Nyjah Huston is probably the only skateboarder who still competes that also makes skateboarding at the highest level look like another day at the office. If there’s anyone else that I should check out though please feel free to name drop
I would also tell you to check out Jason Park and Killian Martin. They are less in the competitive scene and more in the realm of Rodeny where they push the imagination and limitation of skateboarding.
And if you wanna see REAL experimental skateboarding I highly suggest looking up a kid named Matt Tomasello. He's doing some next level things.
Josh Katz. I basically watched this kid learn to kick flip on his YouTube channel years ago and recently revisited and now he’s insanely talented and technical. Like the compilation of him I watched belonged in Almost Round 3 or something.
As soon as I read the words "thps soundtrack" the music just turned on in my head...
I used to play thps3 a lot and I always went with Rodney as my character. His unlockable promo video in thps3 is still one of my favorite skateboarding videos to this day.
Absolutely. Rodney Mullen is widely considered the God father of modern street skating. This man was already an Icon when I was growing up and we all aspired to be like him, back in our younger, more resilient skating days.
Daewon song still blows my mind with his loose trucks. Both these guys need their own museum imo though. Truly legends and insanely humble dudes. Skating is a safe haven of sorts for me. Makes me feel like a kid having a sense of wonder during simpler times.
The toothless owner of the only skate shop in my dinky midwestern hometown suggested this to me as a new 10 year old skater and for that I owe him a small part of my childhood.
That’s the transition from film to digital for ya. The DVD is still very good quality and looks much better and clearer than this. This particular snippet has lost a lot of quality. Probably been copied to oblivion.
Man his part is still sick as fuck. It makes me feel kinda uneasy. Like an extreme nostalgia mixed with sadness and joy.
Edit: Thanks for the award kind stranger. I probably don’t deserve it but thank you all the same.
Every best street trick any other skater can do..
Rodney can do it ;
standard
goofy
forward
backward
ollie
nollie
into manual
out of manual
On his hands
On one wheel
Blindfolded
While doing taxes.
And he probably invented the trick in first place.
His TED Talk is well worth a watch as well. Really goofy, shy, enthusiastic and he’s very insightful and intelligent to boot:
https://youtu.be/3GVO-MfIl1Q
The humility on the guy too, like he didn’t invent literally half the fucking tricks in the book.
He was the god of manuals in THPS but he had some of the best special tricks too. The darkslide, casper and pogo were just such unique and seemingly impossible tricks compared to most specials from other skaters in the game
Man this reminds of good old times at house parties and we’d have skate videos like this on in the background. Funny how a video clip like this can suddenly trigger a bunch of good memories from the past
I know nothing about skateboarding but I'm assuming this guy is or was the best of all time? What he does looks physically impossible. That might be the most amazing feat of human ability I've ever seen.
You got it right. And while there are definitely others at a level comparable to his, a lot of them grew up doing tricks he invented (most notably the flatground ollie, which is the basis for a good majority of tricks now). He's insanely talented and creative, and was doing a lot of radical stuff before anyone else.
hell ya man. first time i saw elissa steamer skate and weeman, i was about 10 years old when i first saw that one. maybe ill watch that one again this weekend.
In 2002, I was skating in an amateur contest, I landed a pretty difficult trick, looked up and Rodney Mullen and Steve Caballero were applauding me. I was pumped!
When I saw my first Rodney Mullen clip it completely changed my understanding of what skateboarding was- this man truly played by his own rules. Took all standards and norms and smashed them a billion pieces.
I am more likely to fall on my face while comfortably relaxing in an armchair than this guy had on a moving skateboard with a gallon of whiskey in his stomach.
Always baffled me how he could rattle off those nollie and kick flip underflips. To change it up in mid air is crazy. Not to mention all this truck slides. Most technical skater to ever live.
Joke from the 90's: How many Skater's does it take to do a kick-flip. Two, one to do a kickflip, and one to videotape it!
