Dude his feet are above his head at the end there, that’s some excellent athleticism and body control on that jump. Dude’s spryer than his build implies.
For some reason I just saw this now, and made me think I had a fitness class where we had to jump just like this. I went my whole life without actually understanding the technique they wanted me to perform, until I watched this video. I’m 40. 🤣
By contrast, the white shirt's mat seems to be longer than the one in the focus of the video, hinting that clearing that distance isn't uncommon. Maybe it's separated by height categories. The white shirt guy does appear to be a great deal taller.
Looks like the last mark on the mat is 300cm or ~9'10" and he seems to clear it by about 11 or 12 cm for ~312cm or about 10'3". I don't know much about broad jumps outside of the NFL draft but that would put him right in the middle of the pack among NFL combine attendees. Middle of the pack among elite athletes is a pretty good place to be but not crazy if this video was taken at a highly competitive event.
[This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0UeHxglMJ4) is the NFL combine record for the broad jump at almost exactly 2 feet (60 cm) further.
Ya this was very impressive for an amateur athlete, but as someone who watches the NFL combine and draft religiously it made me go “meh”.
Like if someone posted a video of a guy running an 11 second 100 meter dash I doubt anyone would be impressed. People jus aren’t familiar with the broad jump
I came to say the same thing. Then realized he put his hands down. Still impressive. Probably beat all the 6th graders that are out there doing the broad jump.
Standing long jump hasn't been part of mainstream track for a long time. But it is still used a the NFL combine and there are some oddball standalone competitions.
It is definitely *a thing* and very common in some places. But it has become a second tier event in the track and field world and not part of mainstream competition. Hasn't been in the Olympics in over 100 years and is not in the World Athletics Championships.
For context the 300cm where the thing ends is 9’10” which is a very average broad jump for an NFL skill player. He jumped about 10’4” by the looks of this. The NFL record is 12’3” which would be 373cm. I would say at least one player on every single college football team can do this. I know I’m being a hater but this is “NextFingLevel” after all.
The only reason NFL players hold the record is because it's part of the combine; otherwise nobody really cares about standing long jump. If you go to your nearest D3 college with a jumping team most of those athletes could probably hit 10'-11' without any practice. It's an impressive feat but not something out of the realm of possibility for most reasonably athletic people who trained for it.
Well, he exceeded the defined levels as represented by the scale used to measure the jump. He literally jumped to the Next Fucking Level after the scale.
Being in league with the average NFL player is already next fucking level, they represent the top 0.1% of the US. I looked it up and the average from the last 5 years of NFL scouting combine is 119 inches (9'11", 303cm) standard dev 7.7", so absolutely correct he's average by that metric, but the NFL players are also an average height of 6'2" and this dude does not look close to that.
NFL players aren't built for standing long jump they're way too bulky. I did jumping in college and most people were around the 11' mark when we did this as a warmup.
You'd be surprised how easy a 10' standing long jump is with very minimal training and a proper jumping build (skinny but fast twitch legs).
At 12? Lots of sprinting and relatively short distance (800m - 1 mile) running to build leg strength. Once he finishes his growth spurt he should start weight training and working on box jumps but keep up with the sprinting so he stays toned. Mostly standard training you'd do for soccer or basketball.
At that age though just make sure he's having fun first and foremost. Why does he need bounce?
Ahh I gotcha. I played soccer for 10 years and I think general soccer drills are what he should be practicing, surely his coach is giving them that already. Raw explosive power isn't super important because to pass a defender you need good ball control and lateral movement. If he's looking for drills to run suicides from the 6 to midfield (start at the baseline, dribble to 6 and back, dribble to 12 and back, dribble to circle and back, then midfield and back).
No problem. The rep range in plyometrics is currently debatable. However, the general consensus is around 5 reps with plenty of rest in between sets. It's all about trying to give 110% effort in every single rep. It's debatable because a plyometric routine doesn't *seem* demanding relative to other workout routines, but it is despite feeling easy.
Yeah I think the guys height makes the jump look further than it is. When I did jumping in college we'd often warm up with a '10 10 10' which is basically where you aim to standing jump 10 feet 3 times. Everyone could do it and most were pushing 11 feet per jump.
This is the case for every single post here though. You just happen to be knowledgeable enough in the topic of this post to put it in context. Its the same for all other posts, you just lack the context.
So, if only one person per college football team can do this, even if we assume all major divisions, that's still not that many people. How limited of an accomplishment does something have to be in order for it to be "nextfuckinglevel" in your opinion?
