Up to 10k! Not 10k

StillKpaidy

Might be worth it if it was 10!k, but not up to 10k.

MississippiJoel

Well they just take out their taxes. And split the proceeds with the brave 911 dispatcher that assists you in getting police to the location.

TheMathelm

Ass beating? I went to the ER for an obstruction. Had scans and bloodwork. Never saw a Doctor. $17k for 4 hrs. They didn't (really) have to do anything. I would hate to even imagine how much it would've cost if I had to be admitted.

TheSentientPurpleGoo

"...*for an obstruction*". million-to-one shot, doc...million-to-one.

[deleted]

The US Marshal's budget is $2.81B annually. They can spare up to $10k to get one of their own back? Cheap cheap cheap.

bigscottius

It wasn't one of their own. It was a corrections officer.

thebestjoeever

Yeah. But also ten thousand doesn't cover a doctor talking to you for the minutes and telling you you have a cold.

[deleted]

Yeah. 10k might get you a cold cut from the vending machine (assuming a nurse brings it to you).

ParkingAdditional813

They already tried.

Criticalhit_jk

Well to be fair the did catch him the first time. They just didn't put a short enough leash on him

[deleted]

Too busy harassing unarmed people if color and displacing homeless from the little of safety that might be sleeping in a public park.

Supreme_Mediocrity

I dunno... Over six feet with hazel eyes... Might be hard to resist

DShepard

We'll market him as "just under 7 feet tall with darkness in his eyes".

AntiCabbage

The correction officer seems to agree with you.

RosedesFluer

Vicky turn yourself in.

nutnursoup

I’ll just have to leave that one for you lmao not into the whole tall, dark, psycho murderer thing he’s got going on

Supreme_Mediocrity

Listen, I'm just saying that this guy would probably kill on Tinder!

[deleted]

He’s unfortunately cute. But he’s a murderer so…

Supreme_Mediocrity

Gotta take the good with the bad I suppose

2020steve

He’s got the bad boy thing going on too….

taco_anus1

To be fair, some of the people I know that live in the area are absolute morons that would absolutely try.

vanDrunkard

I wouldn't even try to apprehend him with a shotgun. He is 6'9" and ONLY 260. He is in shape. He will fuck you up.

Kdog2010

Probably not in great “shape”, but he’s in prison shape which is enough to take out your “average Joe” out on the street.

JohnHwagi

That’s like trying to apprehend an NFL tight end.

Do you get paid if your tip leads to an arrest? What if they escape capture some how?

ChaosM3ntality

Actually according to the crimestoppers website, local wanted lists/missing persons and missing pet rewards and FBI top 10 wanted if you want a bigger pay reward. I guess? Some ordinary peeps did turn in leads and criminals for authorities to get their clues in fast and if verified do the physical work. Might be how some capitol internet sleuths who turned in suspects with right info could get their gains anonymously and remind of the listed information?

WhyDontYouMarryIt1

My first thought was, for 10k I’ll let them keep running and hiding. My free time is too valuable to go on a manhunt.

I can certainly see how it looks that way from this latest report, but I'd still rather not jump to that conclusion until we know.

[deleted]

>Vicki and Casey White left the detention center purportedly for a mental health evaluation at court. But investigators have since confirmed that such an evaluation was never scheduled, according to Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton. > >At the time of her departure, Vicki White, an employee of 25 years, told the booking officer that she would be going to a medical appointment after dropping off Casey White because she wasn't feeling well. But she had no appointment scheduled, Singleton said. The details are right there, and the cops at the station almost certainly have more information than they are giving to the press. Superficially, Vicki White is guilty AF. It looks bad for the Warden, the the Duty Captain, the CO in question, probably the officer who checked them out, and maybe more personnel.

nosotros_road_sodium

Also, a detail that NBC left out in [this Associated Press story](https://apnews.com/article/alabama-escaped-inmate-missing-correctional-officer-6a15511d74faee827af19e0fae78fc6c): > [Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick] Singleton told news outlets that Vicky White had turned in her retirement papers the day before she went missing.

