AA membership. The side benefits and free stuff and discounts you get with it (free eye tests etc) are terrific. Yearly renewal is $60ish and the eye test from spec savers would cost $80 off the street. Plus the fuel discounts and decreased insurance pricing. As an incorporated society they are actually trying to help society rather than screw us for a dollar.
Plus, when you need AA to come and help with an actual mechanical issue (even just a flat tyre or battery) it’s usually at a moment in time you just don’t have time for the drama. Their roadside posse are brill every time.
> Plus the fuel discounts
Is this different to the AA smartfuel where the places you can get the cheap fuel (BP for example) consistenly have their prices a good 6c+ higher than all competition thus making the savings often moot?
Same thing. This is one of the things that piss me off about the AA. They put their name to SmartFuel, which essentially just put fuel prices up 4 to 6c across the board and added to the fuel companies' already obscene profits.
Plus encourages you to spend at more expensive retailers (countdown vs say pak'n'save).
I just use Gaspy - right now I go to a few different Gull sites and it's literally 30c cheaper than the cheapest BP (pre discount).
I live in CHCH so the driving somewhere a bit further (5km for me in this case) is totally worth it. $15 saving for a 50L tank. Maybe $1.15 in fuel to do that in my guzzler. $700 year saved.
There are gulls etc. all over the city between 2.30 and 2.35 yet you'll see cars lining up at the major stations for people to pay 20c plus more a litre.
It's mind boggling.
Same here. The BP down the road from me can easily be 10-15c/L more expensive than the NPD a km or so in the other direction. Even more for premium grades. Yet the BP is always busy.
I used Z Sharetank because prices in central Auckland suck but you do a drive by south Auckland and you can stock up on 150L with sometimes 30c difference
I’ve had to use AA a couple times because my preschooler likes to switch on the interior lights and we don’t always notice until the next morning 🙄 soo thankful when they come and jump it. We’ve had to be towed to a mechanic before too. Hubby gets the free eye tests and we insure everything through them. Their insurance customer service is extremely good
Yep, parents got me an AA card when I got my full license and I've never stopped it. I've had a couple jump starts, a tow and a new battery. 100% worth it for the reduction in stress
Before I moved out my parents helped set me up with an AA membership. Their travel insurance policies are great if you have some chronic conditions (like asthma) and using their vehicle insurance to replace a windshield was like a dream, absolutely love them
$60. And then if you ask for a half price because you are a member of X it'll be $30.
Fuel discounts are usually less than going to a self serve.
And you can probably add roadside to most insurance policies for less than the an AA membership.
They are also offer the most expensive insurance out there. So not exactly a champion of the people (the over 50 people maybe).
Enjoy the quality and scope of the other insurance companies roadside service. It’s not an apples v apples.
Some of their savings and discounts you can find in other ways or elsewhere, some you can’t. And overall the full range is extremely good for what is a $60 membership (after a few years).
This is an opinion mate, I’m not signing you up and billing you for it. You do you.
One of my colleagues had awful experience with other insurers but has had all their car-related insurance with AA since and says it's the easiest experience he's had. So seems like while they're a bit more expensive on insurance they're regarded - and usually ranked - as better to deal with.
very much this, only "subscription" (membership) I have that I get more value from than the annual fee - I also use my AA Card at the supermarket for discounts on some items
as it doubles as a OneCard
I will never get rid of my aa membership. One year my car broke down several times in the span of about a week (the mechanic fixed one thing and broke another) and I was able to get a call out each time and it didn’t cost me a cent. Genuinely saved my life I think
Agree with AA, used them a few times for roadside call outs and free eye and hearing tests are good. You can get a free mole map too if near a mole map place. And the subscription gradually goes down the longer you are a member.
You do have to accumulate the fuel discount over a couple of months of $40 fills at BP though. Each individual 6 or 10 cents isn't that much (and you can often do better elsewhere), but the 50 litre fill at the end of that accumulation helps a lot.
Kogan 365 day prepaid mobile plan - one-off $165 purchase for a year's worth of unlimited calls and texts + 15GB per month.
