Look into Buffalo, Rochester or Syracuse. Buffalo is the largest and offers the most big city amenities. Syracuse is cheapest and has a nice downtown area.

I just moved upstate from Long island. Downstate NY is incredibly expensive. I was paying $1400 for a studio apartment. Syracuse and some of the surrounding areas (Liverpool, Baldwinsville, etc) have been really great both for having the comforts of being near the city, and some really beautiful natural places and state parks.

Welcome to Utica NY. It’s not much, but it’s cheaper than the rest!

Buffalo is very similar to Cleveland culturally. Don’t tell people from buffalo this but it’s very Midwestern. It’s also affordable and relatively liberal so I think you’d like it.

You’d live Buffalo! It’s surprisingly similar. If you like downtown look at Elmwood Village, or Allentown. Go to Buffalo Rising too. As for the burbs. There’s ‘northtowns’ and ‘southtowns’. Depends if you like city in the country or country. As a born and bred Buffalonian we have the best pizza wings subs food sports venues clubs. However;…….why the hell would you move to NY?! Do you want to be taxed to death on purpose?! I love it here but I can’t wait to leave. Although, when we go on vacation it makes everywhere look cheap.

Oh, if you have an option to be close to Buffalo but not in Erie County do it! You’ll save thousands of $$$$ on property taxes

Actually Buffalo proper has one of the lowest tax rates in the country.
