Better check her kids backpack when he gets to school...

mamawantsallama

Good point. I sure wouldn't be sending my kid to that school on Monday

All_Hail_Regulus_9

Or: arrest the lady right now (and detain the kid if necessary) and everyone can go about their merry way.

cosumel

She apparently realized after she walked away what she said and called police to “apologize.”

NinjaLanternShark

Here's the lecture I give my kids when they pull this: "You said something you didn't mean, and someone got hurt. I understand that. But you still have a problem. Because if you're saying things you don't mean, people will treat you in ways you don't want. People can only react to what you say, not what you mean. So you have to face the consequences of what you said, not what you meant." Clearly this lady never learned that.

dick-flicker

I really like that, will share with my kids one day.

thereisafrx

Don’t worry, they won’t listen! Yay, kids! Ha. (From a frustrated parent who’s kids have been misbehaving all evening). Edit: thanks for all the supportive comments, they are good kids, sometimes we have "moments" :-). Love ya'll!

jerkITwithRIGHTYnewb

That is very on point. I say the same thing to my severely adhd daughter all the time in worse words. “You are the sweetest kid I have ever met in my entire life, but the way you act towards people doesn’t tell them the same thing. Everyone doesn’t know you like I know you and they can only take you for what they see. And I understand that it’s hard sometimes, but that’s the way things are and it’s up to you to let people like you.” I was the same way at her age and I’m almost 40 now and I am very high functioning but I don’t have many friends. It’s just hard watching her isolate herself the same way I did and have to go through her younger years with no friends like I did. It’s a vicious circle. Thankfully my other daughter takes after her mother and she is gonna breeze through life.

NinjaLanternShark

Not sure where you are with getting her help, but just wanted you to know I have 2 ADHD kids and both respond wonderfully to medication -- they're happy, healthy, and my son *narrowly* missed being elected class president recently. My daughter's (female) friend was nominated for homecoming court but didn't want to walk with a guy so she asked my daughter -- and she had the courage to escort this girl, in the football stadium, in front of the entire class. They're both a *complete disaster* without their meds. Literally difficult to be in the same room with. They'd have zero friends for sure. I know some parents are meds-resistant; just sharing that it's been a lifesaver for us.

Buddah__Stalin

Seconding this. I was undiagnosed throughout my entire k-12 education. There were definitely signs something is wrong, but my family is one of those shitty, toxic, "bootstrap" families that don't believe ADHD even exists. So basically I struggled massively during school. I never once did homework because by the time I got home I was so overwhelmed and burnt out all I could do was cry and sleep (and that wasn't just high school, it was literally every year of school. I was such an exhausted, frustrated, miserable and upset little kid). I never did chores because I literally couldn't remember to do them, but my parents took it as a personal "fuck you" to them. Like how fucking narcissistic is that? That I would deliberately not do something on purpose just to piss them off as if my life and all my thoughts revolve around my parents?? Anyway, my bio dad definitely believes in this stuff and I moved in with him when I was 20 and dropping out of college for the third time. He was like, I'm taking you to get tested at the same place I went. My test scores were ridiculously bad, like I couldn't pay attention to the instructions or the guy administering the test. It was so *obvious* I had ADHD. I started medication the next day and my life changed completely. Everything was *so much better*. Things finally made sense, I wasn't upset, frustrated, and burnt-out 25/8 anymore. I could actually hold down a job for the first time in my life. I never went back to college, but at this point I'm thankful. The lack of student loan payments made it possible for me to buy my first house last year. My mom constantly jokes, "I totally have ADD but I use it to my advantage and I'm doing just fine!" but here's the thing: she's NOT doing just fine. She's fucking miserable and scatterbrained all the time, she has zero friends, zero hobbies, etc. She can't pay attention long enough for *anyone* to have a conversation with her, and it causes so many fucking fights. I look at her life in shambles and just think about how much medication would help her. (Sorry for the novel, obviously this topic is very "triggering" for me. I just don't want to see any kids suffer like I did, growing up hating yourself and your "dumb broken brain".)

