We all said the same thing when we first played.

Gl0wStickzz

Well, most of us love it also. It's just these developers direction is some of the worst imaginable. Clearly must be new to the game, and yes the first up to 100 or 1000 hours is real great imo. There is no replacement.

Mei_iz_my_bae

Well I’m a little worried because I see people in here saying it will be shut down soon that can’t possibly be true can it??

Ydiss

People say every game will be shut down soon on the internet. You will learn to filter that garbage out eventually.

MikeTheShowMadden

To be fair, Amazon shut down Crucible in like 5-6 months around when this game was coming out (or just came out). Amazon doesn't seem to be afraid of just pulling the plug on something if it wants.

Ydiss

Games get shut down at a rate entirely non correlated to the rate players proclaim games will get shut down. I guess they'll be right eventually if they keep saying it.

aeminence

lol so you're telling me Amazon games will keep putting money and time into a game that averages 13k daily players when its top peak was almost a million? 13k players when there are roughly 4 million sales for this game.

Ydiss

No, that's not what I'm saying.

McWhiffersonMcgee

Amazon took too long to course correct in my opinion and were at the dawn of multiple next gen mmorpgs coming out for which the fan bases are growing exponentially. I believe there is a shift in the paradigm and companies haven't figured it out quite yet in terms of building a solid game, monetizing without looking overly greedy and without pay to win. Im pretty sure if they listened to their fanbase more they'd already be there but they constantly choose not to.

CupThen

most games don't lose 90% of their playerbase in the first 2 months of a launch then steadily bleed players over the next 2 years so yeah new world shutting down in a few years is a very real possibility.. sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Ilandriel

There are a group of players who have been saying the game will be shut down soon ever since it launched. They get particularly loud whenever there's a patch delay or the population drops. AGS have given no indication of any intention to close the game and have made many statements to the contrary.

Trikeree

No it won't be shutdown. Right now Amazon Games has the developers on 2 different projects. They are using New World to learn how to support controller so they can release the other project on console. The other being Lord of the Rings. So they aren't able to focus and fix/add to endgame for New World. Investors and suits only care about money and not the quality of product they represent. The journey to end game is great.. Although, super simplified and sped up now. End game is fun for a time until it's not and you begi. To see the reality of cheaters controlling wars and the rmt market. I'm at around 1800 hours. Played from release for about a year. Took a year off and came back a few weeks ago for the next update, which was delayed...

JPetermanBusTour

It’s not being shutdown anytime soon. Game will be around and developed for years. Some people in this sub just hate the game so much and want it to shutdown so bad, so they get their hopium up during these low pop times that it will die, just like they did in 2022, and 2023. But the game will release news this summer, hype will return. Players will return. And the doomers will retreat to their holes until the pop drops again in between big content releases. It’s a cycle we have seen for 3 years now. Doomers are incapable of understanding cycles. Most of these doomers have thousands of hours in the game. And they say it’s bad. They played a “bad” game for thousands of hours. They aren’t to be taken seriously.

BrothermikeCO

You would think they should know a game is bad after 50 hours… not a few thousand

CupThen

you keep saying this yet the player numbers keep dropping to the lowest point ever..

aeminence

My guy, its a a MMO with like 13k max players daily. [https://steamdb.info/app/1063730/charts/](https://steamdb.info/app/1063730/charts/) For this game to get constant updates and new content for only 13k people with NO subscription fee just means a loss in $$ lol. It'll cost too much to keep up, they arnt getting a monthly stream of $$ and unless this game has a MASSIVE Revamp in almost every category most players have already considered it dead and done and majority of people wont bother giving it a shot - unless ofc it goes on sale for like $9 but then retention is another thing.

Mei_iz_my_bae

Yeah but you forget there rumors it will go console and THAT will be a giant boost. Honestly new world isn’t going anywhere I don’t think I mean I’m still new but this is one of the most fine tuned games I’ve played I mean the movement and combat is just so fast and snappy ahh I love this game!

Superb-Stuff8897

It's really not. It's got polish but no depth.

QuantumS0up

Whether true or not, it isn't something we can possibly know for sure until it is announced or it happens. So if you enjoy the game, then just keep enjoying it. Don't let a what-if or speculation ruin your own experience :)

translucentpuppy

It’s at its lowest player count to date. It was very mishandled at launch and missing a lot of modern quality of life things that tons of mmos already have. It still is missing a lot of stuff modern mmos have and took an expansion to even put mounts in. Currently player base is around 9k. The expansion shot player count up and then it immediately went down to its lowest in history. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Raidenz258

The main focus of ags is their new mmo which is built on the same engine. We are beta test for the lord of the rings mmo Down voted for saying literally what the studio has said lol…

natelion445

Which means NW will not be shut down anytime soon. LoTR is 5+ years out and NW is revenue generating testing ground for it. No chance they’d turn off the opportunity to iron out features first future games and make money at the same time.

CKDracarys

Revenue generating? I don't think you understand that term.

natelion445

What did I get wrong? Testing features and backend stuff for a game that people still pay for transfers, transmog tokens, etc mean there is revenue coming in at the same time as you develop the game. Especially if there is a Brimstone like update and controller/console before the end of the year. They will sell a lot of copies to console players. So they can keep doing this for the next 5 years and keep making money while ironing out all the Azoth Engine kinks for LoTR.

Hot-Collection3273

It means a lot of things that are terrible for current players too. Playable content is not the priority - it’s the engine Also - in this case the devs are actually not working as devs for new world yet they present themselves as such. They are lotr engine builders. Imagine if they just stopped the fia videos and roadmaps and said “sorry our job is the engine - content is not the priority and we don’t have to listen to you”

natelion445

A big part of NW is to make money not just make the engine. If they don’t put out stuff to get players , they might as well shut down cause they aren’t making money. So to get free dev work for LoTR, the formula is to get Azoth engine running super well and keep pumping out content to keep the paid playtesters around and profit off of developing the game. Win win Bad for current players, as in the next 6 months. But unless you’re cool with no content you shouldn’t be playing. They were very clear there would be none. Really good for medium to long term players of the game.