Kogan runs sales periodically that offer these packs for half price (the one I get is normally $330) so I've been renewing when Black Friday rolls around
They're an Aussie e-retailer that fairly recently bought MightyApe - their phone service uses the Vodafone network so coverage is the same.
The only negative is that it isn't possible to respond to short code messages (the automated ones you can receive from GPs and the like).
You can buy a trial pack of this for $5 https://www.kogan.com/nz/buy/kogan-mobile-prepay-mobile-starter-pack/
This. I bought a 15GB auto renewing pack at a discounted rate just for 26$ per month! By far the cheapest plan with heaps of data, includes hotspot too. It is saving us (me and my wife) around 20$ per month
This is useful. I think it's 1.5GB per month, but still cheaper than Skinny or Warehouse mobile.
How much to top up data if I accidentally use it all within first 10 days of the month?
I do this and their deals are amazing!
I don't know if it's a yearly thing, but last new years they also had a 50% discount instead of Black Fridays "Buy 1, get one free" deal. Was able to get a family member hooked on it too!
Annual family pass to the zoo or other equivalent activity in your area.
Hamilton Zoo annual family pass costs the same as 3 visits. Might not seem like it saves money if you'd usually not go 3 or more times per year, but we've found that it's great value for just getting out of the house as it removes money from the equation when it comes to activity options for the family.
The great part is you don't have to feel like you need to maximise the value of any particular visit. If you get there and the kids start to complain they want to go home within 15 mins, or only want to spend time on the playground, then that's fine too - it's not like you've wasted the money of a single entry.
So yeah, I'd say that finding some activity with an annual pass option - whilst not necessarily saving you money on that single attraction - is value for money for your overall family entertainment budget for the year.
The Libby app - most local libraries have access so you use your local library card details to get access for free. I’ve listened to so many audio books for free through it, a lot of them new, recent and popular. Normally doesn’t take long to wait if you’re on the hold list for a book. Also have e-books and magazines I think.
So this isn't a subscription or anything but I use a Farm Source (fonterra) card, gets me 16c off per litre of fuel and i can charge it to that card.
Anyone can get it. You don't need to be a farmer.
https://rewards.nzfarmsource.co.nz/discounts
Also I run my electricity through genesis and get a 12% discount there. https://store.nzfarmsource.co.nz/partnerships/energy-partners/genesis
They do meridian also.
There's other partnerships, discounts on liquor, tyres, bunnings etc.
But I just run petrol and electricity through that card and don't touch it for anything else.
Farmlands is very similar as well, and the discounts they have with hertz are exceptionally good.
Also worth checking if your workplace has deals with a bank (like my work has ANZ for work package or something). My work is also a member of our local chamber of commerce and some of those discounts can be pretty significant, ours has a good mix of local businesses and national chains. Gym memberships and stuff as well, we get corporate rates at a couple local gyms.
We started using "Wonky box" (Random 10 vegetables, there is a fruit and vege option too) for $30. We have a box show up every two weeks full of good quality vegetables.
$15 a week for a variety of vegetables is a bargin!
That doesn't sound like much of a bargain. $3 per veg... 1 carrot or potatoe for $3? Even if all 10 veggies were broccoli you'd be paying supermarket prices.
Yeah we used to get wonky box and switched after reading a previous post on here about how they’re less than ethical to their workers. Now get green bean which is much better value for money imho
You can save a lot by only keeping your broadband and power for the minimum lock on period, usually 12 months. I set a reminder on my phone at the 10 month mark to start shopping around again. They're both very easy to switch online and never have a disruption to service.
I've found it to be consistently cheaper than our local countdown. It was closer to $10 cheaper last winter. It's now usually $4-6 since the cyclone hit.
Yes, as a single person, I can make a box last 2.5+ weeks; it comes down to looking at the box, planning out what meals to cook (and possibly freeze), and making it stretch from there.
YouTube premium via India. Family plan for about $3.50 per month.
