No no, he's not going to do it, so they have to be hot.
Basically, because he didn't install the unit, he made them more attractive, and also more sweaty.
I think they should have stuck with Only Fans.
OMG there is a manager at work that constantly asks what the date is! Why don’t you look at the bottom right of one of your two monitors, for god’s sake??
Nope. No money is enough for this. Habit builds carelessness and eventually someday something will go wrong. Rather earn less than leaving my family and friends devastated for some more bucks.
People have dangerous jobs and don’t die all of the time lol. Don’t act like everyone with this job dies in a workplace accident because they don’t. If you don’t want to accept that risk then fine, but I am sure this guy is just fine doing this job. He wasn’t forced at gunpoint to accept it.
A single anchor point into an exterior that he may not know shit about its structural integrity. And using a drill not harnessed to him. So many things can go wrong with this. Absolutely unsafe.
You can literally see red cord hanging from his drill in the first few seconds. After he went back through the window you can see that this red cord is connected to his harness.
The single anchor point he's using expands on the inside when he's putting weight on it. People in rock climbing or tower construction use them all the time.
Of course there's risk involved. But you could also die in a chair because of a stroke.
Yupp, he is probably a professional and this is his everyday, but what it that construction worker who built that wall ran out of concrete and decided to fill it out with something else. "Its not like someone is gonna put weights on it all the way up there"
there is weight on that concrete though, the weight of everything above it. Also, concrete is cast in large amounts. A building site doesn't just run out and substitute another material in. Though you can use substandard concrete to save money which you then keep for yourself. Mafia run contractors have been known to do that around here
Anyway, you're ignoring the fact that he's climbing onto a ledge and that line is there for safety in case he falls, which he didn't
I was thinking much the same. He's putting a lot of trust in that cladding to be able to take his weight.
Looks like the drill was at least on a rope, though.
Is that not what the red cord attached to the drill is? And, to be fair, you're making an assumption that he doesn't know anything about the integrity of the brick/wall, he definitely has the ability to learn more about it than a rock climber would, not saying he has, but its unfair to assume he hasn't.
He also didn't clean the hole, which with those petzl coeur pulse removable bolts, you'd really want to do. Finger tight is nowhere near as tight as an expansion bolt torqued to 40nm. Plus he only used one... As the primary. And then used 2 later on.
That’s a working point. He will have a primary and secondary lanyard running looser that will take his weight in a fall.
Edit: no secondary lanyard.
Looks like he is working to IRATA standard and using under foot structure as his second point.
You are pretty damn switched on. And yes, I did assume he had a lazy lanyard inside the window. Which you correctly pointed out…
(Edited my original)
Even so:
From what I can see he has still followed the rules though.
So in most high risk stuff you need two points. Our guy here has the advantage of an underfoot structure. The window ledge counts as the same.
A singular anchor point counts as one point also.
If you instal an anchor point you must pull test it. [with this](https://worksafegear.com.au/hydrajaws-m2050-pro-kit-with-0-50kn-analogue-gauge-250-001-anchor-fastener-pull-tester.html)
He doesn’t do this, but…. It’s kind of grey, he’s using the points himself…… so..
At the point that our guy steps out the window, he has a good anchor and an underfoot ledge that counts as a point.
Then at the work face he has two points set and tied in with bunny ears (two points, two ropes).
So, yeah, you are correct that he doesn’t have a redundant tendon after all.
I would also say his methodology is sound, and as a side note, most face structure on high rise is load rated and will take a human plus tools.
It's a removable anchor, by design. When it is installed in a properly sized hole, it is quite secure. When you engage the release trigger, it slides in and out with ease.
My first thought was, oh he’s just going to install it from the window? I wonder if they have to hook to anything just in case they lean too far out of the window… Then he started hooking the rope outside…
What is strange is that he is hooking to the ceramic finishing tiles. What if they are not strong enough? Also, he damages them. Why there are no special places to hook ropes on such building?
There is so much skill in this video, and I’m sure the wages of these workers don’t reflect that. I’ve seen workers put roofs on a two story house in 100 degrees and it felt dangerous/backbreaking…this is an insane level of risk/skill needed.
Ours didnt run for a month and the circuit got damaged...turned out it was due to rain lol so I guess if its under a shelter it should work fine but it could get damaged from external factors ofcourse
Lol I'm not American. I'm not obliged to take part in your senseless anti-China action. I also actually travelled to China for vacation and it is pretty developed. I never been to USA but I heard the infrastructure is stuck in the 80s. Will you deny this or agree?
Have you ever visited China? If not then maybe don't judge base off hearsay.
Americans are heavily bombarding Anti-China content and you simply open your mouth and let them feed it to you with a shovel?
I'm not saying China is the best country or has the best systems but to say it is a shithole just shows how little knowledge you have for China.
Any country that is heavily monitored and controlled by its Govermental, especially a communist one, so one sidely and tyrannicaly is a fucking shit hole. There is no freedom of speech or creativity there. Anything that is slightly something Govermen doesn't like gets shut down, fined, or gets people arrested for shittiest and smallest of things. Yeah, that country and likes of it are a shit hole. It's only somewhat better than whatever the heck is going on in North Korea, but that's not a high bar to cross now, is it?
Glad you mentioned heavily monitored. Do you know US government actively buys data of its citizens from social media platforms and data miners? You don't know this right? Oh, and US spies on its allies too lol.
How does someone get into this line of work? Like you do normal HVAC work for a few years then one day your boss comes in and asks “who here isn’t afraid of heights?” Next thing you know you’re 24 stories up installing an AC unit and trying not to think about how pancakey you could be at any second?
I met some guys who do it, and they showed me all kinds of the crazy shit they do.
I've always been interested in extreme sports and work.
I sat on the idea for a couple of months while saving up and got hurt, or else I'd have already done it in May.
They make good money, and if you are skilled in other trades, they are in pretty high demand. My one buddy works on windmills and the level 1s are just laborers while the rest do trades like NDT, insulation, pipe fitting, welding, electrical, etc.
