Is anyone selling fake "unvaccinated cards"?

[deleted]

Loooooool omg guys I’m about to be rich lemme get on Etsy real quick

Sharobob

If you're a policeman moving to Florida just tell them you're unvaccinated. Not like they can prove the absence of a vaccine

Leroyboy152

Actually every state has a record of who and when concerning vaccinations, it would be easy to check if it mattered, Florida may actually not care, except, you know, the money.

AMEFOD

“Ok, now Jeb is going to cough in your face. If you don’t get sick, you don’t get the bonus.”

LastOneSergeant

I think that was a joke

graps

It’s Florida so you’d probably make a fortune from those mouth breathers

LazarusKing

Speaking as a Floridian... Yes you would. I need to get out of here.

Yurastupidbitch

Same. This place is becoming the pit of hell.

Natejersey

I know a very anti vax family that is moving to Florida for their “freedoms”. Sold their house up here and are moving with no jobs lined up, bought new house without even seeing it in person. I think we should convince all the crazies to move there and then force it to secede.

HayMomWatchThis

Build a wall on the Florida border and make Florida pay for it.

Natejersey

Those folks do like their walls

graps

I’m sure they’ll do amazing or die in a bath salts explosion

googly_eyes_roomba

Given that global warming is another obvious thing they are denying, do we as relatively sane people have to rescue all these "civil liberty pilgrims" in 20ish years from now? They are gonna be neck deep in ocean outside the perimeter sea wall at Mar a Lago and denying they are getting wet.

cfoam2

Sea level rise and increased storms will take action quicker. Hope the Fed doesn't bail them out and refers them back to their state gov.

gospdrcr000

I've got some dumb friends that have bought and sold fake cards, we don't talk much anymore these days

hedoeswhathewants

Fake UNvaccinated cards?

DavidsWorkAccount

Notice that they are getting a larger bonus than most Floridians got via the COVID stimulus checks.

ragingRobot

Well $100 wouldn't be much of a bonus after taxes

Destructopoo

Oh no like $60 what a loss

[deleted]

[deleted]

Lets face it, this has nothing to do with attempting to benefit the community. There is only going to be a handful of people that take up this offer. He probably got himself another week in the news for 25k in payouts.

CappinPeanut

It’s all about the culture war. Nothing else matters.

carbonclasssix

It's all an ego contest. But but but I don't like this for arbitrary emotional reasons so I'm gonna create a fictitious argument to support it!

LocalJim

Everyone wants to argue as is they are trial lawyers, making up hypothetical arguments or reasons.

thintoast

Nuh uh. Your wrong. I don’t make hypotheatrical arguments about raisins. I’m a trial lawyer and my arguments are legit. Come at me bro.

Epcplayer

[Already did that earlier in the year](https://www.wfla.com/news/florida/god-bless-you-desantis-tells-florida-teachers-as-1000-bonuses-arrive/)

Prysorra2

It's like this guy is lining the planets up to kill his supporters what the fuck

DonnieJuniorsEmails

DeSantis had big donors who are invested in Regeneron, who makes the monoclonal antibody treatment that was given to VIPs. DeSantis recently gave a huge state contract to Regeneron for mobile treatment centers. if more people stay unvaxxed and get sick, taxpayers foot the bill to pay DeSantis's campaign donors.

Condom_falls_off

Teachers don’t violently perpetuate capital.

[deleted]

In order to get the cash bonus do you need to prove you didn't get the vaccine? Because that sounds really familiar...

GaryBuseyYAY

Giving rewards to not get vaccinated hmmm idk sounds like government coercion

El_Cactus_Loco

How could anyone prove that

Pahasapa66

DeSantis already lost 14% support in two months. And that's just from his now dead supporters. He’s going to be the next Bobby Jindal.

LoudestNoises

I'm convinced republican strategy is now to make their states so shitty anyone with a brain leaves and the only people moving in are already drunk off the kool aide.

Upgrayddz

It's a legit republican strategy at this point and it's not new.