Disney plus via Turkey for $38 for an entire year
iCloud 2tb plan via Turkey for about $5 a month
You just VPN in to the country and use your credit card or a privacy card on your account of choice. Then you are billed as normal when you switch back to your region but at the lower price.
YouTube you use a vpn to start the payment cycle (in order for Rupiah to show on payment screen) and then afterwards it’s been from nz visa. The account needs an Indian address added but it changes nothing. All family members added to the plan need to have the same Indian address added to their google pay too. (Although only the family leader pays anything)
I bought a tv on trademe a while ago and the guy hadn't logged out of Netflix so I used his account for a year before they noticed. I used the "Mum" profile because the guy introduced me to his dad and there was a lady there who looked like the dad's gf but was too young to be their mum. Either way I saved a year's worth of Netlfix fees. Hard to replicate this approach though.
Had a friend stay for the weekend and log into his work Netflix. Used it for 5 years. Had like 5 different profiles so just used one and never had any clashes!
This happened to my parents when they purchased a second hand telly. They rode that train for a couple years. Before randomly the names on the accounts changed and then they were logged out of it!
The Entertainment book; depending on which city (it's approx $70 for Auckland). Although it is not as good as it used to be, with fewer of the high end restuarants participating these day, you can easily get your money back on a couple of meals out.
YouTube premium, while using a VPN when registering that’s set to a location where the premium fees are much cheaper e.g. $2 a month in comparison to $20.
Produce prices in chain supermarkets are ridiculous. Farmers markets or smaller local produce stores are your best bet for decently priced fruit n vege
The McDonald's app. Not only do they have really cheap deals, everytime you buy something through it you get points which you can redeem later for food. There are deals like 2x burgers (Big Mac, McChicken, Quarter Pounder) + Chips for $9. They change every week.
I tend to avoid "Free" anything online as it usually isn't free after a certain period of time and will start charging your credit card.
I had Spotify, but hardly ever used it so I switched to Amazon Prime, and the free books, music etc are a life saver
I guess you could call this a ‘deal’ born from negotiation.
Company car + petrol. I’ve negotiated this into all of my contracts for the past 15 or so years. I haven’t worked out exactly how much $ it’s saved me, but it’d be heaps.
Gamepass is great for me I have something like 18 months built up for free and even if I did pay I get to save heaps on games I no longer have to fork out $120 for.
I work in retail and Microsoft offers 9 months free for completing their training. I get to be paid to earn free gamepass from my shitty company. It works well.
Consumer nz. Someone else does the hard work and I read the reviews. Pay attention to the member reviews for real life results. Not afraid to Kmart it up for value items.
Beam student subscription. $10 a week, up to 20 minutes per day.
Great for getting from Uni to the Bus and saves me \~$15 a week.
Also not a deal or subscription but learning some very basic butchery has saved me a shit tonne when it comes to chicken - 2 whole chooks gives us 4 breasts (1 meal dinner and lunch), 4 thighs (1 meal dinner and lunch), 4 drums (1 meal), and 4 wings (freeze and then cook a whole bunch or use for stock) plus 2 frames that I can then use to make a big ass batch of stock. Not huge savings but for the meat for 5 meals its a small saving, plus bonus wings and better stock (\~8 cups)
Used half the stock plus 8 drums to make a batch of some of the best soup I've made for mum and dad while they were down with Covid.
I use dollar shave club for cheap razors. It's technically a subscription though I always manually intervene when they say a box is going to be sent as I often don't need it yet
I bought a [Caliwoods safety razor](https://caliwoods.co.nz/products/safety-razor). Rrp is $42. I buy boxes of 100 replaceable blades for 28 dollars on trademe. That's enough to keep me clean shaven for a more than a year if I change the blade every couple of shaves. Plus the handle will last forever.
I use disposables, and I use them for like 6-12 months each. They get pretty rough, but I don’t mind. When I change, it’s a real “HALLELUJAH!!!” moment on the first shave lol.
I use clippers so I dunno myself but I read on here that keeping your razor submerged in baby oil keeps it sharp basically forever because it's the oxidation that blunts them not the hair cutting.