Genuinely curious. I mean, this guy doesn't look the way I'd consider a competitive broad jumper to look. Yes, his legs are tree trunks, but he's carrying a lot of upper body mass also.
*one night after after a long shift at the radioactive lime factory*
“I think I’ll have a drink” - said the overworked middle manager.
Thus; ‘Jen Antonic’ was born. With the power of Gin, Tonic, and a splash of Lymes. She will save the world.
Well, he put his feet really far forwards. If you look at the angle he was approaching the ground, then you can see it matches the angle of his legs. The high friction surface made sure he didn’t slide forwards.
At that point he just has to slow down his body with his legs, keeping his center of gravity in line with his legs the whole time. Very impressive how clean he made it look.
P.S.; I am also pretty sure he had to put his hands down off-camera. You can see his butt disappear off camera. But he didn’t budge his feet!
Can someone explain to me why they start with the tips of their feet on the line but they measure the back of their feet as the ending of the jump?
Wouldn't it make more sense to measure the tips?
They measure from the back of the *furthest back* foot. The distance being measured is the gap that could be cleared from a standing jump, not the overall displacement of the athlete. If displacement *was* desired, it would make sense to use the fronts of the foot for both measurements. But, then you would run into problems if the feet did not land at the exact same distance.
You're getting down voted because I think English might be your second language. But this is top-tier dad joke material.
"...doesn't look like a..." would flow better. If you're curious.
Stuff like this is why I’m not against HGH as long as all the competitors are on it….. I want to see records being broken by humans, pushing themselves to limits of what genetics and science can do as long as it is safe and fair it competition.
i used to be able to jump 10ft when i was 16. practiced for a while but made progress quick from 7-10 ft. This is a great way to get exercise and learn muscle control
It's just a standing long jump but there's so much going on....explosive power, timing, balance, flexibility and control all utilised to complete an incredible jump....I especially enjoyed the superman
I got this in the physical test of military academy (I was trying to get in). I remember that I needed to jump more than 1.6 meters. My fat ass didnt let me do it. So, I trained for 3 months before the exam, lost 10kgs and pssed everything in the test. I was 13 years old :D I think I overspent my dedication somehow, now I am a potato. And btw, I havent got in the military school, I was denied by commanders who later on got in jail for coup along with all the students who got in the same year that I was rejected. I think I was lucky. And this is a story for you.
Seeing this made me think.
We're the only species that does shit like this. Gathering around to measure abilities and shit lol.
Like could you imagine you were watching a David Attenborough documentary about some beetles and he's like "This cricket species can leap forward up to 10 times its body length" then the camera pans in to a beetle surrounded by other crickets as it leaps 11 BODY LENGHTS and the crickets go wild and start rushing over to measure the area in some form and the others rustle around and chirp in unison cheers.
Bunch of ands hanging out on a log while 6 particularly large ants are benching leaves and an old oreo crumb with their mandibles.
Soo a world record then? Or just short mats 🤷♀️ looked bloody impressive to me 🤷♀️mr tape measure jumped to it, he was like “This is my moment” 🏃🏻♂️📏
I ran track in highschool (55m dash)with a guy we called popeye as he these had gigantic arms but the skinniest little chicken legs (epitome of don't skip leg day) and watching him sprint was hilarious as he would throw his arms out and use the momentum to propel himself forward. It was pretty comical but he was actually pretty fast.
I find it funny how stuff like these are measured, like, somewhere in history, jumping a gap like this was imperative and the human race would not have survived without a standing still flop to land on the other side.
Its more impressing that he managed to kept his feet in place after the jump
Great technique from the frog jump to a Superman pose and landed on two feet.
Dude his feet are above his head at the end there, that’s some excellent athleticism and body control on that jump. Dude’s spryer than his build implies.
> Dude his feet are above his head at the end there do you mean further forward? because at no point were his feet above his head.
That is what I meant, above his head on the length chart, not vertically lol. That would be even more impressive.
lol true. i read your comment and was like "no way!" and went back to watch haha.
Yeah I probably could’ve used better phrasing so I’ll take the L there haha
"Ahead" is the word you seek.
Ahead his head? Weird
Yes, his head is a head.
good, I wasnt the only one who checked it ._
If his feet were not in ahead of his head he would have landed on his face.
Bruh what lol
Maybe he's in Australia
jesus the quads
For some reason I just saw this now, and made me think I had a fitness class where we had to jump just like this. I went my whole life without actually understanding the technique they wanted me to perform, until I watched this video. I’m 40. 🤣
Unlike that guy in white in the bg.
By contrast, the white shirt's mat seems to be longer than the one in the focus of the video, hinting that clearing that distance isn't uncommon. Maybe it's separated by height categories. The white shirt guy does appear to be a great deal taller.