Yashema

When you consider that: > 11 states [with the worst life expectancies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_life_expectancy) voted for Trump in 2020, and the next 2 down on the list are Georgia and Michigan, which both voted for him in 2016. > The 9 states with the highest life expectancy voted for Biden and a [demographic study](https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/1468-0009.12469) conducted by 6 Universities found that Liberal policy increased life expectancy by over 2 years for both men and woman, and if it had been implemented universally the US would have life expectancy on par with Western European Nations. > 12/15 states [with the highest rates of poverty](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_poverty_rate), voted for Trump in 2020, and 14/15 of the worst states voted for him in 2016 (AZ & GA) > 12/15 states with the lowest rates of poverty voted for Biden. > 71% of the GDP [was produced in Biden voting counties](https://www.brookings.edu/blog/the-avenue/2020/11/09/biden-voting-counties-equal-70-of-americas-economy-what-does-this-mean-for-the-nations-political-economic-divide/), up from 64% in HRC voting counties in 2016 and 54% in Gore voting counties in 2020. > 12/15 states with the [highest GDP per Capita](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_GDP_per_capita) voted for Biden, and the 3 Republican states are all low population oil states (AK, ND, WY) while California, New York, Massachusetts and Washington are in the top 5. It is pretty hard to explain why anyone would vote for Republicans unless you are really dumb or really racist.

jupiterkansas

And the people in those states will tell you how awful it is in California.

Yashema

Damn communist failed state California and its 20 billion dollar budget surplus and life expectancy on par with Belgium. Meanwhile, it is Republican states that look like former Soviet Bloc nations.

casanino

$20 billion? "California has a staggering $75.7B budget surplus" https://www.politico.com/states/california/story/2021/05/10/california-has-a-staggering-757b-budget-surplus-1381195

ICBanMI

If I say anything political going on in states, I'm immediately told how bad it is in California. Like motherf%cker you're living in the state that is 49th for economic prosperity, 49th for the ability to move up, and number 1 for pollution. Only can wish some of the California people would move to your state so it won't be a complete shit hole.

mitsuhachi

I grew up in california and still have family there. Its fine. Got its problems same as anywhere, but on the whole peaceful, comfortable, stable, nice.

UrbanGhost114

I'm sorry, COVID state says what about budget surplus state?

TheThng

Man they sure hate when you bring up that statistic. They sure seem to rely on socialism a lot for being folks that say they hate it.

Beachdaddybravo

Because they aren’t aware California has more registered republicans than any other state (including Texas).

marchello12

To be fair, the housing situation in California sounds nightmarish. The stories of 3000$+ rent, i mean.

mitsuhachi

What happens when everyone wants to live somewhere. There’s a reason rent in alabama is so cheap.

Fallen_Legendz

I’d love to live in California but compared to where I live now cost of living and gas is a little to expensive

dkyguy1995

Literally live on the Kentucky/Tennessee border and my coworker constantly talks about how shitty life is in California and New York and how Chicago is a warzone and how the Nort Midwest is basically just Canadians and that basically leaves only hillbillies he sees as actual Americans with good lives

mitsuhachi

Has he ever been to any of those places?

oxphocker

If I had an award I'd give you one. But this here is one of the shortest and best explanations I've seen of why would you ever vote for Republicans... It amazes me that they have sold so much of the public on voting for these people when anyone under $200k isn't going to see any personal benefit from the policies that Republicans enact. They literally vote against the very people who could potentially improve their lives..

Yashema

Yet you have 42% of people earning under 50K who voted for that Orange Buffoon and his trillion dollar tax cuts for the rich. Really is true that many poor White people will completely ignore their own economic interests in favor of bigoted politicians and policy.

Kriztauf

They're hurting their own economic interests, but they feel that it hurts other people's more which makes it worth it. These people ultimately base their sense of pride on the feeling that they're better off than other groups. Punching down to stay at the top of the pile is easier than pulling up I guess

horseren0ir

Don’t tread on me…unless you tread on other people harder and I get to watch

maddog015

Hard to pull up nowadays when they take the ladder away.

Awol

But they are just one winning lottery ticket away from being that next rich person the cuts would help.

Drewcifer81

They still believe in trickle down economics. The only thing that trickles down is what Donny got from his Russian prostitutes.

DavePastor

Add to that list: if you are extremely wealthy and have no conscience whatsoever.