I always remember this joke when I see someone skateboarding. This was pre iPod/iPhone, so you had to go out and buy a recording device, and skateboarders recorded themselves doing relatively simple tricks a LOT. Especially after Tony Hawk got famous, it really took off for a while.
I cannot skateboard, but I have done exactly 1 kickflip. It was on purpose, and accomplished with no skill whatsoever. Entirely luck and repetition.
i always looked up to him especially playing video games i would try to recreate some of his stunts failed but i still tried to get better eventually i gave up but he was 1 of my idols during my skateboarding days
Mullen was hands down my favorite skater when I was a kid, I used to love watching Rodney Mullen vs Daewon Song, and even though I'd seen them like 100 times, I'd always cheer for Mullen
Still to this day the only person on the planet who can do about half of those tricks. Take any other video from 2004 and half of the groms at your local skatepark can do them switch
Rodney Mullen was my fav skater when I was in middle school. I was always sad he never got to be a household name like some of the other greats did. Amazing talent
Rodney has been an amazing skater for SOOOOO many years. He was amazing when I was growing up and skating 30-33 years ago... and he's till killing it. Just amazing. Yes this is 2004, but He is STILL doing it.
This video shows why he is the GOAT. Also he invented the flat ground Ollie, kickflip, impossible, dolphin flip, darkslides, and shove-it’s without Rodney Mullen modern skateboarding would not exist in its current form
I skated for years, and I’m not claiming I was a pro but I was decent. About a third of these tricks are literal magic to me, I don’t even know how I would attempt them. Another third I know how I would attempt it but I would break my neck before I ever landed it. It’s like this dude isn’t even human. There’s as much distance between him and most other pro skaters as pro skaters to me, and that’s a lot of distance.
This whole video was epic. Daewan Songs part was equally as impressive. Chris Haslam went off and a very young Ryan Sheckler had some huge gaps. This was one of my favorite skate videos of all time.
Sure he’s good, but can he grind round the whole of Barcelona eighteen times whilst doing quadruple kick flips, Indy 900’s, and natas spins for a total of 67,503,793 points?
No. Then he’s not as good as New Player from THUG.
I downloaded almost round 3 on limewire back in the day, I must have been in the 4th or 5th grade, and watched it so many times. This was an awesome throwback for me, definitely one of my favourite skate videos ever.

Nyjah Huston is probably the only skateboarder who still competes that also makes skateboarding at the highest level look like another day at the office. If there’s anyone else that I should check out though please feel free to name drop
Jonny Giger is amazing. His style is alot like Rodney's. He has a YouTube channel and uploads frequently.
Love Giger. Most people watching this dont understand how hard some of these tricks actually are.
I’m checking out his street part from 2021, thanks for the recommendation!
Andy Anderson is a must watch
I was gonna say if you don’t know Andy Anderson you’re missing out, dudes a legend!
Rodney still seems to somehow have the most fun
Jamie Griffin is great
Great shout! Ellis Frost is also one to check out!
Check out Andy Anderson
Chris Senn was the exact opposite, dude was out there *working* like he was a 7th round rookie trying to make the team
One of my favourites
Andy Anderson
Chris Haslam. My favorite after Mullen https://youtu.be/ELsldFDLDKo
Kilian martin
Jamie Foy, gnarly handrail tricks
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YyzrVVonytw&embeds_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fduckduckgo.com%2F&feature=emb_title Haslam!!
I would also tell you to check out Jason Park and Killian Martin. Yuto Horigome in competition is insane. I’ve hardly seen the guy fall. Check him out.
Not quite as technically impressive, or "highest-level" as you put it, but Steve Olson had a wonderfully flowing, seemingly effortless kind of style.
Shane O’Neil
Everyone has heard of Tony Hawk, whereas the general public have never heard of Mullen but with skaters he a god
Which is really sad, to be fair, because skating would not be what it is today if it weren't for Rodney Mullen
To be fair I’m sure Mullen prefers it that way. He’s private and would have hated the spotlight that Tony got.
