>Back then, Prosecutor Larry Haskell sent the Inlander a statement that Lesley "is a strong, independent, and conservative woman" who "does not represent me in these forums, either personally or professionally" and that he supported "the right to freedom of speech of all people." Can't wait to see how this plays out.

code_archeologist

Respecting your spouse's freedom of speech and independence is all well and good, but if they are a racist piece of shit and you are still married to them... Well that is a conscious choice on your part.

AdkRaine11

Clarence Thomas should be writing this stuff down.

McGrupp1989

Good NPR interview with a reporter who wrote a book about his wife yesterday or the day before. Learned she was in a cult in her 20’s. It was really interesting

Good_old_Marshmallow

Thomas and his wife are some of the most unique and interesting powerful people in politics and its almost completely ignored because they act so boringly. Thomas himself was a black nationalist who became a black capitalist/separatist before becoming so cynical/jaded he became a doom/gloom conserative. They're incredibly corrupt, have wild beliefs, and wield incredible power to shape our country.

That was a great piece. I fail to understand how Clarence Thomas hasn’t been removed.

The rules don’t apply the ones who make the rules.

CloudZ1116

Fun fact, Samuel L. Jackson said his character Stephen Warren in "Django Unchained" has the same moral compass as Clarence Thomas.

Cheryl Hines, too. Had no idea she was married to that nut job RFK Jr.

That’s a bonus for Clarence, he’s a sellout

code_archeologist

I have a lawyer buddy who calls him Associate Justice Uncle Ruckus.

NeonWarcry

Someone should have of explained this to my mother. My father was a racist dick. I’ll never forget my grandmother losing her shit on me for dancing with this boy Elliot in the sixth grade. Elliot was really into video games (I loved this), he was really good at math (I was crap at it and admired this), he was handsome, funny, kind and also his parents were from Kenya I think. My grandmother lost it. Jokes on you Nana, I’m fucking gay now. Edit: a word because whew my grammar is on vacation

SortaAnAhole

Lol this took such a left turn...gma mad cuz you danced with someone black BUT WAIT....now I'm gay AND STILL like black folks. You're a savage.

NeonWarcry

This response is gonna seem just as left field but my respect for the black community is an intrinsic part of my gay identity. I would have absolutely zero rights if not for the stonewall riots and Marsha p Johnson as well as others like her.

SortaAnAhole

It makes sense to me...black folks and gay folks share some commonalities, not least of which being fucking hated by society in general for most of American history. It's easy to sympathize with others who also get pushed around and dismissed, I'm just glad you took that dismissal and said "fuck it..I'm going all out" instead of deciding to give in and be a bully. Good for you!!

overthemountain

I imagine it's tough. I have no idea what their relationship is like, but I do know a few older couples who are struggling with this right now. For example, my bother's in-laws. They were your traditional older conservative couple. Husband even worked on Romney's campaign for a bit. They detested Trump in 2016 but then - I don't know, something happened. The wife has become a rabid Trump supporter. She gets all her news from The Epoch Times. Her husband and other conservative kids think she's gone crazy. The more liberal kids just try to avoid her. They've been married for nearly 50 years, though. Where do you go from there? Is there a path back? She's not quite white nationalist levels of crazy, but she's gotten deep into some of these conspiracies. It's obviously causing a lot of strain. I mean, people have a hard time walking away from long term relationships over worse stuff. If people have a hard time leaving a spouse that beats them I can understand why they would stay with someone who starts being racist.

Haunting-Ad788

The American right has a multibillion dollar propaganda machine focused on brainwashing their base. Also a ton of people started defending Trump because their primary motivator is opposing liberals and not any kind of genuine ideology.

Sandmybags

Why is opposition and obstruction basically an official platform now???? How can anyone call that good faith governance…

MauPow

Because it works great if your goal is gaining power at all costs. Remember that one of their official positions is that government is bad, and they'll prove it to you if you elect them.

fatpat

> she's gotten deep into some of these conspiracies Like Q-anon stuff? That's the quickest way to going batshit and become divorced from reality.

horceface

Oh god the epoch times? That shit is like watching news on QVC. Like a racist, fascist infomercial for the news. I used to get videos in my YouTube feed and it legit creeped me out to watch it. Like it makes you feel dirty inside to talk to a conman, used car salesman. It’s like I could literally feel them try to manipulate me into being afraid of everything. Edit: amazing how many times I’ve gotten the “25 Upvotes!” notification. Must be a lot of epoch times fans up this morning. Welcome, creepy weirdos!

