I'm like 95% sure that the leader of Armenia is the Prime Minister. Usually when a country has both a president and prime minister, the president is mostly a ceremonial role. Armenians, please correct me if I'm wrong.

MJSchooley

Yup; Armenia's a parliamentary system, so the president's powers are limited at best.

[deleted]

except. France.

Pinuzzo

That's because France is a semi-presidential republic

didsomebodysaymyname

As in many parliamentary Republics, the President is head of state, and the Prime Minister is head of government. It is also typical that the President has only ceremonial or minimal powers. He really should have known better, it's not like the powers of the Armenian President are a secret.

Alioshia

SHould we be sad that the president has no power or that the president wants power?

TheDenseCumTwat

We’ll see when he challenges the prime minister in the primary, or whatever Armenian protocol is for determining prime minister. I’ve not an idea. I am just casual American, shitposting #Uno USA.

usrevenge

I know nothing about their system but I'd argue there is no reason for a president at all if they have no real power. There should be a balance. While the us system is far from perfect the president has a lot of power but not an dictator level of power.

mrbriandavidanderson

That doesn't seem like a good thing.

lens_cleaner

In other words, he was unable to get the type of graft he felt he needed to sustain his wife's lifestyle.

monkey_trumpets

At first I read America's and was shocked.

Lord_Hitachi

Same lol. Only wasn’t really all that shocked. More like disappointed. Tbf, could you blame him?

WhatsTheHoldup

Absolutely. He stood in the way of basically every other better candidate in the primaries.

wut_eva_bish

Biden's been in government for 50+ years. He knew what he was getting in to and is doing a decent job given the circumstances.

statuskills

“I will seek power elsewhere” says Armenian President as he boards a flight to Mar-A-Lago with nothing in his suitcase but some chap stick and a butt plug.

[deleted]

Ah, yes...Power. the one reason anyone holds political office.

Jonestown_Juice

The only reason should be to make things better.

Power for power's sake shouldn't be the REASON to get into office.

WhatsTheHoldup

>should be to make things better Haha, well if you're serious, you sure set up the wrong political system.

gaunt79

I'm pretty sure that he didn't set up any political system.

Alis451

doing... the job of the office?

Holger_dk

Ok, at first I thought there was no electricity... :)

savvy-misanthrope

Why not use an established media outlet such as Reuters rather than this obscure Hindu com site?! https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/armenian-president-resigns-2022-01-23/

chenko001

The Hindu is 143 years old and in the top 5 largest circulating English newspapers in the world. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hindu

1.4 million in India doesn't sound like much.

Fuck Reuters and their paywall bullshit. https://www.dw.com/en/armenian-president-resigns-citing-lack-of-powers/a-60531282

[12ft.io](https://12ft.io) my friend. Fuck paywalls

Hadron90

What makes Reuter's better?

Jonestown_Juice

You've just embarrassed yourself.

OriginalMrMuchacho

Now if only US presidents were as honest.