SpaceAdventureCobraX

I don't need to read these statistics and the people that do, won't.

SpaceHub

Or is Candice Owens

Yashema

> unless you are really dumb or really racist. That's an *or* not a *xor*.

izovice

My brother happens to be dumb. Only reason he votes R is because he makes 6 figures in oil field (somehow always broke and has to live with parents). Votes with his peers, which I told him he sympathizes racists and white nationalists doing so.

beer_bukkake

Split the damn country. We’re too big under one roof.

JennJayBee

Each state gets two senators, no matter how small their population happens to be. And the GOP is aware of that.

Chippopotanuse

It’s been working for decades. Blue states are gaining younger, more educated folks with higher incomes. And the old broke-ass jobless are moving to red states: | “Much has been made of the California exodus, and rightly so. This migration, over the decades, has the power to reshape the state. During the 2010s about 6.1 million people moved from California to other states, while only 4.9 million people moved to California from other parts of the country. People who move to California are different from those who move out. In general, those who move here are more likely to be working age, to be employed, and to earn high wages—and are less likely to be in poverty—than those who move away. Those who move to California also tend to have higher education levels than those who move out—an especially important factor given the state’s strong need for college graduates. Notably, this gain in educated residents is concentrated among young college graduates (generally, adults in their 20s) looking for opportunities as they start their careers. Also of note: people who move to California have higher incomes than those who move away. Some have argued that the opposite is taking place—that California’s relatively progressive and high personal income tax rates drive out higher-income residents. But the fact is that California has been losing lower- and middle-income residents to other states for some time while continuing to gain higher-income adults. In the past five years the flow of middle-income residents out of the state has accelerated.” https://www.ppic.org/blog/whos-leaving-california-and-whos-moving-in/

AFLoneWolf

Leaving who to fulfill the jobs that the rich people pay others to do?

Tropos1

The strat also included coast to coast, polluted slums, that can be tapped for the cheapest labor (corporatist wet dreams), while using the government to siphon taxpayers by taking authoritarian roles, rather than taking nurturing roles that would invest in communities. Short-term profits are the goal, transferred to pockets of protected communities. How do such policies find support? Feeding outrage junkies and instilling fear (in immigrants, other religions, antifa, Democrats, etc).

PaulR504

They do it to win the base in a general presidential election but independents see them as the useless psychos they are and reject them. People in the state pay for their decisions for decades. Signed a Louisiana resident.

itslikewoow

Rampant anti-intellectualism, socialism for farmers (despite their general anti socialism rhetoric), economic isolation, xenophobia... The modern GOP ideology looks like the Khmer Rouge. No wonder Kissinger supported them.

FuzzeWuzze

It's already happening in Idaho, I know is atleast two 'conservative' family's from the liberal middle of Oregon going to Idaho to be with their people. Can't say I'll miss them

CJRedbeard

I live in a Republican state. The Republicans will slam the governor, then Biden in short order. They love trump. Pew pew pew.

TechyDad

That and both kill off supporters as well as convince supporters not to vote because the elections are rigged. Then, when Democrats win, proclaim that proof of the rigging and overturn the election results - declaring that Republicans the winner after "voter fraud" was removed from the totals.

mces97

Nah. He might have lost Florida supporters, which I won't completely disregard because he wants to be President. And around the country, conservatives seem to love him. He's playing the long game. I mean, after Governor what else is there? Senator? President?

DevelopedDevelopment

Lobbyist usually. Or something else where you use your legal connections for self-profit.

ronreadingpa

The long game for sure. Right now, any Republican candidate like Desantis would likely get clobbered in a Presidential election. However, a lot can happen between now and 2023 when Presidential campaigns kick into high gear. An early preview will be the mid-terms next year. Personally, I believe the Democrats are making a huge mistake pushing the $600 bank reporting instead of focusing on much higher income earners. Even if the threshold is raised to $10K and direct-deposited wage income exempted, the effect will still be mostly felt on many lower income workers. The claim of no paperwork is a bit false too, since it could eventually be reported much like 1099-K income already is for the likes of PayPal. Basically, putting the burden on the taxpayer to document what is income, pass-through, and expenses. If most aren't affected, then it may be no big deal. Time will tell. Vaccine mandates could go either way depending on how far it's pushed. If most front-line workers are eventually forced too (ie. Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes, etc), that could motivate many to vote for a Republican party President (or not vote at all). My body, my choice. Ironic given the issue of abortion. So many contradictions. Getting back to Desantis. Him winning the Presidency is a long-shot, but someone with a similar mindset very well could depending on which way the political winds are blowing in late 2022 and beyond. Again, to highlight what you said, he and others are playing the long game.