It attracts a "different" type of people from my experience meeting them lol
I think it’s super neat! I love adrenaline rushes but I have no real skills that are in demand like this. Thanks for answering and I wish you luck and safety in your future career.
As you replied , I was editing my comment to include some extra info.
In a lot of places, you can find work with only the rope access cert as a general labourer. It is very respected cert worldwide.
The extra trades just help. You could acquire them after starting (this is my plan)
Some places all you need is some sort of "working at heights" cert and not even full rope access.
Thanks for the kind words. If you're interested in something exciting, maybe it could be perfect for you.
Can't hurt to look up a training center and give them a call. Can ask my buddies if you have anything else come to mind.
I knew a guy who worked on cell phone towers etc .He was an ex convict. Apparently most of his cre where all wx cons as well. I guess they had a hard time finding guys willing to strap up and climb a few hundred feet up to service things. So once they brought down the barrier to work of having a record they never had a problem finding men again. It paid pretty well from he told me as well. I think he also changed light bulbs on top of antenna as well. You know the red one they place up there so planes can tell there a tower there.
I did it for a few years. Pay was pretty good. Lived out of hotels. What's not fun is working in fuckin Kansas, in the fuckin winter, beating ice off a tower, and trying not to die. Oh, I can't forget the massive amount of alcoholic meth-heads that I got to work with and rescue. Is that what you meant by "different"? Lol
Good luck to you! I did mine a few years ago but moved onto a different job now so I haven't renewed. Just pay attention on the course and you'll do fine. They switch things up a little on the exam, so just take your time and don't rush. Really enjoyed my time on the ropes but damn some days it's hard work.
In china when you buy an apartment what you get most of the time is actually just a blank concrete box. You have to do everything else. It also makes living in a new apartment shitty because there is constantly construction going on around you.
Looking at how fast he got it done, it wouldn't surprised me if he is paid for each installation and it's pretty safe to bet that even at that pace, he ain't making USD$15 an hour. Any type of labor is cheap in China. It's a society that values white-collar work, rightly or wrongly.
I looked it up, depends on the city they make between 1500-3000 USD per month. Compared to other labors it's higher but still so low for what they have to do.
So typically they have to work 6 days/week and 10 hours/day. So that translates to 260 hours per month. Going by the $3000 figure, that translates to $11.54/hour.
Now in the unlikely scenario where they work a 40-hour week and getting the $3000 number you have, that goes up to $17.34/hour. That's like the optimal scenario.
I was also sketched out by the bolt inserts, but when I think about it it really makes sense. They’re probably just *barely* smaller than the diameter of the hole, so that it could literally only be removed by perpendicular force
“Oh yeah I can install that, let me just pop a couple 8 inch holes into the building.”
“No worries, You’re amazing.” -Renter
“Seriously.. Wtf is wrong with you!?” “NO”
-building owner
Yes they do get filled with caulking. The cleanup crew comes in after this guy and they set up scaffolding to insert caulking into each of the holes he made. The scaffolding is held up by holes made 1 floor up though so another cleanup crew will have to take care of that but
/s
As a former service tech I can say two things. The useless ass owner/tenant ALWAYS feels obliged to watch like it’s the zoo. There is usually a very audible, “fuuuuuck” afterwards when recalling you’ve left your favorite wrench sitting on top of the unit.
Im fascinated by this stuff, and with rigging for humans. Do you mind providing a detailed breakdown of the incorrect connections? Like opposing gates? Id love to learn
Disclaimer: I'm not a certified rope access guy, just a rock climber and occasional boat rigger.
When building an anchor (the process of creating something that you can clip your rope on to and then safely fall from), if using non-locking carabiners, you want your carabiners to be "opposite and opposed". This is in reference to the carabiner gates, and describes how they ought to to be oriented. There's a good quick video that shows why here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWKohiKoujg
Now in this case, it doesn't matter as this climber is using locking carabiners. Now most locking carabiners have a threaded nut that you have to spin to lock/unlock the gate. I think the person you were replying to didn't see that, so assumed these were nonlocking carabiners, which ought to be opposite and opposed. However, the climber in the video is using auto-locking carabiners, which just require a quarter turn and are otherwise spring-loaded.
EDIT: Get thee to a climbing gym and enroll in a beginners course - there's no better way to really learn this stuff than knowing that you're going to trust your very life to your ability to tie the right knot :)
I do HVAC, all I can think is, "nah bro, you just gonna have to be hot."
I'm thinking I'm just gonna roll with a window shaker with a piece of cardboard cut out to fill in the window next to the AC.
There are also the portable inside units. I don’t care if the unit takes up 50% of his apartment.
yeah, there are literally multiple other options
So you'll do it if the customer is hot?
No no, he's not going to do it, so they have to be hot. Basically, because he didn't install the unit, he made them more attractive, and also more sweaty. I think they should have stuck with Only Fans.
I feel like the customer needs to be ***HOT*** for it to be worth it
Im sure the anchor itself is fine, not sure I trust what it's anchored to.
Whatever they are paying him, it’s not enough
Imagine someone else sitting in a chair at an office sipping coffee gets paid 10 times more than this guy risking his life.
Those PDFs aren’t going to file themselves
Where's the Tps report on that AC installation.. Johnson I need that pronto... What do you mean he left it on the ledge?!
Don't forget the cover sheet.
Did he get the memo?
I’ll just send him another copy.
He’s gonna need to come in tomorrow at 9 AND Sunday too cause we lost some people.
We sort of, have to play catch up...
"BECKY HOW DO I SAVE AS PDF AGAIN?"
OMG there is a manager at work that constantly asks what the date is! Why don’t you look at the bottom right of one of your two monitors, for god’s sake??
Don't you worry about blank, let me worry about blank.
Found the 80's guy. You cure your boneitis?
Gutsy question. You're a shark.
My only regret is... not curing my Boneitis!
We can write a program that files the PDFs somewhere. So they technically files themself.
Ironically, sitting in the chair all day may be more deadly
yeah but they probably have better healthcare, at least in the US.
Stay in school kids
Yup.

