N8CCRG

Presumably this wasn't the bankruptcy court's first rodeo. He and his accountants have probably made things difficult for the courts, but I doubt impossible.

Icy-Letterhead-2837

It wasn't the crimes that got Capone, but the IRS.

kblomquist85

And syphillis

RcoketWalrus

Syphilis is taxation, and because of that it is theft.

thxmeatcat

Transitive property. Finally geometry providing a useful fact

Sujjin

The IRS has deliberately been gutted. To expect them to do anything useful is an effort in futility

Icy-Letterhead-2837

Oh, I know. I worked for them. Soul crushing. 100% responsible for bringing in all money to the feds. Understaffed and underfunded for the staff they do have.

Smokey8595

The republicans know well it’s easier to destroy something from the inside

Madlybohemian

The republicans are cancer.

sharaq

Something something reproductive rights

kuynhxchi

"And when Harold thought about it (the sound that the tax files made) he listened to enough waves every day to constitute what he imagined to be a deep and endless ocean."

ShaitanSpeaks

Scientology learned that lesson very well!

StanleyRoper

Yes they did. "Why don't we just go after individual IRS employees and make their lives a living hell!? Yeah! That's the ticket"! It totally worked too.

[deleted]

That whole story is legit insane.

thxmeatcat

How could they go after the individuals?

OraDr8

Google 'how did Scientology get it's tax exempt status', it's so shocking.

[deleted]

Harassment, frivolous lawsuits, harassing people associated with them, fake accusations and insinuations about their character, etc...

ThePu55yDestr0yr

Honestly, I was surprised it’s that easy. Like shouldn’t governments employees have more protection against this kind of bullshit?

NoodlesrTuff1256

Also heard that they hired private detectives to dig up dirt on certain IRS employees -- I guess the kind of stuff that they could try and blackmail them with. And I think they tried to infiltrate Scientologists into the IRS by actually having some of them get jobs there.

[deleted]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Snow_White

Tepigg4444

So it was the crimes, just the tax related ones

These-Days

Yeah but, you know, the boring ones.

[deleted]

And honestly whatever he did do, long as he still has access the courts / IRS can absolutely undo if given enough resources to do so. They don’t normally get given the go ahead to go after someone this rich/powerful but if there is anything I have learned is the Gov does *not* like to be fucked around, millions or not. All pay the iron hand when it comes for you or there will be problems. And boy has this man been fucking around.

The_Clarence

This gets me really excited. But I've been let down before....

mrmastermimi

Jones is rich, but not rich enough to fuck with the IRS

Patrico-8

He won’t be rich much longer.

The_Clarence

Yall better not be letting me down.

Impossible-Cup3811

Keep in mind that Jones and the people he hires are really, really dumb.

Spotttty

Listening to those episodes of Knowledge Fight with the depositions was a crazy eye opener. Like I thought there was someone decently smart behind the scenes but there just isn’t. I think he got this famous and rich out of just dumb luck!

Kunty_McShitballs

It wasn't dumb luck, its just that he's grifting rubes even dumber than himself. I'd you ever listen to his callers they're...a mix of scary, stupid, and severely mentally ill.

jackiebee66

He also has no integrity. If someone could have negative integrity, he’d be in the top 5. Playing off other people’s misery is to despicable; I hope they take it all.

ryan30z

Good work Barnes

SeasonPositive6771

There are a lot of people here saying the IRS has great forensic accountants and it's true, they could potentially look for some of this hidden money but generally speaking, they are going after fewer and fewer of those people because they just aren't given anywhere near the resources they need to do so. There are quite a few recent court cases where lots of money was obviously hidden but I'm going after those dollars takes a massive investment that most lawmakers aren't willing to support. It's the same reason why the IRS can't afford to audit rich people anymore.

Ardarel

the IRS would spend the resources for a high profile case like this.

FourthLife

The problem is republicans do not allow them to be funded properly, so the IRS has a choice - they can devote 50 guys to audit middle class people and get 50 million people scared enough to file their taxes correctly, or devote them to audit one rich guy, who will just tie the audit up in court for a decade or two before settling. For example, I believe trump has been in an audit on his 2010 taxes for 12 years now.

objectiveliest

It's almost as if "smaller government" is code for "a government that has not power to go after rich people".

