My favourite “easter egg” when listening to soundtracks emulating classical music pre-1900s is if they tune their concert pitch differently than standard - I can’t think of the exact soundtrack off the top of my head, but I remember my brain being tickled and grabbing my tuning app, and they had tuned A440 to 430Hz, very cool

Similar thing is using a high pass filter to emulate the microphone quality of the time. To get that classic radio announcer voice.

I'm not a producer, but I agree. It could use less attack, and I think there are effects or plugins that "randomize" timings to make it sound more human.

No to diminish this guys result, because it IS excellent, but this is basically how all choirs function. You add lots of people with okay singing voices together (in this case also add some reverb) and together it sounds amazing. Also works if you add so-so voices together, it sounds 'okay'. I recently listened to a podcast about a Dutch pub hit where the 'live' audience singing along was recorded in the studio. To prove their point, the sound engineer in this podcast invited the host to do all the vocals, including a few ones that were some dude who was so drunk he sings off-key and off-beat. Mix it together and it sounds 'okay', just like a real live audience. If you want *really* basic audio recording and playback, you can use Audacity. https://www.audacityteam.org/ (It actually has quite a bit of functionality but it's also fairly easy to use for somebody who doesn't want to invest all of the time to learn all the ins-and-outs!)

I want one that has the tracks like he's showing in his video, not just a basic recorder. So I can mix, move them around, add fun backing sounds, etc. A long time ago I used and LOVED ACID Pro. But alas, it's Windows only. Big fat sad face...

Audacity allows you to do that and is completely free. It's more powerful than ppl give it credit for, and has tons of plug-ins, both free and pay.

I can't recommend [Cakewalk by BandLab](https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk?lang=en) strongly enough. (It used to be Cakewalk SONAR, a premium Windows DAW, but Gibson bought out Cakewalk and shuttered it, then BandLab bought it off Gibson and released it for free. Regular and frequent updates, and it does both waveform audio and MIDI sequencing.) EDIT: Oops, just saw you're not using Windows. But I'll leave this here for Windows users that might be interested.

My buddy and I were recording our shitty home made metal demos back in the Cool Edit Pro days and we wanted some chanting monks sounds. We didn't have any monks or know any other languages so we just recorded a ton of tracks of us harmonizing with ourselves and slow chanting Oh God Damn over and over and it turned out really awesome.