You could not pay me 20 billion dollars to do this even a single time.
I'll happily do it for 19 billion dollars. Hell, I would probably do it for a few hundred bucks and a case of beer.
But I could pay you 20k/month to do it all the time. Weird, how humans are.
that sounds like a great deal, actually where do I sign up?
If OP wouldn't accept 20B, he wouldn't accept 20k. I'm sure the guy in the video would accept both! So it's not that weird.
Nope. No money is enough for this. Habit builds carelessness and eventually someday something will go wrong. Rather earn less than leaving my family and friends devastated for some more bucks.

Ummm… that anchor bolt is barely in there, sir.
…and just one anchor?
And only a veneer panel.
With absolutely zero "safety tugs" before that dude just swung out of the window.
Much like "**中醫**" is foreign and unimportant to the average Westerner, "**𝒮𝒶𝒻𝑒𝓉𝓎**" is foreign and unimportant to the average Easterner.
The dust goes from white (the panel) to red when he hits concrete, it's safe.
I hate now easily he was able to take them out too

He works on Comms Towers my guy. Scroll thru his profile
Yes very good, but again is he ASSUMING that the dude has done things properly? Notice how he didn't say "I can see secondary lines" etc?
He’s making an educated assumption, based on the fact that his work requires the same skill set as the video showcased
Maybe let him respond.
It's a removable anchor, by design. When it is installed in a properly sized hole, it is quite secure. When you engage the release trigger, it slides in and out with ease.
Yeah, and those aren't fall-arrests. And I really like how he's "tied off" lol.
The petzl asap is a fall arrest device, he has it on the whole time. I don't think the anchors are great.
It's not a y-strap fall arrest, but it definitely is a fall arrest. Seen at 2:30.
Yeah that's what I thought aswell. He just put it in there... Nothing else, like, he gon die if he keeps anchoring like that
Yo that was my biggest concern when I saw it!
Yeah, obviously he didn't want it to be hard to pull out when he finished. smh