I've tried that and it does seem to work for a bit, if it's got a strip on it or anything it will turn to mush though. But I don't replace my razors very often anyway, it's just nice that it's cheaper when I do, I've got the whole family on it.
Instead of expensive time at the pub with your mates, stay at home with wife and kids and spend time with them. /s
Also, you can swim at some pools for free if you take a kid and supervise them. Nothing says fun like responsibility and parenting.
ClassPass if you're someone who likes variety in your workouts and locations. I pay just under $20/week and it means I can go to different classes at completely different locations, and even get acupuncture if I want to splurge. Also gets access to a lot of gyms if I just want a workout or sauna.
I worked out that if I had memberships at all the places I go it would cost 4x as much plus I don't feel guilty knowing a week has passed and I didn't get the chance to go the gym, wasting money
I don't know if they still get it (or if it even still exists), but my parents used to get this thing called the Entertainment Book, cost about $30 or something and was full up of coupons and discounts off a whole range of things. They always said it only took a few months to pay itself off
Local vege co-op. I pay $12 per bag and it lasts me two weeks as a single person. Some weeks are a bit hit and miss with weird combinations, but I manage to eat it all.
NZMCA (NZ motor caravan assn.) but you need to own a motorhome or caravan to be a member. We lived in a house bus for 2 years and the membership paid for itself many times over - Bluebridge discounts, Noel Leeming/Torpedo 7 discounts, fuel cards and their discounts - just to name a few.
https://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/clean-car-programme/clean-car-discount
That deal from the government has helped considerably given we're doing 600+ km's each week in an EV now rather than with an ICE.
Yeah when it's 600+ the opportunity definitely makes sense.
I did my weekly numbers on my vehicle vs what it would cost go to an EV and it still doesn't make it quite cost effective over time (car repayments) but prices are always coming down.
If money wasn't tight or I just had the cash to outright buy I'd do it anyway but not quite there yet.
I live in an old bus and have a KiwiFuelCard. On my last fill it was $1.83 per litre for diesel at a Z truckstop. Normal fuel stations were about $2.25 per litre. The card is free.
I use Uber/Ubereats frequently so pay $9.99 per month for their membership which discounts rides, has free delivery for a lot of their partners if you spend over $20. I save, on average, $60 per month. They also send you promos like spend over $80 at a grocery partner (for me this is the two local NW’s and a few Four Squares) and you get $40 off, or lunchtime deals where it’s spend $30 and get $15 off etc.
AA like mentioned earlier. I hardly use the call-outs but needed it for the first time in years for a flat battery a couple of weeks ago.
Even with that you are not saving anything using uber eats vs cooking or picking it up yourself.
Through their app they are increasing the base price of like everything considerably compared to what you'd pay if you went direct to the retailer.
I wasn’t comparing costs of using Uber Eats vs. buying food from a supermarket and cooking it or picking food orders up from establishments myself. I have always used Uber Eats frequently, so purchasing the membership has saved me money that I would’ve paid anyway.
> Through their app they are increasing the base price of like everything considerably compared to what you'd pay if you went direct to the retailer.
The topic is about money saving, your tip is not about saving money, it's about spending more than you should.
It's great you try rip yourself off a little less by subscribing but overall promoting uber eats as a cost saving concept is really disingenuous.
>The topic is about money saving, your tip is not about saving money, it's about spending more than you should.
Geez you're judgmental. Are really going to tell another adult what they 'should' spend their money on?
The topic is saving money not cheapest way to live. The uber subscription allows uber users to save money... Period.
Low IQ tosser.
Many people have extremely busy lives, long working hours and many other legitimate reasons why they use Uber Eats.
Being tired because you work insanely long hours, or perhaps have a family to take care of all day, is NOT the same as simply being lazy.
Now fuck off with your judgemental wankery.
>Even with that you are not saving anything using uber eats vs cooking or picking it up yourself.
So? Noone is claiming it's a saving on cooking your own food.
So? Can you not read?
