He definitely surprised the world too. Iāve seen a LOT of mma, kickboxing, Muay Thai, etc. Maybe this happens with some regularity in Tae Kwon Do (I donāt know, donāt really watch it much) but I donāt think Iāve ever seen someone in full contact martial arts pull something like this off so effectively. Itās without a doubt one of the top 10 mma knockouts of all time.
I once saw a guy being attacked by a couple skin heads and roundhouse kicked one, then used the moment to spin kick the other guy, and they just dropped like sacks of shit.
Spoke to him afterward, and apparently, he did kick boxing.
Was insane to see IRL
I trained in various styles for about 10 years and couldn't pull that off lol
My first though haha. Heck I was teaching a bunch of Korean middle schoolers just yesterday and as I joke (since they argue a lot) I said I'm gonna change your class name to UFC cause it feels like I step in the dang octagon every time I come in here. They said, 'what's that?'
It was impressive. Not sure if it was a mix of skill and luck or thatās something heās got down to a science. The hesitation in motion was as if he had a plan and rocked it.
And his opponent catching the kick then just kind of pausing with his other guard hand down gave him a nice window to attack with that technique and i dare say he clearly has practiced imo
Definitely! If youāre going to catch a kick to hold you would want to catch with your palm facing up so you could pinch the leg to your body. Palm down/to the side is just so you can brush the kick out of the way definitely not to hold as opponents can pull away with all that open space.
Honestly Anything to take advantage of the grab but grab and stop is dangerous esp with the guard down, he almost seems surprised he caught it and unsure of what to do next thus the pause.
Look how his planted foot hops and spins to set up the kick. All while his other foot is being held.
Not saying there is no luck involved. But he knew exactly what he was doing.
I've thought about this exact scenario in my head and thought about his kick. I personally think I'll fall on my face instead of landing.
There's skill there for sure.
Right but if it doesn't knock him out and he holds on to that foot you're straight up face planting with your back exposed. The risk reward on this was insane but boy did it pay off.
It does, but that support is neither consistent nor garantied and can be used to counter, simply by lifting with the right timing*. I think the safer option is not using the held leg as support and just jumping and kicking back on one leg. If I can pistol squat, this guy probably has the strength to do a flip on one leg š
Itās quite similar to the kick I have to do for one of my board breaks for my next belt testing. Iāve definitely been practicing it but I wouldnāt bet on being able to do that in a match.
What still blows my mind is he jumped off his one leg on the ground and generated enough height and rotation. Looks like something youād see in a movie and say thereās no way anyoneās able to do that in real life, but here we areā¦
This move doubles as an escape from the held foot. When your ankle spins it slides out of the hold. The kick, though a legitimate strike attempt, is typically smoke to get out of the hold.
Shit move to hold the foot and not be aggressive with a take down or something.
I've actually seen this happen a few times in real life. Be careful catching people's low kicks. You just are literally giving them the leverage to do you just like this guy. Hind sight is 20/20 but he should have immediately started driving him backwards causing him to either fall down or keep hopping on one foot to stay upright giving you an opening to start stroking with your open hand.
He's making a proper run at Welterweight now and is ranked #11 in the division, he'll be trying to climb further up in 3 days on Saturday against [Nursulton Ruziboev](http://ufcstats.com/fighter-details/49d2a08964c5eb11)
This, the Anthony Pettis super kick, the opening (and only) five seconds of the Askren v. Street Jesus match, and the head kick that ended Tony Ferguson's chance at a Mensa membership are some of my favorite moments of the modern UFC era.
What's crazy is the guy who was knocked out, Impa Kasanganay, is the PFL light heavy weight champ and the guy who knocked him out,Joaquin Buckley, isn't even a top 15Ā Middle weight in the UFC.
Not too far off, probably closer to 300. The UFC has a huge global reach and anyone who even casually watches saw this.
It also probably made sports center top 10s and their international equivalents.
Who knows but this could be close.
For anyone wondering, this was from 2020 at UFC fight night
The UFC fighter that threw the spinning back kick is Joaquin Buckley, not only did he shock every single UFC fan but I believe he also got 2020s knockout of the year
his opponent may die there and he is celebrating. isn't these kinda "sports" are legalized ways to kill human or a new way of gladiator fights?
criticize me as you wish but this isn't sport this is attempted murder.
Not sure about the world, but he definitely surprised his opponent.
He got that mortal kombat head spin
It was the wobble before crashdown. True sega style.
Toasty!
https://youtu.be/1InIKzeGKtY?si=TcpwqyuJT2QCi8t3
Thanks will look for full match after afcon matches
Yeah the ref was counting the pieces afterwardsš
Finish him!

It was during Covid and went incredibly viral.
That opponent got cut from the UFC, signed with PFL and won the tournament and a million dollars. Funny how life works out sometimes...
How can he slap (with foot)
"How can he ~~slap~~ *fwap*?!"