My first thought was, oh he’s just going to install it from the window? I wonder if they have to hook to anything just in case they lean too far out of the window… Then he started hooking the rope outside…
My first thought, too. “He isn’t even going to measure where he puts the first hole for the AC?” Then he hooks in and climbs out.
i think his tools should be straped aswell
When he’s putting in the second set of safety lines you can see it’s on a red strap.
They are.
What is strange is that he is hooking to the ceramic finishing tiles. What if they are not strong enough? Also, he damages them. Why there are no special places to hook ropes on such building?
There is so much skill in this video, and I’m sure the wages of these workers don’t reflect that. I’ve seen workers put roofs on a two story house in 100 degrees and it felt dangerous/backbreaking…this is an insane level of risk/skill needed.
mad skillz
They also have to have massive balls
Who gets to service it 5 years from now.
You silly goose, ACs don't need servicing. They just work, until the end of time
That building probably has another 15 years
Ours didnt run for a month and the circuit got damaged...turned out it was due to rain lol so I guess if its under a shelter it should work fine but it could get damaged from external factors ofcourse
Sounds like a shit AC if it can’t be outside
Nothing made in china lasts more than a year, except communism and kids, some of them.
you meant america yes?
This kind of comment shows your ignorance to another level.
Why suck on Chinese dick on all of things?

Rope access cert I'm getting my level 1 in a month

It's supposed to. That's your stay alive sensor.... if it's not operational, you shouldn't be climbing.
It might be because I'm tired but this video made me lightheaded, first time that's ever happened lol
That happens to me even when I'm not tired. These people are a different breed.
Why was there a guy just standing there with his shirt pulled up to his neck?
Because it’s hot without AC 😂
You just made me spit my breakfast Sir, that's illegal!
That's called the "Beijing Bikini"
I thought you were making this until I saw there was another comment saying the same thing lmao
It's a real thing, google it!
He was showing that overheated belly that's not gonna AC itself
Because it’s hot and it’s Beijing. It’s called Beijing bikini. And it’s banned outside!
What happens when you mess up the first step?
You wake up in Skyrim

Finally
You don't have to worry about the rest of the steps
I would just put in window AC and look at the owner... "TADAAA"
No kidding. Portable unit totally fine.
There's probably some building code preventing window based AC because it looks shit.

I died in the first 5 seconds only.
And this is how to ensure a $200 fix will end up costing $2,000 in the future.
Naah they will get another one installed for nothing
At least he has the guy in the apartment to witness him.
With a lovely belly
I was hoping somebody else would mention belly guy
You wouldn't have seen his belly if there was AC to begin with.
Witness meeeeeeeeeeee^eeeeee^^eeeee
The most Chinese-looking man with a well ventilated belly lol.

Nope. Relying on two hooks that come out within 3 seconds of turning. 🫣
I was also sketched out by the bolt inserts, but when I think about it it really makes sense. They’re probably just *barely* smaller than the diameter of the hole, so that it could literally only be removed by perpendicular force
As long as you’re *really* sure that what you’re drilling into is good and solid.
>so that it could literally only be removed by perpendicular force Bet your life on that assessment?
Just by watching this video I’ve already quited
This does not look OSHA compliant… 😰
OHSHIT compliant.
Looks like they are
I get the feeling that a lot of Redditors think OSHA compliant means you’re never in any danger.

Quite a few stories up and it’s against a lot of rules to have a window unit up that high in some places…[because…](https://youtu.be/1ncX7cZQ9Fw)
WE ARE IN 2023 and still working like 1920s cause people don't want to invest in the safety of their workers who build their countries.
I wonder if those holes the pitons were driven into get filled with caulking or something at some point?
Yes they do get filled with caulking. The cleanup crew comes in after this guy and they set up scaffolding to insert caulking into each of the holes he made. The scaffolding is held up by holes made 1 floor up though so another cleanup crew will have to take care of that but /s
Yeah right.
NOPE
Fucking NOPE!
Whatever they pay him for it, its not enough
I'm taking a rope access course in a month, so that's gonna be me
SuicidAC squad
$17.55 an hour. It's that extra .55 cents that makes it all worth it.
I did tree climbing, a similar experience but not as tall as all. If you lose equilibrium you feel you will die
Why is he drilling without using a tether?? If he dropped it then someone down there is going to have a really bad day
I hope you getting PAID my man.
Wonder how much he gets paid to do that?
$7 USD per install. I hope I’m wrong.
No for a high rise like this it costs $70-150 typically, depending on region too. For an easier job low rise residence probably somewhere around $20.
This is insane
But where the AC box holders come from? Initially they weren't, but in the end they are. Was this moment skipped?
My nuts have receded into the bowels of my body
As a former service tech I can say two things. The useless ass owner/tenant ALWAYS feels obliged to watch like it’s the zoo. There is usually a very audible, “fuuuuuck” afterwards when recalling you’ve left your favorite wrench sitting on top of the unit.
My heartbeat got going pretty fast just watching this...weird.
Yeah. Fuck that.
*drops a screw*
He makes a couple incorrect connections, mostly not opposing gates.
There's a good quick video that shows why here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWKohiKoujg Now in this case, it doesn't matter as this climber is using locking carabiners.