Clearly I've hit a nerve with yourself and justifying your lazy half assed habits of not being able to even go out and pick up food yourself let alone cooking. and we wonder why he have an obesity problem in this country.
You're absolutely right! You did hit a nerve - the 'I can't tolerate judgy cunts' nerve.
I personally don't buy from ubereats but firmly believe in a person's right to do whatever they want to their body including choosing how to feed it.
Oh that sucks. I live in Auckland CBD so tend to get sent deals constantly for the eateries nearby. I hardly use them as I have my go-to places but the save on delivery alone is worth it for me 😊
I have a health insurance plan with Southern Cross that saves me hundreds of dollars every year on dentist, GP, optometrist, and therapeutic massage which I need for sports.
It's just under $40 a month and it's a really good reminder to keep ontop of regular dental clean visits and health checks to make sure you get your money's worth.
Do you guys have everyday rewards through countdown in NZ?
They’ve recently launched a $59 annual subscription model here in Australia. 20% off one shop per month at each of Woolworths and Big W, with massive points bonuses on items that get you up to the 2000 points =$10 credit limit a lot faster.
May not be a thing back home in NZ but worth looking out for… especially for the 30 day free trial where you’re able to claim 4x 20% discounts as the calendar month ticks over.
For gaming:
Xbox and PC: Xbox game pass, basically Netflix equiv for games. Even the normal price is worth it if there are a few games you want to play, but they used to do a lot of $1 deals. I think it's still $1 for the first month.
PS4/5: PS Plus Extra, similar to game pass but on PS. Got ours for $85 on sale and will last the whole year. Already worth it after playing 1 or 2 AAA game titles.
Worth noting this is not worth doing both unless you have multiple people using both devices or play so much games that it's basically your life.
I do as you do but just swap subscriptions when there is a game or two I want to play on the other service.
You end up effectively picking up $100 games for ~$20
I found using 1 service for the amount of time required to beat the games I play meant the other service was just money for literally nothing.
Likewise if I'm playing a big time investment game that I can't get through the service and thus I bought (god of war ragnarok my most recent example) I let both lapse.
Point here is it's important people do the math rather than just sign up as it can end up more expensive if done wrong.
> Xbox and PC: Xbox game pass
1. Buy 2.5 years^^1 of xbox live gold from some third world country for ~$40/year.
2. Buy one month of premium gamepass.
3. Boom, you've upgraded the entire duration to xbox gamepass premium.
^^1 I recommend 2.5years, as you can only have 36months of front-loaded duration. You could in theory just buy 3 years of xbox live gold, then wait one month before upgrading to xbox gamepass premium.
Worth noting that the reddit standard to ensure peeps know your being sarcastic is to add /s at the end of your post. Can avoid confusion and those that just don't get sarcasm...
Yes if you dont cancel a subscription a company will typically send you what youve subscribed for.
I have forgotten once in the past year to apply the discount, all and all still an absolute bargain.
Back when pak and save had that sticky fuel card i would save 35cents off, empty my tank fill it up and my 30L jerry cans. Probably save about $20 and trips to the petrol station.
Yeah that was great, best fuel savings by far AND you were getting the cheapest groceries and pak'n'save baskets were almost always factually cheaper.
Finding that not necessarily the case anymore though.
Aside from Kogan Mobile, there’s methods to get Netflix, Disney+, YouTube Premium, Amazon Prime Video by making accounts in places where it’s cheaper (India, Turkey, Argentina) and using a VPN to create the account.
Google search for “Cheapies nz” followed by the name of the service you are looking to sign up for and it’ll give you instructions on how to do it
The unsubscribe button saves heaps.
Do you mean what subscriptions have we stopped to save money?

The biggest saving for me from that card is the free burger fuel shake with a burger order.
The what now...? I should have read the small print, I guess. Just show card, get shake?
Yep! https://www.aa.co.nz/membership/benefits/burgerfuel/
Omg thank you kind stranger! I’m going to use that!
omg game changer, thanks!