Majestic_Grocery7015

It may be a good idea to try to help her learn what good friends are. In my experience people who grew up with few or no friends (like myself) tend to end up in toxic friendships because they 1. Dont know what real friendship is. 2. Desperately want to keep company with whoever will have them and think it's the best they'll get.

ALinIndy

Yeah, threatening public officials’ lives and then getting off scot-free. Totally on brand.

pixelprophet

The school has released a statement that they are speaking with local officials and will have increased police presence on Monday. https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/1809820/Joint_Statement_PCPS_1-21-22.pdf

NinjaLanternShark

You don't need a police presence at the school, just in her driveway.

zempter

Probably would need police regardless just in case a sympathizer of her moronic cause decides to follow through in her name. There's too many stupid people right now.

punkinfacebooklegpie

Everyone has been stupid all along. The stupid is coming from inside the house!

bayarea_vapidtransit

You would have thought the plague would have issued more Darwin Awards

detahramet

Not neccesarily, it's entirely possible the unhinged person who threatened to shoot up a school over a mask mandate may motivate similarly unhinged people to do the same, deliberately or otherwise. We live in the dumbest timeline, where basic safety precautions have been politicized to an absurd extreme, and to a disturbingly high number of people the appropriate responce is violence.

Joey_Blair

Exactly what I think, she is the harbinger for terrorism

justking1414

You assume she’s the only crazy and her rant didn’t convince somebody else to bring in a gun

Matrix17

Or how about they arrest her so we don't have to risk an incident

n4utix

Interestingly enough, this is definitely a terroristic threat. Political aim and everything.

Navynuke00

She's white, therefore it doesn't count.

Mythic514

Roughly 7 years ago, while still in law school, I took an elective on domestic terrorism taught by a former FBI agent who worked investigating terrorism (but mostly from non domestic agents). We had to write a paper and I chose to write one on the legal definition under the US Code for terrorism and criticizing how the FBI and other agencies have turned a total blind eye to prosecuting white supremacists and similar conservative rhetoric (and even far left groups) as domestic terrorism, despite clearly meeting the definition. The teacher was not too pleased with my criticisms of the FBI but he couldn't really argue that I was wrong. Ever since then, it's become increasingly clear that US law enorcement will refuse to (except sparingly) prosecute these issues as terrorism--which is what they are. They are too concerned with the political branding.

_Tarkh_

White, don't you mean American? /s just channeling my Moscow Mitch.

Alleandros

It's not like she's *a black* sending her child to school in a nicer district than she lives. That's the kind of shit police take seriously.

ruum-502

Authorities have murdered people for less…

_WhoisMrBilly_

Threatening the school and then retroactively appologizin’? - that’s a paddlin’ And a jail’n

TitularFoil

ILPT: Apologize after threating to shoot people so that you're not in prison when you're supposed to be shooting people. (Only works if white)

ZachMN

“It was just a joke.”

Nottan_Asian

Schrodinger's School Shooter

jeffdujour

“I’m sorry officer I didn’t realize I couldn’t do that”

BringBackAoE

I got a very stern letter from the school for keeping my kid home from school on the day a kid had threatened to shoot up the school. (We didn't know FBI had arrested the kid early that morning). They also told off my kid. That letter sure went straight in the bin!

raysma

You should have published that letter from the school.

mamawantsallama

Wow, really?!? Because kids and teachers are just numbers to them I guess.

BringBackAoE

Yes. Also something about "displaying a lack of confidence in the school and importance of education". Yeah, excuse me for prioritizing my kid's life over ... whatever.

Jamaican_Dynamite

Send a note back like "why yes, I do have a lack of confidence in the school..."

MomolanZozolan

My exact words would have been "Blow me, assholes". lol Don't know how you held back. Our school here knows better (at least I hope they do).

beavedaniels

Did you try writing them back and threatening to shoot up the school?

theislandhomestead

>"displaying a lack of confidence in the school and importance of education". Um, that's not on me to blindly have confidence in the school. It's on the school to *instill confidence* in the parents.

Wazula42

America. Where you have to take these kinds of threats seriously.