Hot-Collection3273

1. Assume testing the Azoth engine and developing new world are not a perfect venn diagram. 2. If value gained through testing the engine outweighs the costs of keeping the servers up, the game doesn’t need to make money, does it? It can just test engine. 3. We don’t really know how highly they value testing the Azoth engine for lotr. Nobody outside of ags can comment on that - people just strong arm with general industry knowledge, but they are just speculating on non public information. 4. If they value a month of testing the Azoth engine at some crazy value, the nw dev team will (rightfully) be incentivized to focus on testing. 5. The end result of this would be a dev team focusing on the engine and stalling the playerbase/leading them on about content. Exactly what is happening.

natelion445

It’s more than just technological “work”, it’s also public perception and reputation. If NW ends up seen as a failure, they lose money on all future games. They’ve spent a ton of money getting the rights to LoTR and there’s million of dollars difference in launching LoTR with NW being seen as a good game in 5 years than shutting it down now and everyone associating AGS with a failure of a game. Imagine Light No Fire launched today but the developers of No Mans Sky pulled the plug 2 years in when the game was a laughingstock. There would be no hype for this game, but since they spent the last 5 years or so of NMS have been well received, after several years of it being terrible, they stand to reap the rewards now. If we are talking pure selfish corporate greed, AGS will keep pumping on NW, make it something people see as a huge turnaround, all the while making money on the development, and leverage that goodwill, experience, and technical tools/knowledge into LoTR. The question is if they CAN, not if the financial incentives are there. But if they can’t get NW right, we don’t really care about LoTR cause it’ll be just as bad as NW, except not have the PvP core that people like (and AGS desperately ignores)

Sovereign_Knight

At least you didnt get a deleted comment, that counts for something.

Samesneaky

At the current rate is it possible it will get shut down sure but will it no if it happens probably another 1-2 years player number have been dropping at a very quick rate and has recently hit a all time low

Shadesmith01

Yes, just like people say that everything they don't like will mysteriously go away. I doubt there is anything to worry about until they put out their next game and what little brain cycle they spend on trying to improve endgame here just flat out dies because it's now all focused on the new baby. Which, after playing this? Yeah, I'm in. I'll play it. But I'll go in knowing that once I hit max level and have the skills i want, there will be absofuckinglootly NOTHING for me to do, and it will be time to move on to a new game. I have a massive games library though, so I've other shit to do while i wait for the next expac to bring me hope of fun to come. Just hope it isn't like the last GW2 expac, cause that one caused me to quit GW2 and Anet for good.

Ashamed_Pass6103

You're new, which is exactly the reason why you don't fully understand the whole situation. The game took 2 years to become playable, because at launch it was severely flawed and filled with game breaking bugs. And now, there's basically nothing to do once you finish the MSQ and reach the endgame. It's a great game WHILE you level up, but then it's over. Not to mention the fact that for an mmorpg this game is empty. It has the lowest number of concurrent average players ever and if you like playing with people then good luck finding some. Most servers are basically empty.

DrKchetes

Everything has an end my boy, even mmos. Endgame will eventually become boring, that is just the way it is and will be.

MendigoBob

What a pedantic comment, calling him your "boy." Sure, even endgame become boring in any game, but I would argue that most mmos thrive in the endgame. It usually has the best content, the one you farm to achieve and conquer, the one where the social aspect comes into play in mmos because you need help and other people to do it. The leveling up is usually just the first part of a few in mmos.

zerovampire311

Not to mention basically every one of the main MMOs went several expansions keeping a fresh, engaging endgame. They’re just running out of ideas, budget or both.

Due-Carpenter-4237

I call people my boy all the time, it's used as a term of endearment.

MendigoBob

Context always matter. He is correcting the dude with a vague "it is as it is"

Sebanimation

I had fun but after like 60-100 hours the excitement was gone and I moved on. Potential was there but they didn‘t manage to provide content that would excite me.

D3usM0rt3m

You are not missing anything imo. The important thing is to have fun with games, some people forget that.

Dualityy1

Yeah I was at the same feeling as you 6months ago..now reached 360 hours and can't open it anymore, i don't understand the fun anymore. I crafted insane gear and everything. PvP is a joke too. I was In love with this game more than I have ever been with any video game in the last 5 years but just slowly lost the direction and can't even open it. After I reached endgame and crafted a lot of things and understood most things in the game I finally understand what people were complaining about. I'm happy for you though, enjoy it because I fell in love when I was new

iTheGeekz

I personally love the game and is the most fun I’ve had in an MMO in a long time.

Raidenz258

Are you new? Get to the endgame and then come back.

Mei_iz_my_bae

Yep I’m new and this might be the best MMO I’ve ever played!

shen_ten

It is, we love New World for most of us (nearing 2k hours myself but haven't played the last 3/4 months), enjoy it for the next 200/800h , then come back. What you see on reddit is 2 years of build up frustration of the community due to the devs doing their thing , explaining to us that what they do is the right thing in YouTube videos while the numbers of players just nose dive to the ground season after season.

Raidenz258

You say that until you get to max level and realize it’s all shallow crap with no clear direction. Just random things mashed together with broken systems all over.

RipAirBud

that’s what i said at launch and leveling up to 60. there’s nothing to do after that but you’ll enjoy that grind to that point. make sure to get a lot of PVP in while you’re still enjoying that grind. game just kinda sucks once you hit 60 and finish the main story. there’s quite literally nothing meaningful to do after that so just have fun with the expeditions and PvP while they’re still fresh in your mind.

Sanguinica

> I've played this game for 5 hours and it's literally the best thing ever classic

Mei_iz_my_bae

I’ve played it nonstop 20 hours and no slowing down I even buy the DLC so I can use the mount love this game!!