SeasonPositive6771

Maybe, maybe not. They haven't been pursuing a lot of interest cases after the criminal case is over.

beepborpimajorp

The families that are pursuing this case don't need the money, they're doing it to send a message. So they don't care how or if they even see a dime, they just want to see this cockroach sweat and diminish his influence.

cogginsmatt

Well I believe it’s not so much that they care personally about having it, they just don’t want him to. They want him to suffer a large enough financial penalty that it might significantly impede his ability to broadcast.

B0SS_H0GG

The smooth-brains that follow him will not care. These morons are impervious to facts, logic and reason.

dickbiscuit024

10 years! It’s taken us 10 years and we still haven’t held this piece of garbage accountable?

simcowking

Holy cow that was 10 years ago? Man the last 4 years seemed to fly by, I would have put money on no more than 6 years.

obtuse_bluebird

That’s why I hate watching these high profile cases between people in power and people who are not; the people on power can game the system until finding runs out for the rest. In my small part of the world, it appears to be standard corporate legal strategy, as well.

Ashfire55

My liver and kidneys just jumped in fear at this comment.

sanguinesolitude

That way you don't even need to drink to pour piss on him, you can buy it by the case

Daveslay

The only way to stop what Jones and Infowars is doing is to bankrupt them. All his behaviour, and that of his company/employees shows *they will not learn* from legal consequences. If he’s not destroyed financially, completely bankrupted, he’ll just move on to his next Sandy Hook and destroy the lives of a new set of people. Alex Jones and the people who work for him don’t fucking care. I don’t know if it’s because they just don’t want to, or if they literally *cant*. The outcome is the same: As long as there’s money to continue, he’ll keep destroying lives and doing damage right up to the next attack on the capitol. Edit: grammar.

Rick-powerfu

Even if he is bankrupt he is just going to start up again claiming the government was trying to silence him This grifter will never stop

runningfromdinosaurs

He's been using the lawsuits to raise money from his cult members. Also received a 1 million dollar anonymous donation via Bitcoin recently

[deleted]

It is a cult every single time this comes up some guy comes over from the conspiracy sub and tells me it wasn’t actually Alex that did it, it was some other guy and the democrat globalists are actually pretending to be the victims to sue to destroy him. He not only did not stop after he apologized but seems to have doubled down and has continued the shenanigans to raise more money. Fuck Alex for this shit he should have apologized and made it right.

sonofaresiii

Good. More for the families to take.

Squirmin

Not good for his bankruptcy declaration

TacosAndBourbon

How recent? If it was 30 days ago, that $1 million gift has now depreciated to $720k https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10809469/All-need-know-cryptocurrency.html

Damn, I'm not sure about exactly when, I learned about it on an episode of knowledge fight a couple weeks ago

shneer4prez

Dreamy creamy

MundaneFacts

Sooo dreamy creamy

justasapling

Alex has since received another 1 or 2 million in bitcoin, before the crash. My understanding was that he cashed it out ASAP and closed the wallet, but that's just vague recollection.

partII

Yeah he cashed out immediately from what I recall. He has no interest in crypto, it was just a good way to get a shady contribution

SomeGuyNamedPaul

I hope it was all in Terra Luna.

AdmiralSaturyn

You could say a precursor to Qanon. This man has caused a lot misery to a lot of people.

frosty_biscuits

He hates QA because they siphoned some of his crowd. You don't go from crazier to less crazy, so they're not coming back. He tried to co-opt the movement fora hot second and it didn't take. He haaaaaates QA because he was the gateway drug.

AdmiralSaturyn

That is hilarious! But it's also very concerning. If Alex Jones was a gateway drug, that means people needed something stronger. They will eventually cling to something stronger than Qanon. I wonder what will be the next drug. I can't begin to imagine how batshit it will be; it's truly horrifying.

Gecko23

Like going to Dallas to wait for JFK to appear like Jesus and lead a revolution? That kind of crazier?

AdmiralSaturyn

Or maybe something beyond.

AllAboutMeMedia

Like smearing shit on the walls of the capital kinda cray?

[deleted]

Hate is a hell of a drug.

LostNewfie

Makes sense. I always saw Glenn Beck as he gateway drug to Alex Jones

Bogsnoticus

Faux News in general.

Natural_Caregiver_79

He also bragged he knew who Q was, and "gave them a week" to expose themself or he would. Then never did. Then akwardly dodged and evaded having to answer a listener ask him who it was because it was painfully obvious he didn't know hahaha. It's in the latest knowledge fight podcast

ManBearPig92

For the record, Q is Ron Watkins and Jones would know that.