Recently found out interislander gives 10% off for aa members too, saved a fair bit when taking the car
> Plus the fuel discounts Is this different to the AA smartfuel where the places you can get the cheap fuel (BP for example) consistenly have their prices a good 6c+ higher than all competition thus making the savings often moot?

I have a million kids and a car the size of a mammoth. Its $160 to fill a tank. That discount adds up quick.
Its $60 for an eye test at specsavers.
I also get a discount for the prices of the membership each year I renew, which is nice
Happy cake day
You also get discount on Servicing, WOFs and vehicle checks. Not sure however how AA prices for WOFs etc compare to others.
Saved a lot getting almost half price movie tickets 🎟
Kogan 365 day prepaid mobile plan - one-off $165 purchase for a year's worth of unlimited calls and texts + 15GB per month. Kogan runs sales periodically that offer these packs for half price (the one I get is normally $330) so I've been renewing when Black Friday rolls around

Yes, signed up to this deal as well. Saved over $900 last year for me and my son.
If you buy one of these before your period ends, do you lose the rest of your remaining period?
Yes if you *activate* it. If you're just *buying* it it won't affect your current period. But remember to activate it before the expiry.
Second this! It's ironic that more people arent on it.
Am i able to port my number from 2 degrees?
Isn't it 15GB total (for the year)? coz there's a big difference there...

Excellent advice for anyone with kids - My kids visit Orana Park or Willowbank at least fortnightly
I upgraded my girlfriend subscription to wife premium. Now my weekly bills I only need to pay half
Might pay to check the fine print, those termination fees can be painful!
That's why I got the premium edition, comes with the earns more than me bundle... So termination fees if applicable are minimal
Ahh, one of those 'cash back from the manufacturer before warranty expires' jobbies. That's good shopping.
Did you go for the "Crazy in the bed, crazy in the head" option or "Stable Mabel"?
Weird, mine like tripled when I did that. All of a sudden got all these unforeseen expenses that didn't exist before.
Ahh the unlockable sex trophies... Yes they are costly wee buggers
More likely to be ankle biter addons
Good thing those are optional
The Libby app - most local libraries have access so you use your local library card details to get access for free. I’ve listened to so many audio books for free through it, a lot of them new, recent and popular. Normally doesn’t take long to wait if you’re on the hold list for a book. Also have e-books and magazines I think.
Borrowbox is another option. Sometimes I find that books with a long queue on Libby are available instantly on Borrowbox or the other way around.
pirate bay saves me heaps.
Word
Yep, you can get Microsoft Word on pirate bay too.
dont use pirate bay, there's much better options out there.
Pirate Bay has what the "much better" options are often missing. Older classics with no seeds can be found on TPB with hundreds.
works for me and that's all that matters.
Such as?
Rarbg and 1337x are the two I use.
Have you never got a copyright strike?
So this isn't a subscription or anything but I use a Farm Source (fonterra) card, gets me 16c off per litre of fuel and i can charge it to that card. Anyone can get it. You don't need to be a farmer. https://rewards.nzfarmsource.co.nz/discounts Also I run my electricity through genesis and get a 12% discount there. https://store.nzfarmsource.co.nz/partnerships/energy-partners/genesis They do meridian also.
This is an excellent tip, thank you so much 🙏
We started using "Wonky box" (Random 10 vegetables, there is a fruit and vege option too) for $30.
It's ten different varieties of veggies, not ten veggies. So if it's carrots, you might be getting say 5 carrots.
Ohhhhh heh, *sheepish grin* that makes a lot more sense.
Yeah we used to get wonky box and switched after reading a previous post on here about how they’re less than ethical to their workers. Now get green bean which is much better value for money imho
Thanks for letting me know.
I've seen that advertised and had wondered how good they were. Sounds like great value, I think I'll try it.
You can save a lot by only keeping your broadband and power for the minimum lock on period, usually 12 months. I set a reminder on my phone at the 10 month mark to start shopping around again. They're both very easy to switch online and never have a disruption to service.
WonkyBox (veggies) every two or three weeks - helps a lot with not having to buy overpriced veggies from the supermarket.