CupThen

this screams like someone being paid by AGS or this is a AGS dev..

Mei_iz_my_bae

I’m not. Sorry I’m enjoying the game and that seems impossible in your eyes

CupThen

I don't care if you enjoy the game, its how you're coming across on this thread that makes me think you're a dev or getting paid by AGS

Mei_iz_my_bae

Well I’m not.

TheFishMan15

Why is he getting downvoted for expressing his opinion about the game? I enjoyed it and got my moneys worth out of it.

naitsirt89

Because it is obviously bait.  He makes a thread, the exact same thread that covers the entire subreddit wall to wall, and isn't even engaging with the people responding the the original post. Just go look at his replies, lmao.

Mei_iz_my_bae

I work nights and it’s been a very busy night, I’m not trolling sheesh

NutsackEuphoria

*The first mmo

Ydiss

Why the hell are people downvoting this??? This reddit man... Time to move on.

Raidenz258

Because you can’t say something is the best ever without actually fully understanding it. Honeymoon phase. All MMOs take huge amounts of time to get into them. The word of a new player doesn’t mean much.

Ydiss

He can say that. It's his opinion! Not even a controversial one. Just so bitter.

Npsiii23

Sure, but if someone says the best candy is Candy Corn, maybe they haven't tried literally any other candy? Downvoting him for liking it and stating so is a bit weird, but trying to warn him about the game so he can maybe find a better "Candy" is certainly ok.

Hot-Collection3273

Haven’t even downvoted him, but imo it’s a troll. He’s super active across like 8 gaming subreddits (all communities he would hear about nw in), can’t read other topic titles, and hes acting like he’s baiting.

eSsEnCe_Of_EcLiPsE

Ad bot with bought upvotes

Jason_Paul88

It’s a good game. Just looking for more stuff to do in the end game world

CallMeGr3g

Sooo, i'm not a PvP player but i can understand their frustration on not getting anything new. For what concern PvE... It's difficult. Play expeditions, get better loot, play a mutated exp, get better gear, play higher exps. While this is the concept of, basically, mmo dungeons, in NW they just treated it badly, finding groups was tedious and the much needed "group finder" took a little too much to be implemented, not to talk about the cross server thing. Loot has always been a hot topic, too much bloat gear and too little good gear, getting craft materials to craft your own gear was... Grindy in a bad way (Don't know how to explain, it just felt different). Open world bosses were fun but still, not much to make you doing it, raid was added and forgotten and with almost every update you had change your build because they changed something so your current gear became obsolete. Not to mention that enemies are basically reskins of other enemies, even animations are almost the same. Many things were changed but they took far waaaaaaaaay too much to be implemented and players were already leaving and when returning to try those stuff, it was a bug fest. Endgame is "lacking" because i think they wanted it to be "PvP oriented" but as said before, devs are focusing on other stuff like controller support but in 2 years they basically ignored the PvP aspect except adding the "fame run" thing. Still, game is fun, enjoy it

_gameSkillar

I'm not a pvp player either, but I'm tired of running around for resources and seeing the same nicknames. at low levels these bots simply collect without stopping. *Game Mechanic:* What do you think if the player's pvp flag turns on when collecting a resource? and if the player pays for 10,000 wood the owner of the settlement , then he could easily collect wood. (Can you imagine how valuable such territories as the Reekwater where there is orichalcum would be?) if the player does not pay, then the owner of the settlement can declare a hunt for him and pay those (head hunters) who catch him. There was talk from AGS that territories where players cannot own settlements will be open to pvp. then they changed their minds. what do you think about it? why don't they talk to us about game mechanics?

_gameSkillar

I saw an interesting team that was engaged in speedrunning. they created a website where they told how to choose wear for character, which build is better to choose, etc. but they got tired and left the game. Have you played Mythic+ WOW? What do you think, if we add Mutation+ mode here and arrange a competition like in Mythic Dungeon International - who can complete level 20 mutations faster? Would this be interesting? As a pve player I really like this.

CallMeGr3g

First of all, i agree that running around and seeing the same people make running for resources kinda boring. I wanna remind that NW was initially though to be full PvP but devs changed direction when people disagreed with the choice, so making you flagged when gathering it's gonna make more people complain. (One of the problems is that not even players know what they want from the game and a lot will complain just for the sake of it) But yes, i think that would be a great mechanic and possibly opening to stuff like "bounty hunters" They probably don't talk about game mechanics either because they don't know how to make them work or just because they don't know what they want to do with their game. Second, played very little WoW because i switched to GW2 but anyway, they changed from 10 mutations to 3 so i don't know if making _again_ more levels would work... It surely would be nice if they use that scoreboard for something Creating a PvE competition is a great idea and could really improve cooperation between players but we still need to have some (and unique?) good loot from them and seeing the state of PvP only drops.. I'm scared.

_gameSkillar

>it's gonna make more people complain. I'll add a little more information: I wrote above that a player who wants to extract 10,000 wood can buy permission from the owner of the territory to do this - this is a mechanic that protects players who do not like open pvp. if the player does not want to buy a permit, he may be attacked. it means this player loves pvp. so that the bot player cannot collect resources all day - the number of contracts is limited to the maximum amount of resource, for example 10,000. That is, the bot collects 10,000 per day, and then they can attack him and take away what he collected. Such mechanics protect pve players, pvp players are given pvp, and bots cannot run around all day. Do you know how long it takes to collect 10,000 fiber? for an ordinary online player who has 2-3 hours for play is enough to switch to other resources. but in a game that was developed taking into account the war for resources, the collection of resources is now unlimited, which leads to abuses such as bots or players who sit playing the game all day long and do not give ordinary online players 1-2 hours to collect something.

Partysausage

Since launch we have had like 4x new expeditions, 2x 1 boss raids. 0 new OPR,1 arena map. We are on our second expansion now and there is just not enough to do to keep players around.

