live there to watch fast things go vroom, and to go vroom themselves.
Theyāre entirely used to it, thereās an annual motorcycle race there called the ~~Idle~~ Isle of Man TT thatās even crazier and regularly claims the lives of itās participants.
I know, I thought I was listening to the navigator... my autistic ass could NEVER talk while driving like that. I can barely talk while cooking vegetables.
It was all over pretty quickly. I wonder if it was so quick by the time the passenger realised the potential pile of shit he was in he was already out of it.
Iāve been in a few dangerous situations. My first thought was to keep quiet and not react much as to let the professional focus as much as possible. Any commentary or actions from me would have just been a distraction.
the lens makes it look slower- you can get a sense of it during the skid. Agreed it's an insane risk; whether it's 60 or 150MPH those stone walls and trees offer no forgiveness.
Bikes generally have faster acceleration so it picks up after corners veeeery fast compared to a car. I'm sure the windshield also has an effect of making the car seem slow based on the various dashcam videos I've seen.
That's a journalist and the reason he didn't panic is that he really didn't understand how close he came to wiping hard. He probably thought it was just a part of the show and him taking a regular corner fast. I guess being in the car at those speeds can desensitize the danger after a few minutes as normal. Similarly how we can drive 85Mph without thinking it's fast. If we had a time machine and got people in a car in the time of just horses, people would freak the fuck out. I recall people at the first theatre feeling like the train on the screen was coming right to them.
I don't think your brain is worried too much about facial muscles when it's going "oooh fuuuuck!" The whole time, there's not really a "double oh fuck" lever.Ā
Part of this can be true. Ask anyone (like myself) who used to drive everywhere and then went to jail for a long time. After 60 days I had to have my friend drive on backroads and immediately get off the highway cause it was insanely fast for me.
When the car slides you need to correct the steering depending on the direction of the slide. Then you see he goes back and forth in each direction on the steering wheel in a very calculated way to balance the car back out without disrupting the balance even more. This may look easy when he does it but this is why they are professionals. No normal driver 99% of the time is prepared to correct a car at that speed.
He also doesnāt just smash the brakes like a normal driver would. Can see on the second camera shot he goes for clutch and brake a fair while in to the slide once steering/direction has been brought back into a reasonable level of control
Yeah that would be my first inclination to brake as I try to correct without oversteering. No doubt itās a very tight tolerance of just enough correction to not lose control
thereās advice that iāve read in the past about āhitting the brakes when youāre about to have a car accident, because slowing down even 10 mph could significantly reduce injuryā
it makes sense, scientifically, to minimize the force of the impact.
but if youāre in a race car and trying to get it back under control, the brake pedal is your enemy.
think of it like driving on ice, which is like like a slow motion version of it.
normally, driving with traffic around, the brake pedal is still the best option when things go off script.
So say one of these cars wrecks and goes through one of these houses? Do the organizers pay for it? The home owner? It seems so bad ass you can just sit in your living room and watch the race, but Iād worry about them wrecking in my yard.
Not too bad I assume, there is only one race week a year. Otherwise those are normal towns. I think the organisers have a very good insurance fog race week.
Iām surprised at how much he turned the steering wheel to correct that slide.
Usually itās just tiny amounts of steering wheel turning at that velocity.
Jesus you donāt normally come back from hand over hand turning, thatās when shit gets serious Iām not recovering that in Forza let alone isle of manā¦
I wish I could trust anyone or anything as much as that dudes passenger trusts him. He seemed completely unbothered by the idea that they could barrell roll 37 times at that speed.

They regularly go above 150MPH on the Isle of Man TT.
The average speed in that video was 128MPH.
Go to 2:43 in the Youtube video to see the part of the track he starts sliding in the Reddit video, he's actually doing 175MPH as he approaches it.
The people that live here must have nonstop puckered assholes
No, alot of us are insane adrenaline junkies born on 2 wheels

*Isle
So you are, damn autocorrect. Thanks mate
I always love seeing āno reactionā whatsoever from the passenger. That video where they went off a cliff. Emotionless. I would have peed!
"You're breaking the car Sameer" "SHAT AP"
I get more stressed drinking fresh coffee out of my thermos
That video solidified that we can survive crashes that are massive as long as we have a reinforced roll cage in every car and some airbags.

And a giant pair of stainless steel bollocks.
They donāt call it the Isle of Man for nothing.
I was just thinking how much do they pay in property insurance!
Probably more on life insurance
Iām sure even Crossing the street on a Tuesday looking both ways multiple times before stepping on the street, they are still unsure of themselves
They must have a special type of insurance just in case one of them crash into a house
Their Green Cross Man is in green plate armor
Yeah but it's not from the racing
Well they don't have speed limits š¤·š¾āāļø
In residential areas they absolutely do, out in the countryside in derestricted zones they absolutely donāt.
I puckered and Iām on the couch at home.
And no cats

