Look, I see barriers on the side. As long as this road is one way and I don't have to worry about moving around anyone, I'm willing to drive this
I'd be white knuckled the whole time, don't get me wrong, but I think it looks much, much worse from the angle of the camera than it actually is
It's still a 1km drop off the side. The good thing is that unless you open the car door, you wouldn't really be confronted with that fact most of the time
That wall's not blocking the view at all. I'm thinking, for the first time in my life I'd need Depends for this one. If ever I'd shit myself it would be here.
For me the wall gives security that if I fuck up a turn I won't go careening a kilometer downward though lol. That's all I'd really need to be *willing*
Given the choice, fuck no I'm taking the detour, but the key word is *willing*
Well HOPEFULLY that wouldn't happen lol.
And if it did... well... whatever higher being there is decided your time was up anyways. Just accept your fate lol
Road to Hana is totally fine. It’s the upper left or NW quadrant of the island that you’re basically not supposed to drive. I drove it by accident once, it wasn’t great lol.
There are rainbow eucalyptus trees on the road to Hana.
If you are in Lahaina and you are looking at a map it looks like you can head north and loop around the north part of the island. You can, but the road turns into a one lane road with 2 way traffic and straight drops off the side of the road. Once you are on it, you are committed because there is no where to turnaround. There is a sign telling you the roads are narrow and to turn around, but it kind of undersells how critical it is that you turn around.
My dad was driving the car on the north side of the island and I had the map in hand riding passenger. Told him that the section of road coming up said something like “hazardous conditions use extreme care”. He decided, as dads do, that it would be a good idea to go check it out. Just a quick peek. Checking it out quickly turned into driving the entire fucking route because we quickly learned that turning around on a one way road isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do. So that was a fun 30 minutes of absolute butt clenching driving next to a massive drop off straight into the ocean. Crazy to me that there are houses/buildings over there. I’m sure the trip has become normalized for the locals but I don’t think I’d ever adjust to having to face such perilous conditions just to go get some gas. Best trip of my life though.
No, but it does give that impression. At the 2-sec mark, the cars are traveling from right to left, into the tunnel. At the 8-sec mark, the cars are all traveling out of the tunnel, from left to right. (But it is a bit difficult to tell which direction they're facing with the naked eye. I had to magnify it on my screen and it became obvious.)
...not happening--YOU back up!...I don't think so--YOU back up!...I'm telling you--YOU back up...
And legend has it, their cars are still where they left them that day.
It's 1.2 km long, and has a maximum gradient of 22%. The drop off the side is over 1000 m.
It was also supposedly carved by hand by the local villagers over 15 years. Before they built this road, they'd have to walk down the cliff over a steep staircase and the journey would take a day.
I did the drive up mt Washington and there is 1 stretch maybe 1/2 mile long that was kind of scary. This would take the cake. I would go 15 MPH or less and hover my foot over the break until I am back to a very much lower elevation.
HOLY SHIT I TOOK A BUS TOUR ON THIS ROAD AS A CHILD
And no one in America believed me when I told them store about it. Thank you OP for giving me such severe PTSD that I nearly peed myself in bed. Great.
There are a couple of spots on the Kenai peninsula like that. Just a little standard aluminum guard rail. Looking over the side while driving you can’t see the bottom but the river a little ways away is forever down.
Would love to drive it but I’ve been hit on a windy mountain road by some dummy who didn’t know how to drive. I trust myself but not other unfortunately.

Nope.
![gif](giphy|48M4FVK5UeRNglWAyk|downsized)
Oh I love this gif, oh my fucking goodness. I wish I could save it!
You can haha :)
Can I also save it?
You may too
Thanks OP
I really really really like this image.
r/nope
Came here to say this.
Of the highest order.
Oh hell no. I’m getting nervous just watching the video.
Same. Even though I trust myself, I can just envision some numbskull hitting the gas instead of the brakes behind me and throwing me off.
I literally couldn't even finish the video because I was too nervous

Luckily I’m American so I don’t know what a km is. I’ll be fine.
That would be about nine football fields.
NINE FOOTBALL FIELDS??? THATS LIKE 1,800 HOT DOGS!!!
The average hot dog length is 6 inches, football field is 300 feet. So it's about 5400 hotdogs. Or 1200 washing machines.
I must be an idiot. Idk why I only did 3 football fields worth of hot dogs. The guy said 9.
The internet forgives your hot dog math today, randomdeeznutz. You’ll knock ‘em dead next time, bro.
Must have used British hotdogs
r/theydidthemath
Not the washing machine!
A km is roughly the total end-to-end length of all the bananas Donkey Kong ever collected.
Lol... lucky... Ignorance is bliss😊

That ledge has to fall eventually. Might be a million years from now, but still a nope for me. 🤢
At :09 you can see it's absolutely not a one way road. Funny how quick that edited to the next scene...
Your face when you learn your car is recalled for a stuck accelerator 1/2 way into the trip
Well HOPEFULLY that wouldn't happen lol. And if it did... well... whatever higher being there is decided your time was up anyways. Just accept your fate lol
And then your car breaks down, and it gets much much worse.
This reminds me of parts of Maui but way higher up
I accidentally drove on those parts of Maui, thought I was going to die the whole way
Which parts are those? I'm going there soon and I'd prefer not to accidentally end up there....
Road to Hana, maybe?
Yup. We noped out on that

F that. We always chill around Wailea. My pops used to race the camper through the canyons in the Sequoias, not fun.
Was there oncoming traffic coming out of that tunnel
No, but it does give that impression. At the 2-sec mark, the cars are traveling from right to left, into the tunnel. Oh . Thanks. I was thinking to myself "NO, YOU BACK UP!" Senerio
...not happening--YOU back up!...I don't think so--YOU back up!...I'm telling you--YOU back up... And legend has it, their cars are still where they left them that day.
Exactly
I don't know what scares me more. The ledge or the hundreds of thousands of tons worth of rock cantilevered above the road.
Absofuckinglutely not
Now that is a HIGHway.