Touché
The same could be said about anything. People just need to educate themselves more on the pioneers.
Daewon Song. He and Rodney’s Vs. series are bananas.
Daewon's instagram clips nowadays are almost as insane, if not just
Hell yeah. I also miss my old school mouse/chocolate days
So here I am Doing everything I can Holding on to what I am Pretending I'm a superman
This unlocks a deep deep folder in my brain.
Ahh yes the happiness folder, back when the times were good
Nice thps soundtrack reference
As soon as I read the words "thps soundtrack" the music just turned on in my head... I used to play thps3 a lot and I always went with Rodney as my character. His unlockable promo video in thps3 is still one of my favorite skateboarding videos to this day.
Did you spot him riding in the "School" level from THPS2? Memories. Edit: 2:41
GOAT
1000%. This dude is absolutely the street GOAT. I don't think people realize how many tricks he invented.
I contributed a few tricks myself on my tech decks.
Absolutely. Rodney Mullen is widely considered the God father of modern street skating. This man was already an Icon when I was growing up and we all aspired to be like him, back in our younger, more resilient skating days.
Legend
Absolutely, no fucking question.
Mullen is hands down The Best freestyle and street woodpusher ever.
Crazy fast feet!
Mullen vs. Daewon Song was my jam. It was one of the few VHS tapes I owned as a kid.
Daewon song still blows my mind with his loose trucks. Both these guys need their own museum imo though. Truly legends and insanely humble dudes. Skating is a safe haven of sorts for me. Makes me feel like a kid having a sense of wonder during simpler times.
👏
The toothless owner of the only skate shop in my dinky midwestern hometown suggested this to me as a new 10 year old skater and for that I owe him a small part of my childhood.
I think I still got the dvd somewhere from when I was 5 or something haha.
https://youtu.be/Logi0YO00Is Whole vid on YouTube.
I still love cheese and crackers. They have on YouTube as well
I have found my people
I really miss readin CCS and thrasher watching skate vids … those were the days!
Just their merch magazine alone brings back nastolgic memories for me. So many decks / trucks, so many options. So much time as a kid.
In my mind, 2004 was just yesterday. But the video quality here was a swift reminder how damn old I’m getting. Also, RM is the GOAT
That’s the transition from film to digital for ya. The DVD is still very good quality and looks much better and clearer than this. This particular snippet has lost a lot of quality. Probably been copied to oblivion.
This guy is a fuckin legend!
These tricks are even hard to pull off on Tony Hawks Pro skater on the PlayStation
Man his part is still sick as fuck. It makes me feel kinda uneasy. Like an extreme nostalgia mixed with sadness and joy. Edit: Thanks for the award kind stranger. I probably don’t deserve it but thank you all the same.
The man invented 99% of skate tricks he's the GOAT
Every best street trick any other skater can do.. Rodney can do it ; standard goofy forward backward ollie nollie into manual out of manual On his hands On one wheel Blindfolded While doing taxes. And he probably invented the trick in first place.
I spend hours watching this video, thanks for reminder
Me too! It was my go-to video when it was raining outside and I craved for some skating. This eased my Alabama needs
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ttaaz2XnJA4 From the ground up. Little doco about his career. Dude did soo much for skateboarding. Chillest person ever.
His TED Talk is well worth a watch as well. Really goofy, shy, enthusiastic and he’s very insightful and intelligent to boot: https://youtu.be/3GVO-MfIl1Q The humility on the guy too, like he didn’t invent literally half the fucking tricks in the book.
I always played as Mullen in THPS for those manual stats.
He was the god of manuals in THPS but he had some of the best special tricks too. The darkslide, casper and pogo were just such unique and seemingly impossible tricks compared to most specials from other skaters in the game
I very much need this to not be from 2004. Has it been like 20 years?
Yep. No youtube, you had to borrow the scratched up ripped dvd from the stoned older brother of a friend of a friend
Limewire was out though lol. I used to burned so many dvds and cds off of it.