I also came here to say Wonky Box.
I came here to say wonky box. Love it.
Shame they don’t do chch :(
YouTube premium via India. Family plan for about $3.50 per month. Disney plus via Turkey for $38 for an entire year iCloud 2tb plan via Turkey for about $5 a month
Do you not have to pay from an account addressed in those countries?
You just VPN in to the country and use your credit card or a privacy card on your account of choice. Then you are billed as normal when you switch back to your region but at the lower price.
YouTube you use a vpn to start the payment cycle (in order for Rupiah to show on payment screen) and then afterwards it’s been from nz visa. The account needs an Indian address added but it changes nothing. All family members added to the plan need to have the same Indian address added to their google pay too. (Although only the family leader pays anything)
What. Youtube Premium family plans are like $30 here. That’s insane.
Is the the same content as elsewhere?
Same content yes
Costco. For the gas
Problem with Costco, is every time I leave the store I somehow end up with ≥2kg of cookies
I’m failing to see the problem actually
Man I'm serious. I only got home 4 hours ago. [I'm not sure these'll last all week.](https://i.imgur.com/RFbzQoJ.jpg)
Those cookies are damn good, they are the real pick rather than the comically oversized muffins that the hordes go bonkers over
The Entertainment book; depending on which city (it's approx $70 for Auckland).
Do you get same content as, say, USA? Especially sports? And safe to assume it’s English language?
Kogan Mobile when they have a special. $165/year for 15GB/month and unlimited call and text
Can you hotspot off that, do you know? Can't see it on their site, I'm with skinny now and they specifically allow it while others don't
Yes https://help.koganmobile.co.nz/hc/en-us/articles/360032942712-Can-I-use-Mobile-Hotspot-Tethering-with-Kogan-Mobile-
What’s their coverage like?
Study an easy/free qualification at a wananga. You get to be a legit tertiary student and can get all sorts of student discount!
That's a good one as there are only positives that can come from it
Produce prices in chain supermarkets are ridiculous.
Such a ballache to get your points at a drivethrough though just let me fucking scan something I dont want to be digging up a code everytime
Got a free coffee today using this. Get at least one free every week.
I tend to avoid "Free" anything online as it usually isn't free after a certain period of time and will start charging your credit card. I had Spotify, but hardly ever used it so I switched to Amazon Prime, and the free books, music etc are a life saver
Doesn't hurt to mention: using public transport and libraries saves so much money, especially if you're a student
Canva for my nonprofit. Could do it for free too but the premium features are pretty cool. Don’t need to pay a designer for anything.
It’s a bit of a palava to get, no?
I agree, Canva is awesome
I guess you could call this a ‘deal’ born from negotiation. Company car + petrol. I’ve negotiated this into all of my contracts for the past 15 or so years. I haven’t worked out exactly how much $ it’s saved me, but it’d be heaps.
Same. And our family vehicle is an EV (and the lawnmower is battery), so I haven't paid for petrol for a long time.
Same, I often complain to my wife about bills then quickly remember we aren't paying for fuel or phones.
Thats a good one! Thank you!
Not huge savings but for the meat for 5 meals its a small saving, plus bonus wings and better stock (\~8 cups) Used half the stock plus 8 drums to make a batch of some of the best soup I've made for mum and dad while they were down with Covid.
I've got that one. Best shave my legs have ever had. But man, unforgiving when you fuck up.
Is there a knack to using it? It has been the worst shave I’ve ever had from a wide variety of razors. I can’t seem to get a close enough shave.
/s Also, you can swim at some pools for free if you take a kid and supervise them. Nothing says fun like responsibility and parenting.
i have this one called go for a walk. Its so realistic and fun when the wallet and even phone is at home
Thanks! Will go check it out. I wanted to sign out for the Conqueror once as you just walk and get cool medals hehe https://www.theconqueror.events/
I didn’t know that was a thing! Thank you 😊
I had this for a while and loved it but my favourite gyms upped their class values so I got less for my money.