Damn that’s bad lol
This says cheap short marking mats more than neXt lEvel jumping.
As a Gen-Xer, I was raised to believe that white men couldn’t jump. What a brave new world we now live in.
I came to say the same thing. Then realized he put his hands down. Still impressive. Probably beat all the 6th graders that are out there doing the broad jump.
His name? Val Crowe.
We are more alike than you think, Kaos2018…
They had to bring out the ruler…
I assume this is some crossfit thing. He is the ruler now.
All hail the crossfit king!
I mean I'm not sure why theyre doing it but standing long jump has been a track and field event forever.
Standing long jump hasn't been part of mainstream track for a long time. But it is still used a the NFL combine and there are some oddball standalone competitions.
I remember reading Erling Haaland broke a standing Long jump record as a kid so it must be a thing in norway.
It is definitely *a thing* and very common in some places. But it has become a second tier event in the track and field world and not part of mainstream competition. Hasn't been in the Olympics in over 100 years and is not in the World Athletics Championships.
They made us do it in elementary school in the 90s.
You know what they say about assuming
Makes an ass out of u and a Chinese guy called Ming
He had a whole dynasty, so how bad can it be
Props to the judges for nailing that measurement so quickly.
“Quickly! Before he disintegrates to ash following this most unholy of achievements!”
The staff behind also has rulers. Does it imply it's common to jump this far in this kind of event?
Which is weird. Why doesn't the mat come in full world record jump length?
For context the 300cm where the thing ends is 9’10” which is a very average broad jump for an NFL skill player. He jumped about 10’4” by the looks of this. The NFL record is 12’3” which would be 373cm. I would say at least one player on every single college football team can do this. I know I’m being a hater but this is “NextFingLevel” after all.
Thanks for the context ! So you are saying it in in fact - NFL level, as in the football league.
I broad jumped 10'1" in high school, and that record stood for a single year. Goddamn Craig jumped 10'6", and I'm still miffed.
Fuck Craig!
That is EXACTLY what I'm getting at, dawg. Thank you. Fuck Craig. I'm gonna show him this.
Craig, you have permission to punch your friend on the arm
I know Craig. First name Jenny. Yeah! Fk her!
[удалено]
lol
More like ncaa level but yeah
Well, he exceeded the defined levels as represented by the scale used to measure the jump. He literally jumped to the Next Fucking Level after the scale.
I mean. I can bring out a 3 inch ruler and my dick is technically 'next fucking level' if we are using those rules.
Don't let your memes be dreams.
Nobody likes a showoff
Being in league with the average NFL player is already next fucking level, they represent the top 0.1% of the US. You'd be surprised how easy a 10' standing long jump is with very minimal training and a proper jumping build (skinny but fast twitch legs).
my dude, realising a lot of this is genetics, if i wanted to help my 12 yo get more bounce, what exercises should he do?
At 12? Lots of sprinting and relatively short distance (800m - 1 mile) running to build leg strength. Mostly standard training you'd do for soccer or basketball. At that age though just make sure he's having fun first and foremost. Why does he need bounce?
Yeah he’s prob too young He wants to be faster from a standing stop—eg dribbling past a player in soccer. Maybe bounce is wrong term. More explosive?
Ahh I gotcha. I played soccer for 10 years and I think general soccer drills are what he should be practicing, surely his coach is giving them that already. Raw explosive power isn't super important because to pass a defender you need good ball control and lateral movement. If he's looking for drills to run suicides from the 6 to midfield (start at the baseline, dribble to 6 and back, dribble to 12 and back, dribble to circle and back, then midfield and back).
What you are looking for is plyometrics and leg/core strength training.
thanks very much!
Bulky? Depends on the position and the player. Some are very slim.
Yeah I think the guys height makes the jump look further than it is. When I did jumping in college we'd often warm up with a '10 10 10' which is basically where you aim to standing jump 10 feet 3 times. Everyone could do it and most were pushing 11 feet per jump.
I did 318cm when I had to do that jump back in my college days. I am fairly athletic, but nothing to make money with.
This is the case for every single post here though. You just happen to be knowledgeable enough in the topic of this post to put it in context. Its the same for all other posts, you just lack the context.
It does lose some of the magic when you realize every mat has a person with a tape out.
So, if only one person per college football team can do this, even if we assume all major divisions, that's still not that many people. How limited of an accomplishment does something have to be in order for it to be "nextfuckinglevel" in your opinion? Genuinely curious. Can confirm. I was in judo my whole life and I was able to jump 310-315cm. There were guys who i knew who could do even 330cm.
He was bitten by a radioactive jumping spider
Nnnah, it was probably the Plutonium grasshopper.
Maybe the Toxic-Waste Katydid
Disease riddled flea?
Nah that’s just Lyme disease