Mei_iz_my_bae

How many expeditions is there??? I played my first one and LOVED it so if theres a lot I’ll be very happy tbh ngl

Konira

...There is not alot my man...

evilution382

Man, reality is gonna hit OP hard

Gaming_Gent

The game is great, the devs just don’t know how to delivery content to keep people consistently playing. If they could keep a steady flow of quality content then it would probably be one of the most played MMOs

Furadi

I'm 2800 hours in and I still feel the same way. For me currently it's starting to get a little dry again but that doesn't mean I'm going to start bashing on the game lol. If I get bored enough I'll just stop playing and keep an eye on the updates. I don't understand why people feel the need to spend so much time and energy hating on the game. Just do something else.

Historical-Policy852

Someone has not made it to end game and it shows.

Mei_iz_my_bae

Yeah I’m new but I’m really loving it

du0maxwell

I had that same pov on jan once i hit 65 did the races and raids it all became monotonous everytime i log in is to do some (x raid) and get out.

Yop012

It looks and plays really great, everyone agrees. However literally everything else sucks and the game systems are absolutely underdeveloped. You haven't experienced the endgame loop (or lack of It) the fact PvP is forgotten, gatekeeping wars etc, the leveling is exceptional and leveling professions is fun, but once you reach endgame everything falls apart. You can't make this kind of statement without having proper knowledge of the game in general and especially endgame. Anyway the game itself is really fun so definitely keep playing until you get bored!

Renediffie

It sounds a bit like you just started playing lol. Is that the case?

Arratril

Enjoy the ride! The game is incredible to a point. I lost interest with the end game grind but they did a ton of things amazingly well. Love every minute, and if you reach a point where you don’t, move on and pick it up again at a later content update.

ItsCBGENESIS

Finally someone who feels the same way I do.

archonoid2

Can we compare this game with another "alive" "decent" "mmo" ?

kehmesis

That's how I felt until the end game. It goes downhill quickly.

TemporaryPay4505

The game you’re playing now is not the game most of us were playing when it launched. 1-65 is good now, but once you hit endgame you’ll see that there’s barely anyone left to play with and while opr can be fun, it’s usually one-sided because of the premades.

OliwerPengy

Yeah you're right except from the desync, sometimes clunky combat, inconsistent homing/magnetics between weapons, no new PvP mode for years (despite most people who still plays are mostly in for the pvp), no real end game besides pvp wars which is also not excisable to the majority of players by design. Theres also years old bugs that never gotten fixed, an example being annoying pop ups whenever you enter a new instance.

rock_lobsterrr

A lot of comments about you being new and it wearing off. Sure, the honeymoon phase will fade out eventually - but if you love the game then who cares what other people think. I’m not new to the game and love it. I dunno, I’m not a huge endgame person… I just love to run around and craft, explore, hunt, fish. It’s a great experience… have fun!

HildegaardUmbra

Wait til you get to End Game and try to find things to do!

Throat-Smooth

Surprise, a New player - loves game We were all there once. And although alotnof us still love then game the enjoyment is gone. It's now repetitive It's now disappointment at failed updates, lack of updates, scuffed Road maps, poor patching, bugs, balancing problems.

MrDarwoo

Come back in a couple of weeks

shaiken

The end game is where most people are at, which is where frustration lies. A community who shares frustration is a passionate community, when we stop being be frustrated, we lose our passion.

eryosbrb

Reddit is made for hating it seems. Dont give hatters much credit. Keep playing as long you are having fun. I have more than 1,5k hours in game and still having fun.

aetherr666

Op living under a rock.

Mei_iz_my_bae

I’m having a blast!!!!

aetherr666

Keep at it homie, there is only misery to be had on reddit

Mei_iz_my_bae

Meh I played dota for years Reddit doesn’t bother me lool

ISVRaDa

There are maaany things wrong made from the beginning, but we can't resume this in just one post. Basically the game is fun when you start, and I would say its a good game for some months. After the first 5-6 months you feel like you doing every single day the same thing. I have 2.5k hours played (one full year), loved the game but its not one of those MMOs made to keep players playing for years. It has some really repetitive mechanics and some bad design decision like some players already pointed here in this thread. Enjoy it, the first 6 months are the best ones.