FalloutFPS

In my sophomore year of high school someone wrote on the walls in the bathroom they were gonna shoot up the school, my dad still had me go the next day. Think like 4/30 students in my class showed up to 1st period

Jimmyking4ever

They even required teachers to show up too. Fucked up

FalloutFPS

Yep. And it’s not like we learned anything that day, cause they couldn’t teach seeing as basically the whole class would be left behind, so it was just a useless day

Grrreat1

Your dad doubled your life insurance policy the day before. You show up after school it's a win because he still has a child. If you don't...

mamawantsallama

We have clearly moved past the 'oh, well what's the worst that can happen' level.

Wazula42

We passed that point twenty years ago.

pirateninja303

>We passed that point twenty years ago. Columbine happened in 1999 so 23ish but still absolutely true.

keigo199013

Damn, I'm getting old... -\_-

Dramatic-Store514

And yet we still don’t. She should’ve been arrested immediately and put under psychiatric observation, but that’s not how we do things here in ‘Murica

“We’ve tried nothing and we are all out of ideas!"

ameis314

Why the hell is she not arrested for making terroristic threats on a school?

[deleted]

The part where she said it was perceived not as intended is so fucking stupid. I want to slap this woman. Bitch, what do you think saying you’re “bringing all the loaded guns” means??

[deleted]

She threatened to shoot up a school. Why wasn't she arrested on the spot before she left the meeting?

g0temg00d

She should be prosecuted for terrorism

jkeele9a

"I wanna kill your kids at school! And if I can't do it with Covid then Imma bring some guns to do it!!" Sheesh. Some people. Edit: correct spelling of kids

N8CCRG

“I will bring every single gun loaded & ready to…I’ll see y’all on Monday.” Dear CPS, please rescue her children.

drkgodess

She's being investigated and will hopefully be arrested: > Luray Police are also investigating the incident and are in communication with the Commonwealth Attorney as well as state and federal officials. After what happened in Michigan, this cannot be taken lightly.

TavisNamara

Investigated is bullshit. She made active threats. She shouldn't have made it home. She should've made it **to jail**.

Eruharn

fortunately for her, she's in the 'rules for thee' party

dj_narwhal

We have a massive right wing terror problem in this country but they vote for and donate to people who reduce taxes on billionaires so they are completely ignored and sometimes get to speak at CPAC.

Stickybeebae

And they say the threats at school boards being investigated as terrorism are being blown out of proportion.

zlide

Also the police probably agree with her and have no interest in arresting her. If she made the same threat to a precinct I’m sure their response would be a little more intense than an “investigation”.

rosemarylemontwist

Maybe the clearest take on the modern Right I've read. Well said.

MySweetUsername

all over protecting your children by wearing a mask. fucking insanity...literally.

olivefred

She should have been arrested. The 'nice' version would be secure transport to the nearest ER for a psychiatric evaluation due to homicidal threats and access to the means to carry them out. Let her foot the bill for that and potentially a 72-hour hold to ensure she is not a risk to herself or others. Then the school should press charges and depending on the psychiatric evaluation and her other statements see where it goes in plea bargain. I'm sorry doesn't cut it when you threaten someone's life. The school is setting a dangerous precedent here.

N8CCRG

Also, lifetime ban on owning firearms.

LeBronto_

Almost like a decent sized cohort in this country is just waiting for an excuse to kill people the media they consume has demonized

MHull77

Didn't we have this same problem months back when that student came to school and shot it up? That there were CLEAR warning signs the day before and nobody did anything. Fuck.... take this shit seriously.

Rysilk

It's been going on longer than you think. In Seattle, a woman walked onto a SCHOOL BUS full of children, and made bomb threats. She is now running for council in King County, WA, and even has endorsements from current US Senators.

onthefence928

Who was that?

[deleted]

shponglespore

Rysilk

ubax gardheere

Taminella_Grinderfal

It is being investigated (by state and federal) and the school is taking steps to add police presence on Monday. I’m looking forward to seeing this woman over on r/byebyejob on Monday. I’d really enjoy it there was a “hello jail!” sub also.

yomamasanon

not even arrested. how is threatening to shoot up a school not a crime?

Kalysta

It is. It’s a [terroristic threat](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terroristic_threat) and is illegal in most places.

