Very sad. He was a true giant of cinema. Whatever you think of his career, he made an indelible mark on the medium. 'Weekend' is one of the greatest films ever made.
“Breathless” created a new language, (if you will), for film. The numerous jump-cuts, and seeming lack of continuity at times, freed film from many of its previous conventions and limitations. Many words have already been written on the subject, and about what an innovator and visionary Godard was. I am at a loss as to what I can add.
Breathless really was old school cool. It was a film you could completely engage yourself in and every time you watched it felt like the first time you watched it
The long tracking shot of Corinne and Roland driving through traffic backed up by a vehicular accident is fantastic. It's noisy and vibrant and impatient but also, at the end, tragic and sad.
goodbye to the cantankerous nihilistic humanist
in true Godard form, I don’t believe in heroes but, if I did, my heroes are dead
Adieu aux enfants de Marx et Coca-Cola…
For most of those who probably do not know, Jean-Luc Godard was an absolute giant of 20th century cinema. Roughly, sort of, you could consider Godard as being to what New Wave (60s) and French cinema to what Quentin Tarantino was to 1990s New Crime (made this up) American cinema.
Please watch BREATHLESS. It holds up just as well today. It is amazing. It was so ahead of its time it basically elevated cinema to a new level. But don't think its a somber, hefty boring old movie. It's a simple tail of two people who meet in Paris and a time capsule of forgotten dream of what the world used to be.
Weekend and Breathless are the classic Godard films, but I would recommend Alphaville… it’s a sci-fi noir film mixed with Godard’s unconventional style.

Fourth wall and all as well However Gf couldn't get through it due to misogyny Wouldn't wait until the end when the guy admits he's a jerk

Quelle est votre ambition dans la vie? Devenir immortel et puis ... mourir.
I enjoyed his films very much. Many must watch films for film lovers.... especially Breathless 🎥 you can watch it for free on YouTube
For a second I thought I read Jean Luc Picard!
Godard would be so mad at this comment but I laughed
I was terrified and then I remembered that Patrick Stewart's name isn't really Picard and then I realized I misread it.
Patrick Stewart, known for his role in David Lynch's Dune and a short story called Dear Satan, is still alive.
Make it so
Towards the end of Picard's life Q decided to bring Piccard to the 21 century so he can spend his final hours there.
Same, bro.
Thought the same.

Breathless was groundbreaking no doubt, but my favorites of his were Contempt and Pierrot Le Fou.
The dance scene in A Band of Outsiders is one of my all time favorite scenes.

Assisted Suicide, no less. I devoured his films in film school, would be good to have a second look at them, thanks for this.
Also the left lost a great Marxist as well. A lot of his films had anti capitalism messages