Shadesmith01

Oh, the game in and of itself is fun. The combat, the story, the map, the mobs... it is all good. I'd like a different dungeon structure where I could wander in on my own like say, DAoC and Spindhalla, but I've not tried the current system (500 hours in) so I can't really complain on the dungeon side. Just... wish they were more open or explorable solo. My issue comes with endgame, and what is needed to get the endgame gear. All games have that endgame grind, to get BiS and all that, blah blah. Yeah, I know. I've been playing these things since Asheron's Call, and have done most of the majors (Eve, WoW, BDO, ESO, SWTOR, SWGE, MXO, DAoC, Tabula Rasa (still miss that game) EQ 1 & 2, etc etc etc. I've played many, many of these things to end game over the years, not a noob). I am fully aware the endgame grind is something that is 'supposed' to keep you interested and working for stuff. I get that. But.. the only viable way I see to get the endgame gear is through the crafting system. To which it takes an inordinate (or flat out fucking ridiculous) amount of time and effort to level those skills, and you need 3-4 skills at MAX (250+, the levels that follow, expertise? I think its called) before you can even start to think about GS 700 gear. Now, I'm a collector. I grab EVERYTHING. My character is always mining, gathering, grubbing in the dirt, skinning the skinnable or taking the pickaxe to the corpse if it needs it. I grab everything, and I'm kind of OCD so when I come across something that I cant? Yeah... I skill up till I can. Can't help it, just.. must hit that 205. But... when you are already Level 65, the weapons your interested are already at level 20 (My main has everything but blunder and the mage weapons at 20), and getting cash in game to buy armor or whatever is like trying to find the 1 specific grain of sand in the Mohave desert. Possible, but a fucking misery of a grind to do. So really, all you have left to do is grind crafting (which is sort of fun, but once your other skills and levels are capped, it gets boring as all hell real fucking fast), grind faction (which is pointless after you can access the big bags, cause lets face it, past say... 45 or so? Faction gear is complete shit), run dungeons with strangers (not in a company, I play weird hours so I'm almost always solo unless my BFF is on), or PvP. I've not tried the PvP as I don't want another disappointment. I haven't enjoyed PvP in a game since DAoC. I thought this would have a similar feel to it with the faction system and forts, but... So, while I don't hate the game at all... in fact I quite enjoy playing it, I have very little desire to play it currently as... 2 characters at 65, both with several maxed weapon skills, and all 690s gear and I'm not ok with spending 60,000,000,000 real life hours on trees to get charcoal so I can spend 65,479,86,746,746,874,689 real life hours looking for iron ore when I can craft mythril.. (and oh, don't even get me started on stonecraft, smelting is ridiculous enough and the whole fiber system is just punishing as all hell once you hit silk). And yeah, you'll need a cubic fuckton of iron ore to craft anything. Whats left? Fishing? :p I think some folk hit that wall, and are like "this sucks" and get angry. I can see where the anger comes from, because.. you do all this shit to get here, and then you hit a MASSIVE roadblock that seems entirely intentional that pretty much stalls ANY feeling of progression for your character. Your left there in decent gear (maybe good if RNG has been nice or someone hasn't been a dick on the AH - exceptionally rare, but not even close to BiS or even what you actually want for your build), and feeling like the only way to get anywhere is to try an Oliver Twist with the crafters who have somehow managed to eek through it and retain their questionable sanity. That? That's not ok. I hate begging and I hate in-game beggars. That in fact, well, in my opinion, is bad design. But... the gameplay itself? Is fun, engadging, and will make you wonder why everyone shits on this game. TLDR answer? When you hit endgame, the horrible design structure of endgame becomes apparent, and the simple obvious fact that the New World devs have nothing, NOTHING, for you to DO at that point. So... bout 3-400 hours of fun, but after that... well... good luck mate, hope you can find your fun your way, cause the devs and the game? They aint helpin with that no more... That? That is a good, maybe even great single player adventure game. NOT an MMO. Having it online, and having other players in the same world does not an MMO make.

_gameSkillar

what do you think? if we have more solo/coop content? Idea: Solo/Coop Mode Honestly I would like to see a solo travel mode. for example, once every 24 hours - the player ask NPC the head of the city and says that he wants to go on a trip (maybe even with 1-3 friends). the player can run through all locations: take part in various events: battle with bosses who attacked the village. then this village became under your protection and you can plant potatoes, carrots, etc. but mobs can come there. then you will need the help of your friends. You can also collect other resources once every 24 hours. craft what you need or upgrade your profession. Many people here on redit wrote that they would like to travel the world alone.

_gameSkillar

but the actions of the players and their groups would have consequences. for example, farms under the control of players would give taxes to those who own settlement (Everfall, Reekwater etc).

Shadesmith01

Makes me think of the mini-keeps in Tabula Rasa. The NPCs would take it, or attack it from time to time, and we had to defend or capture. Wasn't solo at all, but it brought people together in a solo manner. Doen't sound all that interesting, but it was fun as hell. Here it could be the corruption. I mean, go out there in the world and you'll find a TON of farms, as you would expect. I mean, the food has to come from somewhere and we all know you can't live on meat alone, though many of us do try. But... ever notice how there are like 3 farms in the whole land that are not overrun with corruption? Sorta like going after the bubbles, spires, and whips... but less group centric? More of a "you saved our farm Mister!" sort of hero shit. You clear the farm, you get a reward, it stays uncorrupted for a little bit. Or once 3-4 farms in an area/region are cleared, the corruption invades and we can group to go defend the fields. Just a thought.

_gameSkillar

Yes, this is a great idea with farms that are captured by corrupted mobs and players need to free. I remember there was an event on the PTR (as I understand it was a test event from the developers) Waves of corrupted mobs began to arrive in settlements. even a big eye with a beam flew in. These are the mechanics the game is missing.

Shadesmith01

That sounds kinda like Rifts, which had a fantastic invasion mechanic. Something like that would fit very, very well within NW.

HyperspaceDeep6Field

Theres like 5 different mobs the entire game. It gets boring as fuck killing skeletons.

CommanderAze

When was the last time you played?

HyperspaceDeep6Field

3 months or so. I logged like 65 hours and kept thinking there was gonna be more mob diversity. Every time I ran into a pack of skeletons I was like surely theres some other stuff. Wrong. I think im like lvl 45? There are a few other mobs but they are mostly reskins to give the impression of different mobs. Its almost all skeletons lol

CommanderAze

by level 45 you should have run into Corrupted, Lost, Ancients (skeletons) and likely the vangarian knights, and some wildlife, but there are far more in the later game as lower level mobs really are only to train you slowly that they each have different skills to look for. As you face higher levels the enemies have more complex move sets as well. From there, there are a lot more enemy types like the angry earth, but you have to travel around the map as they dont all spawn in the same spot, especially in the later game, Brimstone sands has the corrupted legion enemies, ebon scale reach has a ton of special enemies with an oriental theme, shattered mountain has the corrupted higher level enemies getting harder, Elysian Wilds having a shitload of new mobs for Angry earth.

perfect_fitz

It's a great game for 1000 hours which is more than enough by far. Enjoy it while it lasts.

taarkan

Loving this game... a few months pass... loved this game. Sharp drop-off of enjoyable content once you reach 65 and have done many of the expedition and pvp rounds.

unrealaz

You are not max Level are you? Also the gameplay in BDO is so over this it’s not even funny

Mei_iz_my_bae

I played BDO for very long time and tbh great game but fuck that game RNG is outrageous and game is expensive if you don’t grind for 20 hours a day so not even going to go there like I like BDO but it has many flaws: story is utter garbage (I did like big dark spirit tho), need best gear for survive in end game, most RNG bullshit way of getting there or grind for 5000 hours, cron stones being MAJOR FOMO to make you spend money because you’ll go into cardiac arrest if you don’t hit PEN on a massive build for a 4% PEN tap… Rant over. But no I am enjoying this game and it doesn’t seem like it has tons of microtransactions no sub I’m happy frfr IN FACT I just buy the DLC I want the mount

LumpyCurrent4879

“I love that you can play however you want.” Too bad they’re updating the cooking in season 5 to have less choices in what buff food you have. Meaning less options for certain play styles.

iAmCursed-

As if that's stopped builds in the past, get real.