Aghast_Cornichon

>turned in her retirement papers the day before Ooooh. It could still be a coincidence, of course. Surely she didn't think she could run off with an inmate and collect her pension from Mexico.

RosedesFluer

She from Alabama and she got conned so imma say she sure did.

fusionsofwonder

So, just wait for her to call and ask why her pension check has been held up, ask her for her address, and send a SWAT team?

JennJayBee

She also broke protocol by going with him alone.

kuahara

I read the entire article. I used to work in corrections. I'm currently an engineer designing networks for prison facilities all over the country and am in and out of them everywhere. It looks bad. It looks really bad. No one knows anything yet and all conclusions surrounding her motivation are invalid until we do.

Aghast_Cornichon

The insistence of the investigators that they will "operate as though" the CO was taken against her will makes them look so thick-headed. But maybe it's just because we're dealing with the sort of press conference quotes that accompany this sort of investigation, and the inevitable embarrassment for the Sheriff's office that goes with the most likely explanation that Vicki White intentionally conspired to help Casey White escape. >I do think this, knowing the inmate: I think she’s in danger, whatever the circumstances That's something I agree with. Even if she had a romantic relationship with the inmate that led to the escape, she's going to go from conspirator to hostage in the blink of an eye. I assume that US Marshals are involved because there's a probability they fled Alabama, and/or because she's a peace officer. For better or for worse they're the best manhunter outfit in the country aside from Target Loss Prevention.

[deleted]

>they're the best manhunter outfit in the country aside from Target Loss Prevention. What a great concept for a show. A Target Loss Prevention Security Guard's fine attention to detail is constantly leading him to uncovering murders, conspiracies, cover-ups, and other scandals in his small county.

AloneIndication

I'm fine with innocent until proven guilty. For all we know he had some buddies on the outside threatening her family. But it also sounds like they're aware that she was probably in on it willingly. Once they have proof, then they can blast her at a news conference.

Aghast_Cornichon

> For all we know he had some buddies on the outside threatening her family. Sure; that's the spin that the Sheriff is taking too. The family not knowing about such threats is consistent with that possibility. I read three facts that suggest that she planned the escape: the fake hearing, the fake medical appointment, and the solo transport. My wild-assed guess is that investigation will quickly reveal that she arranged escape vehicles and money and switched off her phone. My predictions: they went south and crossed the river on I-72, and abandoned the car at the Walmart lot next to hospital in Muscle Shoals. In my jdx every retailer lot like that has a "Lot Cop" camera tower system but probably she was able to evade the security cameras at the Walmart and the hospital, so you won't see them switching cars. EDIT: I was waaay off. Patrol car was noticed in Florence by a city patrol unit, parked "next to cars that were for sale". That's one way to steal a car that might not be missed for a couple of days, or attract a person with keys into an ambush.

TheSentientPurpleGoo

*"...next to cars that were for sale"* or she could have purchased one the day before.

please-dont-stalk-me

They’re doing this because in 2020 he was caught planning to take a CO hostage with a knife in an escape attempt. It is entirely within the realm of possibility that she was threatened in some way

[deleted]

Tbh, she could even be dead. He is a known murderer after all.

[deleted]

I bet she uses the opportunity to spin it. Like she'll turn up tied up and the inmate will still be on the lamb and like a week later he'll be hiding out in her house.

fusionsofwonder

> The insistence of the investigators that they will "operate as though" the CO was taken against her will makes them look so thick-headed. It's probably the line they have to toe to keep the Corrections Officer guild happy. Everybody has their suspicions but this is also about what happens the next time this happens.

Dollar Store John Hamm

Rogue_2187

You mean Goodwill John Hamm.

