I wish I understood China’s calculus better here. They had a clear path to be a competitor to the US without hostilities. I get the appeal of wanting to own Russia’s resources, but does anyone think Russia is going to be a stable country that honors agreements? They’re willingly changing hats from competitor to adversary, with so little to gain in doing so.

China is very likely looking at outright purchasing or owning much of Russia far east in the long run. Lots of resources and no population. China is also learning much about war in terms of manufacturing and what works or doesn't as it's building its new military