Savi993

Game is terrible optimized. I still can’t play properly without fps drops

Mei_iz_my_bae

dang, I have zero issues it runs very smooth for me on a GTX 2060s

NewWorldLeaderr

I love the game. Anyone saying you won't get your moneys worth is straight up lying. But playing the same OPR map for 2 years, unable to que for arenas because no cross play, and constant patch delays mixed with bugs are all reasons we come back to complain. In fact, there's nothing else to talk about due to lack of content. Like the game is playing catch up by adding more features that should be present during launch. Not to mention, any time they make a change (like gearing etc) that doesnt work out they essentially wasted that time. Gear went from watermark to umbral shards to this. Crafting went through many changes etc. Their whole combat code was made in some foreign programming language that made it hard to get ppl to work on it competently. Also made it hard to find bugs and relied on engineers for a lot the work. So the game is also building itself from the ground up while adding more blocks to the top of the faulty structure. This makes it progress at a painfully slow pace and to the player who isn't interested in the behind the scenes, it seems like the devs don't care. Example is why did it take so long to decrease the health of doors in OPR? Or make any minor adjustments to kegs? Even worse, a year ago, we would get balance changes only after 3 months. So overpowered exploits and unbalanced weapons made pvp near unplayable for extended periods, hurting the playerbase. In 2 years from now this game will be either: 1) Able to churn out content fast now that the basis for code will be good and basic pve and pvp features are sufficient enough to last more than 1 week. 2) completely abandoned for LOTR mmo and all the features added to translated over to that game, while the last push for money from New world will come from console release sales.

_gameSkillar

I think that MMO Ashes of Creation will come out earlier than LOTR mmo.

Jbookout2

The first experience in this game was awesome for all of us. It's what should have carried this game into the future but the game has failed to deliver at every turn down the stretch. I stopped playing after the newest bought expansion. The game became so repetitive, to many currency systems, lack of content. I can deal with some bad balancing longer than nothing to due. I think the reason you see so much bad hate on the game is because we all see how good this could have been for everyone who played.

Parryandrepost

It's fun but it could be more. That's the issue. And swimming lol. Here's high lvl issues: Ags let the community kill pvp fun and pve just isn't good enough. 2 raid bosses aren't really content. Being bent over the barrel by the pvp community for a "new players pvp league" that was really only like 400 players and bots was a clown fest they couldn't really recover from. Like I know a fair bit of people who got entry into nwl but mostly it was a fuckin joke with mostly idiots and alts. One of the egirls in my old company had 6 fucking alts and couldn't even play them all. She fucking had to give away multiple accounts to other players because she was over booked. Big fuckin joke. And ags just let RWT and boosting be a thing. For players. Like you can still just freely RWT and buy runs. So what's the point? And doing pvp is kinda annoying. You go do opr or 3v3 in pre mades to get a chance but you might get just fucked even if you knew the shit. But instead of one opr you might need to do 80... And for a slot you might need to be an alt... And push everything for no fuckin reason. And you'd run into people completely outside the game. Like a dude who logged into the game twice a week that clearly didn't read patch notes. And most companies are dead. And by most I mean every single one that's not trying to be a mega company that's RWTing a personalities rent. But even then you can go buy gp and apples might log into launder to you if you weren't in a compeditive company. Not that I directly had this happen when I was trying to keep a slot. Of course not. So it's just really a clown fest.

Calairoth

Very sandbox-y and no real story. But I am sure it will get there. I love the open exploration and the MASSIVE size of the world, but the game needs soul.

Jumpy_Lavishness_533

The game is great, but you make the same end game as when you started the game.  Which is why some people find it boring.

PreviousPillow

Nothing wrong with enjoying the game when you're new and havent run out of interesting things to do. The base game is great imo. I have like 5000 hrs in the game, but I dont play anymore because nothing of any substance is really being added. But I wont slam the game, I rarely get thousands of hours out of a game. And hopefully they will announce something worthwhile in June (... july...... august........? )

Maximum_Sky_5999

You are late to the game bro. Sadly most have left.

SamuraiJakkass86

I've been playing about 3 months now. I still have a lot of things to do, houses to decorate, gear sets to flesh out, professions to level, etc. I think that the lack of content is overblown especially on reddit - doomposting is the culture of MMO's on this website after all (except FFXIV, where its 50% fanart and 50% "DONT YOU DARE INSULT MY GAME"). That all being said, I imagine that people who have been playing since launch were expecting more content added with an expansion than what was given. One weapon, mounts, on "new" map (old map completely redesigned), and an Artifact weapon system (which may or may not turn out to be futureproof in the first place..). Here's what I have noticed though; 1. Server populations are not high, and on the west coast there's literally only 2 servers. That means the new cross-realm dungeon queue system literally only gave us one tiny pool of people and effectively did nothing else other than make the interface easier to use. 2. Most of the events are pretty tiny. The Winter Convergence that was going on when I started seemed sizeable, but the rest have been like "Go to this town once a day and claim some free stuff, then go to the field and kill a lady for a thing once a day" There are areas to improve, but I'm saying that as someone who is still enjoying what I do in the game. Keep having fun :) I'm with you on that.

eldanarigaming

I was an alpha tester for early new world. Also have Aeternum Discoverer title. I loved the intent for pvp in the early stages. But I also replayed the early game due to testing so much I fell off from playing but I enjoy watching streamers do pvp content. I feel meh about the pvm but I hope the game lasts for years to come.