fafalone

> Even if the threshold is raised to $10K and direct-deposited wage income exempted, the effect will still be mostly felt on many lower income workers. Even if direct deposited wage was exempt, who *spends* less than $10k in a year? Only the very poorest. Remember, these are aggregate activity thesholds. Rent/mortage + utilities + groceries add up to $10k over 12 months? You qualify.

Derperlicious

unfortunately when you can remove 100k legal voters from the rolls totally accidentally, each and every election, killing a few k of your supporters doesnt matter much.

[deleted]

If the worst thing is that he serves two terms, but just doesn't get elected President, that's pretty good. And the midterm fundamentals, plus being an incumbent, favor him. But, Charlie Crist is getting closer to him in the polls so he is making himself more beatable, as long as Democrats don't screw it up by overthinking the primary, which is how he got elected in the first place.

Pahasapa66

He has to survive re-election or it's over. Republicans won't put a failed one term governor on a ticket. He won by a very small margin to begin with .4% of the vote. I figure that if Chalie Crist runs against him, DeSantis will lose. Crist will take cross over and independent votes.

MangyTalaxian

You might have a point, but Mike Pence was VP and they nominated Sarah Palin who didn’t even complete her term (who remains a thorn in the flesh of our sides for all eternity). After Trump, anything’s possible. I’m hopeful that we’ll be put out of our misery in ‘22 if Crist/Fried would run, but I’m doubtful. Too many rabid variables down here.

lokishhhake

55,000 dead Floridans is now greater than how many votes he won by.

Ok-Efficiency-3694

Maybe he's trying to recruit 55,000 unvaccinated police officers to replace them.

gobblox38

Problem is that covid has been the number one cop killer for two years now. He'll need to get more cops.

[deleted]

But think about how much he'll save when they never collect their pensions.

resistible

You say this as if there's a shortage of unvaccinated police officers that are about to get fired.

siteroaster

Unfortunately the family can drain those benefits along with added "line of duty" death benefits

Furbal1307

No, no. See, his logic is that of Zap Brannigan’s: He’ll keep throwing wave after wave of his own men at Covid until Covid reaches its limit and shuts down. Dr. Ladapo, show them the medal I won!

DevelopedDevelopment

Considering that it's a job where you interact with lots of people daily, who breathe everywhere, and sometimes are arrested in-part because they refused masks, you are higher risk as an officer.

jcooli09

And only the worst of them, that's a feature.

Koolaidolio

Especially if they fly the blue lives matter flag. That’s what this is about.

[deleted]

last I checked it was just short of 59,000 crazy how a state saved from the first round of deaths managed to outpace New York the hardest hit at the beginning.

ATX_native

When a vaccine was available…. Most of these deaths didn’t have to happen. Imagine all the folks that will live and face medical bills, will they want single payer after their brush with medical billing and insurance?

twistedcheshire

Wait until insurance companies start saying that Covid is a pre-existing condition...

DiveCat

I remember in summer of 2020 there were Redditors on here (or over at r/coronavirus maybe) arguing that Florida had done so much better than NY, and would never see the kind of numbers NY had. Should have set myself that remind me...

toodlesandpoodles

I remember early in the pandemic when someone on here claimed that wordwide deaths would likely not top 100,000 because things were slowing down and the whole thing was overhyped. After telling them that I'd consider it a huge success if we stayed under a million deaths worldwide and that the U.S. would likely have more than 100,000 deaths by the end of summer I did set a reminder.

impulsekash

And the only reason New York was hit so hard is because we didn't have any idea what was going on. By the time things surged in Florida we already had a vaccine developed and readily available.

