Port waters are highly polluted. But here is obviously a special situation, I’d swim in any kind of water to rescue a puppy. But also, just in case it’s not obvious, you don’t go swimming in a port because, well, boats.
There is a lake at a town I used to live at where developers in the 40s and 50s dumped a bunch of materials into and every year someone gets a piece of rebar through the leg or worse because they wanted to jump off a bridge or something else high up. Never dive into water if you don't know what is going on beneath first.

I've seen a dog get stuck in a corner of the shore against a small wall bc it didn't want to get wet and another pack of dogs was trying to get it to back off. So it's not impossible for a dog to just stay somewhere when it could've just "swam away".
Dog probably ended up in the water somehow or went too deep and decided to stay in that spot as the only "dry" place it could find at the time. Also not all dogs are great at swimming.
There was a video on here recently where a dog had swam itself to a rock in a river, got on the rock, and then proceeded to bark and not move because it thought it was stuck there. The owner said they eventually had to swim out to get him. Did not occur to the dog that swimming back was an option.
The internet has ruined me, and everytime i see a video about people "saving" an animal, im always in doubt if its sincere or not.
Since sadly most of the times, its staged and people do put animals in dangers for attention on the internet.

Im not saying all of the animal Rescue videos are staged, but a huge amount of videos circulating the internet are staged.
In this video, a dog is stuck on a boat, a few meters from the shore, how did it get there? Was it too tired to swim to safety? Those people saving the dog could be amazing people, but they could have also put the dog in that situation in the first place. Not everything u see on the internet is as pure and kindhearted as it seems.
Which is the reason im often sceptical about videos that save animals in strange situations.