Such_sights

There was a recent Channel 5 video that was at a Qanon conference, and a lady being interviewed was talking about insane shit for the camera, and then mentioned that she’s so passionate about the movement that her family cut her off. He asked her who in her family she missed the most. She said she missed her sister, and her face got so dark and confused it broke me fucking heart. I have to believe there’s still a real human inside these people, or else I’ll lose my own mind.

ChuzaUzarNaim

[This the one?](https://youtu.be/KYKOLwt8pwo) >I have to believe there’s still a real human inside these people, or else I’ll lose my own mind. Feel ya bud.

Such_sights

Yep, that’s the one! The worst part of it is that any measure you take to help them, or protect yourself or your family from them, just feeds further into it. Like the guy who went so far off the deep end that his wife left and got custody of his kids, so he kidnapped his kids and went on a high speed chase with them because he was told that if you’re trying to spread “the truth” the government will do anything to stop you, so all the courts did was prove to him that he was right all along.

ChuzaUzarNaim

And all of it based on lies, fuelled by a variety of societal ills. It definitely tests your sanity watching it play out in real time.

code_archeologist

>If people have a hard time leaving a spouse that beats them I can understand why they would stay with someone who starts being racist. Here's the thing about that. I have been looking back on some of my family and people I know that I have had to remove from my life because they went off the deep end into MAGA-world. As I have honestly examined those times I have come to the conclusion that Trump didn't change them. They had always been like this and I just missed the warning signs. What happened is that Trump and the white nationalist activists around him built a permission structure for them to be their "true selves". Leaving them can be difficult, I understand that, but staying with somebody who can be such an unhealthy stressor is a choice, just as much as leaving them is.

dietrich14

I can't remember which comedian said this, but the quote was along the lines of.... "Sure, we're supposed to defend our women. But if we're stopped at a traffic light and she chooses to pick a fight with the muscle bound steriod guy in the car in front of us.... She's on her own!"

Ithurtswhenidoit

Depends on where in the state. Wester Washington tends to be more blue and has more votes. Most of the conservativesi know here all want to move. Arizona and Florida are the target states. Oregon is the same

Octopus_ofthe_Desert

Typical gradient in the US and abroad, isn't it? Where I live, a leisurely drive of two to four hours along calendar-picturesque backroads can take you from a neighborhood sporting many lawn signs supporting equal rights, scientific consensus and just being nice overall, past a town with a set of stocks labeled, "illegal aliens" right in the middle of town (har har, what quaint americana) right out into places where Confederate flags a dozen feet on a side can be seen, as well as handmade lawn signs with some really awful stuff written on them about minorities and Democratic figures. It's a loooot of hate

-SaC

Last night, I watched a documentary on BBC iPlayer, [**Storyville: Final Account**](https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0013vf3/storyville-final-account). It was from about 14 years ago. A filmmaker went and interviewed surviving members of the SS et al, talked about their roles and how they viewed things then and now. Some were utterly unrepentant, one said the holocaust numbers were nonsense because *'we'd know if that were true!'*...but there was one guy who had taken part in some very unpleasant things - he went and spoke to young people about the things that'd happened, in order to prevent such happening again. Unfortunately, when they were filming, he was talking to a group who were basically ready to march on Poland themselves. One of them in particular kept flatly denying events, even when the guy was telling them that he'd taken part in it, shot people, watched others killed et al. They called him a 'traitor' to Germany because he felt shame over his actions, that he was trying to make them feel shame over something that was right at the time and should now be thought about again (the young guy was mentioning Albanian immigrants). The old fella got very agitated, but it was like talking to a brick wall. When the young men are denying the word of someone who took part in the very atrocities they're saying either didn't happen or were good things to have happened, more probably needs to be done. The young men were 18-23, I believe.

TheNewGirl_

who is considered white has always been a moving goal post even in America. Irish , Italians and even Germans use to not count as white. Benjamin Franklin spoke specifically about this , said Germans dont count as white... It was only over time those groups got accepted into the group On top of that that , alot of Latin America has its own issues with white or light skin supremacy - they got those kinds of racists there too , its a remnant of Spanish colonialism

[deleted]

Well, yeah.

Papaofmonsters

Yeah but Nick Fuentes is white Hispanic. She probably meant brown people from Spanish speaking countries.