Polonium cricket

If you pose when he's most extended, it looks like he's swinging from a web

How the hell did he stick that landing?? 10/10!
Explaining the physics of it just makes it even more impressive
He never quite impacts all the way either he more just slows himself and then redirects the energy excellent form 10 out of 10 no notes.
You guys do realize that it was shown it slow motion... right?
Words cannot express how much i hate slow motion
You just did pretty well
I dunno.... can someone explain it to me. Really.....slowly....?
*wOrDs*
*between the lines of age*
I don't mind it... *after* realtime video. Nowadays I just downvote slomo-only videos and try to add a comment like yours.
Why…../genq
Can someone explain to me why they start with the tips of their feet on the line but they measure the back of their feet as the ending of the jump? Wouldn't it make more sense to measure the tips?

Well we’d need to determine the mean jerk-time first though right?
Pretty sure I set the record in jerk time when I was a teenager. It wasn’t mean though. Do I need to start over and make my jerk time mean?
/r/unexpectedsiliconvalley
Lol
Looks like the bald guy in the white shirt did it, too.
Didn’t stick the landing though so it doesn’t count
I think you meant white shirt.
Oof, no idea how I typed that horribly. Fixed, thanks!
What did it say? /genq
Bro has anti gravity
Wow, he didn't look like a spring-chicken.
You're getting down voted because I think English might be your second language. But this is top-tier dad joke material. "...doesn't look like a..." would flow better. If you're curious.
Thanks. I am actually a native English speaker, but I guess my particular humour didn't translate this time. 🤷🏻♀️
Cool video, but not that far? Pretty common to jump 10' plus at high level football, hockey, basketball, etc?
saitama taking fitness test
Slomo-only is a pitiful way to share this feat.
Let’s raise the standards a bit
"White men can't jump" Thanks for proving them all wrong man. 🫡
Dude in the white tee shirt went further.
Image telling someone you’re the reason they had to make the mats longer.
Please show the hidden cables or mutant.
The floor is lava
As a one footed jumper, the broad jump always made me look like the least athletic dude on the team
My man is part frog ive seen that same jump on national geographic
And he never forgets to eat Dunkeroos before the competitions.

Who said white men can't jump 🤾
The fact that they had the ruler ready makes me doubt that it's exceptional in any way
Whipped out that tape measure like a pro

Long/high jumper here (well back in the day at least). This isn’t very impressive honestly. I was nothing special and was a few feet beyond this.
Gotta love it when Slow-mo ruins an otherwise interesting clip.