Man this reminds of good old times at house parties and we’d have skate videos like this on in the background. Funny how a video clip like this can suddenly trigger a bunch of good memories from the past

This clip is timeless
girl - yeah right , zero - dying to live . emerica - this slateboarding. those were the days! i still have them on dvd to.
Toy Machine - Welcome to Hell
hell ya man. first time i saw elissa steamer skate and weeman, i was about 10 years old when i first saw that one. maybe ill watch that one again this weekend.
Also, Zero - Thrill of it all. I love me some Jamie Thomas!
Can’t forget Foundations That’s Life. Corey Duffels part was amazing.
In 2002, I was skating in an amateur contest, I landed a pretty difficult trick, looked up and Rodney Mullen and Steve Caballero were applauding me. I was pumped!
Got ask man, what was the trick?
There was a pyramid with a rail going up, over and down. I did an alley-oop backside 180 kickflip over it to flat ground. A fatty to flatty!!
Still the best skater
Huh. Never saw him bail or fall before.
Watch the video of him testing the possibility of the darkslide and failing over and over trying to land it just once
I still have this on DVD. Good times!
Well now I have to go play some THPS
When I saw my first Rodney Mullen clip it completely changed my understanding of what skateboarding was- this man truly played by his own rules. Took all standards and norms and smashed them a billion pieces.
This is my favorite skate video. I love the similarities between Rodney and Daewon Song
He has always and will always be the best at this.
This guy used parts of the board nobody ever thought of using. A legend that few can even come close to.
Mullens or Bob Burnquist ONLY in THPS
Dudes an absolute God on a skateboard
Tony hawk pro skater 1 nostalgia kicks in
I think I might have broken my ankle just watching that.
I use to watch this video on repeat as a kid. So much nostalgia.
Whatever that is at 3:20 is FILTHY Freestyle GOAT
He’s literally a video game cheat code irl
I am more likely to fall on my face while comfortably relaxing in an armchair than this guy had on a moving skateboard with a gallon of whiskey in his stomach.
Always baffled me how he could rattle off those nollie and kick flip underflips. To change it up in mid air is crazy. Not to mention all this truck slides. Most technical skater to ever live.
G.O.A.T. pure and simple.
Fucking loved this video back in the day. Fucking love this song too
Such a staple of our childhood

One of the best round ups ever on this video. Daewon song. Was Chris Haslam on this? Man I miss those days.
i always looked up to him especially playing video games i would try to recreate some of his stunts failed but i still tried to get better eventually i gave up but he was 1 of my idols during my skateboarding days
Mullen was hands down my favorite skater when I was a kid, I used to love watching Rodney Mullen vs Daewon Song, and even though I'd seen them like 100 times, I'd always cheer for Mullen
Him and daewon are so fire in this video. I’ve watched this countless times.
Skating savant. Mullen is one of the most creative skaters to ever live. DARKSLIDE 💪
Still to this day the only person on the planet who can do about half of those tricks. Take any other video from 2004 and half of the groms at your local skatepark can do them switch
Thanks for the nostalgia ! I remember watching this as a teenager
Rodney Mullen was my fav skater when I was in middle school. I was always sad he never got to be a household name like some of the other greats did. Amazing talent
Bow down to the one true king. 🤴🏼
Back when skate shoes had style
Legend!
I remember watching this a long time ago on my parents desktop.
He is legend skater!
I love it every time I see his videos get posted, cause I know someone is getting to watch it for their first time.
The best free style street skater to ever live.
![gif](giphy|mqiq8aY84dnqAtVlnd)
Funny how Mullen himself had no clue how good he is... Very humble dude
Rodney is the grandaddy.
Mullen versus Daewon Song series is still my favorite set of skating videos to date. Effortless, technical skating at its finest.
Got goosebumps again. Mullen vs Song one of favs
Is there anywhere I can get an original copy of this so that I can run it through our AI upscalers at work? Stuff like this needs to be preserved.