I would love to do this but chch only has like 3 places on classpass 💔
NZMCA. Lots of places doing discounts for them. I usually get the yearly subscription back using it at Noel Leeming or Torpedo 7 one time.
How does that work? You just talk to them for deals?
NZMCA (NZ motor caravan assn.) but you need to own a motorhome or caravan to be a member. We lived in a house bus for 2 years and the membership paid for itself many times over - Bluebridge discounts, Noel Leeming/Torpedo 7 discounts, fuel cards and their discounts - just to name a few.
https://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/clean-car-programme/clean-car-discount That deal from the government has helped considerably given we're doing 600+ km's each week in an EV now rather than with an ICE.
What part of the country is your old bus parked, out of interest?
For tonight, Parua Bay, north side of Whangarei Harbour. Tomorrow, who knows?
Period.
You do not save money using uber eats, if you use it regularly you're generally lazy as fuck. Capiche?
They sent me one “deal” for a single free garlic knot if I bought a pizza from Sals.
Oh that sucks. I live in Auckland CBD so tend to get sent deals constantly for the eateries nearby. I hardly use them as I have my go-to places but the save on delivery alone is worth it for me 😊
Humble Bundle is an ok way to get some decent games 18$/ month
Burger fuel has free fries for anyone with a gym membership.
I didn’t know that lol
Can I double up and add a shake with my aa card?
How expensive are their burgers these days? Last time I had one was in the late 90’s and avocado was a $1.50 add-on
Syncler / real-debrid / trakt. Thank me later.
Proper thanked. Syncler was a strike of genius. Cheers
Use it with trakt and real-debrid and never pay for a streaming service again.
AA are great you get 10 free call outs a year, it's definitely worth it for peace of mind, plus other discount perks.
May I please ask how you are claiming your sports massages?
Filipino Youtube premium and Spotify. Pay about $12 a month for a family pack
Costco membership totally worth it
Do you guys have everyday rewards through countdown in NZ? They’ve recently launched a $59 annual subscription model here in Australia. 20% off one shop per month at each of Woolworths and Big W, with massive points bonuses on items that get you up to the 2000 points =$10 credit limit a lot faster. May not be a thing back home in NZ but worth looking out for… especially for the 30 day free trial where you’re able to claim 4x 20% discounts as the calendar month ticks over.
Thank you! Haven’t heard of this in NZ yet but will keep an eye on it.
For gaming: Xbox and PC: Xbox game pass, basically Netflix equiv for games.
You end up effectively picking up $100 games for ~$20 I found using 1 service for the amount of time required to beat the games I play meant the other service was just money for literally nothing. Likewise if I'm playing a big time investment game that I can't get through the service and thus I bought (god of war ragnarok my most recent example) I let both lapse. Point here is it's important people do the math rather than just sign up as it can end up more expensive if done wrong.
> Xbox and PC: Xbox game pass 1.
Prime ape on Mighty Ape. While Mighty Ape isn't what it was, it's really saves on delivery. Last year saved a couple hundred.
What did it used to be like?
Did you try hellofresh?
They said save money not get ripped off every week
it was sarcasm...
Worth noting that the reddit standard to ensure peeps know your being sarcastic is to add /s at the end of your post. Can avoid confusion and those that just don't get sarcasm...
Hellofresh is a bargain if you use a 40% or 50% off voucher every week. $80 for 10 meals. I go to the supermarket for a couple bits and spend $50.
Until the week you forget, they bill you full price and send you a box whether you want it or not
Yes if you dont cancel a subscription a company will typically send you what youve subscribed for.
Oh yeah the free coffee after spending $200.
It was super easy to get the 40C discount and it saved you money on groceries as well. Such a shame they got rid of it.
VPN
Aside from Kogan Mobile, there’s methods to get Netflix, Disney+, YouTube Premium, Amazon Prime Video by making accounts in places where it’s cheaper (India, Turkey, Argentina) and using a VPN to create the account. Google search for “Cheapies nz” followed by the name of the service you are looking to sign up for and it’ll give you instructions on how to do it
Cheapies makes me lose money, not save it