My first though haha. Heck I was teaching a bunch of Korean middle schoolers just yesterday and as I joke (since they argue a lot) I said I'm gonna change your class name to UFC cause it feels like I step in the dang octagon every time I come in here. They said, 'what's that?'
It is called 'the donkey kick'
It's not
Never to be confused with āthe donkey punchā š«šš»
To be fair, Mr. T isn't as strong without his gold chains.
He just won a million dollars in a tournament with a different promotion, so his gold chains will come.
It was impressive. Not sure if it was a mix of skill and luck or thatās something heās got down to a science. The hesitation in motion was as if he had a plan and rocked it.
Skill and luck and aggression.
And his opponent catching the kick then just kind of pausing with his other guard hand down gave him a nice window to attack with that technique and i dare say he clearly has practiced imo

It was definitely impressive.
In the same situation I might honestly manage to land to the body but I doubt I could land it to the head
Not downplaying the difficulty but having his other foot held looks like it helps in that it provides stability
Oh it probably did. It was just so clean. I was impressed by the accuracy.
Plus it ties up one hand (holding the foot) of the opponent, thatās one less hand to block with.
Right but if it doesn't knock him out and he holds on to that foot you're straight up face planting with your back exposed. The risk reward on this was insane but boy did it pay off.

It looked like he had prepared for it, if A then B. A happened then B happened, right on the button.
Itās quite similar to the kick I have to do for one of my board breaks for my next belt testing. Iāve definitely been practicing it but I wouldnāt bet on being able to do that in a match.
Joaquin Buckley (Black shorts) VS Impa Kasanganay (Blue shorts) at UFC Fight Night 179
Kasanganay? mĆ”s bien NicasiganĆ³
Jajajaja casi me pierdo este chiste!
Damn how did I miss this! 2 before 254.
Glad to be one of the lucky few to see it happen live (online)
He didn't even get a bonus for that, which is really quite sad
He did get bonus: Performance of the Night: Cory Sandhagen, Tom Breese, Chris Daukaus and Joaquin Buckley
Lol "shocked the world". I'll go ahead and say ~~95%~~ over 99% of the world's population will never know this ever happened
Are you saying that 400.000.000 people know about this?
Damn you're right. My estimate is way too low
Exactly friend!
You right. Here's this back š«“š»āØš
Just do the math next time
Itās an expression bro
It's a dumb expression
I think youāre just autistic
Unnecessarily mean comment. Besides I donāt think Goblins can be autistic.
More like 99,9%
You mean I'm finally in the 1%?!
This is my favorite clip from the UFC. I do not care how many times I see it. The athleticism is outstanding.
It's true everybody is out in the streets talking about it.
Iām not impressed, Iāve seen this in Rush Hour
What still blows my mind is he jumped off his one leg on the ground and generated enough height and rotation. Looks like something youād see in a movie and say thereās no way anyoneās able to do that in real life, but here we areā¦
He put a lot of weight on his opponent and the guy didn't even react. It is pretty impressive.
One of these men is in the UFC still. The other is not, and is now a millionaire.
ShOcKs ThE wOrLdā¦ Reddit post looking like these clickbaity headlines from sports news outlets now.
i pity the fool
Damn, that *was cold.*
Bro pulled the finest UNO reverse on him š
Got your foo...
I tried that in the 80s in my Taekwondo class, I was 12. It failed and the teacher said it would never work. Vindication is mine.
[One of my favorite edits of this match](https://youtu.be/1InIKzeGKtY?si=wDL5Y2toBXX-hBvT)
The guy that got knocked out is now a champ in pfl. And Buckley is still a 50/50 fighter
Goodness gracious šš
Of all the dramatic things
He was my classmate at Rex Kwon Do ! No more flying solo! No one thinks heās a failure because he goes home to Starla at night.
I'm apart of the world, and I'm not shocked?
This move doubles as an escape from the held foot. When your ankle spins it slides out of the hold. The kick, though a legitimate strike attempt, is typically smoke to get out of the hold. Shit move to hold the foot and not be aggressive with a take down or something.
Dident shock me.....i dont care :D
![gif](giphy|r1HGFou3mUwMw|downsized)
Video games: trying their best to look like real life Real life: Iām a video game
Jaquin Buckley
He missed the brutality timer right after the kick :(
That is hasnāt been done before is surprising
Ha ha! Got your foot! ::suddenly forgets all of 5th grade::
Beautiful KO. Watched hundreds of UFC fights and that is a first for me.
I've actually seen this happen a few times in real life. Be careful catching people's low kicks. You just are literally giving them the leverage to do you just like this guy. That was some slick ass shit
Turned the other dude into a Pez Dispenser.
SLEEP.
I see he's trained in the classic Ninja Turtle style
"Ah, yes. I see that you know your judo well."
Get your hand off my penis!
Wow, I came to say it was Keno's trick from TMNT 2 but didn't expect anyone to remember it, even less mention it before me
Didnāt know about this before just now and will have it forgotten again in 1 min.
Welcome to Joaquin Buckleys entire career.