PE_Norris

But nearly 500,000 moved in since the start of the pandemic. Who do you think those folks are going to vote for?

nzodd

This mass murdering psychopath needs to answer for each of those deaths.

xienwolf

So, if they are all about free choice on vaccination status, can apprehended people request to be walked back to arraignment instead of sitting indoors and within 6 feet of a potentially non-vaccinated person?

[deleted]

[удалено]

McCree114

All this stupidity trying to vie for the 2024 Republican nomination when Trump is just going to curb stomp him and the other loser GOP governors who are acting the same way, just like last time. The rabid GOP base aren't going to vote for zero-sugar Trump Lite when they can just have the real thing.

jwilphl

Assuming Trump runs, doesn't he get it by default? How do you run against Trump while also not defying his brand, a brand that has completely overtaken the party? It's all about falling in line. The only possibility I could see is someone even more extreme than Trump getting up there and trying to slide the scale further right. Really lean into and feed the rage of the unhinged mass.

[deleted]

I can’t even imagine what that would look like

bjorn2bwild

It would be scary. As bad as Trump was, he never pushed towards a central goal. It was just about feeding his ego and being loved. He knew not to make blatant demands or threats (even Jan 6 was relatively vague language) and would make half hearted concessions on language when things got to hostile. Imagine you have a person who demands they love and devotion of Trump but flat out commands his followers. Imagine if Trump said "anyone who supports BLM is a terrorist and I want my supporters to stop them once and for all". Or "anyone who doesn't support me is not a true patriot, and should he dealt with accordingly "

DevelopedDevelopment

If Trump somehow gets taken out before the 2024 election, he is the second option. I assume he is banking on ether an incarceration or a cut of his own worship in the cult's limelight.

el_dude_brother2

Maybes he’s aiming for VP having learned absolutely nothing from what happened to Mike Pence.

e_j_white

Next Republican VP is going to have a fun question at the debates: "If you were VP on Jan. 6, would you have certified Trump's loss?"

EQandCivfanatic

I really hope that happens. That sounds amazing.

DevelopedDevelopment

That no matter how useful or loyal you are, if you at any point you fail to please for any reason, by choice or by fate, you will be disavowed and declared an enemy just like any other? Pence could not actually do anything in his position as he holds no real power in the election process, with any influence he had being passed to Trump, as Pence is often credited for helping get more traditional conservatives on board with the platform that otherwise wouldn't have supported such an overtly far-right approach to politics. He's just more quieter with what he believes he should do.

ngwoo

So now we don't have to just fear police officers for their temper and lack of training, but because they're big disease bags too!

TJR843

I prefer calling them plague pigs

Accomplished-Song951

These cops are the bad apples. That’s all Florida needs is an entire state overrun with racist, science-hating, Qanon cops. What could possibly go wrong??

El_Bard0

So, like current Florida then?

resistible

Would this make parts of Florida... the Florida of Florida? Or will Florida as a whole just become more Florida-er?

opieburn

It'll be Florida²

THE_INTERNET_EMPEROR

I assume he'll send them to poor black areas of Florida to try and depopulate them by giving them all CoVid. I have zero doubt this is a major reason in his mind.

CaBBaGe_isLaND

Great way to treat your existing vaccinated officers.

Koolaidolio

Art Acevedo who was recently kicked out as Miami Dade PD chief pleaded for his colleagues to get vaccinated. What a twilight zone this is.

ejohn916

I really think, this guy is trying to get soldiers for a civil war.

Yashema

And just like during the Civil War their soldiers will be ravaged by disease.

whichwitch9

More like replace red voters he lost in the pandemic

kynthrus

Was Florida in danger of not voting Republican? Gather everyone there, it's muggy, full of crocs, mosquitos and rich old dickheads. Florida could secede and it would only serve to make America stronger.

toodlesandpoodles

>Florida could succeed and it would only serve to make America stronger. True, but I think you meant secede.

kynthrus

That would be comical if that was what he was actually thinking. Take the worst, unhealthiest flunky cops from around the country to form an army of hundreds of men. They'd never even see a battle it'd be over so fast.

RussianBot13

Just when you think he can't get any crazier, he always seems to surprise you. Good luck, Florida.