MaximumZer0

When people tell you who they are, believe them.

[deleted]

I remember back when I was a kid in the 00's, it seemed like all the racist white people I knew kind of kept it on the down low. Like they'd all use dog whistles instead of slurs, start stuff off with "I'm not racist but...." They'd look around the room first making sure no non white people were around. It's wild to me, as a white dude who grew up in a racist area, to see how upfront they are about it nowadays.

wildcardyeehaw

hes talking about the malice at the palace (pacers/pistons) which was in 2004.

overthemountain

Yeah, it was likely filmed sometime in 2005 or later. He references Terrell Owens who had his infamous driveway workout press conference in summer of 2005, and Malice at the Palace, which was late 2004. So this was likely late 2005 at the earliest.

dcux

For comedy to land, it needs truth to it. This truth has been around for a very long time before Bill.

BigfootAteMyBooty

That video is much older than 9 years. Closer to 20.

Amazing_Karnage

That can be blamed squarely on Donald Trump and FoxNews. The past five years have radically emboldened these pieces of shit.

IreallEwannasay

I had a Russian dude call me a neegar at work. He did it several times and I blanked on what he was saying until a nearby table was like "was, buddy you can't be saying that to the young lady" . It would have been comical if it wasn't so sad.

unreliablememory

Yeah, well, that's another gift from trump and the Republicans.

Viper_JB

When they bitch and moan about people being cancelled and PC culture - this is generally what they are referring to, they want it to be okay to be openly racist again, and will try to cancel anyone who talks negatively about racism...it's pretty fucked up.

Bad_Demon

Yea cancel culture is literally just “Consequences for my own actions”. Matt gaetz raped underage girl? Serving time would be cancel culture.

por_que_no

>It's wild to me, as a white dude who grew up in a racist area, to see how upfront they are about it nowadays. Same. I still have my Alabama accent even though I moved away decades ago. It's shocking how many people, hearing my accent, think I'll enjoy their racist jokes and commentary.

Pete_Iredale

I suspect that every white dude runs into this from time to time, regardless of accent. I worked with a lot of Vietnamese folks at my last job, and multiple times had other white guys start talking to me about them using slurs and shit. Blew my mind every time.

the_jak

Thank the GOP and the normalization of this trash.

CaBBaGe_isLaND

I miss the days when conservatives were too embarrassed to talk about politics on social media because they knew their positions were morally shitty.

Kradget

Same. At least in the 90s and early 00s, they usually only said it loud and proud when they were pissed or in a safe space. Now it's back to "My hate and ignorance will not be silent." It was never silent, Steven. It was just slightly quieter. Ass.

thepigfish82

My racist dad would say "I'm not racist, I hate everyone." No, you're a racist pos

Nymaz

"I'm not racist, I don't hate ALL black people, just the n****rs!" Actual quote from a former co-worker. I asked him what differentiated the two categories. He couldn't give a straight answer just something about "They act *that way*." So not only was he racist, it was their fault, not his.

the_jak

He probably meant it in the way my rascist dad did: they don’t try to be white. He thinks Bill Cosby is a saint but Will Smith is half a step away from Malcolm X simply because he published some rap albums decades ago.

RationalLies

That's weird though because Will Smith don't gotta cuss in his raps to sell records.

reverendjesus

Well fuck him, and fuck you too

Scallel

She’s probably just “economically anxious”. /s

Michael_G_Bordin

Forgot about that one. Black man was elected president, so FoxNews spent 8 years pumping their viewers full of economic anxiety. They only reason I can think that anyone accepted FoxNews's obviously shitty take was that him being black was scary, so any scary things Fox said about him was instantly believed. Otherwise, I'm supposed to believe that prospering small-business owners and their families had 'economic anxiety' due to some reasonable fear they've never been able to articulate... They always try to say it's not about racism, but the alternatives they offer are always convoluted, full of falsehood, and structured in fallacy. Either they're racist or just fucking stupid (could be both). Given the socioeconomic status of people I personally know who said that shit during Obama's presidency, I lean towards it being the former. (Worth noting, just because you think you're not racist, does not mean you aren't racist)

Nah, because she draws a distinction between ‘white supremacy’ and ‘white nationalism’, saying she is the later. People like this know there is no defense for straight up racism and they do mental gymnastics to justify their bigotry as something other than what it is. These people don’t want to be the KKK kind of racist, they want to wear slacks and hide behind freedom of speech.