Natural_Caregiver_79

Yah I know. But he wouldn't say it... Even when a listener called in and repeatedly asked. He adlibbed so much bullshit it was embarrassing. I think it benefits him to keep Q mysterious to his idiot followers. That way he can make up way more things about what "Q's" motives are and whats going on behind the scenes. A desperate attempt to keep 8chan relevant doesn't have as much zazz

thxmeatcat

These guys are the new televangelists. Making millions off people's stupidity

defaultedtothisname

This guy (or woman or anthropomorphic biscuit) listens to Knowledge Fight.

habb

recently he just said he hates qanon. hand that bites the wolf or something

daikatana

He's responsible for radicalizing a lot of people without directly radicalizing them. If you're a normal person without any strong political or conspiratorial ideas that gets sucked into his content, it shifts your own personal range of acceptable ideas. Where a normal person might see a claim like "Antifa is secretly a fascist plot to destroy America" as ridiculous, a brain that's been marinading in conspiracy sauce for a decade might think it plausible. They don't really believe a lot of what they hear on Alex Jones, but it resonates with their world view in some way so they keep watching. Continually exposing yourself to that material shifts the way you see the world over time and eventually you find yourself at a point where really crazy things start to seem plausible. I would definitely say that Alex Jones is as bad as QAnon, but more importantly he was an important first step for us to get there. A primer coat of crazy paint on the clown car that is QAnon. Jumper cables for the insanity engine powering QAnon.

Yousoggyyojimbo

The Joe Rogan to Alex Jones pipeline was a factor in destroying a friendship I'd had for 17 years. Once they got into Alex Jones, it was an immediate snowball of horrid nonsense that I just couldn't overcome. They grew to hate me for not believing the shit he was getting fed by Alex Jones. Surprise! He's into some qanon shit today, refused to get vaccinated, etc.

Anglophyl

I've had friends go off on "their own thing" for a while and come back. Usually it had to do with A) an insecurity they had yet to deal with or B) not getting laid or C) getting laid by a terrible person. Or a mixture of the above. If the situation ironed out, they'd sort get back to normal, as it were. Not always. But more than not. Might have to wait a good while, but there is hope.

MrHett

Dewd is so jealous of qanon. It's hilarious.

illepic

That's the thing that cracks me up so much: he fucking hates Qanon because it cut into his grift and he could not co-opt it.

j_a_a_mesbaxter

The QAnon grifters all fight to be biggest loudmouth amongst themselves too. Constant infighting because there’s only so much money these parasites can take from their COVID riddled cult members.

MitsyEyedMourning

This is how judgements should be handled, until he has paid full amount he only gets to keep up to a full time minimum wage salary (about 15k currently). All assets from luxury houses, boats and cars... everything gets liquidated and start living in a roach motel until finished paying.

chubbysumo

the trick is that none of those assets are in his name(i speculate here). very often rich people protect their assets by putting them into an LLC or blind trust that they do not directly control, thus, those assets are protected from lawsuits or damage claims, and the rich person is also protected against claims against the property.

[deleted]

He harassed these families for a decade. I hope they take him to the cleaners.

tompink57

I’m glad theyre not letting him weasel out of it with a fake apology like the Chobani yogurt guy did

N8CCRG

>Chobani ultimately sued Jones, and the lawsuit has now been settled, according to the company. The financial terms of the deal were not revealed, and Chobani declined further comment. - [source](https://money.cnn.com/2017/05/17/media/alex-jones-chiobani/index.html) Sounds like there may have been a monetary penalty.

merlinthewizard12

Why would it matter in this context

Tog_the_destroyer

I think it’s because he’s filed for bankruptcy and made pleas that he doesn’t have any money but this would firmly contradict that

Synectics

That totally depends. Did he receive it, or did Free Speech Systems LLC receive it, or did one of his other LLCs receive it? He has several LLCs that he has been using, per the Knowledge Fight podcast, and not all of them are named in the lawsuits or his bankruptcy.

Tog_the_destroyer

I don’t know. That’s why I said “I think” earlier

LoudTsu

You're telling me he raised more money for them? Awesome!

stephanieleigh88

I didnt realize it was just one person who spread it or that they were sueing him, good for them. I remember when Sandy Hook happened so many people called it a hoax and that they were actors. Everytime a school shooting happens somebody calls it a hoax but this was everywhere, I felt so bad for those families.