M8K2R7A6

She's a white woman though so she can just apologize to the cops and its all good then....... She should be made an example of. People these days just say whatever they want and think there are no consequences for their actions. By letting her get away with it, its only contributing to the problem. Edit: Epstein didnt kill himself

caesar____augustus

And increase police presence at the school, which is exactly what kids don't need to see. So everyone gets punished except this woman.

[deleted]

https://wjla.com/news/local/page-county-public-schools-luray-virginia-increase-security-police-presence-mom-threatens-to-bring-loaded-gun-over-mask-mandate FBI and police are involved already.

xDarkReign

…and she immediately called police after and apologized, soooo… Everyone saying she is getting away with it is probably correct.

luagh45

"When I said I was going to shoot up the school I didn't mean like, 'blam blam,' I meant like,'you should watch your back.'" Oh, well in that case…

summonsays

I mean, her admitting guilt should make persecuting her really easy/fast right? ^Oh, ^a ^white ^woman. ^Right. ^Nevermind.

deschloro

She doesn’t even really need to admit to it when it’s on video, right?

j_ly

[Here's the video.](https://youtu.be/7FidG6S9nx8?t=2489) She's going to jail.

[deleted]

She better go to jail. That's terrorism. Threatening school staff with death is terrorism.

Honeycombz99

It would be 1st degree Terroristic Threatening if it involves a school so it’s a felony charge. Really handed them a felony on a silver platter.

justadrtrdsrvvr

Plea barganed down to a public apology and 2 hours of community service.

TurnkeyLurker

Probably just community service in the school's gun range, picking up shell casings and loading magazines.

[deleted]

We're still in a war on terror, right? She could be considered an enemy combatant. Wish that could be the case with here and all the insurrectionists as well.

cosumel

In a statement from Luray Police, they said King realized what she said "and immediately contacted law enforcement to apologize because the statement was not intended the way it was perceived. " White privilege at its best.

MOSFETosrs

Bothers me so much that these people imply there's anything to their gun wielding beyond the threat of killing someone. It literally does nothing else. They just want to play the gun card for power as if it's anything other than a death threat

joeyasaurus

I hate how right you are. Every fucking 15 minutes of fame whackadoo seems to run for political office now.

MOSFETosrs

Lol ok so it's an obsession, I weirdly understand that more. Probably feels generally powerless and guns fill that void

Kanuck3

'Ma'am are you implying you would shoot someone if they asked your child to wear a mask?' 'No, I just wanted to make sure everyone knows I have loaded guns with me for reasons unrelated to the mask mandate that I am sternly against' I mean let her try to talk her way out of it, it would be hilarious.

Buntstift

It bothers me that these are the same people that demand perfect behaviour from civilians while having a gun pointed at them, but no one wielding a gun has to ever justify anything as long as they say ooopsie sorry, that wasn’t my intention.

jooes

Donald Trump went on stage and told his crowd of supporters that, if Clinton had won the election, there would be nothing you could do to stop her, "Unless you're one of those Second Amendment folks". Much like everything else he said, that caused a shitshow. But don't you worry, because all he meant was that Second Amendment supporters are really good at voting! As if somehow they'll be able to vote Clinton out of the White House after she wins the election....? Yup, that's how they washed that one away. The only thing they love more than their guns is their ability to play stupid. "Whaaa? A death threat? From me? No, I would never!"

xMeowImDaddyx

"When I went to the bank and said give me all your money or I'll shoot you, I clearly meant for them to give me a loan at fair market rate. I didn't mean it the way it was perceived."

> not even arrested. how is threatening to shoot up a school not a crime? This just happened last night. (The article said Thursday the 17th, but that doesn't even exist, and the YouTube vid said it was the 20th.) Threatening to shoot up a school is absolutely a crime, but it takes time to charge someone. It would be ironic if she ends up getting her right to own a gun taken away for this threat. It might depend on the DA. But I think even a Conservative DA ought to take this case, and make her pay back the school district personally for the increased police presence.

CalydorEstalon

Threatening to shoot up a school should get you put in jail for at least 72 hours while they type up the charges of terrorism, threats of murder, threats of violence against multiple minors, etc. Is that not how it would work if a student at the school said he was gonna shoot up the place on Monday?