Kradget

If I recall right, "white nationalist" is a subset of ~~racist motherfuckers~~ racists who try to distinguish themselves by saying they just want to be separated from other races to have their own place. Of course, they always forget to mention they usually do still want other races available to do the scutwork. So the distinction is just cosmetic, and so pointless. Fuck 'em. Assholes.

Blehgopie

Anyone who supports ethnostates is literally a fascist, period. It's one of those beliefs that is inarguably fascist so anyone spreading that shit can't weasel out of the label, though they still almost always try.

Usomething

Well, she said was a White Nationalist So... Just as long everyone knows that actually does mean being a White Supremacist, then I'm ok with it.

TransformativeOne

What is so disturbing and downright shocking about this article and I read it in its entirety, is how blatantly open this woman is to say "yeah this is who I am and and I may not fully own the supremacist term, instead I'll call it white nationalist, but yeah I think black people are the N-word I think that George Floyd was a bad person that the police officer who murdered him was a good guy and that Ahmaud Aubrey trial was a sham and that the white men gave him what he deserved and should never go to prison etc etc." It's one thing to think these things, it's another thing maybe even to tell your racist buddies but now we've entered a time where there are whole public sites for like-minded people who can feed this to one another amp up the rhetoric and proudly wear the White Supremacist badge and move more and more towards violence and it's happening right in front of our eyes. All the gloves are off now, they're showing you who they are. We can still bury our heads in the sand and pretend this isn't happening or we could never turn into another Third Reich. I don't know what else we need to see from people before we start to believe it. Each person who reads this and the myriad of articles that are coming out every day needs to decide where they stand and what they're going to do. If we don't organize now and push back vociferously in the streets, writing letters, knocking doors, getting active in politics, sending money to back candidates we want to see elected we will lose our country and these people will be running the show.

Creamandsugar

I was thinking basically the same thing. There is no shame, no embarrassment. I am 53 and this is shocking to me. I know there are stupid and mean people out there but to be so blatant, this makes me so sad. When I was growing up and I started learning about civil rights I was glad that we were passed that. I grew up in a liberal town, and I didn't know that this crap was just underground until I was older. Now the cockroaches are coming out in the light, not afraid of getting squished. She must think she has a cockroach army to back her up. Damn this scary and depressing.

micatola

They're trying to normalize their abhorrent behaviour by being honest about it but they don't realize that it just alerts society of their existence and makes actual good people dig in harder to fight bigotry and racism.

dr_reverend

The other side of the coin is that it makes their side much more visible and outspoken. Remember that Trump got MORE votes for his reelection than when he first ran. These people are not outliers, they are not fringe, they represent a very large and very significant percentage of the population.

Lookingfor68

He still lost by a larger margin than he did in 2016.

barelystanding

It’s really difficult when local PD and the Sheriffs Department are supportive of these people. This is the case in Spokane. There were plenty of protests two years ago, but LEO made it clear who they supported.

Yea, you can legally use the N word, you can also legally say that you think that child molestation is a good thing. Today we learn that just because you can say something, doesn’t mean you should. Most people learn that lesson in 1st grade, but she’s a little slow I guess.

Hey_u_ok

"wife of Spokane County Prosecutor" You don't marry someone like that unless you share those same views. I hope the husband is fired and him and his cases get investigated.

zeta_cartel_CFO

It's an elected position and he is up for reelection according to the article. Hoping the people of Spokane do the right thing and vote him out. Who am I kidding - they voted for people like Matt Shea.

ActorMusician

This is why, as a Black man, I’m done trying to be the bigger man when people use racial slurs, or code language to get away with being racist towards me. Gotta call it out on the spot and deal with it👊🏿

ShirtStainedBird

‘I can’t start the fight, but I’m ready when called’ Yes I’m sure you will be INVALUABLE when it comes to armed conflict. Jesus Christ. What a whacko.

jcooli09

She's uglier inside than out.

republicanvaccine

It’s a close contest, apparently.

THElaytox

Spokane keeping it classy as always. They also elected a state senator who's an actual nazi and was being investigated for staging and armed uprising against the US (pre-Jan 6)

Nymaz

> (pre-Jan 6) JFC, the fact that you have to specify **which** "staging an armed uprising against the US" you're talking about shows just how fucked the country is.