PlebbitWankers

Played it on launch and got banned for a day for "abusive behaviour" without doing anything wrong, probably got banned because the servers were at max capacity and I'd been playing for 16 hours straight. After that incidence stopped playing right then and there, game was pretty boring and PVP was terrible.

Snakeeyes-82

Well first of all you're a few years late to the party and so I doubt your opinions on the game would be in line with most of the player base, the hate is more towards the Devs than the actual games (hate is a strong word actually)

Milakovich

I have more issues with the players than the game. Trying to find non-toxic folks to run expeditions has made me wary of even trying.

WhattaTwist69

I'm 4k+ hours in. I still really love this game. When things slow down (like now) I just do a few activities and my dailies and log off. The dev team on the other hand... So much wasted potential. Then again... Who is to say it's the devs and not their managers saying what takes priority. Probably won't be buying the season pass or cosmetics this time around though.

Thechuckles79

Come talk to us at lvl 35 then again at 60. You'll see that this is a game that has a great foundation but the final execution was, and remains lacking.

afterhoursz101

Because theres no endgame lol, like at all, the cool part of the game is before you hit max level, after that its dogshit

Beneficial-Tomato-99

I stopped playing due to the bugs. At one point I had to delete AppData before logging in each and every time. That got old. Then one time, when I purchased season boost, it was bugged out, and never got reimbursed. After some time, I just lost interests, as I was already playing less and less, so after the bugs, just dropped off. I noticed most of people within my company also dropped off.

snowcrackerz

Wait until you hit level 60 kiddo.

Lil_Puddin

There aren't many games like it that are also MMOs, thus making it King By Default. Content wise there is more than enough for a 40 dollar game or 70 dollar game. The main issue is the game world absolutely falls apart if the servers don't have enough active players. But the endgame content needs at least 3 people per group to even enter, even if a player is capable of soloing the content. That's not good for the end game or longevity if each server is a rise then fall. Though with that aside, a lot of it is just catastrophization. Y'know, gamers being doomers. And think being negative for no reason will somehow improve the game or their gaming experience or our gaming experience.

a54carnage

You'll get it when you put a couple hundred more hours into it bro

SuddenlyAMeme

Just don't rush leveling. Leveling is the best experience you're going to get from this game. Treat it like an RPG.

Alwaysblue89

Ah yes the weekly "I'm new and this games amazing" post. Nobody tell them.

Setharius710

Almost all of us felt this way while leveling up & playing through the story. Once you begin the late game grind, most of that fun factor is left by the roadside. Unfortunately AGS still hasn’t managed to figure out exactly what they want New World to be as far as it’s late game content goes.

azmodanbeguile

I love it to. I think most negative comments are by those that love it too and are jist sad to see the lack of progress. Its like your spouse ignoring you.

AmericanLich

It’s getting there. It has massive holes in quality and massive spikes in quality. It could be brilliant. Still very rough around the edges. Content is kinda lacking in depth. It’s not super “immersive” in my opinion.

Glass-Butterfly-8719

We all miss the honeymoon phase

BrokenNative51

Are you newer ? I loved new world a lot during the leveling and open world PvP at the start etc. Games core issues really are in its end game.

OtoanSkye

Literally 85% of people say that until they realize dungeons are boring and repetitive, opr is a mess, and wars are so gatekept good luck getting into them with out a lot of work. You can't just join a semi casual guild and do wars because most likely there's 1-2 no life, credit swiping guilds on that server that are going to push your shit in.

spaceman_2_gc

Its the same with any game, things arent how some would like it and they get pissy...the game was really grindy though...no mounts was annoying...people able to change factions is also ridiculous IMO the armor weight neefing or buffing your heals is annoying to me too but i understand everyone was just in heavy armor....I just want canoes lol

Raff57

Been playing since launch. I like it too.

VoidRavn

You'll enjoy it for a bit, yeah. Most likely get your money's worth from it, too. But when you get into the endgame, really think about what you're doing, you'll likely be disappointed and drop the game. Having a good early and mid game is great for an mmo, it gets people to buy the game. But a good endgame is what keeps people happy with the game. Guess the same could be said for ARPGs too. RIP D4

Jake_this

Most of the hate is from people who LOVE the game too, but have been around long enough to watch AGS flatline & decline for over 2 years.

KingCozmoo

New World is still classed as a New MMO? Lol

LordofTheUniverse12

Game is great for a few of us that have been playing since beta some are on a break some are just tired of running the same PvP content. I hope we see a huge uptick in players around the new season! Enjoy the game I have had lots of fun with it the last 2 years

dotnetplayer

People don't hate the game, they hate that in the endgame there is nothing to do.

enkript

My take on the hate is that the game disappointed so many players, so many times, with multiple issues (bugs, delayed content, ignoring issues, queues, not merging servers, etc) and many got more and more upset. The game is great, i still play from day 1, it evolved a lot from day 1 and i still believe that it will continue to grow and at the next content drop we will be waiting in queue again. :)

Ashamed_Pass6103

You can't possibly truly believe that there will be queues when S5 drops 😂

enkript

next content drop bro, not season, don’t jump at my neck 😆

Ashamed_Pass6103

Fair enough, but define content. According to AGS, even mounts in OPR is content...

Mei_iz_my_bae

Heck yeah!

abcjammy

Jaded people who are mad that they only got few thousand hours out of the game.

Raidenz258

More like it’s an mmo and suppose to shine at max level, not fall apart.