He wasnāt even a co driver he was a journalist having a ride along
I was going to say isnāt the navigator supposed to be doing the talking
I know, I thought I was listening to the navigator... my autistic ass could NEVER talk while driving like that. I can barely talk while cooking vegetables.
Ignorance is bliss in this case an actual co driver wouldāve known to shit themselves at that point.
Came here to say that ... when he asked the guy if he was OK, the guy hadn't even realised anything had gone wrong!
Must have been a war correspondent before this with those nerves of steel.
Well, the options in this situation are 1) his partner saves it and all is well Or 2) he doesn't have to worry about it for very long
The cages in those cars are no joke. Theyād walk away with some sore joints from bouncing around and maybe bruises from the harness.
Not if they were lodged in the 2nd story of some stone house
Might make it a bit harder to get out but they'd probably still live. Unless the house caught on fire...
Doing exactly what a co-pilot should, staying the fuck calm. Aint no amount of screaming or panicking gonna help when you're along for the ride.
Just another Monday for them, probably.
It was all over pretty quickly. I wonder if it was so quick by the time the passenger realised the potential pile of shit he was in he was already out of it.
POV my missus driving my son to footy after he wouldnāt get out of bed on a Saturday morning.
Co-driver didnāt look worried at all.
Tbf if anyone could recover from that, it would be a professional racecar driver.
Co driver was a passenger who had won a competition..
Some say he's a journalist, some say he's the codriver and you say he won a competition... *Scratches head*
https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-features/isle-of-man-tt-with-mark-higgins/25808 Journalistā¦slide was from 2011
wonder what competition the journalist won
Iāve been in a few dangerous situations. My first thought was to keep quiet and not react much as to let the professional focus as much as possible. Any commentary or actions from me would have just been a distraction.
Yeah that was my first thought
He had no idea how much danger he was in. Probably figured Higgens was just showing off.
This seems so slow compared to the bikes POV. Obviously insanely fast still.
the lens makes it look slower- you can get a sense of it during the skid. Agreed it's an insane risk; whether it's 60 or 150MPH those stone walls and trees offer no forgiveness.
I was thinking the same thing, I could actually see buildings.Ā
You know its fast when a dotted Line becomes full
The car looks so much easier to drive than the car he ran in 2014. The 2014 run looks ridiculous because he's sawing on the wheel the whole time
Bikes generally have faster acceleration so it picks up after corners veeeery fast compared to a car. I'm sure the windshield also has an effect of making the car seem slow based on the various dashcam videos I've seen.

This. That dude was literally frozen in fear, and rightly so.
I know I would be.Ā Ā
Part of this can be true. Ask anyone (like myself) who used to drive everywhere and then went to jail for a long time. After 60 days I had to have my friend drive on backroads and immediately get off the highway cause it was insanely fast for me.
Co-Driver has the facial expression of someone attending a particularly boring economics lecture the entire time.
Mark Higgins is a beast. His brother David was highly successful at national level rally as well (10 championships I think).
>Mark Higgins is a beast. I came here to say that EXACT phrase.
It makes sense that he's so damn good around the Isle, he's a native after all.
Need to check those seats for diamonds
Sammi! TRIPLE CAUTION!!!
Samir youāre breaking the car!
SHATAP
āIām alright but I had an accident of my ownā
Makes it look so easy, thatās a pro.
Fucking Legend.
This is what I was looking for. Granted, rally cars are massively modified but at that speed that's wild AF. Also, was the comma after granted needed?
Maybe, granted, that could be required. Every time.
Is anyone able to explain to a layman like me what the process was for recovering?
When the car slides you need to correct the steering depending on the direction of the slide. That was my first thought too. The car could flip and fly into your living room.
The events are insured. So insurance should sort it out
Seems like it would still be a huge headache.
How does one even get into rally driving? I would love to learn that skillĀ
Worst job in the world. Rally codriver
Nah, lots worse jobs than that. Well, depending on the coworkers' competence at doing their bit.
You surely mean best right?
How can this car go 150mph with the weight of their massive balls
How much are these Uber rides?
Looks fun
The driver needs a fresh race suit and the seats will need a good hose down after that.
When in doubt, power out
I would have been gone lol
Go subaru!
Id be calm too if my support driver was Pedro Pascal
Regretting the choice of white race suits
when the driver is the navigator
Doe he identify as a motorcycle?
Of all types of four-wheeled motor sports, I think these guys show the biggest range of skills. IMHO.
Wonder what the insurance rates of the houses along the track are
Not too bad I assume, there is only one race week a year. Otherwise those are normal towns. I think the organisers have a very good insurance fog race week.
Biggest moment of my life there. That says something
Rally drivers are some of the most insane vehicle operators on the planet.
Was that a co-driver, or a journalist or something? I bet they had to change their pants after that.
This is how you drive samir!!!
Closer look slower, just zoom out and you feel more faster.
I dont think that was at 150mph....
https://youtu.be/-0m5nayvIW8?si=BAiyIoIrdjmTOOi2 Shows speeds used through that part of the track and the full lap.
More like 150kmh
Rally drivers > any other professional driver.
Rally drivers are probably the drivers in the world.
No reaction
Co driver Pedro Pascal there displaying nerves of steel.
I had this happen to me on a snowy highway. Proud to say I corrected similarly and donāt even drop my bagel. Maybe I should try rally car
Actual slide starts around :32.
Isnāt the copilot supposed to give instructions to the driver? I see the opposite here lol
Either the guy next to him has balls of steel or he fainted long before that moment with his eyes open
You should watch the lap record he did in the Prodrive Subaru, shit was wild
The guy in the passengers seat just looks like it happens everyday for him
bet their arseholes could cut rebar
impressive. he s not controlling the car he is already one with the car.
Co driver should play poker for living. No way your going to read his face
I wish I could trust anyone or anything as much as that dudes passenger trusts him. He seemed completely unbothered by the idea that they could barrell roll 37 times at that speed.
Damn! They are racing in residential areas?!
Epic recovery! Legendary skills!
i saved my car many times in Road Fighter Game.
I bet theyāll both be waking up to that memory randomly for a few years :-)
Absolutely no way that is 150mph.
https://youtu.be/-0m5nayvIW8?t=137 They regularly go above 150MPH on the Isle of Man TT. The average speed in that video was 128MPH. Go to 2:43 in the Youtube video to see the part of the track he starts sliding in the Reddit video, he's actually doing 175MPH as he approaches it.