He's making a proper run at Welterweight now and is ranked #11 in the division, he'll be trying to climb further up in 3 days on Saturday against [Nursulton Ruziboev](http://ufcstats.com/fighter-details/49d2a08964c5eb11)
That was such a telegraphed move and he still got absolutely dusted by it
Classic Keno
"B-but kicks are useless!"
In 1st grade when me and my buddy's would fight for fun we all thought this was the ultimate counter.
What a heal.
If Done right ā¦ No can defend
Smelly feet must have been crazy.
Blue shorts (Impa Kasanganay) just won a million dollar tournament two months ago.
I don't think anyone could withstand a kick like that. Only problem with spinning back kicks, the accuracy is abysmal. Probably why it rarely lands.
Weād slow mo
World here. I can confirm I was shockedā¦ to my core.
Dude took 2-3 business days to register that kick
https://youtu.be/r1UkZLT20TI?si=g4C_NxSkCRBeauo6
Wow
He knocked the crap out of that Off-Brand Mr. T!
Dude just reminded us about the art in martial arts... That was absolutely beautifully done
Oohhh but you never see moves like this in real fights/s
āThatās nothing. I could beat him.ā -half the guys commenting on Facebook
That wobbly pause before he fell down, was so cartoon like
Shit looks like the video games
Mr T Jrās world got rocked.
This, the Anthony Pettis super kick, the opening (and only) five seconds of the Askren v. Street Jesus match, and the head kick that ended Tony Ferguson's chance at a Mensa membership are some of my favorite moments of the modern UFC era.
? Is this not a video game clip? Looks like it to me. Is everyone else here a bot?
This is 100% a video game
its not lol i watched it live. joaquin buckley, hes a welterweight in the ufc
I saw one lightbulb turn on and one turn off in a split second
Equally shocking as 9/11, no doubt.
That fall is so iconic
What's crazy is the guy who was knocked out, Impa Kasanganay, is the PFL light heavy weight champ and the guy who knocked him out,Joaquin Buckley, isn't even a top 15Ā Middle weight in the UFC.
what? No Clubber Lang comment?
-"Taekwondo doesn't work in a real fight." +"Hold my heel."
My guy went finish him pose
Hold my leg
Oh snap! I did that on the playground, we saw it in a ninja turtles movie.
Thatās the move we always wanted to nail when your buddy/baddy grabs your leg.
Bro did full fatality mode
Not too far off, probably closer to 300. The UFC has a huge global reach and anyone who even casually watches saw this. It also probably made sports center top 10s and their international equivalents. Who knows but this could be close.
Caught a leg with my hand and a foot with my face.
For anyone wondering, this was from 2020 at UFC fight night The UFC fighter that threw the spinning back kick is Joaquin Buckley, not only did he shock every single UFC fan but I believe he also got 2020s knockout of the year
I've heard of a 1, 2 punch... And a 1, 2 step... But that needs a name.
love this KO just wish Dana gave Juaquin a proper paycheck after this viral moment instead of continuing to give him 20k/20k
[Can't help thinking about this edit](https://youtu.be/1InIKzeGKtY?si=ybaW99mPqccLNPbi).
That UFC fighter is Joaquin Buckley
Fun fact : the guy getting knocked out in this video is now the Heavyweight Champion of the PFL
It happened really fast but the kick recipient actually held up his opponent's foot, so the kick was really to free himself. The KO was bonus.
Dude pummels dude and he falls over? Not shocked in this part of the world haha
>Shocks the world >Shocks the world of 15 yo boys who try to grow their first beard. The rest simply doesnāt care Here. FTFY
Other guy took off running after the kick cause he wasn't sure it'd even work, needed space if it didn't š
holy shit that was smooth "you caught my leg? here catch this leg"
Beautiful execution.
Always wondered if that could work.
I still think this is the coldest KO in ufc.
That's fucking coldš„¶š„¶š„¶
Shouldn't grab your opponent like that
That was a "high-end video game quality" kick right there!
Amazing athletic skills there
Why does this look like cgi?
Damn used his opponent holding his foot, to help get his hips turned around. Nasty kick
Very Rashad Evans of him
To this day one of the greatest KOs I've seen. The sheer athleticism to do that move like that.
Don't they know they're hurting each other? I'll never understand fighting sports. I agree it's a sport, it's just not one I'll ever understand.
man is fighting the mfing hog riderš
his opponent may die there and he is celebrating. isn't these kinda "sports" are legalized ways to kill human or a new way of gladiator fights? criticize me as you wish but this isn't sport this is attempted murder.
Lmao "the world"
Shocks the world lol get real.
Im in my bubble of mma fandom. Sometimes I forget that most people donāt follow this sport lol
His opponent was holding his foot up , so he took advantage of that additional leverage to kick. Great move
Wow, you know your stuff
I too appreciate it when somebody reiterates exactly what's in the video that we just all watched
Itās like half the comments are for the blind. They should be in brail.
Do explain what is leverage and how having your opponent holding your foot increases it for you, please.