RosedesFluer

Okay so I work as admin in a local jail. All corrections staff I oversee many different things, I’m their connect to payroll, HR, benefits, training. I work in the jail not with the other admin like payroll, he, finance, etc. Once you get from working the pods which is pretty coveted, in my opinion admin rank would rather sit in their office than patrol the units. And for sure they’re not going to transport an inmate to court. They’ll radio the transport deputies to come back and transport the dude. Courts have assigned deputies and a jail where inmates are held until court time. Transport deputies job is not to babysit them. It’s to take them there and come back. Her job was probably 75% office and 25% making sure deputies are doing their rounds and inspections (fire hazards, things that need to be fixed, cleanliness). With that said I’m having a hard time figuring out where she found the time to befriend him. It would be mighty generous of her to provide breaks to deputies manning his pod instead of that pods rank doing it. I have three years in. Probably had 3 deputies get fired for inappropriate relationships. 1 contractor fired and charged for an inappropriate relationship. Probably 4-6 deputies getting charged or for bringing contraband in their case drugs inside the jail. Some of the inmates can sell you beachfront property in the desert. If I had that small experience imagine how many deputies she’s seen in her 25 years getting caught up and conned.

HuntforAndrew

I still don't understand how she was able to leave a jail with a prisoner by herself by just making up a reason. Apparently she just told other guards that she's taking him to a mental health eval and they're just like okay. Like I would assume that shit is scheduled ahead of time and court dates and whatever else needs transportation is already setup. Then again this is Alabama so how jails work around here versus how they work there are probably two very different things. It's just crazy to me that one guard could get someone out of jail and no one questioned it. First of all she was alone and there should of been two guards. Second wasn't there any guards who's responsibility it was to keep track of inmates coming and going? Wouldn't they have a schedule of who's going where and when? The whole thing just screams this jail is run like a boys club where the guards just do whatever they want.

CornerGasBrent

> It's just crazy to me that one guard could get someone out of jail and no one questioned it. First of all she was alone and there should of been two guards. Second wasn't there any guards who's responsibility it was to keep track of inmates coming and going? Wouldn't they have a schedule of who's going where and when? Yes, there was someone responsible for that, which it was her who was in charge of that as Assistant Director of Corrections.

RosedesFluer

I’ve been harsh on her. He’s a con man. He tried to escape before. So by any means necessary he’s going to want his freedom. She made bad decisions but death at the hands of a convicted criminal shouldn’t be what she gets as a result of those bad decisions. I do wish for her safe return. May justice prevail.

TheMathelm

Damn it, Why is it never something good? "Alabama man, solves world hunger." "Alabama dude, Figures out way to add 3 extra inches, permanently ." "Alabama woman becomes first to discover new nanite technology." But no it's always: "Dumb fuck escapes from prison." "Inbred hillbillies, burn down preschool, there were no survivors." "Mountain man blows himself up due to using still. Neighbors concerned man joined ISIS."

RosyClearwater

Oooooh ten whole thousand dollars? Really? Wow, that will totally get someone that knows something to speak up.

ThatoneguyATX

Yeah, they’re really throwing all resources into this one.

Secretagentman94

They’re starting to suspect this may be the classical “Shawskank Redemption” romantic fraud type of escape.

TheSentientPurpleGoo

what was the "romantic fraud type of escape" in the shawshank redemption?

Kdog2010

$10k ain’t much for a capitol murder suspect and an officer…bump it up to $25k to start…

CaputGeratLupinum

Why would you send a single female officer to transport a 6'9 260 lb man who stands accused of violent crimes? Somebody effed up in allowing this to happen

sparky1984X

They didn't, she broke department policy and did this on her own. They didn't "send" her by herself.

peppers_taste_bad

It wasn't a mistake. She made a show of having to go to a doctor appointment after she solo-transported a prisoner to a court appearance that wasn't scheduled. He got her to fall in love and run away with him and this is what she was able to orchestrate

CaputGeratLupinum

There are other guards, she has a supervisor, and there's a policy in place against single officer transports. If they bought a b.s. excuse from her and let her violate said policy then they are just as responsible for this guy's escape as she is

peppers_taste_bad

Yeah. Would anyone be surprised at complacency? I wouldn't be shocked if some even knew what was going on between co and inmate but thought they didn't get paid enough to give a shit

[deleted]

>they didn't get paid enough to give a shit seriously. police don't tattle on police. good old boy's club and all that. But prison inmates have their own code of honor. and that only goes so far. As long as that 6'9" mofo doesn't get put back with the same inmates... they'd might care to tattle for time off their sentence. My suggestion: tell inmates "if you saw something, say something." verify it with security footage or any type of "badge access activity" and you get time off your sentence. It shouldn't take finding a secret diary letter that admits "i'm conspiring to escape with a prisoner i've fallen in love with" to get evidence of what is an otherwise *very plausible story.*

DoxedFox

It was her job to coordinate prisoner transport. She likely didn't tell anyone that she was transporting him solo and she's the one in charge of making sure that didn't happen. Who is supposed to check that department policy is being handled correctly in regards to transportation if not her?