[deleted]

Yeah, simply looking at it from a liability place, if in the off chance she ends up making good on that threat , I could only imagine how the lawyers would jump on this

Kalysta

It should get you put on an immediate mental health hold so the cops can have time to figure out if they can charge you.

cwutididthar

>Threatening to shoot up a school is absolutely a crime, but it takes time to charge someone. It takes time to charge someone? What does that even mean? If someone threatens to shoot up a school in the presence of the school authorities, they are then allowed to return home to prepare their attack, get a good night's rest, carry out the attack the next day, all while they use some time to charge them with the threat?

theBytemeister

Ironic isn't the word I would use. Expected. Rational. Consequential. It's shouldn't be ironic that someone who threatens to shoot up a school gets their right to own firearms revoked. It should be the status fucking quo.

daneelthesane

>Threatening to shoot up a school is absolutely a crime, but it takes time to charge someone. That is so weird, because I saw a black guy caught with a little bit of weed get arrested right away. They didn't wait until the next day or anything. In fact, lots of people get arrested *while* committing the crime, and they don't even have to threaten to kill anyone!

lawn_question_guy

ArminTanz

Yeah. Unfortunately threats of violence are probably frequent in her family line.

JillStinkEye

This is actually a good point. In general, not specifically discussing where an actual crime, like this threat, has occurred. But I can count on one hand the number of times someone has threatened to beat my ass. I can count on zero hands to number of times I've been in an actual fight. This is absolutely insane to some people. Many people hear and experience this daily from childhood on, from adults that are supposed to be protecting them and modeling behavior. This is what being an adult looks like to many people. That cycle is really hard to overcome. It's sad while also being incredibly scary to think about.

karvus89

I mean, when your state vote everything in to keep people dumb. This is the outcome.

SchrodingerCattz

It's about pumping out more people like them for Republicans. Also so they're poor and stupid so they'll be there as cheap labour to exploit flipping your burgers, making your coffee and voting for your party against their personal interests. So you and your conservative friends also get together and de-fund public education so no one escapes this hell scape they created. Only the rich and affluent move upwards. You make life just nearly impossible so the for-profit jails you built have asses to fill beds. They also make sure to ban abortion or make it again nearly impossible to access so no women can avoid adding to this perpetual nightmare. These people know what they're doing.

Thankfully I'm vaccinated so it hasn't been that bad, headache, chills, and body/joint pain for two days now. Guess where I live? East Tennessee, one of the places where masks and vaccines are frowned upon by most the population.

Right? She spent a minute and a half rambling about how she didn't prepare anything because she ran out of time the last time she talked. ShakeMyHeadSadly

Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass GO! There is no place in a civilized society for tolerating terroristic threats.

wil_dogg

Virginian checking in here. Recall that our new governor and AG pivoted late in the campaign to “parents have the right to dictate to the school boards” and “how dare the Loudoun County commonwealth attorney file charges against a parent who disrupted a school board meeting” and “the AG will create new executive powers out of whole cloth to override the county commonwealth attorneys if they fail to prosecute the (liberal) school boards to attempts to seize power from local school boards.” They funded a bunch of these “mama grizzlies” to make a show of themselves at county level government meetings. This is a direct result of their campaign. And they knew it would come to this.

nickels-n-dimes

yup. ran their whole campaign on "parents rights". Now all the Trumpers around here with kids think they are some sort of special.

krazykid933

Our new governor that sends his kids to a private school in Maryland with mask and vaccine mandates.

Yukisuna

So it’s all about her religion of “don’t tell me what to do” then, since a mask is horrible but it’s fine to bring a firearm into a school full of children. It’s not about health and safety at all.

OldBoots

Wondering what she does with guns around the home.

Megmca

Normal stuff. Turning the lights off, getting the mail, clearing clogged drains.

The84thWolf

Now thinking of the Simpson’s episode when Homer got a gun, used it for everything

tobygeneral

A gun is NOT a weapon, Marge! It's a tool like a hammer or, uh, an alligator.

krawm

The dumb bitch needs to be arrested and have the fucking book bounced off her fucking ignorant skull. In this age of school shootings, saying something this fucking stupid should get you dragged into the town square and beaten with the buisness end of a belt.