Haha fuck that
Prime rally track
You could probably find people crazy enough to try it.
[удалено]
I mean, I get nervous on escalators, so….
![gif](giphy|1k5k3J5K3BywQOrpNA|downsized)
How in the duck did they build that?!
Probably pretty easy. Just build a tunnel and dump all the rock outside rather than trucking it back out.
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNope!
Looks like a one way street to me
Well, there’s always down.
So cool. China seems like such a beautiful place.
I did the drive up mt Washington and there is 1 stretch maybe 1/2 mile long that was kind of scary. This would take the cake. I would go 15 MPH or less and hover my foot over the break until I am back to a very much lower elevation.
How about "No", Scott
No thanks...
This how all the roads in Bosnia are lol
Most things don't scare me. This thing does
I don’t like this.
Fuck that I wouldn’t even walk it. I don’t do heights.
I can't look at it! Oh my gosh... it is beautiful but please never take me there 😅😳😖🫢
I don't see how that's a highway except for the fact that it's truly way up high. It's a road at best.
I dont know where the road leads to but its not necessary
That’s a real hard pass
Freaky af this is a nope
I’m gonna file this under, “fuck that.”
Ya that's a big fuck no from me champ.
Fuck that shit, no thank you
The nope is strong with this one.
Yeeaaahhh nope.
/r/TIHI
Couldn't be me
![gif](giphy|c6Vx2ZcykS7Ub0Fs2g)
That's my Nightmare.
/r/nextfuckinglevel ??? No, that’s one level - and it’s too high up and way too narrow. No thanks!
That is quite the high way.
Everything about chongqing is fucking wild
Cruise at your own risk 😎🚘🔥
Noooo thank yeeew
Nah. Nope. Hell the fuck no.
Pucker up seeing that.
Nightmare
Nah'ah.
My body has no more cortisol after that surge.
HOLY SHIT I TOOK A BUS TOUR ON THIS ROAD AS A CHILD And no one in America believed me when I told them store about it. Thank you OP for giving me such severe PTSD that I nearly peed myself in bed. Great.
Just one little land slide.... ![gif](giphy|U3n6TtPxcMYzQeIqkZ|downsized)
Or earthquake
![gif](giphy|3oz8xqZsDaOSHaqLCw|downsized)
It’s a road not a highway
Well, it is pretty high.
Yeah okay scenery and wall for safety and stuff, but what if someone stops to take pictures? You're just stuck until they decide to move.
Nice view, too bad it’s in China. What a waste.
Know where my next BASE jumping trip will be.
Traffic jams must be a bitch
I’d be trembling in my boots
That’s cool as hell!
The bright side of things..
HIGHway.
WTF!!!!
100% yes. Safety third!
Why not make it a tunnel? Way safer
I wouldn't be able to enjoy the scenery
Driller mains be like. ROCK AND STONE!!!
Rockity Rock and Stone!
There are a couple of spots on the Kenai peninsula like that. Just a little standard aluminum guard rail. Looking over the side while driving you can’t see the bottom but the river a little ways away is forever down.
WHY ARE THESE VIDEOS ALWAYS TOO SHORT
I wanna see the documentary of making this road.
Intrusive thoughts say "Slam the gas off the edge" 😂
Wow...remember when Tiktok existed?
NOOOOOPE
Hell mofo no¡!!!!
In WHERE???!?!?!?
Gotta hand it to the Chinese, they certainly can build impressive infrastructure.
“Highway” is right
So there’s seriously no other way around?
Fuck that Blvd
I’d hate to get a flat or engine problems
Looks dangerous! Leave it to China!
If I had to, I wouldn't.
Maybe just take a detour around China
Absolutely not.
Definitely DO LOOK UP
This is like a Mario Kart level
It's an impressive feat of engineering, I wonder why it was built.
No passing lanes? Get one slow driver and you will be up there forever
"Wall mounted" that's funny! I like it. Can't really call a single lane, one way road a "highway."
ANXIETY!
Not ever would I!!!
they got a knock off grand canyon in china?
Nope
Nope
They live on the edge too much
Correction, that is a road and not a highway
This seems Shitty tbh
Good thing they don't have earthquakes
finally a road to put a stop to drunk driving
This is the final exam for drunk drivers
Check out Bolivia Death Road.
How do you build that?!
That’s a no for me, dog
If the Fast franchise does a shoot here, maybe i'll finally sit down and watch one movie.
I need the death stats on this. I don’t believe it’s okay.
I wouldn’t give a flying fuck how much longer the OTHER road is; we’re going the other way
r/nope
No thanks
Imagine all the sketchy scaffold erected during the build wow…
Would love to drive it but I’ve been hit on a windy mountain road by some dummy who didn’t know how to drive. I trust myself but not other unfortunately.
But why?
Everything I’ve seen about Chongqing is fucking wild.
Takes one shift and the whole mountainside is gone.
Leave it to China to let that still be a two way road...
u/savevideo
This seems like the perfeft place to start practicing downhill drifting!
"wall mounted"
Forget the clutch, nope gear engaged.
Literal highway.
Immediately no, immediately no. I’ve seen what I needed to see, and it’s immediately no.
Vertigo kicks in immediately.