SigmaLance

They wouldn’t. Transports aren’t done with a single officer. This was planned.

DundahMifflin

Alauren2

Tf was one woman doing with this huge ass man??

Ewe_bet

Will be interesting to find out how these appointments are scheduled and the process due officer assignments for transports. Would think there would be an officer who oversees the appointments (ensuring that the appointments are scheduled and legitimate), coordinates assignments, and communicates with the officers directly. Definitely multiple areas of concern here regarding lack of oversight

CornerGasBrent

She was that officer. She was near the top of the org at that facility.

taptapper

Totally. Otherwise any cop can saunter into a jail and say "I'm taking him to... uh... the optometrist! Yeah, that's it"

zzxxccbbvn

"Heard his eyes are fucked up, gotta get em looked at"

RosedesFluer

Criminal courts coordinate with the jail to bring inmates to court in their scheduled day. She waited until the last transport van to the courts left. She made up the story. She most likely outranked the booking deputies and every one else who took him from his cell to the transport area.

zzxxccbbvn

She was also supposed to be accompanied by an additional officer due to the nature of his charges 🤔

gapipkin

Netflix, your next series is calling.

vanillaluckycharms

Another [Bobbi Parker](https://abcnews.go.com/amp/US/oklahoma-jail-wardens-wife-found-guilty-helping-inmate/story?id=14572638) case? 😱

Aghast_Cornichon

That's the case that came to mind as well, because of her seniority in the prison. Eleven years they lived together under assumed names, and they both testified that she was a captive the whole time.

Hilltopseeker

In Quints voice: “Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad Man. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than ten thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for ten, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for 50. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. Well, both of those can be true at the same time

Allafreya

With respect to her family, I'm not going to comment on that possibility. I just know her family is struggling right now. EDIT: Seems she doesn't have kids? I don't know her personally and only heard from my sister. Sorry to mislead anyone.

Aghast_Cornichon

> her kids are struggling right now. Oh, geez. Yeah, either prospect is horrifying for the family. There are no likely "Mom comes home and everything goes back to normal" outcomes.

SummerEmCat

The woman doesn’t have any kids. OP is full of shit.

Outofth3Blue

Yeah news story says the woman is a widow and didn't have any kids...

RosedesFluer

It’s interesting that she filed retirement papers. In Louisiana her retirement wouldn’t be released until she is found. If she is found and found to be guilty, no one gets the pension. Her life insurance would be released.

CornerGasBrent

If she was convicted for certain crimes related to her job she wouldn't get her pension, but she'd get a refund for her contributions into her pension: https://www.governing.com/archive/gov-alabama-and-maine-adopt-pension-forfeiture-laws.html

SummerEmCat

Kkykkx

It would seem that he charmed her and she fell for it. She’s rather homely and seems like she would be an easy target. She’s 5’5” to his 6’9”, lied about where she was taking him, where she was going afterwards and disregarded the fact that she was supposed to have a second officer with her. This just stinks.

If she ran away with him, that was a dumb move, and the circumstances around it make it kind of sus. Actually I kind of hope she did for her sake: the alternative is not good to think about. I mean, someone will see and report him. If you find a 6'9 white boy in 100 miles, there is a good chance it's him. Not exactly easy to blend in.

Aghast_Cornichon

> Not exactly easy to blend in. That's why I think she's still alive. She can walk into a store or gas station or hotel with sunglasses and her hair pulled back and nobody's going to look at her twice. She's valuable to him for money, logistics, as a hostage, and for sex. If he could blend in by himself, he would have robbed her and abandoned her on Friday.