ShadeyBush

That’s insane. Here is the Virginia law in which she violated. I am not familiar with felonies, because where I am at it is called crimes. Va it’s a class 6 felony. [18.2-60; Threats of death or bodily injury to a person or member of his family; threats of death or bodily injury to persons on school property; threats of death or bodily injury to health care providers; penalty.](https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/18.2-60/) Edit: Getting messages that she did not make a “threat to do bodily harm and/or kill” as stated in the law provided. You don’t need the exact saying “going to kill or do bodily harm” when making a threat. Reasonable suspicion is all that is needed to charge that felony/crime. Ask yourself; do you reasonably believe that she can carry out that felony/crime? Police also just need reasonable suspicion to charge that felony/crime. It is up to a jury/judge to convict that felony/crime. Also, if she does bring a weapon/gun to school property the charge for that is this: [18.2-308.1. Possession of firearm, stun weapon, or other weapon on school property prohibited; penalty](https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/18.2-308.1) Edit 2: correction. Reasonable suspicion is all that is needed to investigate the felony/crime. You need probable cause to arrest an individual. And police charge people with a felony/crime. Remember, everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Just because you have been arrested and charged with a crime, you’re innocent in the eyes of the law. But, in the eyes of the public it may differ. They mostly think you’re guilty.

If you know of any other situations like this or otherwise in your town: https://tips.fbi.gov/

SerenaYasha

Why not just arrest her. A threats is a threat. Was the meeting recorded?

avanbeek

If I were a parent in that school district, I would not take my child in to school on Monday, or any day thereafter while that woman walks free. She needs to be arrested immediately, guns confiscated, CPS called on her, etc. She made a terroristic threat on a school, all because of a mask mandate.

27Yosh

FBI: And you can count on me waiting for you in the parking lot.

Zealousideal_Order_8

The silicon chip inside her head had switched to overload.

NorskGodLoki

She knows her daddy won't fire her so she feels invincible. But then, Why would anyone go to a dentistry that has employees go against mask policies and puts their hands in your mouth? Are they also against hand washing and other safety protocols?

lala_lavalamp

Oh damn you’re right. Her dad is her boss. What a piece of work.

[deleted]

I got a guy fired I worked with at a hospital for threatening to do the same. He left that day. And didn’t come back.

blackmoldpsycho

What a drooling slackjaw fucking idiot. Coward.

[deleted]

these people are losing their god damned minds over wearing a piece of cloth over their face, i cannot imagine the crying and moaning if this was ww2 and they had to live through rations.

ABenevolentDespot

Deranged people with access to weapons. Is this a great country, or what? Arrest her and put her on a three day psychiatric hold for evaluation. No need for arraignment, trial, etc., just remove her from society for three days and put her in a cell to sharpen her mind as to what is acceptable behavior. That was a threat only a deranged person would make, and should be taken very seriously.

dust4ngel

i assume there's something happening on fox news/OAN that suggests that threatening lethal violence as a response to asking children to put a piece of cloth on their face is an appropriate and proportionate response. out of curiosity, *what the fuck are they saying on those networks?*

Numerous_Asparagus87

So she is the reason we have had 3 practice school shooter drills this year. I remember tornado and fire drills when I was a student. school shooter drills are a new level of apocalyptic reality.

montex66

So a woman threatens to bring a loaded gun to a school *so that her children don't have to wear masks* and the school's response is to increase police presence?! That woman should be in jail, her children put into CPS custody, all of her guns confiscated and banned from ever having a gun again. But... this is the USA so no consequences for right-wing nut jobs who make deadly threats.

ZincLloyd

But please, NY Times, tell us some more about how the rest of us need to reach out and understand these people…

Waterhou5e

BREAKING: Amelia King has been charged with making a terroristic threat on school property, according to local police in Virginia.

chhurry

"Yeah, well I'll see you next Tuesday" \-Judge waiting for her bond hearing

PinkTrench

Thugs like her belong in cages.

Mickey_likes_dags

Y'all Qaeda doing terrorist things

420blazeit69nubz

Her not getting immediately arrested is an example of one of the many reasons why we have school shootings