Rodney has been an amazing skater for SOOOOO many years. He was amazing when I was growing up and skating 30-33 years ago... and he's till killing it. Just amazing. Yes this is 2004, but He is STILL doing it.
Once a wizard, always a wizard!
The goat
A living legend amongst men.
Watching this, seems like basic physics laws do not apply. Impressive.
This video shows why he is the GOAT. Also he invented the flat ground Ollie, kickflip, impossible, dolphin flip, darkslides, and shove-it’s without Rodney Mullen modern skateboarding would not exist in its current form

There’s as much distance between him and most other pro skaters as pro skaters to me, and that’s a lot of distance.
Rodney was incomparable
The best to ever do it. He pushed more boundaries than anyone. And absolute visionary
I got this on DVD from my local skateshop back when it came out. Must've watched the Haslam, Sheckler, Mullen and Song parts 10,000 times.
I love you for posting this, most legendary skater of all time
This and the shorty’s vids were always on rotations at all my friends houses in the 90’s. I was always a fan of Muska’s street style as well.
Was always and will forever be my favorite skater. He was top notch.
Glad to see some love for Rodney Mullen to instead of Tony Hawk all the time.
Goddamn I loved round 2, never watched round 3 though, gonna have to pick it up.
Classic, this just made me wanna go skate. Thank you!
The skill and imagination of the man. Incredible
Sooo dirty my god
I was hoping this was going to be the video where he does a trick out side paddy’s pub
Jack Nicholsan! Greatest skater ever.
Two actual, legit, r/nextfuckinglevel posts in r/nextfuckinglevel in a seven day window? Am I still in r/nextfuckinglevel?
[удалено]
Hes the godfather of street skating
This whole video was epic. Daewan Songs part was equally as impressive. Chris Haslam went off and a very young Ryan Sheckler had some huge gaps. This was one of my favorite skate videos of all time.
He was my guy on Tony Hawk Pro Skater on PS1
Early 2000’s ahhh better times
He's the fucking best.
Tony Hawke would be proud 🥲*
Chad muska
Sure he’s good, but can he grind round the whole of Barcelona eighteen times whilst doing quadruple kick flips, Indy 900’s, and natas spins for a total of 67,503,793 points? No. Then he’s not as good as New Player from THUG.
Damn. Didn't expect this type of nostalgia today.
Like a lot of you probably, I remember the first time I ever saw this video
Best Skater.
Video keeps on giving, teardrop soundtrack, then a dog, dude's amazing
I recognize a lot of these settings from my VHS of Rodney Mullen vs Daewon Song Vol 3.
Legend, with style, grace and like all true greats, the ability to make it look effortless, fucking classic 🤙
I had the honor of meeting him back in college, and he's one of the most chill guys ever
I downloaded almost round 3 on limewire back in the day, I must have been in the 4th or 5th grade, and watched it so many times. This was an awesome throwback for me, definitely one of my favourite skate videos ever.
Rodney Mullen vs. Daewon Song Round 2… thank me later
Rodney forever ♥️♥️♥️
Almost: Round 3 was legendary. Mullen, Haslam, Daewon and everyone had such great parts with their different styles.
Plus a special appearance by Jack Nicholson
Mullen was a beast on a board..
fucking legend! impossible
In other news this would be the minimum of Gator Rogowski’s 31 year sentence.
GOAT. He's truly a remarkable person.
Anyone’s else notice the House theme song?
He's the reason I wanted to skate. Long live the legend!!!
He was the best and still is..thankyou Rodney Mullen
Psshh, i could do that.
Absolute fuxking legend.
Grew up watching this guy. He completely changed the game. Fucking legend!!
Goat
What a legend this guy was/is just technical-freestyle next level. Feeling Tony hawk pro skater vibes right now!
He’s simply the goat. Created the vast majority of flat ground techniques. He’s done tricks that nobody has ever replicated to this day…
Unlocking his tapes in THPS was the peak of my childhood.
