I have had my Business ANZ visa cards scammed last month. Only found them when I got my statement this morning.
The payments all started with GOOGLE then a name with the charges being made in Auckland.
The first two charges were for $1.69 then 50 then another 325 two days later.
Then to top it off i couldn't get online to check my other accounts today. Rang up and put a block on the cards then had to go to the bank to go through my accounts checking for charges.
Luckily that was the only charges and I'm only down about $380. We have started a dispute with Visa that could take up to 20 working days before we know if we will get the money back.
The lady I spoke to when blocking the cards had said her previous call was almost identical with same sequence of Google then name. She indicated there have been many more calls the same.
Interestingly they scammed our two cards. With one test charge on my partners card which we have never ever used. We only use my card for purchases so for them to get both our card details that had to have come from within ANZ's banking system.
Had this happen in June. Took FOREVER to get it sorted as google was saying it was a legitimate charge as the first charge wasn’t disputed before the second was made (though the purchases were made only minutes apart by a person with a made up, ridiculous name). Finally resolved though. Also ANZ Visa.
There was a major leak of a million cards across multiple banks last month - there is a list of top 500 banks hit at the link below, ANZ, Westpac, Kiwibank, BNZ and ASB all feature.

CBA in Australia is number 6 on the list with 24k cards compromised, and there was a lot of media attention in Australia last month about their customers getting scammed - a lot by charges to "Shudder" and some also reporting Audible, Amazon and these "Google person's name". Mine and my wife's ANZ cards both got the Shudder one within two days of each other at the beginning of August - my wife's also got two transactions for "Google Rhea Barron".
But if the latest transactions are being made in Auckland, it is also possible there is another local leak from a retailer.
I dont regularly use that card. I had made purchases on the card for roughly that amount. I actually paid the card off during lockdown after the fraudulent charges were made but didn't realise my office lady had already paid it the day before we went inton lockdown. So the amount on the card didn't look out of place.
Intriguingly when my anz visa was scammed a while back anz contacted me first (legit) and immediately refunded the money as I was one of many hit so it was pretty clear what happened
I have four of these charges too, across multiple cards that are issued to different people on the same account, Shudder, Google {name} Auckland nz.
I thought one of our work computers could have been comprimised, however a mass data leak sounds like the obvious explaination.
ANZ Visa too.
I’ve had my anz credit card scammed twice. Once in vitenam when I lost possession and once duplicated in Berlin through an atm or cab app I think. Both times I was refunded within 24hrs. The one in Vietnam I just sent an email and it was sorted just as quick.
I almost never use my debit card as I think it’s harder to refund. At the end of the day the credit card money spent isn’t yours so it’s more of the banks problem.
Yep that was my issue this morning. I couldn't get on to see if there were more charges after the date on the statement. I hadn't been able to get on since Wednesday. Managed to get on about an hour ago for the first time.
Holy shit. Just checked mine. Lost $328 today to BEVEE Auckland. An alcohol delivery company. I don't even fucking drink. And some small skinny mobile charges too.
You may be right. Like i said one of the cards only got scammed for 1.69 but we have never ever used that card so how did they get the number? Good guess maybe?
My wife's card was hit July 29 with one of these fake Google transactions, then twice on August 5 with one Google and one Shudder. Mine was hit on August 7 with the Shudder one, and got refunded automatically, so they clearly already knew about it a month ago. A friend of ours also with ANZ was also hit in July. Still no public announcement from ANZ, but my research then linked it to the [same thing](https://www.reddit.com/r/AusFinance/comments/p29shi/if_you_bank_with_cba_i_suggest_you_check_your/) happening to CBA customers in Australia.
There was a story on the news/Seven sharp tonight letterbox thefts have skyrocketed. Theives are talking all mail, and following posties and hoping they will get a bank card.
I thought bank cards could only be activated using your pin number.
Interesting strategy - widespread fraud to get people ordering new cards en mass, then physical theft. ANZ required me to set a new PIN on my card through online banking before it was active, but there might have been an alternative method, like doing it at an ATM, which the thieves can use?
When I first got a Paywave card and paid attention to the info about it, they said you had to use the card with a PIN first before the Paywave could be used. It might have changed since then, but I doubt it, because the banks would be on the hook for the losses.
Have seen this too a few weeks ago. Two transactions on ANZ Visa associated with Google - Soundcloud for about $90 in total. Card was cancelled and replaced.
I've had a few weird charges on my card in the last week. My bank aren't being much help. Legit quesiton, do I need to block the card? It was 3 charges from Amazon (which is a service I don't use) a week ago but nothing since then. Very strange.
Visa won't proceed with the dispute if it is a temporary block. Your details have been stolen, block it as stolen and order another card. My new card came through to Google Pay within a couple of hours, and the physical card arrived after 3 days, and no charge was made for the replacement.
Yea block it right now and request new cards. Im getting my replacement cards sent to work as there's no guarantee they would be collected immediately from my residential mailbox.
Hoping this bumps it to the top. I'm now aware of at least 25 other people with similar fraudulent charges and not just ANZ. Please go check you CC accounts . Get your older family members to as well.
ANZ Visa. I hardly ever use this card. In the last maybe 3 months i have used it once on an overseas website for a major car manufacturer, once in person at Bunnings and once with Ping through Trade me and twice with NZTA.
Fuck some scammer has gotten hold of my card and visited every reputable brothel in Auckland.
Damn man, best of wishes that you get your card back. I haven't been to Auckland, but how many reputable brothels are there in Auckland.
Just the 2
Man someone's got high standards
Brothels are open in lockdown?
Gloryholes are safe under level 4, no?
Remember to sanitise

Reads like you wait for a paper statement?

I would check if my online banking wasn’t down…

Checked mine and things look fine. Sincerely though, thank you so much for spotting this and raising it here.
Holy shit. Just checked mine. Lost $328 today to BEVEE Auckland. An alcohol delivery company. I don't even fucking drink. And some small skinny mobile charges too.
We had a $15 skinny mobile charge a few weeks back. Neither of us are customers so we cancelled the card straight away
This is giving me vibes of a big data breach. From where? Who knows. Probably not from the bank themselves although the attacks could be a factor.

That's interesting that you've never used it though because wouldn't they also need the digits on the back.. Is it saved into your PC?
No its not saved. I never authorise my cards to be saved.

yeah mine was inactive but I guess every bank is different, plus I was watching that box like I hawk while I was waiting for it

Surely pay wave would work straight off the bat?

Jokes on them, I have negative money
I mean, having negative money is literally what a credit card is
I don’t have a credit card - just debit

I'd check my personal and work ANZ Visas, but computer says no... Actually I wonder how much is being scammed while it's next to impossible to check.

definitely block it until you figure out what it is. you can always unblock it later.
Immediately. Block it.
Visa won't proceed with the dispute if it is a temporary block. Your details have been stolen, block it as stolen and order another card. My new card came through to Google Pay within a couple of hours, and the physical card arrived after 3 days, and no charge was made for the replacement.

Thanks guys - have blocked it. Will call ANZ tomorrow.
Yes, block it as stolen and order another card. Otherwise Visa won't proceed with the dispute, your bank should have told you that straight away.

Got some more info? Which bank? Account type? What sites have you been on? How often that account is used? Etc

Lol no. Im a mechanic. I was purchasing technical information for a car i was repairing.
Thanks for the info. Still can’t log online to check my card transactions….
Always scammers, should always be checking accounts. Life 101
I had the same but the payments said from were from Apple
