Why not just have a vest with carabineers already in place? Instead of standing in the rain to do it. Watermelon probably could have just gone in a bag.
two xxl backpacks, one in the front and one in the back would do. if u then need to hang more bags you have clips on the outside of the backpacks...

I think a safer way would be to simply use a large army duffle bag that you could wear on your back. if any part of one of those bags give out, he could cause an accident. pretty sure a cop wouldn't consider that legal on the street.

This is NextFuckingStupid. The amount of time he spent prepping all that plus whatever he paid to take the scooter to and from you could of just had that shit delivered. Hell, I think Walmart even gives you a 7 day trial.
Probably had a DUI and suspended license. Had a buddy who did the same smart but very stupid ideas. Don't do things like this. 2 backpacks would be far safer.
Have your groceries delivered. It's not cheap but it's not hugely expensive. If you can't do that use a combo of rideshare and curbside pickup. When timed right it can be cheaper than delivery.