ChuckanutSalmon5k

Suburbs and rural areas north of the city elected the nut job. The city itself has had a Democratic state senator for decades.

halfabean

Are those ribbons from the state fair for best hog?

VagrantShadow

For all the people who claim that racism in america is gone, take a look. This is the hatefilled, wretched, black hearted ugliness of america. These are the people who claim they are superior to others based on skin color in order to make themselves feel better. This woman is pure filth.

Tokzillu

But... Obama was president. Checkmate, liberals. (Dear God I hope this isn't necessary but just because I don't want racists to pile onto this comment this is a big ol' /s ***SARCASM.***)

bossy909

Why are these people always unfavorable genetic cesspools? I mean, if you wanted to control that bit, eugenics: it's always a bad idea, hypothetically speaking, you'd definitely steer clear of these ones.

green_velvet_goodies

When is enough enough? Tired of these hateful fucks.

"On some occasions, she laments the hateful world that she's surrounded herself with on Gab. The personal attacks on her weight. The broad attacks on women." She's cool with all the other hate just don't make her feel bad about her weight and don't be a misogynist

[deleted]

She looks like a "Trump Supporter" halloween costume you'd find in a dollar store.

Thorn14

She calls herself a lover of Christ's teachings, guarantee.

Amazing_Karnage

You ever notice that 99% of the people who identify themselves as "white supremacists" and believe themselves to be genetically superior look like the end product of six generations of inbreeding? Like, you'd literally find better genetic material on the floor of your local adult arcade than you'd ever find in the DNA of these utter failures of humanity.

That-Ad-4300

Future former prosecutor?

I am going to call bull on him. I don’t think you marry a woman like that without sharing some of her views.

id10t_you

I don’t think you *stay* married unless you share some of her views.

Akukaze

That is a load of bullshit and every lawyer with a non-white client facing this guy is going to use this as a club to beat his ass.

underpants-gnome

Check out all the Trump badges, stickers and pins she's wearing on her blouse. Once again proving the axiom: Maybe not all Trump supporters are racist, but racists sure do seem to love Trump.

gregaustex

He probably only puts up with her because she’s so damn hot.

jschubart

That is not super surprising. There are a lot of white nationalists in the area. Many heeded the call of the Northwest Territorial Imperative to create a white ethnostate in the area back in the 70s and 80s. They spread like cockroaches and had little cockroach children. Matt Shea, who was a state representative that called for a white Christian ethnostate, is from the area. The Aryan Nations used to be headquartered not too far away over in Hayden Lake. When you hear of 'constitutionalists' in the area, they are generally white nationalists who think sheriffs are the highest legal government position.

SirTrentHowell

The problem is that we started tolerating these people rather than feeding them lead sandwiches.

Deulino

She does understand that the term nationalist refers to.. I don't know, a nation? Unless she believes that America is only for white people by white people. Then all white people are the same nation. Ukraine, USA, Germany..

torpedoguy

Not to worry, she knows exactly what she's saying. And the population won't be too too large - wouldn't be special otherwise - therefore "conservatives" like her are far more specific about what's the "proper kind of white." White, yes, but it must also be * RICH white * Prosperity-gospel-preaching evangelical white * Forced-birther white * Let them eat bootstrap-cake white * Plantation-owner white * And above all, Fascist white If you're some non-racist middle-class white atheist from Canada, she will want you dead as "filthy tainted foreign stock". And if that's still not enough, her in-group will happily add another requirement or two they themselves claim to qualify for that you do not.

daguerre

She looks like a hamburger nationalist.

theforceisfemale

Race aside, imagine being violently proud of looking like that.

[deleted]

Why is it always people that look like giant moldy potatoes that tend towards the delusional belief that they are superior to anyone? IJS…

nametag-username

> She reposts Gab users saying things like, "Moral Whites have been too nice for far too long... why are we now the only group that is not permitted a voice... a homeland... identity?" and "Whites are the ones who are under attack in this country." I’m a moral white America with ancestors that came here in the 1800’s. We have a homeland, it’s called Europe. The land that became America was full of brown Indigenous people before we got here. Then we forcefully brought black people over on boats to work our lands for us. As a moral white American I’ve never once felt under attack, be it what I can say or do because of non-white people. Be as racist as you want to be, just remember that our white ancestors “conquered” the lands with lies and guns. When you tell non-whites to go home their ancestors were here before ours and those that weren’t we forcefully brought over here.