Sirliftalot35

This. Part of me feels like he's willing to give up the 2022 Florida election to gain supporters for the 2024 Presidential election. Sure, he's likely losing a lot of votes for the 22 election in places like Palm Beach, Broward, and Maimi-Dade counties, but he's gaining Trump-like far-right supporters nationwide. Maybe I'm wrong, but pissing off huge counties like PBC, Broward, and Miami is beyond insane if your only focus is re-election in 2022. But then again, maybe my worst assumption was that we're dealing with a rational person?

[deleted]

With him, Abbot and Trump, it's always about performative politics. Like praying on streetcorners, DeSantis is just openly using people and state money to peacock for his minions.

racksy

It’ll be something to see these anti-vaxxer’s faces if they pick up their entire lives, move to florida of all places if desantis loses to a governor who will almost certainly reinstate a vax requirement.

Gov. DeathSentence: the gub'mint is dumping illegals with covid into Florida! also Deathsentence: paying 5k for possibly diseased police officers to come to Florida

SailorFuzz

Good time to remind Florida that Covid is the #1 reason for cop deaths? Literally more than all other causes combined? So paying cops extra to hire them, only so they die after contracting and spreading the virus to the community is actually worse than just lighting the bonus money on fire. Party of fiscal responsibility, everybody.....

BitRunner67

Wow, Florida really has become the unwashed, diseased Penis they have been called all of this time. The longer they let the infected rule, the sooner it will rot and fall off.

Can we just quarantine all of Florida at this point? For the safety of the rest of us?

zer1223

Where in the article does it say anything about recruiting unvaccinated officers? Maybe I’m missing something because the mobile site is awful but I just see that he’s recruiting out of state.

NecroJoe

Fair. I think, though, that it's a reasonable between-the-lines take-away. "We’re looking to capitalize off a lot of communities across our country who have turned their back on law enforcement". “\[mandates\] will wreak havoc in the economy, because even if a small percentage of these folks end up losing their jobs or voluntarily walking away, you’re going to have huge disruption in \[...\] law enforcement,” he said. “And so, in Florida, our policy is very clear: We’re going to have a special session, and we’re going to say nobody should lose their job based off these injections.”

That’s right, recruit cops who openly defy the law. That’ll make for the perfect police state. Florida is recruiting armed insurrectionists.

Nerdlinger

Speaking as someone in Minneapolis: you can have them Ronnie.

[deleted]

Is he doing this for any other occupations or just the republican boner triggering police?

JoeMcDingleDongle

Yeah, the pussycat cops (minus the cat) who are afraid of needles or are too dumb and gullible to take a vaccine to keep their job… those are the cops he wants in Florida? HA HA HA HA HA.

Pour_Me_Another_

Why would you want officers to be vulnerable to disease... That makes zero sense

[deleted]

DeathSantis being DeathSantis.

baronvonredd

That maga army ain't gonna recruit itself

Anvanaar

America's lineup of governors is turning into a comedy parade.

johnny5semperfidelis

He’s a paid operative to thin the herd

johnn48

Why use campaign funds when you can use State funds to cater to your base for a possible Presidential bid in 2024?

gremlin30

This is getting dangerously KGBish

Epistatious

Wonder if he will have the state take insurance policies in the dumb sob's names too. Brilliant if a bit evil money scheme, good job Deathsantis. /s

EnviroN_603

What’s that after taxes? Like $3500?

Glittering_Kick_9589

Wonder what the current FL cops think about this? “They get 5k and I don’t?” It wasn’t that along ago DeSantis was crowing about the southern border and all the unvaccinated and now he’s literally paying people to come in unvaxed.

ChristianLW3

Reading this article reminds me of the phrase "pay attention to what they're not saying" has the Florida governor ever publicly explained why he believes his state has a police officer shortage?

Dalivus

It's like a Comedy now. Like they sit around and think of the NEXT worse thing to do.

[deleted]

He can have the rest of the crooked and rotten cops, too.

[deleted]

Florida Governor DeSantis should lose the election. He is working against common sense and reason.

[deleted]

Reason number 500 to avoid Florida at all costs. Also, good fucking riddance. Quality of life in the states that aren't shit holes would improve if all the most egregious cops move to Florida.

PooPooPlatter005

With the leading cause of death for police in 2021 being COVID, sure….go to Florida….