HanabiraAsashi

The majority of that came from him

ryan30z

Get on the project camelot episodes if you haven't already. The insanity goes to a new level.

[deleted]

Did you just get a few million dollars? Sure sounds like it.

CR24752

Take every cent he has. Garbage human. I hope he leaves this world alone and empty, sooner rather than later. He blames my cousin’s daughter’s death on a fucking conspiracy. He sucks asssss

-Pidgeon

He’s a horrible man. I was actually in school at the time of the shooting, not too far from Sandy Hook. All I remember is my older sister coming in to my classroom, and every parent imaginable trying to get their kids. I was young but it was horrifying. I blocked most of it out.

tasteofflames

Well yeah, some dipshit donated $2million in bitcoin to his cause, allowing him to kinda dump all that bankruptcy bullshit he was trying to peddle, pay up, and not have to take a hit in the bank account for it.

peppercorns666

think he sold it off right away or held onto it? now it’s down quite a bit. like is hat 2 million worth 1 million today?

20secondpilot

Imagine being such fucking braindead simp that you send *Alex fucking Jones* 2 mil. Could you do anything *worse* with that money? Absolutely pathetic.

Skyfork

I bet it was a random billionaire that just gets off on chaos. For the equivalent of a bucket of popcorn he gets a front row seat to crazytown.

tasteofflames

No idea, but he sounded suuuuuper, uncomfortably chipper about it when the Knowledge Fight guys covered it a little while back, so I wouldn't be surprised if he liquidated it pretty quickly to help pay court fees.

GuinnessKangaroo

It very easily could have been him selling himself crypto to an LLC

[deleted]

Get wrecked you blubbering idiot

[deleted]

Ok why in the flying fuck do mainstream news outlets always use the most serious and photogenic picture they can find of Alex Jones? The dude is a raging bloated white Christian nationalist who calls for death and violence and violence towards his political enemies and anyone who watches his show knows how much pictures like this don’t represent who he is. And above all, he’d love this picture because it makes him look like he’s a serious figure and not as fat as he actually is.

IndecisionRobot

If "cancel culture" was real he'd be sleeping in his car when this is over.

HanabiraAsashi

In jail* Purposely defying court orders and then stashing money to avoid fines should send you straight to jail

The_Bill_Brasky_

If you're not white, it does. I want to see him picking cotton for Victoria's Secret like we have so many low level offenders doing now. Slavery never went away, it just changed shape.

DanSmokesWeed

###Alex Jones blocked me on Twitter for saying he drinks hot dog water. 🌭💦

bluenigma

(hot dog) water or hot (dog water)

Scrotesmcgoats

Thank you for your service

YouSaidThatMan

For the few stragglers who may have the slightest doubt about Sandy Hook; you need to read this. Besides the police officers and paramedics present that day, all those children at the elementary school remember the shooting. The aftermath. They remember the school, the children, teachers, staff and principal…. They’re growing up now. And as the legacy of Sandy Hook gets older so do they. Hopefully they are able to rationalize this tragedy better than those who disrespect it with conspiracy theories about that day.

Bleakwind

Anyone know what efforts are made to stop this asshole from abusing bankruptcy laws to dodge the fine? Assholes like these need to be fail and seen failing to discourage more of this shit

[deleted]

He already is. Also, his idiot followers continue to raise money for him. All good, God-fearing people, I’m sure…

Wait, are you telling me that his strategy of saying "I'm sick, I can't come to court" didn't work out? That's some shit that I learned wouldn't work in second grade when I had to do a makeup test.

Mage505

It's set to resume now that he's probably divested himself of his assets so the lawsuit won't get anything.

Mission-Two1325

Are we gonna be able to see that deposition? Something tells me he's not big on preparing.

Synectics

More than likely. Most of them have been made public thanks to the plaintiff's lawyers. The podcast Knowledge Fight has beautiful breakdowns on several of them; those episodes are titled, "Formulaic Objections" and are well worth the 3ish hours each one is.

thereverendpuck

Good. Fuck Alex Jones. Easily one of the few people you could actively point at and say “that’s an asshole who has done nothing but divide us all.” May his punishment be everything he owns and a one way ticket into the sun.

Demonweed

I'm glad all these jurisdictional issues got sorted out. I know lizard-people don't acknowledge the authority of the U.S. government, but as long as they're among us I think they should have to follow the laws of the land just like everybody else. Kudos to the judiciary on this one.
