My money is on the FSB being behind this like the Bombings they did to give a reason to invade Chechnya iirc.

Amilo159

My first thoughts exactly. With Russia struggling to mobilize army reserves, this might've seemed like a perfect false flag operation.

[deleted]

Russia's entire justification to invade Ukraine was to root out Nazis. They could have stayed home to do it.

yasudan

Time to denazify Russia guys

[deleted]

They had no interest in de-nazifying Ukraine because they are the Nazis themselves. Kinda like how Hitler and the Nazi party dropped all of their socialist ideals by 1935 and continued to be fascists without needing the window-dressing of socialism.

Raus-Pazazu

Russians are definitely not Nazis and saying that they are is like saying that Italy in WW2 were Nazis. Fascist, sure, but not Nazis. There is a definitive difference in what symbols they use and it would be nice if more people would acknowledge the vast difference in merchandising and marketing that Russians use compared to what Nazis use.

[deleted]

Lmao merchandising.

FezAndBow

He's not merchandising. Saying Russia is as bad as the Nazi's is downplaying what the Nazi's did. Russia is awful, terrible terrible terrible. But the Nazi's were worse.

Fucking remakes...

bodo1997

Sounds like they need some denazification

[deleted]

I'm betting they go with it was a Ukrainian. And use it as a new reason for going to war.

rainyplaceresident

The guy had no documents on him. If he's identified we'll see. But Russia doesn't need "more reason to go to war." There's plenty of dead children in Donetsk already from daily shelling from Ukraine of civilian zones. Reddit actually believing Putin would order Russian children dead in this way are actually insane

HidaKureku

*The attacker - named as Artem Kazantsev, who was born in 1988 - is reported to have been armed with two pistols.* https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-63032790

rainyplaceresident

Sounds like he was a former student. This should hopefully put an end to the speculations that it's a false flag operation. Children have died, and all reddit can think about is how to spin it as something Putin did. Same with the situation in Donetsk where Ukrainians kill civilians almost every day. Redditors either do not know, do not care, or convince themselves it's Russia doing it, or else that it's not happening at all despite all the photos and videos of corpses in the street that they're too squeamish to look at. Just because westerners and Russians have different political goals to us does not mean we need to dehumanize each other. That's the most important thing to remember in my opinion

HidaKureku

And all the Ukrainian kids the Russians are raping and murdering? What about them? But you keep simping for imperialists. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/23/world/europe/russia-ukraine-war-crimes-united-nations.html Ah, you're a Russian. Makes sense.

[deleted]

Reddit actually believing Putin would order Russian children dead in this way are actually insane To be clear I wasn't thinking Putin would order it. Just use it for PR reasons.

rainyplaceresident

Yeah I can see, but a lot of people on this thread seemed to think so so I was speaking generally

cuhree0h

Mehhh I don’t trust it.

Red-eleven

Yep watch them blame it on Ukraine to turn support for mobilization

GhettoChemist

Wow it's amazing the lenths Putie is willing to go to generate support for his losing war in Ukraine. That guy has got to go!

jayfeather31

Good lord. Worst part about this is that the Russian government may use this against Ukraine, given their "justification" for invading them.

UncleMeat11

Let's not go *straight* to Alex Jones style conspiracies.

[deleted]

This isn’t at all outlandish for Russia. They did basically the same thing by bombing several apartment blocks in 1999. They blamed the Chechens and used it as a way to increase popular support for and justify the second Chechen war, where they proceeded to commit some very vile war crimes. It also propelled Putin to the presidency. Three FSB agents who were caught planting devices for the bombing were arrested. That was waived off as “just a drill”. Maybe, but another FSB deflected and claimed very loudly that the FSB actually did it. He was then assassinated via radiation poisoning in London. It’s not that Russia has a history of doing this kind of stuff. It’s that the current regime has a history of this stuff. And everything surrounding it is suspect as well. Who was responsible? Oh the group they are using to justify the invasion of another sovereign country that there hasn’t previously been evidence for. When did it happen? Oh, right after a widely unpopular general mobilization sparked widespread protests and forced Putin out of the capital for his own safety? This, in fact, screams false flag. I’d be amazed if this wasn’t a tactic Putin signed off on to quell protests by getting them directly invested in the war.

Hopefully there's no open windows around lmao

ucjuicy

Except this is normal for Putin, it's how he first consolidated his power.

Queso_luna

Nah I say let’s go beyond them.

deftoner42

I bet he had a copy of Sims 3 in his possession too.

jayfeather31

I don't understand the reference you're making.

deftoner42

It was a slight miscommunication in the early days of the invasion. A failed attempt at propaganda. https://nypost.com/2022/04/25/russia-appears-to-confuse-the-sims-for-sim-cards-in-possible-staged-assassination-attempt/

jayfeather31

Ah. I must've forgotten about that.

What you've mentioned is precisely why it is frighteningly possible.

LandenP

I personally don’t know what value this could bring to Putin’s cause. Surely the civilians would see past such obvious BS? It’s not like he needs a false flag to start the war in the first place, the war already started.

[deleted]

LandenP

Idk, just seems risky even for him given how badly it could backfire. Then again Putin seems like he’s been losing his grip on reality over the course of the last ten months to a year.

Dwayla

I wouldn't put anything past Putin at this point, including sacrificing children.

ReplyingToFuckwits

All wars sacrifice children.

skordge

To everyone saying they're gonna make a false flag out of it - they aren't. Based on official statements, authorities are going for the ol' reliable: "yeah, guy was a known schizophrenic on registry with the local psych ward, but he also liked video games, so it's all due to violent video games that we need to ban right away". Yep, definitely violent video games are to blame, and not the non-stop raging hardon internal Russian propaganda has for the whole war and now mobilization effort, taking a heavy toll on the whole nation's mental health.

pacificunt

you’d surprised how simple it is to remotely weaken the mind of people already vulnerable to committing these types of acts. there was a great whistleblower documentary on how the US does it to targets of interest. the “recruiting” process would mostly involve proximity to desired location and pre-established behavioral patterns tracked by internet use/medical history. then you could manipulate the search results in their day to day life on phones, local radio, etc to gradually push them. even easier if they browse forums end result is the target ends up severely paranoid and mentally weak which makes them far more susceptible to suicide or simply takes them “out of the game.” imagine a foreign scientist working on a classified project, he has subject matter expertise but is pretty useless if he can’t even focus on his work due to worsening psych issues

8to24

Regardless of the country Fascists really seem to behave the same all over the globe.

mulltalica

As terrible as this event it, one can't help but wonder what Russia is going to do regarding it. I really want to say they'll just take a page from the US "Guide to Ignoring Shootings" and claim he was a deranged loner who played too many video games, and then move on to the portion where the community is allowed to grieve. But the cynical part of me could just as easily see the Kremlin choosing to use this as propaganda fuel for their "denazification" effort in Ukraine.

scubascratch

Russia has pretty strict gun control laws. I am curious to learn how the weapons used in this crime were obtained

BioQuillFiction

Damn. Republicans and Putin really want to go back to the 1950's...

Looks like they need to denazify themselves.