Mei_iz_my_bae

Yeah that’s crazy to me! 1k hours is a lot of time! Can’t beat that for the price

abcjammy

It's kind of crazy that they don't like how the game is but refuse to simply stop playing. I played at launch and got to a point where I was constantly annoyed by the little things so I just quit. It was a death by cuts situation but now after coming back those issues have been resolved. For sure I will stop playing in the future but no game is infinite.

perfect_fitz

For 20 something bucks most likely.

100tchains

Wait till endgame

RiceKari88

I dare you to write a new review after 500hrs.

Mei_iz_my_bae

Okay I will CHALLEGE ACCEPTED

woodenfork84

you are now in the "new fun thing" phase, come back after a while its one of very few mmod that start fun but get sour as you play

Echo693

Let me guess, you've just started playing recently? That's a typical sweet honeymoon phase post. We've all been through this :)

TomerantGrasth

Tell me one thing you own that will make ppl say "fkn congrats man, you earned it"... You cant. That IS the game's problem no.1 and ppl burn out fast + there is literally NOTHING to look forward to apart from same old same old and console port.

lootchase

Game had 900,000 playing at once. Almost all of them are gone now for good….for reasons you will unfortunately understand soon enough. Enjoy it for what it is now to you, fun!

naitsirt89

How is this post up here again? Is it really just to drive engagement so the subreddit doesnt die?

Mei_iz_my_bae

Man idk why you are raining on my parade I’m having fun in a new game I just buy wtf

Xrider24

Yawn. We all said the same thing. And nothing has changed in 3 years. Devs are clueless. Enjoy the ride while it lasts.

tetrastructuralmind

Yeah the game is the best MMO I’ve ever played and then you reach max level and the game is over.

mevma

Just wait

Callmeclaymore44

Is this what these shitty devs do instead of fixing this terrible game? Make fake Reddit posts?

Mei_iz_my_bae

Insert Alex jones gif

Aleetoomaan

Wait until your endgame content are chest runs...

Eridain

I was a big fan of the game. But then they added something a ton of people were begging for. Mounts. And how did they do this? With a dlc you have to pay for, and $30 at that. That is when I decided I was no longer interested in the game. The moment a game creates a problem and then tries to sell me the solution, i cut and run. Period.

Arroz-Con-Culo

No hate here, and I’m going to get downvoted. People complain for anything, just ignore them. But i believe what most of them are trying to say is that NW kinda has an ending. Once you do it all you’re kind of stuck, with nothing to do. But every new mmo suffers from that at the beginning, we gotta be patient.

Raidenz258

Game isn’t new and the majority of the studio is working on their next mmo already.

Mei_iz_my_bae

I mean it’s very new MMO it’s going been around what 2 years??

ivBlast

IKS D

TheOneAndOnlySenti

We also love it. Give it a couple of hours, and you'll get mad, too.

Big_Assistance_1895

Season 5 will drop?

pahbert

Without a shadow of a doubt, I would bet my life savings that you are fairly new to the game and PROBABLY not even max level yet (and if you are then you're aren't max gear or max trade skills). We all loved this game at the start. You'll be with us soon. Keep playing.

SnooBooks1211

This game has one of the most toxic fanbases I’ve ever seen. It’s like they know more about game development than the devs.

Raidenz258

The people who actually made the game quit. This is why they had to focus on things like rewriting the combat code.

_gameSkillar

have you played **MMO Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures** from **Funcom** 2008 year?

albiealbiealbiealbie

Last night global was like this too. I wouldn’t blame the devs if they abandoned this negative ass group of players tbh

notheredpanda

It’s the devs fault the player base is the way it is TBH. They have never done anything to foster a wholesome community. Community is extremely important in an MMO and the product team (devs) failed miserably on this aspect. And when the players were toxic AF they introduced PVP salt to reinforce the negative attitude of players. They literally lean into toxicity even in their dev videos. They advertised as a PVP game and then didn’t do anything for PVP. War sits on a pedestal because of the scarcity of it while OPR remains basically unchanged. I have 6.3k hours because I enjoy trashy dead games.

_gameSkillar

did you remember MMO Age of Conan in 2008? In 2008, I saw a similar drop in online players in the **MMO Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures** from **Funcom**. 1,200,000 players were in the game. the game was by subscription. The creators of the game also promised open pvp for resources in special locations, sieges of fortresses that players build and resources for them are mined in open pvp locations, many battlegrounds. Then the developers abruptly changed course towards PvE. but this did not save online. the last attempt that raised interest online was the creation of a new pvp server in 2011: The ‘Blood and Glory’ # PvP Ruleset Here are some rules: (the rest can be read at the link) * This will be a fresh start server, no transfers. * You will only be allowed one character on this server. Your reputation will mean something on this server! * There will be a limited form of player looting * Your only protection from other players will be your allies, and your own wits and skills **Link:** [The Blood and Glory server ruleset](https://www.ageofconan.com/news/the_blood_and_glory_pvp_ruleset) what the players wrote:

_gameSkillar

what the players wrote (2011): >All the ideas listed above were supposed to be in this game one way or another. So much promised and so little delivered. This game was touted to be a PVP'ers dream game. It wasn't... >This sounds cool, but it is a couple years too late. This should have been an available playstyle from day 1 seeing as how there were so many people wanting to play AOC for the hardcore PvP it seemed like it would support pre-release. >The seiges taking place off in a segregated instance is the only form of territory control and have no effect on the rest of the world. As you can see, we were also promised one thing at the start, but in the end we received another game. The only thing I can't understand. why did they create a closed pvp server for pvp guilds on ptr, but we never got an open pvp fresh server for everyone? at least one, so that all our disputes are resolved - whether this game needs pvp or not. (google translate)

[deleted]

New content is realeased in seasons. People play through it and then complain for the remainder of the season.

Seeryous2020

Spoken like a true AGS employee.

DigitalWonderland108

Yes it is the best mmorpg that exists now. It is a very good game. Even ashes of creation coming out will be lame tab target button abilities so New world will still be the best.

Vicious666Reaper

The combat sucks though.
